Gateway to Cape Cod Campground, Rochester, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

The rate quoted is a Passport America rate. We stayed here because of the PA discount and the proximity of the campground to friends.

This campground is a former KOA (you can tell by the camp office building). It is gated, upon arrival you have to call the office via the microphone to gain access. You are then told to find a site, then come back to the office and tell them which one you took.

The road leading into the campground is paved, but turns into dirt. Upon reaching the campground, the gated main entrance is paved, but the remainder of the the roads are sandy dirt and full of pot holes. The area has a lot of trees and a sandy soil....which of course gets tracked into your rig.

The campground has full hookups (Water, electric, sewer). The is no cable. There is WiFi, at least close to the camp office where we were. It was capped at 1 Mbps and would frequently dropped out. Frustration led to us using the MiFi. Verizon wireless was 2 bars of 4G if I put my phone in the window. Otherwise it was 3G.

There are a good number of seasonal sites and park homes in the campground. We stayed in October, I was surprised to see the place about 75% full.

This was an average campground that could be so much more. The roads needed grading....we had a 2" rain storm while there which lead to huge puddles in the roads. The junk laying around the camp office could cleared out. The adult lounge looks like a construction trailer.

If in the area to visit our friends, we would stay here again. But that is the only reason. We camped at Gateway to Cape Cod Campground in a Motorhome.

Mountain Lake Campground, Lancaster, New Hampshire

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We used this campground as a base for exploring the White Mountains. It is probably located a little too far north for such exploring, but it's still a good starting point.

This campground is VERY WELL taken care of by nice owners. They were very accommodating t our requests. We had our mail forwarded here and they made sure they picked it up from the post office on the day it arrived.

The campground is well maintained. The sites closest to the road might be a little tight for big rigs and you will experience road noise. But they have a lovely view of the lake. We ended up at the back of the campground down in a valley due to our size. It was very easy to get in and out our site and no road noise was heard. The site was grassy with a gravel pad, a bit of shade.

There are some seasonal sites, but they are well kept up.

The pool is excellent with a slide the kids would love. The laundry room has 2 washers and 2 dryers. We didn't use the restroom facilities. The WiFi was very good and accessible most of the time. We would experience an occasional slowdown. Verizon 4G was very strong.

All in all, this is a great campground. It didn't get 5 stars due to the sometimes variable WiFi and the road noise at the front campsites. But we would definitely stay here again. We camped at Mountain Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Lake Champagne Campground, Randolph Center, Vermont

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

This is a terrace campground located in central Vermont. Being close to the highway, it is a great base for exploring the area.

The campground is terraced, which means everyone has a view. You are close to your neighbors on the sides, but there is absolutely no one behind or in front of you. That means the views of the pond and the surrounding hills can be enjoyed by most.

It's a quiet place and well kept up. The owners take pride in this campground. That is very nice to see. The sites are all grass and well mowed. The roads are gravel. The WiFi was EXCELLENT. Verizon 4G was very good, with the tower within site of the campground.

The swimming pond was small, but kids appreciate it. It has a small sandy beach and a sandy bottom. There a couple of bathrooms that we didn't use. There is also a laundry room with 2 washers and dryers, plus a game room. The playground needs updating.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 8 days stay here. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Lake Champagne Campground in a Motorhome.

Petenwell County Park, Arkdale, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Petenwell is a County Park, but over half the sites were taken by seasonal campers. Some of the campers had obviously been there a while, making the campground look rundown. The campground is divided into two sections. The older section is where you find most of the seasonal sites. Of the available sites remaining, a few are reservable. There are very few sites available on the lake shore of Lake Petenwell (a huge lake by the way). Most of those are already taken. So realistically, if you are going to camp here, you will end up in the treed part of the campground. The shade there is nice, the bugs aren't (including mosquitoes). There is a newer expansion area that we would have stay in if we had known about it. It was definitely not as full, a lot less seasonal sites, and easy access to the shore of the lake.

Some sites have water and 50 amp electric, some don't, so ask. The main roads are paved, the rest are dirt. The sites can be grass if you are not under the trees, dirt if you are. The campground can accept big rigs, but you have to be careful about what site you choose. We ended up giving up our reserved site because we couldn't fit. We ended up across the street that we could fit into. The staff was very accommodating about us moving, friendly too!

