Whistle Stop RV Resort, Abilene, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Last minute change of plans had us looking for an alternative space. This park is right on I-20 easy to get to. Note: If westbound on interstate, your gps will not find this park. Use exit 286C, cross over interstate and turn back East as Stamford is a one-way going East. Park is large, sites are concrete pad and patio with gravel roads. All hookups worked well including cable and wifi. Will stay here again. We camped at Whistle Stop RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Barksdale AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp), Barksdale AFB, Louisiana

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Directions to park need to be updated. We spent time looking for our site in a heavy downpour while we were in the wrong section. Once we fouind our site, it was fine except for the weather. Sites in the new section are mostly pull-thru, concrete pads with large patio. Roads are gravel and in good shape. The North gate off I-20 at exit 23 is closed to all but contractor traffic but the gate off North gate has barricades that are very difficult to navigate with a big rig. There may be other gates but those are the only ones we know about. This is a very good campground and we will be back. Staff at the office was very friendly and helpful. There are a number of eating places outside the gate but we were only here two nites during a rain storm so did not venture out. We camped at Barksdale AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Aviation Arbor RV Park (Military FamCamp), NAS JRB New Orleans, Louisiana

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of the best parks we have ever used, military or private. The only downside is getting there. Others have mentioned the tunnel and the rough roads, with which we agree. The surounding community leaves much to be desired. Suggest taking Uber or Lyft to Algiers Point to catch the ferry to the French Quarter and surrounding area. We camped at Aviation Arbor RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Jaymar Travel Park, Hendersonville, North Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Small rv park amid 40 acres of permanent residents. As a rule, that is all I would need to hear before looking elsewhere. However, this is a very clean, neat park. About a dozen asphalt pull-thru sites for transients with many permanently parked rvs and manufactured homes surrounding. Hosts are friendly and helpful. Connections are unusual in that two rigs occupy the same site back to back but sites are long enough that we were at opposite ends withour neighbors w/o interfering with each other. Will be back. We camped at Jaymar Travel Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Spring Villa Park, Opelika, Alabama

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This park is out of the way by quite a bit. We had trouble finding it even with GPS. However once we got there, we were very happy we found it. sites are concrete and level. Everything worked fine. Gave it a 9 instead of 10 because of its location and they only take cash or checks. We camped at Spring Villa Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Natchez Trace RV Park, Shannon, Mississippi

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Small park just off the Trace outside Tupelo about 10 miles. Sites are close together and not very level. Getting sewer and 50 amp power is iffy because only a few of them. Stayed six nights; first few with no sewer and two wheels of rig off the ground. Moved to site with sewer, but door side of rig was on downhill side so step was high off ground. Park is old but well kept. Lots of grass with two moss filled ponds with water birds. We camped at Natchez Trace RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Natchez Trace, at least in this area will accommodate big rigs. Saw only two overpasses near Jackson and they may be tall enough. Best to ask if there is a question about height. Many local roads go under the Trace and DO NOT have adequate clearance for big rigs.

Timberlake Campground, Brandon, Mississippi

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Park is on Barnett Lake on North edge of Jackson so lots of traffic. Our back-in site was first come-first served so good thing we arrived early afternoon. Most of park is monthly rentals and some permanent residents but well kept; no junky rigs. We camped at Timberlake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Wagon Train RV Park, Canton, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This park is just off I-20 several miles from Canton. Ask for exit number when you call; depends on which direction you are headed. Have stayed here several times on cross-country trips and will again. New owners are making improvements. No cable and we did not find any over-the-air tv either. Used our wifi hot spot to get Netflix, Amazon, etc however. Usually full around the first Monday of the month due to huge swap meet in Canton at that time. Space generally available other times. We camped at Wagon Train RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Ole Towne Cotton Gin RV Park, Quanah, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

For being in the middle of nowhere, Texas, this is a very good place to stop for one or a few nights. We stayed here in February a few years ago waiting out a snow storm in Amarillo and again last week. Lots of contractor rigs parked along the outer edge but they save the big pull-thru sites in the middle for the one or a few nighters. Grounds are well kept and improvements being added. Only thing that keeps me from giving it a 10 is the frequent freight trains whistling for a crossing about once per hour. Will stay here again. We camped at Ole Towne Cotton Gin RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Los Suenos de Santa Fe RV Park, Santa Fe, New Mexico

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This park has been here quite a while and it shows. Run down neighborhood w/an upscale condo development next door. Five empty retail spaces out front. Poor signage; were told to look for the sign for the condo development. 50 amp power on some sites but ours at least, had no way to shut off power while plugging in/ unplugging.

Median in street requires a u-turn if coming from East and another if leaving going West. On plus side, mgmt was friendly and helpful; kept grounds clean although lots of dog poop not picked up in dog-walk area. Would probably stay here again. We camped at Los Suenos de Santa Fe RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Blue Spruce RV Park & Cabins, Bayfield, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful park near Vallicito Lake. 8000 ft elevation so it gets cold at night in Sept. Lots of big trees, lots of shade. Back-in spots little hard to manage because they are tight and the trees. Wifi worked fine but no tv unless you rent their Directv box or have your own. About 20 miles/45 minutes into Durango but plenty to do around the lake. Meeker River Bend RV Park, Meeker, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed here several times over the last 10 or so years while attending the Meeker Classic sheepdog trials. Sites are spacious and easy to get into. During the trials, it fills up with numerous dry campers as well as those with hookups, but not a problem. Our site this year was right on the river. Very pleasant. Only problem we saw was the manager sometimes disappeared for hours at a time when people were trying to check in. We camped at Meeker River Bend RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Good for a one night stay. Campground is fine; everything works. Airport and train noise depending on wind direction and flight pattern. Not much to Gallup other than the El Rancho Hotel and Cafe.
