Timber Trails Campground, Mulberry Grove, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

Overnight stay in a 43' motorhome. Rate is Passport America. Our site was 100' long, level, gravel 50A and water only. Dump station is at entrance of CG. Easy on-off from I-70. Called when exit from I-70 and owner waited for us and escorted to site at the front of the park facing south into a corn field. Nearest neighbor was 50' away. Utilities worked well. ATT service and Sat. is good. Roadway is hard packed gravel easy to navigate with a BIG RIG. Park is a mix of mostly weekend get-a-way campers and sites are customized to each occupant. There is a meadow with playground and a small ball field. Present owners bought CG from parents, who retired, and are maintaining a very nice CG. When going through this area will stay again. We camped at Timber Trails Campground in a Motorhome.

Garden of the Gods Campground, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed 7 nights in a 43' motorhome. Major construction underway blocking main entrance. Called for best directions the day before and told to enter through EXIT from "W Pikes Peak Ave". Attendant on golf cart was waiting for arriving guests and escorted to PT FHU site N03. Interior roads are paved but tight to navigate for BIG Rigs. Mix of back-ins and PT sites. Premium sites, head-in, have a level concrete pad facing main road construction. Neighbors are very close and our slide went over the neighbors table. Site was not level front-to-back. CG is all gravel, some shade, no cable and few OTA channels. ATT service spotty as was WIFI. Dog park has bags and is all gravel. CG is located close to many attractions which made it convenient. Office interior/lounge is beautiful with pool table. There is a good arcade room. If in area probably will not stay here again. We camped at Garden of the Gods Campground in a Motorhome.

Cherry Creek State Park, Aurora, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Great SP/Campground. Stayed here 5 days in a 43' motorhome. Book early. Easy to get to from I-25. Friendly check-in. State park fees ($9/day) are on top of camping fees so you will need to get a day pass for non-Colorado residents. If your stay is longer you can purchase a Colorado Annual Pass for $72 good for one year. During our August visit the daily fee is waived for Veterans. The CG is Big Rig friendly- easy to navigate. Our site #28 was spotless, level concrete pad longer than our rig. FHU PT with a fire ring, picnic table and patio in Coyote loop. Utilities worked well. Great OTA, ATT cell service and WIFI. No cable. The loop is a mix of PT and back-in sites with shade to no shade. The interior of the loop is an open, well maintained grass field with scattered shade trees. The closest RV is 100'+ away unless across the street - lots of open space with a lot of wildlife. Every morning/evening you see deer feeding among the tree line or in the open grass field. We would wake up to deer outside our coach most mornings. Biking, hiking trails, fishing, boating and swim beach. The CG host for our loop shared great info about how to get around town - what to see, do and best way to get there. We did not use the restrooms/bath laundry but they appear to be clean. We will stay here again when visiting Denver. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Definitely do the Georgetown Loop Railroad. Also Breckeridge and numerous mining towns. Walmart is a few miles south on Parker and Aurora Mall is a few miles north on 225.

Getting to the mountains is a challenge with Denver traffic so plan to spend a full day. We did several day trips to the mountains. Much easier to get to Coors Field and Mile High Stadium.

Terry Bison Ranch Resort, Cheyenne, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed 2 nights in a 43' motorhome. Received PA discount $24 for 1st night, 2nd night regular price, total cost was $79+ for 2 nights. Easy on-off from I-25. Entrance has major POTHOLES, that will damage your coach if not careful, as you pass thru stone archway. All CG roads are dirt with some gravel that used to be asphalt and are wide, easy to navigate with a big rig. Park is run down and needs a lot of maintenance. There appear to be many seasonal rigs. Check-in was smooth and friendly. Our site was #89, level, FHU PT, no cable or shade, at rear of CG away from I-25, no noise. All utilities worked well. Good OTA channels. Site was easy to get into but very close together. Looked at bathrooms and showers when in office/gift store -very clean. No dog park but plenty of space to walk your dog and enjoy the great views of the rolling hills and bison. CG recommended on site restaurant(The Senator). Didn't care for the restaurant. They had a wedding inside so they offered outdoor seating. There was no one there yet we had to wait until they cleaned the table(s). As we waited the smell of bison, cattle and horse manure together with the many flies drove us away and we went into town for lunch. The restaurant seemed understaffed. Maybe, indoor seating would be better experience. Overall at the PA rate it's an OK stay but regular rate it's overpriced. If passing thru we would stay here again overnight. We camped at Terry Bison Ranch Resort in a Motorhome.