Bathrooms are ok, nothing to cheer about. Showers require quarters to operate. The beach was very nice, the marina excellent. The playground in the expansion area was new.

You can get Verizon 4G in the park, but it varied upon where you were. I ended up using my cell phone booster part of the time. A family member had an smart phone from one of the smaller local carriers and could only get a signal if she stood in the middle of the park. There were 6 OTA television stations.

All in all, if you go here, I would to the newer expansion area over the older area. But I doubt if we will ever go back to this campground. We camped at Petenwell County Park in a Motorhome.

Marquette Tourist Park, Marquette, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice city campground on the outskirts of Marquette. It's a great location to explore the area from. Roads into the campground are paved. Sites can be paved, grassy or dirt...it just depends upon where you are. The hook ups are not laid out conveniently on some sites, so bring plenty of hose, sewer pipe and electric cords. Campground has WiFi, but is difficult to pick up in some parts of the campground. Verizon 4G coverage was strong and awesome. 6 OTA TV channels can be picked up. Major stations were NBC and FOX. Some road noise can be heard, but nothing really disturbing. If we were in the area, we would definitely stay here again. We camped at Marquette Tourist Park in a Motorhome.

Straits State Park, Saint Ignace, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Nice state park. Paved roads, easy to get in. Sites are grassy and large. Lots of trees for shade. We stayed in the upper campground, which does not have a view of the Straits or the Bridge. Good 30 amp electric. Dump station was easy to access. Hiking trails all over, including some that give you very good views of the Mackinac Bridge. The campground fills up on the weekend, so reservations are probably necessary. During the weekend it's easier to get in. There is a rocky beach of sorts that some people were using to go swimming. Excellent Verizon 4G signal. Good OTA television. Close to St. Ignace and everything you could need or want. We camped at Straits State Park in a Motorhome.

North Higgins Lake State Park, Roscommon, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

This is another fine state park in the state of Michigan. It was average as far as campgrounds go, but good for a state park. It is very busy on the weekends in the summer, fully of families and boaters. Sites are dirt. Road is gravel. We didn't have any problems fitting our 40' moto rhome on the site. Beware of Swimmer's Itch if you swim here. We didn't swim, but the rangers were warning campers of it. Close to the town of Grayling and anything you might need to purchase. Verizon cell strength was variable depending upon where you are in the campground. I had 3G at our site, but got it up to a good 4G signal with a booster. Other parts of the campground did have 4G. Several OTA TV channels could be gotten. We camped at North Higgins Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Cloud Nine Park, Hot Springs, Arkansas

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is perched on top of a large hill. The winding driveway to get to the top where the campground is was a little daunting. Signs warned you to swing wide. I would really hate to meet another RV coming from the other direction, so be aware as you enter. Check in was speedy. We were given a pull through which was nice. About 25% of the sites seem to be seasonal, some neat, some not-so-neat. Escorted to the site. Cable TV worked well. We were away from the camp office where the WiFi source was, but our external WiFi antenna had no problem picking up the signal. EXCELLENT Verizon signal - 4 bars of 4G, probably because the cell towers (multiple) were on the same hill and could be seen from the site. There is a small hiking trail which is probably best used for walking dogs since it wasn't much of a hike. The rec hall was large and was set up for large groups. It had a wrap around porch with rocking chairs and swings that we made use of. In summer, there isn't much a view due to the foliage. I imagine in the fall the view is stunning. We would stay here again. We camped at Cloud Nine Park in a Motorhome.

Casey KOA, Casey, Illinois

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Good for an overnight stay. It is early in the season, so not many people where here yet. Close to the highway, but we didn't hear it since we had our air conditioning running. Sites were still in the process of being mowed for the first time, so ours was un-mowed since we pulled in before they got to it. Check-in was very speedy. Escort to the site. To get to the front row of sites, you have to pull through the back row of sites. That was odd. Cable TV selection was excellent, especially if you have kids. Verizon was 2 bars on 4G. WiFi was slow and tended to time out way too often....we broke out the Mifi instead. We would stay here again if we needed an overnight accommodation. We camped at Casey KOA in a Motorhome.

