Walkabout Camp & RV Park, Woodbine, Georgia

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Just an overnight stop for us. I found this park on Passport America so was expecting half price. Was told that all of the PA sites were taken and the best they could do was 10 percent off. We took it anyway because we needed to stop. My complaint is that we arrived at 1:00 which was check-in time. Most, if not all, sites appeared to be permanent set-ups with lots of stuff outside. So how can PA sites be sold out at check-in time when everyone has been there for months? Sites are very tight, gravel, dirt and grass. Nice dog park. New restrooms and laundry. We would look elsewhere before spending almost $40 to stay here again. We camped at Walkabout Camp & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Oak Plantation Campground, Charleston, South Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

We are full-timers and enjoyed our four night stay here. We were in site H1 which is an end site, has plenty of grass and is spacious. It is also closer to the front of the park so we didn't have to go over as many speed bumps as those in the back. But, we didn't think the speed bumps were any worse or bigger than other places we have stayed and they were probably put there because people were going too fast. Our site was open but there were trees that provided some relief from the afternoon sun to our west. Most sites here face north which is great. We were also close to the dog park which is one of the best we've seen in an RV park. It's large, the grass is green and there is some shade. Overall this is a great place to bring dogs. There are trash cans at the end of each row and within an easy walk from any site. Recycle cans close to the front. Wifi worked well during our stay as well as the cable. Some sites more satellite friendly than others. Strong Verizon signal. It's really no big deal to make a right and go to Charleston that way and they tell you how to do it when you check-in. All hook-ups worked fine. We did not use any of the facilities other than the dog park so cannot comment on them. We would stay here again. We camped at Oak Plantation Campground in a Motorhome.

It's a short drive to the Angel Oak Tree and it's free and beautiful. If you like barbecue you gotta go to Swig and Swine just down Hwy 17. Some of the best we've had anywhere in the country! Tomato Shed Cafe also excellent. So many great restaurants around here it's hard to choose.

Yates Family Camping, Harrisburg, North Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

For $20/night (cash or check) to see the sights around here this is fine. We opted for a site without sewer just to have more space around us. The FHU sites are very close together. Wifi is great! Plenty of grass around here for dog walking as it is next to a large grassy field that is used for raceway parking when there are events. Plenty of OTA stations and satellite friendly. Strong Verizon signal. Owners are very accommodating. We camped at Yates Family Camping in a Motorhome.

Mayberry Campground, Mount Airy, North Carolina

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

$30 is the Good Sam rate. They also take PA for 2 nights at $17 - a bargain for a nice campground. The gravel is thick, you're not on dirt. Large, level sites with green grass between them. Nice fire pits and a decent distance from your rig. No picnic tables at most sites but there are several picnic shelters around the park. Wifi was fast and worked great our entire 5 day stay, even when the park was full! Cable good too. Strong Verizon signal. Plenty of grass for dog walking. Utilities were all good and where they should be. No recycling. Dumpster on the way out for trash. Close to town and all things Andy Griffith and Mayberry. We would stay again if in the area. We camped at Mayberry Campground in a Motorhome.

Great craft beer and pizza at Thirsty Souls Brewery. Also enjoyed a lunch at Loaded Goat Pub. Thought the Snappy's Lunch pork chop sandwich was overrated, but I suppose it's something you just gotta do - it is huge - we split one and were full.

Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground, Fancy Gap, Virginia

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We are in a 36' class A DP and our opinion is that this park is not big rig friendly. The road from the office down to the campsites is steep and narrow with loose gravel and deep ruts in the road from rain runoff. We made it without issues but not without some concern and wishing we weren't here. Smaller campers, trucks and trailers will probably do fine. We paid $50 for 2 nights - one with PA discount and one with GS. Didn't use the restrooms. Plenty of grass for dog walking. Lots of OTA stations. Didn't try our satellite. Wifi didn't work at all for us-I used Verizon hotspot. We reserved and paid for premium site 13. The only thing premium about this site is that it has a small deck. 13 is very narrow and if we had squeezed our MH into it we wouldn't have been able to open the driver side bay doors due to a railroad tie retaining wall. We were able to take site 12 and it was wider and more level. If you do go here in a bigger rig site 12 is ok or sites 1-4 which are before you go down the steep hill (but you'll need to go down it to leave). I was expecting a Blue Ridge Parkway-kind-of-view but we didn't have that from our site. We wouldn't stay here again but that doesn't mean you shouldn't in something smaller. We camped at Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground in a Motorhome.

