Fort De Soto Campground, Tierra Verde, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This park is my happy place. Large shaded sites with brush barriers in between each site. Mostly level. Water pressure is good. You can fish and boat at the back of the waterfront sites. It's about a mile to the swimming beaches. There is a dog park/dog beach a mile away. This park is very hard to get a reservation for a waterside site. You have to be diligent and computer savvy to get a good one. Reservations are taken 6 months out. There are some pull throughs available. Some of the sites are incredibly tight and require some interesting backing to get into with a long 5th wheel but we managed it. There is a great store in the campground with scoop ice cream that made afternoon snack bike rides a must. They sell bait, sundries, and fishing supplies. There are great trails, good bike trails, and an excellent boat launch area. The beaches are filled with sea shells. The ocean is about waist deep for quite a while. You can rent kayaks from the campground or have a local company deliver/pickup right to your site. We saw dolphins and manatees from our campsite. You can rent a fire ring or bring your own. There is firewood for sale. People are very friendly and weekends are super busy and sometimes loud from family get togethers and late night camp fires. If there was on onsite host we never saw them nor were they identified. The bathrooms were kind of clean and had great water pressure. There doesn't seem to be any paid staff as everyone we saw had "volunteer" on the back of their shirts. Some days the bathrooms didn't get cleaned. As it's Florida there are always lizards and bugs in the bathrooms because the bathrooms aren't closed up. This is the most beautiful park I have ever stayed in. We camped at Fort De Soto Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

They rarely have same day sites available for more than a day or two. They have their reservation policy clearly posted on their website. They don't give refunds although they do allow cancellation credits or moving of dates. You must pay everything up front when you make the reservation.

Baton Rouge KOA, Denham Springs, Louisiana

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

A good one night stop over park while going along the I-10/I-12 corridor. I think it's a little pricey for what you get. Mostly full of long term campers, the front of the park is reserved for travelers. The park is clean and well kept. The pool is nice as is the hot tub which was a plus after 12 hours of driving. The store is adequate. The sites are typical KOA paved sites, close together with easy pull through or back in access. Most are level. We stay here at least 6 times a year on our cross country trips. Close to shopping and restaurants. We camped at Baton Rouge KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Deerlick Creek COE, Tuscaloosa, Alabama

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

What a lovely park. We stopped over while visiting family. Everything from the check in to check out was smooth. The sites are level and paved. There is a picnic table and grill at each site along with well made decks. Everything was clean and well tended. We didn't use the bathrooms/showers so can't speak for those. We have already booked a longer stay for our next trip through Alabama. What a gem. We camped at Deerlick Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

You can't arrive after 10 pm or leave before 7 am without quite a bit of pre planning as there is a gate and VERY limited after hours access. Plan accordingly.
