Shady Pines RV Park, Texarkana, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here in a 40 ft motorhome. They have pull-thru and back-in sites, all with concrete pads and full hookups. Pull-thru sites easily accomodated our coach with toad. Easy to level. Park is neat and well-maintained. There are a few long term residents but their sites are neat and clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. No pool but there is an on-site pond for fishing. We will stay again when in the area. We camped at Shady Pines RV Park in a Motorhome.

Birmingham South Campground, Pelham, Alabama

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here in a 40' MH with toad. Relatively easy to access. Staff was polite and efficient during check-in. Interior roads were rough but adequate (just have to go very slow because of ruts and steepness). Some pads were paved, others were packed gravel. Many were shaded but seemed to be mostly occupied by longterm residents. Our site was without shade but satellite friendly. Did not use the laundry and bathhouse but checked on them. They were dated but very clean with many separate shower rooms. Power at our site was marginal with one leg dropping to 109v during warm periods. Wifi was better than most and was adequate for checking email and light web-surfing. Cable offered but we did not use. Many OTA stations available. There were nearby trains that created quite a bit of early morning noise. Seems best for easy highway access for short stays. We would use it again. We camped at Birmingham South Campground in a Motorhome.

Spaulding Lake Campground, Niles, Michigan

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed while in area for motorhome renovations. Older but well-maintained campground. Sites gravel/grass on packed ground, reasonably level. Owners and staff friendly and helpful. Small fishing ponds (no license required), playground with old equipment but lots of games (basketball, tetherball, etc). Good WiFi (but we were here near end-of-season without many other campers). We were in the open but unable to get satellite because of high surrounding trees. Several good OTA channels. AT&T LTE signal good. South Bend, Mishawaka ~20 minutes away. Many wineries/breweries within ~30 minutes. Will return if in the area again. Cash & check only. We camped at Spaulding Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Parnell Creek RV Park, Woodville, Alabama

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Located adjacent to US Route 72 with easy access but this does result in some road noise. Interior roads and sites are gravel and well kept but tight for a 40 ft motorhome. Most sites appear to be reasonably level. Power and water pressure were good. The sewer connection was several inches above ground making dumping somewhat tricky. The Wi-Fi signal was weak at our site and we could only access the Internet intermittently. The bathhouse was modern and clean; the laundry appeared serviceable but had no a/c and was hot during the day. They have a salt-water pool which was one of the cleanest I have seen. The fitness center is tiny without a/c, making it unusable when we visited. They do not offer cable but do rent Direct TV receivers though not every site has a dish. Sites are satellite friendly. There is little or no shade. We had 4G reception on AT&T. The park is pet-friendly with a very small dog run. This park seems best for 1-2 nights while traveling on US Route 72. In that circumstance, we would stay here again. We camped at Parnell Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Within about 25 minutes are Guntersville Lake, Scottsboro (home of the Unclaimed Baggage Store) and Cathedral Caverns State Park. But, all local activities require at least a 15 minute drive.

Cedar Creek Park RV & Driving Range, Cave Spring, Georgia

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

The park is located immediately adjacent to US Route 411 and easily accommodated our 40 ft motorhome. Sites include full hook-ups. Most sites are back-in but there are several pull-throughs. The pull-throughs are long and level but many are narrow with barely enough room to put out slides on both sides. Many of the back-in sites are very sloped (front to rear) requiring several inches of boards or blocks to reach level. Power, water, and sewer connections were all good but the power pedestals have only a 50 amp plug and require an adapter for units needing 30 amps. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly and does a good job of maintaining order in a campground with many long-term residents and many weekend water-sports enthusiasts. The quality of the wifi varies with time of day and occupancy but is, in general, one of the better campground wifis. They have multiple repeaters so signal strength is generally pretty good. Most, though not all, sites are satellite friendly. There are no over the air channels available. We had good AT&T 4G LTE signal. The restrooms were clean but dated. We did not use the laundry. The store has an extensive selection of kayaks and gear. While they do not have a pool, they are located on a very nice creek with swimming, fishing, canoeing, tubing, and kayaking available. They welcome pets with the usual restrictions but this is a rural park so stray animals sometimes wander into the park. The town of Cave Spring is located about 2 miles away and has a small grocery store and a few small restaurants including a very nice steakhouse. The town of Rome, GA, with more to offer is about 15 miles away. Because we stayed monthly our average cost was only $10/night. They do offer Passport America and Good Sam Club discounts. If visiting the Rome, GA area, this is the closest campground with good "big rig" access and it is definitely a favorite weekend get-away for folks in the area. When visiting Rome, we will definitely stay here again. We camped at Cedar Creek Park RV & Driving Range in a Motorhome.

Creekside Campground, Edinburg, Virginia

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice, small campground with very friendly staff. The sites are mostly shaded, so there was no satellite reception. However, they have the best cable and Wi-Fi I have experienced. It is within easy walking distance of a couple of nice restaurants in town. The creek was deep enough for swimming. We camped here in a 40' RV. Navigation was tight but doable. Please be aware that you must follow their signs to reach the campground. Do not follow GPS. The last 200 or so yards are on a very small road that will not accommodate 2 vehicles side-by-side. We would definitely return. We camped at Creekside Campground in a Motorhome.
