Walnut Woods State Park, West Des Moines, Iowa

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Some sites are full hookups and some are electric only so be careful when you reserve. Sites have concrete slabs & our experience is that they are level. The dump site & fresh water fill location is not really set up for large rigs. For our 5th the connections are on the wrong side. We have a very standard Keystone. Sites 1, 2, 3, & 5 are full hook ups & easy to get into if you have a big rig. We camped at Walnut Woods State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Wells Fargo RV Park, Tombstone, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We were in #10 & were able to pull straight in from the street onto cement tracks. We were level & did not need to unhook - a plus when only staying one night. It was a double spot but no one was assigned next door to us. It probably would have felt tight if there had been. The best thing was that we could walk to all the Tombstone sites. It was really nice to walk down a deserted & quiet main street back to our spot after a late evening ghost walk. We are very glad that we rolled the dice on this RV park. Definitely recommend this park if you are planning on seeing the Tombstone sites. We camped at Wells Fargo RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Mountain View RV Resort, Canon City, Colorado

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

This is a well laid out campground, making it easy to maneuver a big rig. The grounds are attractive & well-kept. The women's restroom & showers is newly renovated & is very nicely done. The free wi-fi was OK, but at times bogged down. Considering the park was not even 1/2 full, I can see that using the wi-fi during the busy summer months could be an issue. Web site says there is cable TV, but there is not. For this price, comparing to other campgrounds, there should be cable & the wi-fi should be better. If we stay here again, I would request site 7,8, or 9 to best enjoy the gorgeous mountain view from our rear window. We camped at Mountain View RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

If your main windows are at the rear of your rig, try for a site on the west side of the park (sites 1-23) for the best mountain views.

Heartland RV Park & Cabins, Hermosa, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in our 40 foot 5th. Our daughter & family stayed in one of the cabins. This is a great location for those visiting the Black Hills with big rigs! It is easy to make day trips to all the sites from this easy in & out location. It is on a highway & while the noise was very noticeable outside it did not keep us awake. Not even the night we had the bedroom window open. We were in site #411 which was an end site. No leveling needed & right across the road from the restroom/shower building. The shower & restrooms were well laid out & clean. We had no issue using the Wi-Fi & found the connection & speed better than many campgrounds we have stayed at. There are baby trees planted here & there so eventually there will be some shaded areas. My husband prefers not having to maneuver around trees. The park map & rules sheet also had the county name -- made it easy to watch the weather. The sites are various lengths so they can accommodate all the different sized rigs. Plenty of side room for slides & awning without feeling like you were infringing on your neighbors.

Our daughter had planned on tenting it but the sky was threatening so she upgraded to a cabin. The staff had placed us directly across from each other but without any complaining they moved her to a cabin & had changed our site so we were still close. Our 8 yr old grandson enjoyed the playground & the pool with his dad.

The cabin had a queen bottom twin top bunk bed, coach, & small table along with TV & air conditioner. Cabins are a bit small but they still had room for two pack'n'plays for 1 yr old twins. Beds were comfortable. They had a bit of a walk to the bathroom/shower building.

The cable TV includes some stations that they played movies on from the office. They were featuring Forrest Gump & Star Wars while we were there. We camped at Heartland RV Park & Cabins in a Fifth Wheel.

The Longhorn Ranch Lodge & RV Resort, Dubois, Wyoming

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in the RV section in our 40 foot 5th wheel. Our daughter & family had a lodge room. This was just a 1 night stay prior to entering the national parks.

The playground was OK but a bit small if more of the sites & rooms had kids. There were horseshoe pits which my husband & 8 yr old grandson enjoyed. The covered picnic table area was nice for the few tent sites. The grandson could run between the room & our site without any worries, which was nice.

The lodge rooms were decent size with 2 beds & still plenty of room for the 2 pack'n'plays for the twin 1 year olds. There was a small frig & microwave. Bathroom was nice size for family use. The beds were noisy but comfortable enough. A continental breakfast came with a room (but not an RV site). The breakfast was very rudimentary.

The RV sites can handle big rigs with ease. Where normally we are in one of the biggest available, here we did not even qualify for their "big rig" sites. Bathroom/showers were nice. We were in #7 & did not need to do any leveling,My husband wished that the sewer hookup was towards the middle of the site instead of clear to one end.

We would stay again. We camped at The Longhorn Ranch Lodge & RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Fishing Bridge Campground (Concessionaire Operated), Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

I admit that we had perhaps one of the best sites. Loop B #64 = end of row site. I think having a 40 ft. 5th wheel was helpful in getting this spot. We wouldn't fit in the sites that are more back to back. There was a tree in the end cap space right out our dining table window & trees on end across the road = a nice view from table. Large rear window looked across road to wooded area between loop & registration/shower building. The sewer connection is different but we did not need any special equipment to utilize. The hookup was on a cement "platform" with a connection on the top & on the side. We used the side. I have been in other private RV parks where I was just as close to my neighbors.

