Jolly Roger Travel Park, Marathon, Florida

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

I really want to leave a great review for this campground, as it does seem to be an overall nice, decently run place. However the propensity to jam campers together to maximize the profits really soured the experience for me. Bathrooms/showers were some of the cleanest I've ever seen at a campground. The pool, dock and pavilion areas were nice, with the to be expected great sunsets of the Keys. My critique of the campground would be as follows: When we arrived, we were placed right next to the only other camper on the row, despite the face there were multilevel vacant spots on our row and the adjacent row. We had to overlap approximately 6 inches over our concrete pad such that we did not hit the right adjoining camper's tow vehicle that was parked overlapping at the front yard of our spot. Even at this offset we were still only a foot from their awning with our slides. On the third day, we returned to find a class A parked on our left with its slide touching our awning, still with empty sites surrounding us. The sites are flat, too narrow. To add additional aggravation to the experience, when packing up this morning, I noticed a nearly 3 ft long scratch down my slide at handlebar height, and a child's bike with missing grip ends leaning against the picnic table of our right hand neighbors. The practice of literally placing the units awning to slide is unacceptable. I am sure the rationale is that we were using Passport America, however if using Passport America means a miserable camping experience, I'll spend the extra to stay elsewhere. We camped at Jolly Roger Travel Park in a Travel Trailer.

Black Rock Mountain State Park , Mountain City, Georgia

Date of Stay: July, 2014 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Seemed like a gorgeous park, however be aware that the office staff can be a bit dense and assure you that A. they have 50 amp sites, and B. a 32 ft travel trailer can make it safely to the campground, neither of which was true. After destroying a stabilizer jack and nearly killing my family just trying to get my camper back out of the campground that was obviously not suited for this size rig. The camp host was nice enough to help us find another campground - Tullulah Gorge State Park which was beautiful and actually cheaper. We camped at Black Rock Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.