Elkhorn Ridge RV Resort & Cabins, Spearfish, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful Resort with great views of the mountains. Stayed 6 days attending an ACA rally. This is a destination resort. Easy on-off from Hwy 85/I-90. Smooth check-in. BIG RIG friendly, easy to navigate smooth asphalt roads. Our Site was a FHU back-in concrete pad with manicured grass and cable (fuzzy almost not viewable). Resort is a mix of PT and back-ins. Large dog park, approx. 100x200 feet and small dog park about half the size. Large pool, tennis, basketball courts, and event center. Baths/laundry room are impeccable. For a large rally the event center is not big enough to seat 250+. Rectangular tables made it very difficult to move (circular tables are better) and acoustics are awful (unable to hold a conversation). The CG store has wine for sale which you can bring to the function because you cannot BYOB due to licensing laws. Easy access to Town of deadwood, Devil's Tower and Custer. Definitely a must stop when in Spearfish. We camped at Elkhorn Ridge RV Resort & Cabins in a Motorhome.

Prairie View Campground, Lusk, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Overnight stop. Easy on-off from Hwy 20 two miles west of Lusk. Entrance to CG is unsightly as you see heavy equipment, cargo containers and U-Haul trailers next to office. Check-in was done by friendly owner who was out in field and appears to be the only staff. We were directed to FHU PT sites on far end of CG. Interior roads are easy to navigate with a BIG RIG, hard packed gravel as are all sites. Our first site #26 was unlevel F-to-B and could not level. Moved to #25 which was level. All utilities worked well. No cable, pool, doggie park or shade. Garbage dumpster is by front office. Peaceful surroundings. Owner tells us CG is mostly workers from pipeline work. He has several FEMA trailer/cabins that he rents out which he bought after the floods. Price is high for what the CG offers but other option is BJ's in town for same price but is a tight fit for a 43' motorhome. If traveling thru area will move on through. We camped at Prairie View Campground in a Motorhome.

Big Pine Campground, Custer, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed one week to visit Mt. Rushmore, Custer SP, etc. We came in from the west from I-90 to Hwy 16. Easy drive into CG. Smooth, friendly check in-owners waiting for us and escorted to site and helped park. There is one main road leading to the lower and upper part of CG. The road is a hard packed dirt/gravel that goes up a gentle hill and was easy to navigate with a big rig. The second part of CG continues on a steeper hill and loops around and this is more challenging for a big rig but doable. All sites are back-ins, angled among tall Pine forest offering nice shade. Our site on lower part, #24, was gravel, FHU, level with a picnic table, fire ring with no cable and 3 OTA channels. All utilities worked well. A lot of space between sites. ATT worked well and CG Wifi was good. Firewood is $4/bundle and they deliver - just call the office or ask owners who are always available and are around CG on ATV's. Lots of deer in and around CG. Two great bath houses: located at lower end and one at the upper end of CG. Lots of space to walk your dog around CG and in small meadows among pine trees. Very relaxing, peaceful surroundings. Laundry room located in main office area. This is a great location, home base, to visit area attractions. We camped at Big Pine Campground in a Motorhome.

Stayed in a 43' motorhome to visit Wyoming's Dinosaur Center. Easy, friendly check-in. Very good escort to site. Interior roads are good gravel but tight and Big Rig navigable with escort. Site #10 is a FHU PT, level, gravel. Small park, close to neighbors lots of sparse shade. Easy exit from Site #10. No cable, pool, dog park. Need to walk dog using nice grass strip along road. Stayed 4 nights in a 43' motorhome to visit Yellowstone NP. Arrived from Grand Tetons NP on Rt 20 over the Targhee pass. Smooth check-in - ample space/multiple lanes to park your rig. Site is FHU PT, level gravel with cable. Good spacing with nice grass between sites . Interior roads are paved and BIG RIG friendly. All utilities worked well and are placed mid coach. Bathhouse/restrooms are excellent. ATT service was good and WiFi was adequate for Emails/Internet. CG is 2 blocks from Wolf/Grizzley Discovery Center and 3 miles from YNP west entrance. Absaroka Bay RV Park, Cody, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed in a 43' motorhome seven days to visit Yellowstone NP and surrounding area. Access is easy to CG from rear or front entrance. Smooth, friendly check-in. Big rig friendly-easy to get into site. Interior roads are in good condition-combo of smooth and rough asphalt. Our site E9 was level, gravel/some dirt, FHU PT, no cable, no shade. One side of CG has back-ins. All utilities worked well and are located conveniently mid coach. Site is long enough to fit our MH and park our CRV across the back keeping it off the road. The site has a nice grassy area front-to-back on the awning side with a nice picnic table. However your distance to the coach next door is at best 10 feet when slides are open. Not an issue for us because we spent most of the day out. The comfort station located in the middle of the park has bathrooms, showers and laundry. Did not use baths but quickly looked at laundry room and was clean and comfortable. No fenced doggie area but along the rear of the park is a nice long grassy area that is specified for walking your dog. Bags are provided and a dumpster is at the end. ATT service is good and you have some OTA channels. We used Satellite and it worked well. You are just outside of Cody but within 5 min of midtown and the Irma hotel and numerous restaurants. You have an Albertson just down the road with Burger king next door and MacDonald's 2 blocks away. This CG was a great choice as a home base and it was comfortable. It is not destination CG. When in the Cody area will stay here again. We camped at Absaroka Bay RV Park in a Motorhome.