Streetsboro / Cleveland SE KOA, Streetsboro, Ohio

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The previous review about the road being closed is no longer the case. I can see where the road problem is and we still had to go around it but only a short distance and without any problem. Our only reason for staying here was to go the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and this looked like the closest place. It is about a 50 minute drive. To be fair, there was a lot of rain before our arrival and some on our first day. The ground is saturated and muddy and the gravel has ruts and puddles. Some sites have pallets placed on them so people can get in their rigs without stepping in mud. For a KOA the sites are actually decent size and not on top of each other. We lucked out with site 615 which was on an end and had a view of one of the ponds. Saw some people catching quite a few fish. Lots of grass for dog walking. Wifi was slow - I used my Verizon hotspot. Laundry is nice and reasonably priced. We did not use the restrooms so can't comment. They pick-up trash and RECYCLE at your site twice a day. I wish more parks recycled so kudos for doing that! I hope they do some road work before opening next spring. We camped at Streetsboro / Cleveland SE KOA in a Motorhome.

Maumee Bay State Park, Oregon, Ohio

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

What a pleasant state park! Asphalt roads, plenty of trees and greenery between sites and a large grassy area at each site. Very private campsites. Electric only but come prepared for that and it's a wonderful place to stay. We were pleased to find out at check-in that they are in the process of adding 50 amp and that some sites already have it. It isn't listed on the website but they are sites 1-29 and 96-100. I don't know how soon they will add more. We did not use the restrooms. Nice bike paths in the park. Our site 14 faced north and had trees providing shade in the afternoon. Some sites have more shade than others but you can see that on the website. Plenty of grass at the sites and around the park for dogs. No wifi but Verizon hotspot worked fine. Lots of OTA channels. We did not even try satellite for our 2 night stay. I gave it a 9 instead of 10 only because they don't have full hook-ups but what they do have is awesome. We would return. We camped at Maumee Bay State Park in a Motorhome.

Elkhart Campground, Elkhart, Indiana

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stopped here because we wanted to go to the RV museum. It was OK. We just happened to be there when they were adding some kind of white sand/rock/I don't know what to call it mix to the roads which was very dusty. We keep a clean rig and don't like dusty places. We did ask for and received a refund for one night because we didn't want to stay for the three nights we paid for and we appreciated that. Wifi was slow - I used my Verizon hotspot. Some of the cable channels came in dark. Very large and grassy dog park but no shade in it. Sites are gravel and grass and some have shade and some don't. Hook-ups were fine. Didn't even look at the facilities so can't comment on those. We camped at Elkhart Campground in a Motorhome.

Eastpointe RV Resort, Grand Haven, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $68.00
Overall Rating:

We had reservations for 3 days but ended up staying 12. We paid $75 for 3 nights in site 118 on the water and felt it was worth it due to the fabulous view. Had to move because the front row was booked for the weekend and stayed in site 58 in the second row for $70 - didn't care for staying in the second row for that much money. Fall rates went into effect and we moved to site 93 on the water for $60. That was a bargain. No discounts given for Good Sam or anything else. The smell from the sewage plant next door was much more noticeable when we moved to that end of the park. Request a site away from that end when making reservations. I think the cheap seats in row 4 would be ok although you won't have a water view. You can still walk on the path along the water or go to the park next door. That is where the dog park is which is huge and has an area for both small and large dogs. There is also river access there. Plenty of grass in the RV park for dog walking too. Only grass between sites - no landscaping. Restrooms are nice but are basic, nothing fancy. It's kind of confusing when you arrive exactly where the entrance is. You just go straight into the park from Fulton Street and the sign is up kinda high on the building which we did not see at first. Wifi worked great - wish all parks had wifi like that. Good cable and strong Verizon signal. Close to everything to do in the area. Very nice place to enjoy the water views and swans swimming by and eagles flying overhead. We would stay again if in the area. We camped at Eastpointe RV Resort in a Motorhome.

The Bluffs on Manistee Lake, Manistee, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We are full-timers and this is the kind of place we love to stay. Spacious lots, not packed in. Paved roads and lots. Plenty of grassy area to walk the dogs. They have around 20 of these wonderful RV lots. They are trying to sell manufactured houses for the rest of it. If that doesn't work out I hope they add more RV lots. They take PA for one night $25 and the other nights were $50. Pull-thru sites are $8 more and not worth it unless you're pulling something that you can't back-up or don't want to disconnect. Everything is new - 2 pickleball courts, swimming pool and jacuzzi. Putting green and tennis courts to come. I was told they are working on wifi available at the sites. My Verizon Hotspot worked fine during our stay. No cable but our satellite worked fine and no trees block at any of the sites. New washers and dryers available on the honor system - $2 each load. Hook-ups are new and where they should be. There is not a view of the lake but the current view is nice just because it's open, I'll add some photos. I'm giving this 10 star review because everything they have done so far is top notch. I hope that as they finish it that continues. We would stay here again. We camped at The Bluffs on Manistee Lake in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Meijer store right down the road is one of the nicest grocery stores I've ever been in (and I like Publix when in Florida). Easy access to and from town and Highway 31. Another way to get to Manistee is to go right out the park and go around the south side of the lake to Highway 31. Blue Fish is an excellent restaurant. Nice walk along River Street stores and also along the river walk.

