Chatfield State Park, Littleton, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Chatfield is one of our favorites in the US. Paved roads and concrete pads with gravel patios. The work campers rake the rocks and clean the sites after each camper leaves. We did not use restrooms. WiFi worked great the entire two weeks we were there. Lots of OTA channels and wide open to receive satellite. Strong Verizon signal. D loop is very big rig friendly. Sites are large and offer some privacy. As others have mentioned there is a construction project going on to increase the water level of the reservoir. It doesn't really affect the campground and we never heard it but when going out the west entrance you do drive through it. Bigger rigs must enter on the east side but that is stated in your confirmation. Huge dog park that you can drive to. We'll be back. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Check out Breckenridge Brewery on Santa Fe Dr. It's so much more than a brewery and is family friendly. King Soopers at Wadsworth and Chatfield Ave is a very nice grocery store. Tipsy's Liquor at C-470 and Bowles is a huge discount liquor store and has everything you could possibly want.

Garden of the Gods Campground, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

I totally agree with the previous review about not going here until the construction is complete. This is no small project and it is right at the entrance to the park. We also circled the area in our class A towing a car while trying to figure out how to get in. Our confirmation email even had a message to "call if you get lost" which is a joke since they don't answer the phone. Are we supposed to circle for 24 hours while waiting for them to return the call? When we finally made it in I told the person at the desk of our frustration and was told that they get 100 phone calls an hour and are "doing the best they can." I suggested that their email confirmation mention the construction and was met with a blank stare. Sites are very close together and gravel. Dog park is all gravel. I didn't see any grass. Wifi was worthless and we were very close to the office. Only here for two nights and didn't use any of the facilities. With tax we paid $65 per night for a deluxe gravel site under trees which made a mess of our car and motorhome when the wind blew with rain and all the construction dust. We wouldn't stay here again. We camped at Garden of the Gods Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Going west on Hwy 24 turn right onto 31st Ave and then make a left on Colorado Ave. If you miss it you'll be circling. If you arrive or leave during construction hours the sign holders will help you, but they aren't there on the weekend.

Angel Fire RV Resort, Angel Fire, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

We came for one week and stayed two. It's that nice. And, it didn't hurt that while it was near 100 degrees most everywhere around here, it never exceeded low 80s in Angel Fire and nice cool nights! Such a lovely setting, you have a view of the entire horizon. Sites are large with natural landscaping and perennial flowers. There are literally hundreds of aspens and other trees planted which will make it even better in a few years. Dog park is large, grassy and well maintained. Section 8 is adult only and costs $10 more per night and we spent the first week there. Then we moved to site 201 because that was what was available but we actually preferred it. Close to the office/laundry/dog park and a great view. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Several activities going on from pickle ball, putting, yoga, ice cream sundaes to a hamburger cookout with live music. The laundry machines are new and large and take credit cards only. I only looked at the showers/restroom but they are gorgeous and private. WiFi was out for a day during our stay but they got it fixed and it was good the rest of the time. Cable is also good and it is satellite friendly. Verizon signal is very weak in Angel Fire. Beautiful clubhouse has a ping pong table and a bunch of games, etc. It's not cheap but in this case you do get what you pay for. It's a bit off the beaten path but so worth it and I hope we return someday. We camped at Angel Fire RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Town & Country RV and Mobile Home Park, Roswell, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This was fine for an overnight to see the UFO stuff in town. We were in a pull-thru in the back. Roads are all paved and everything else is thick gravel. At least it's not dusty here. Very nice grassy and large dog park so at least there is grass for the dogs.WIFI worked great as well as the cable TV. Staff was friendly and helpful when asked about local places. Close enough to town. We would stay again if in the area. We camped at Town & Country RV and Mobile Home Park in a Motorhome.

