Red Gate Campground & RV Resort, Savannah, Georgia

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

RVs in a circle facing each other on a large mowed grass field with full hookups. Some sites are larger than others. At our site we were close to our neighbors. Lots of grass and was a great place to walk the dogs. Wifi was slow. Satellite friendly and lots of OTA stations. We were here during the week so can't speak to the comments about loud noise from events. Some train noise but at least they didn't blow their horns at night. It is a lovely place to take a walk; horses, chickens, goats and all. Not too far from Savannah historic district. It was ok for a few nights to see Savannah. We camped at Red Gate Campground & RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Hominy Valley RV Park, Candler, North Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at a site in the hollow next to the house which was very nice and had full hookups. Our site had a large concrete patio with a pergola, bench and table which was the nicest patio area we've had at an RV park. It was next to a clear, shallow creek with a wooden swing. There is a large, grassy field that is great for dogs. The site itself is gravel/grass and level. Wifi was strong and reliable. Good Verizon signal. No cable but satellite friendly and many OTA stations. There are only a few sites in the hollow. It is down a steep hill but we didn't have any problem in our 37' class A. The 5 sites across the highway didn't look as nice, but I really can't make much comment on them since that's not where we stayed. No facilities but we never use them anyway. We would stay again if in the area. We camped at Hominy Valley RV Park in a Motorhome.

Two Rivers Landing RV Resort, Sevierville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

We had a site on the river which we thought was worth the extra dollars. The rate is $65 but we got GS discount plus one night free for staying a week. The shrubs between the sites provide some privacy. Large concrete sites with grass at the end of each one. No place for a dog to run around but a nice place to walk on leash. Laundry and restrooms immaculate. Actually, everything is immaculate. No campfires. Personnel very friendly and helpful. Great wifi worked all the time. Good Verizon signal. It is a bit of a drive to get to the Smokey Mountains and Gatlinburg, but it's so congested in those areas I'm not sure we want to stay there anyway. It was great to sit and watch the river, the deer across it and the bald eagle fishing almost every day. What a treat. We would stay again if in the area. We camped at Two Rivers Landing RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Anchor Down RV Resort, Dandridge, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

It's everything everybody says it is - a top notch park. We stayed one night in a $59 site and 2 nights in a $49 site because that was all they had. We actually had a better view from the regular back-in site because it was higher up but it wasn't level at all. There seemed to be quite a few sites with a fair amount of slope but a worker told us that they intend to fix those. Another review mentioned all the golf carts zipping around and many of them were driven by kids that didn't look old enough to have a license. Maybe that doesn't matter at this park as it isn't mentioned in the rules. They don't give any discounts except for military. We would only stay here again if we could get a signature site overlooking the lake even though they are pricey. We camped at Anchor Down RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Indian Mountain State Park, Jellico, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Wow what a great state park! We ended up staying 6 days we enjoyed it so much. First in site 4 which is a handicap site and fully paved, has a shade tree and overlooks the lake. Just beautiful. Then in site 44 which backs to the trees where we watched the deer. On most sites the picnic table sits on a separate concrete pad from your camper. Management takes real pride in this park and it shows. Lots of mowed grass and was a great place for dogs. There were 4 different playgrounds. A 1 mile paved walking/running path by the lake which was very nice. Bathhouse is updated and clean. Good Verizon and satellite TV. One of the downsides is that the road that goes through the park is used by the locals (those are the sites on the lake). The other is that the concrete at the non-handicap sites are not set up for class A motorhomes with the door in the front because they are wider at the back of the site. That is great for trailers and smaller rigs but not big class A motorhomes. Other than that we really did love this place and would stay again. We camped at Indian Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Kentucky Horse Park Campground, Lexington, Kentucky

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed one week. Almost full on weekend and less than half full during the week. Wifi actually worked pretty well during the week but not so much so on the weekend. Our site was level but a lot of them have quite a bit of slope. Asphalt streets and pads but no patio area. Plenty of grass which was great for dog walking. Lots of OTA TV channels and our satellite worked fine but many sites would have trees in the way. Strong Verizon signal. People walked through our campsite constantly to get from the bath house to the outer loop and primitive sites, which drove our dogs nuts. We would choose another site if we returned because of that but make sure it's level. Water pressure is high-use a regulator. Nice campground and friendly staff. We camped at Kentucky Horse Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We enjoyed a couple hours touring at the Horse Park. Also, many distilleries on the Bourbon Trail and breweries on the Brewgrass Trail. Get the free Passport books and have them stamped. Alltech Brewing and Distilling (Town Branch) was our favorite for both the tour and their products. Wish I had realized before our last day that there is a Toyota plant with tours just north of here.

Charlestown State Park, Charlestown, Indiana

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Nice, clean park with asphalt roads and pads. No paved patio area unless you get a handicap spot. Some spots are not as level as others. Some sites have some nice privacy, while most do not although they are all fairly large sites. Nice grass and trees around the campground and was good for dog walking.

We had strong Verizon, lots of OTA stations and our satellite worked fine. Not many people there even over the weekend, and very few on Sunday night.

The only hike we did was to Rose Island. Be aware it is a very steep paved path from the parking lot to Rose Island. Easy to go down but not so coming back up. Take the ranger station phone number with you and call if you have trouble making it back to the parking lot. They will come get you and take you to your car! We took the guided tour and they will drive you both ways if you like. We enjoyed walking down and riding up.

Easy drive to Louisville to see the sights there. We would stay again. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Motorhome.