There were kids playing in the woods between loops, riding bikes & playing tag on the road. So no traditional play ground as in some campgrounds, but the kids seemed happy. There were 8 showers with morning & evening lines. I used the shower in our rig. We did not tour the other loops so I cannot offer an opinion on those.

There are no picnic tables or fire rings. My understanding that is because of the close proximity of bears. So, it is a safety thing. The same as only hard sided vehicles can camp here.

The staff at the registration counter were great. Our daughter & family had a cabin at Lake. They picked us up each morning for sightseeing. There was no problem parking their mini van on the shoulder across the road.

We would definitely stay here again. You are not just in the park, but also fairly centrally located. Yellowstone is huge. Being in the park is crucial or best use of time. We camped at Fishing Bridge Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Fifth Wheel.

Livingston / Paradise Valley KOA, Livingston, Montana

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Almost level sites. Nice paved patio with table & chairs. Didn't use indoor pool, but looked nice & many campers were enjoying it. Sites are pretty close together, so that nice patio area is about 1 foot from your neighbors sewer hookup. The showers could be a bit better (nicer shower head, some sort of shelf for shampoo & such would be nice). Shower water pressure was almost too good! The location is wonderful: lovely mountain views, well off the highway, & nearby Pine Creek Trail is a great hike. We camped at Livingston / Paradise Valley KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Red Trail Campground, Medora, North Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Cable is $2 extra. Sites were almost level. Nice long pull-through. Easy access to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Liked the trees but a little tight for big rigs. Pleasant hosts. Hookup posts could use some updating. Served us well for an overnight & a quick national park visit. We camped at Red Trail Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Governors' RV Park and Campground, Casselton, North Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

If all you need is a place to hook up and sleep for a night, this is fine. Laundry was sketchy looking, and the one toilet per gender restroom was just barely OK. That's 1 women's toilet for 44 sites. Obviously, they plan on most using own facilities. Never saw showers. They are in the adjoining hotel, so probably fine. You do get a 10% discount on breakfast at the attached Country Kitchen. Very easy on & off from the interstate. Fine if all you plan to do is sleep. We camped at Governors' RV Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Holiday RV Park, North Platte, Nebraska

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

This is our go to location when heading home from Arizona in the spring. Most Midwest campgrounds are not yet open in April. Restrooms are older but kept very clean. There are shade trees throughout for the heat of the summer. Site cost includes cable & wi-fi with easy on/off access from I-80. Everything is maintained. River Dance RV Resort, Gypsum, Colorado

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This place has potential. It is in a beautiful setting. There is a wonderful deck off the back of the office. The grounds are nicely laid out. Trees have been planted. Restrooms & showers are nice & individual rooms. No sewer hookup at sites but the dump station is easy access. The sites are far from level. I'm not sure why they are adamant about using pads under levelers since this asphalt is not worth saving. The grounds map shows a river front lounge area but we did not check this out. There are not many RV park options in this area. This is an option with easy access from I-70. We camped at River Dance RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Richfield KOA, Richfield, Utah

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This KOA is in a residential area & a bit further off the interstate than most. The restrooms were being remodeled while we were there so can't rate those. The cable was not working properly. The number of channels on the brochure was far from accurate. Otherwise, the campground met the reliable expectations of a KOA. We camped at Richfield KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Circus Circus RV Park (formerly Las Vegas / Circus Circus KOA), Las Vegas, Nevada

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Yes, this is a large parking lot. But you are on the strip with full hookups. The RV park office is only open 10:30am - 7:30pm. Checking in outside of those times needs to be cleaned up. After 7:30 they expect you to park your rig, go to the hotel front desk, pay & then they will tell you your site number. This is a lengthy process given the walking distance from the RV park in the rear of the property to the hotel front desk. The front desk associate who helped us was obviously not trained on the RV park. No map, no wi-fi or restroom code was given. My husband used the showers & said they were reasonably clean but he had to search for one that worked. If we are going through Las Vegas again with our rig, we would stay here for the Strip access but would arrive before 7:30! Also, the best entrance is from the back of the property, not the Strip entrance. We camped at Circus Circus RV Park (formerly Las Vegas / Circus Circus KOA) in a Fifth Wheel.

Barstow / Calico KOA, Yermo, California

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $51.00

Sites are snug but separated with shrubs for some privacy. Each unisex restroom was a separate room with a shower. These rooms were very nicely tiled & were very clean. There is a shower token machine but no longer in use. Wi-fi was very weak in the back of the campground. All the regular/expected activities of KOA campgrounds. J Diamond Mobile Ranch, Bishop, California

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The sites are very tight. The friendly, courteous office folks helped us maneuver our 40 ft 5th into our site. Most of this facility is old, mobile homes. They have a few sites held open for those travelling through. With your site you get wi-fi, cable, full hookups, & free showers. Normally, this is not a location I would recommend but we were in a unique situation (too long to explain) & the folks here came to the rescue. We camped at J Diamond Mobile Ranch in a Fifth Wheel.