Carlsbad KOA, Carlsbad, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

Typical KOA with level, gravel roads and pads with a strip of grass between sites. We didn't hook up to water due to previous reviews. All other hook-ups were fine. Very friendly at check-in. Good cable. Wifi is useless and I was told that at check-in unless you want to go sit in the office. I could see several strong signals but couldn't connect to any of them. We did have a barbecue dinner delivered to our site and it was ok. It is an hour drive to Carlsbad Caverns and half hour to town. We camped at Carlsbad KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We came in from Ft Stockton TX on Hwy 285. I highly recommend that you DO NOT take this route. Not only is there road construction, but this goes through oil country in Texas and there are many large trucks and wide loads hauling things. Lots of big BUMPs in the road. One very narrow one lane bridge. Worst road we've been on in our motorhome.

Travelers World RV Resort, San Antonio, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

Roads are asphalt, sites are groomed gravel with some grass and very nice. We stayed in a pull-thru and there were some Prevost there too. Wifi worked great as did the cable TV. No problem with any hookups. And, they have a recycling dumpster - wish more parks did that! We didn't use the bike trail along the river because it was very hot during our stay, but it is right there at the entrance. Close to town and everything that it offers. We would stay there again. We camped at Travelers World RV Resort in a Motorhome.

The river walk is every bit as awesome as you've ever heard. We enjoyed touring the San Jose mission near the RV park more than the Alamo mission. More to see and not nearly as crowded.

Fort Stockton RV Park, Fort Stockton, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This was a good overnight place out in the middle of nowhere. The sites are level and gravel. Great wifi and lots of cable channels. Friendly staff. Hookups good. No recycling. Dusty but that's the way it is around here. Laundry was good - $1.25 washers and $2.00 dryers. Cafe on site for breakfast and dinner. We would stay again if passing through the area. We camped at Fort Stockton RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

BEWARE: Hwy 285 going north to Carlsbad is terrible to the New Mexico state line. Lots of construction on the road and heavy truck traffic from the oil/gas fields. Road is in the worst shape of any road we have been on anywhere. One very narrow one lane bridge too. Avoid it if you can.

Austin East KOA Holiday, Austin, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

The good: we seldom use campground facilities but everything is new and looks nice. Playground, bath house, dog park, etc. Wifi worked great the entire time as well as the cable. Staff is friendly. The bad: their new roads are literally falling apart. It's a composite that is faulty and they are in the process of figuring out how to fix it. There are holes in it everywhere all the way down to the dirt underneath it. Once the roads are replaced that will greatly help this park. The grass at our site is pretty much dead but some sites looked a little better. It's about a half hour drive into downtown. We would look for something closer to town next time. We camped at Austin East KOA Holiday in a Motorhome.

Westlake RV Resort, Houston, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in a pull-through while traveling though Houston and didn't use any of the facilities. Appears to be mostly permanent residents although the lots were all neat and tidy. It is a very clean park. All concrete roads and pads with some grass at each site. Nice place to walk the dogs just outside the gate and they have a dog wash if you need it. It is behind the Uhaul storage place. It's about four miles off I-10 and there were some trees along Baker Cypress Rd that gave us a little brush that we didn't like. Pricey for an overnight but we needed electric because it is so hot. We camped at Westlake RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Cajun Palms RV Resort, Breaux Bridge, Louisiana

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Almost empty during the week and packed on the weekend. Great place for families as there is so much to do including the water park and pool area. Swim-up bar and very large jacuzzi for adults only. They have some activities on the weekend as well. Miniature golf doesn't have any grass glued to the concrete. Wifi is additional cost and not cheap. Lots of cable channels. All hook-ups worked well. The sites on the west side have dead looking palm trees. Most of the sites on the east side have a medium sized shade tree but not always in the spot you might like it to be. Otherwise the sites are concrete and grass. Plenty of grass around for dog walking, although no dog park. You do have to wear a wrist band for access to the resort and the amenities. Washers were $1.50 and dryers $1.25. We would stay again if in the area. We camped at Cajun Palms RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Bella Terra RV Resort, Foley, Alabama