Lake Murray State Park / Elephant Rock, Ardmore, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

A very nice state park. This quiet campground overlooks Lake Murray. There in an abundance of pull through sites and a good number of back in sites that offer a lot of privacy via trees. Premium sites on the lake are available for an extra charge. Sites have level concrete pads wide enough for your rig and some extra width to use as a patio. In early May, the place was packed on the weekend, but by Sunday afternoon the park was almost deserted. Also a boat ramp and a picnic area in the campground. There is a paved hiking/biking trail to the east of the campground. Lake levels are low right now. Excellent playground for the kids. Sites include a fire ring, elevated charcoal grill, concrete picnic table and lantern stand. Camp hosts are very friendly and helpful. When arriving, just pick a site and then pay the camp host. Reservations are not taken. We camped at Lake Murray State Park / Elephant Rock in a Motorhome.

Lubbock RV Park, Lubbock, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Good for an overnight. Older campground filled with mostly seasonal RVs (some tidy, some not). Camped here in early May, arriving on a Friday night. There were almost full due to the camping season here starting so early. With some site juggling they found one big enough for our rig. Trees need to be trimmed some, but the shade was nice. Concrete pad. Shade trees. Pool was closed due to it getting a new liner. Host apologized for state of the Rec Room...she was cleaning it. Wi-Fi was anemic, the router was a 802.11b standard, which has been out of date for years. Best part of this place was the strong OTA TV signal and the very strong (5 bar) Verizon 4G. MiFi worked great. We camped at Lubbock RV Park in a Motorhome.

Las Cruces KOA, Las Cruces, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Very well landscaped campground. Neat gravel lots. Definitely pay extra to get a view site, it is worth it. Note, when it says it is a "Pull in/Back out" site, that is not and OR. It and an "AND". You Pull in to the site, then have to unhook your toad and back out to leave. Regardless, the view makes it worth it. Excellent cable tv channels. Good Verizon service. Overall Rating:

Nice campground. Gravel sites. Excellent power. Nice staff. Only complaint would be WiFi. You are capped at .25 Mbps. Verizion is 4g - 2 bars...it's variable but still better than the campground WiFi. Cell phone booster didn't help. OTA television is also variable. Still, we would stay here again. Close to the highway but noise did not bother us at all. We camped at Boot Hill RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Ajo Heights RV Park, Ajo, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

This was a lovely little campground. We were here in late April and literally were the only ones in the campground (they close April 30 for the season). Payment by check or cash only. Gravel sites with a concrete patio. Nice landscaping. The sites looked a little close to each other, but it was hard to tell because there were no other RVs in the place. We had our mail and some Amazon packages delivered here with no issues. Cell phone reception was excellent. WiFi was screaming fast, but that could be because we had no competition for it. Cable TV is digital with lots of channels. If you have an older analog TV with a convertor box, you won't be able use it. No over-the-air TV stations. Very nice owners. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Ajo Heights RV Park in a Motorhome.

De Anza RV Resort, Amado, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed her for 2 weeks while visiting parents in Green Valley. Nightly rate is based on weekly rate. Sites are level and gravel. Sites near the highway have trees. Electric and cable in the older section (near the highway) are at the back of the site. Oddly, the water is next to the patios...you have to put a hose under your rig. Small concrete patio. WiFi is variable. We had no trouble picking it up with our external antenna. Neighbors next to us had major problems. Verizon gave 2 bars of 3G (unless you did a fresh reboot on your phone and place it in a window, then you could get 4G for a short while). Excellent ota tv and cable tv.

Hot tub is HOT the way a hot tub should be. Pool is warm. Only downside (at least in April) is that they are inside. Outside would be preferred this time of year.

Only 2 park models in the entire park, so it is mostly motor homes, etc. Found the sewing room too late for my stay. Extensive shop, which came in handy when my husband needed to drill some holes in a metal bar. Owners are very nice. Broasted chicken in the restaurant is to die for! We would definitely stay here again, due to it proximity to Green Valley.

As for the road noise, yes you can hear it. But it's not that bad. We've been sleeping with the windows open and it has not been an issue. We camped at De Anza RV Resort in a Motorhome.