Indiana State Fair Campground, Indianapolis, Indiana

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

It was ok for a couple nights so we could see the Speedway because there didn't seem to be any other place to stay. But, it's a one row strip of campsites along the fence at the back of the fairgrounds. Basically mowed weeds, dirt and rocks on a big asphalt parking lot. With trash cans. And hook-ups. I would hate to be there when it needs to be one camper per site instead of two. But, the utilities worked fine. When you drive in gate six the campground is straight ahead. Sites 1-8 don't have sewer but all of the rest do. Verizon worked well. Lots of OTA TV and no trees blocking our satellite. Some small grassy areas but overall not a very good place for dogs. We won't return, but it was ok for a couple nights because of the location. We camped at Indiana State Fair Campground in a Motorhome.

Indiana Dunes State Park, Chesterton, Indiana

We arrived on Sunday without reservations because it showed plenty of availability. However, checkout time on Sunday is 5pm so only sites available were ones that had been checked out of. It turned out ok for us just something to be aware of if arriving on Sunday. Paved roads and campsites with electric only. Lots of trees and we weren't able to use our satellite but we did get several OTA stations. Strong Verizon signal for hotspot since there isn't wifi. Plenty of grass for dog walking. Would be a great place for family camping. We would return if in the area. We camped at Indiana Dunes State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

I agree with the other recent reviews. Wifi actually worked very well for us and the park was almost full. Typical gravel and grass pull through set-up. Owners very friendly. Fenced dog park plus big mowed fields of grass to play fetch or for the kids to play. Just seemed a little pricey for what it is but doesn't seem to be many options around Madison. We camped at Madison KOA in a Motorhome.

Don't miss the Farmer's Market in Madison on Saturdays in season. Producer only allowed and it is the best I've seen anywhere! Consider buying your cheese there instead of the cheese store right by the KOA. Walk through the capitol while you're at the market!

American Resort & Campground (formerly Mt Olympus Zeus Village Resort), Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

I'm surprised this is the first review here of this park so I'll go into some detail. We spent 3 nights at the PA rate of $22 for full hook-up. That was a pretty good deal. There weren't many people here during our stay. Wifi was very fast and dependable the entire time. Verizon signal is strong. No cable and trees blocked satellite signal. There are 3 different types of campsites. The gravel ones are right behind the hotel rooms. There are 2 asphalt sites among the treehouses which is where we stayed. Then there is a row of asphalt sites along the fence at the back of the parking lot. I would say they were the least desirable. The sites they call grass are actually gravel pull-throughs with grass between them. These are the nicest of the sites but they don't have sewer hook-up. They probably would get satellite. Two indoor pools. Plenty of grass for dog walking. Tennis court looked pretty rough. We didn't use the showers but we never do. 2 washers and 2 dryers at $1 per load. They give you free tickets to a water park and wildlife park which would make this a great deal if you use them (we didn't). This park is right in the middle of things and a short drive to everything in the Dells area. It was an ok place to stay and we might stay again but only if our holding tanks were empty and we could stay in a grass site. Otherwise, we would look elsewhere. We camped at American Resort & Campground (formerly Mt Olympus Zeus Village Resort) in a Motorhome.

We really enjoyed the boat tour of the Upper Dells and recommend it. We had two great meals out - one at Macs (gourmet mac and cheese) and the other at Pizza Lab (choose your own pizza ingredients in a line as you walk through the line and then they bake - it was fabulous!)

We stayed two nights on Sunday and Monday and weren't many other campers there. We chose a back in site on the river and enjoyed it very much. We picked 108 because it appeared to be open enough to receive satellite and it was. Lots of trees would probably block satellite at most sites. Major networks received OTA. Lots of grass for dog walking. Verizon signal was ok. Asphalt roads and two concrete strips for tires and a concrete patio and the rest is grass. We would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Pettibone Resort in a Motorhome.

Nice clean park. No Wifi. Good Verizon. Good satellite reception. Lots of grass and good for dog walking. Long gravel pull-throughs. Good deal at the casino for over 50 to eat the buffets which was great. RV park overlooks the driving range and golf course which is very pretty. For $20 during the week this is a great deal. If coming from Sioux Falls, look for the road just BEFORE the casino and turn left. That is where the RV park is. Then just walk over and pay after you set up. There is an entrance to the casino at the middle of the L shape between the hotel and casino which is easier than walking around to the front. We would stay here again. Loved our 8 day stay here! Wish there were more places like it. We never use restrooms/showers/pool anyway so didn't miss that at all. Wonderful place to bring dogs. Nicely mowed paths around the property to walk them or play catch. Pull-through sites are plenty long for any rig. All utilities including wi-fi worked great. Good Verizon service. No trees to block our antenna. We had our choice of 3 different hook-ups and chose to face east rather than west towards the road. The owner is great and keeps it very clean. There are some older reviews about her dogs being a problem but they weren't at all during our stay. We never saw her dogs unless she was with them and they never bothered us or our dogs. Only downside is it is on Hwy 385 but it is quiet at night. Access to the Mickelson trail is at the back of the property. We would stay here again. The shops in Hill City have some great art by local artists. The grocery store in Custer is larger and has a better selection than the one in Hill City. Great restaurants in both towns. In addition to the obvious things you must do in the area, be sure to take the 1 mile hike around Sylvan Lake in Custer State Park. It's a fairly easy hike and absolutely beautiful.

Friendly and helpful staff. They escort you to your site and help you back in. Sites are pretty tight. Roads are gravel/dirt and could use some additional gravel to help keep the dust down. No Verizon cell service. No OTA channels. Trees blocked our satellite dish but some sites would probably be ok. Some grass at each site which was nice for dogs. No place really to walk the dogs except around the park which isn't very big. Wifi wasn't very dependable but did work occasionally.