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed a week including Memorial Day weekend. It is every bit as nice as everyone says it is. Very accommodating staff. They had several activities including some light meals, a beer and wine happy hour with a talented guitar duo, coffee and pastries and Sunday morning bloody marys, all at no charge. Very large concrete pads with plenty of space between them. Great place for dogs - 2 large and grassy dog parks. Plus just walking around the park is very nice. Cable and wifi both worked very well for us. They pick-up trash at your site each day. My only complaint is that they don't offer any recycling. If they had a recycling bin back where the dumpster is I bet a lot of people would use it. I hate throwing away things that should be recycled and know lots of people that feel that way. We hope to stay here again. We camped at Bella Terra RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Fish River Grill is excellent and you must try the Swamp Soup and Shrimp and Crawfish Pistol. Captain Frazier's Seafood next to the Shell station on Hwy 59 has Low Country Boils to-go for $7.99 that you can bring back to your coach. Big Beach Brewery had some very tasty beer and a pleasant atmosphere.

Hitchin Post Corral and Campground, Cottondale, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

One of the best overnight stays along the interstate we've ever had in five years of RVing. The only downside is a bit of interstate noise but we run our A/C and fan so we don't hear it. Owners are so friendly. They actually put a mat outside your door after they escort you to the site. How nice is that! Lots of grass to walk the dogs and a couple of dog parks too. Wifi is excellent and works. Lots of OTA channels and also our Directv dish worked great as well as Verizon. They have several lawn games set up and a small lake with fishing. Might be a fun place for a family weekend to hang out but we were just passing through. Plenty of trash cans around. And even a place for your horse, if you have one. With Passport America this is a great value. We would return if in the area again. We camped at Hitchin Post Corral and Campground in a Motorhome.

Compass RV Park (formerly Indian Forest Campground), St Augustine, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

The staff is friendly and helpful. Our site in the pond section was a gravel pad, concrete patio, heavily wooded to the front and a little view of the pond. And a pine tree dropping it's stuff all over our motorhome. We did ask for another site because of the tree but the only other one offered to us had leveling issues. Pine tree sap/droppings are very hard on our RVs and the one between 68A and B really needs to be removed. Many of the other sites actually have some grass and there is grass just a few steps away next to the pond which was good for our dogs. The dog parks looked nice but our dogs are older and we just walked them around the park. The included wifi actually worked ok for basic internet. They do offer better access for more $$ if you need it. Nice laundry room - washers and dryers are both $2.25. The Oasis section in the back is by far the nicest but has a 28 day minimum according to the website. We are full-time and would have much preferred that area but we were only here for a week. Easy drive into the historic area and Anastasia Island. We would stay here again if we could stay in the Oasis section. We camped at Compass RV Park (formerly Indian Forest Campground) in a Motorhome.

Red Gate Campground & RV Resort, Savannah, Georgia

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

RVs in a circle facing each other on a large mowed grass field with full hookups. Some sites are larger than others. At our site we were close to our neighbors. Lots of grass and was a great place to walk the dogs. Wifi was slow. Satellite friendly and lots of OTA stations. We were here during the week so can't speak to the comments about loud noise from events. Some train noise but at least they didn't blow their horns at night. It is a lovely place to take a walk; horses, chickens, goats and all. Not too far from Savannah historic district. It was ok for a few nights to see Savannah. We camped at Red Gate Campground & RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Hominy Valley RV Park, Candler, North Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at a site in the hollow next to the house which was very nice and had full hookups. Our site had a large concrete patio with a pergola, bench and table which was the nicest patio area we've had at an RV park. It was next to a clear, shallow creek with a wooden swing. There is a large, grassy field that is great for dogs. The site itself is gravel/grass and level. Wifi was strong and reliable. Good Verizon signal. No cable but satellite friendly and many OTA stations. There are only a few sites in the hollow. It is down a steep hill but we didn't have any problem in our 37' class A. The 5 sites across the highway didn't look as nice, but I really can't make much comment on them since that's not where we stayed. No facilities but we never use them anyway. We would stay again if in the area. We camped at Hominy Valley RV Park in a Motorhome.