Holiday Park Campground, Traverse City, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

Well maintained park. The roads are asphalt and the sites have a thick layer of gravel so it's not dusty. It poured while we were there and the water drained off the sites. If there had been a site on the lake available we would have spent the extra money to get one, they are awesome. We stayed in the purple section which was fine and has partial shade. There is a playground area in just about every loop. There are trash cans conveniently located throughout the park which are emptied daily, but no recycling. Plenty of grass for dog walking and many poop bag dispensers. There are young and old trees throughout the park, some areas much more wooded than others but that is explained on their website. Trees are well trimmed to keep away from rigs. My only complaint is that the wifi didn't work at all for us at any time - including during the week when there weren't many people there. Other RV parks are able to provide usable wifi so I know it can be done. I was able to use my Verizon hotspot. We didn't use the restroom but I looked in and they were clean. We don't do campfires but most people here do. Fire rings are at the back of the sites and far enough away from your neighbors fire. Hookups all worked well and where they should be. We would stay again if in the area. We camped at Holiday Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Lakeshore Park Campground, Saint Ignace, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in the front row and pulled in to our site for best view from our class A. Fifth wheels back-in. The sites are close together but the view was nice. You can't really see the bridge from the campsites. Second and third row have a lot of trees, front row doesn't. East access in and out of the park. Wifi actually worked well for us as did our satellite dish. Small laundry room but it worked fine. Didn't use the restroom. Everyone was friendly. Plenty of grass for dog walking. Nice access across the road to Lake Michigan and worth taking a look at. We would stay again if in the area. We camped at Lakeshore Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Pictured Rocks RV Park & Campground, Christmas, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The good: Close to everything there is to do in the area. Picnic tables are new. Plenty of sites available. Satellite TV friendly. We didn't use the restrooms but I did look at the shower. They are separate little rooms with a shower and sink and it looked clean. The not so good: Hard to get level. Very dirty and dusty, not much gravel. Hook-ups are good but way too far back. Wifi wasn't dependable but my Verizon hotspot was fine. We backed up as far as we could but still had to use 20' of sewer hose. Most rigs had 2 or more sewer hoses out so come prepared for that if you stay here. No trees or landscaping in the park. Grass hasn't come in very well which it too bad because that would help. Another note is that the sign is too far back from the road and you don't see it until it's almost time to turn. Some gravel, grass and landscaping would greatly improve this park. Unless that happens I doubt we would stay here again because everything got very dirty during our stay. If you don't mind camping on dirt the location is great. The sites around the perimeter would be better than where we were in the middle. Sites 26 and 27 actually have a bit of privacy. We camped at Pictured Rocks RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Dakotah Meadows RV Park, Prior Lake, Minnesota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We had a back-in which I'm glad we were able to get. The pull-throughs share not only the area with the hook-ups but also the grassy area with a different camper on the other side, but you each have your own picnic table. If you can only get a pull-through at least ask if they have an end site available. There is lots of grass and it was good for dog walking but no dog park. Enclosed trash can at each site. Had to pay $5 to get a card for entrance to the laundry room which is absurd when then only give you $3 back. You have to buy that same card for entrance to the bathrooms although we don't use them. Really? First time we've ever seen anything like that. Wifi was hit or miss. OTA channels but tree blocked our satellite dish. Many sites would be satellite ok. Sewer dump at our site was a little below grade and we couldn't use our 90 degree that we usually do. Diesel was around 15-20 cents cheaper here than nearby so arrive ready to fill-up. This is a nice, clean place and we would return. We camped at Dakotah Meadows RV Park in a Motorhome.

Scenic Park Campground, South Sioux City, Nebraska

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

We had a gravel and grass back-in site facing the river - had everything except sewer. The roads are paved. Our site and others next to it have quite a bit of slope. We double blocked our front jacks and got level but we saw several rigs with their front tires off the ground. The sites not along the river appear to be more level. Some of the sites have a small concrete pad. Looks like they don't clean sites between campers. Our fire pit was a disgusting combo of cigarette butts and empty packs among other trash. The fire pit in the site next to us looks similar. We didn't use the restroom. Friendly office staff. Cable worked well. Didn't try the wifi since I was told at check-in that it really didn't work. Verizon hotspot was fine. Lots of grass for dog walking but beware the stickers in some of the grass along the river. Trains pass through nearby. Despite the negatives it was pleasant to have the river view and it is very close to everything to do in Sioux City. We would stay again if in the area. We camped at Scenic Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Lewis and Clark center is interesting, nearby and free. The Floyd Monument is a little farther but worth seeing. Excellent farmer's market Wednesday and Saturday across the bridge at the arena. Palmer's Candy also worth a stop. I'm not sure why GPS and the campground website directions say to take 9th St to G Street to get to the park. Much more direct and better access from 77/20 is Riverview Dr which takes you directly to the campground.
