Indiana Dunes State Park, Chesterton, Indiana

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived on Sunday without reservations because it showed plenty of availability. However, checkout time on Sunday is 5pm so only sites available were ones that had been checked out of. It turned out ok for us just something to be aware of if arriving on Sunday. Paved roads and campsites with electric only. Lots of trees and we weren't able to use our satellite but we did get several OTA stations. Strong Verizon signal for hotspot since there isn't wifi. Plenty of grass for dog walking. Would be a great place for family camping. We would return if in the area. We camped at Indiana Dunes State Park in a Motorhome.

American Resort & Campground ( formerly Mt Olympus Zeus Village Resort, Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

I'm surprised this is the first review here of this park so I'll go into some detail. We spent 3 nights at the PA rate of $22 for full hook-up. That was a pretty good deal. There weren't many people here during our stay. Wifi was very fast and dependable the entire time. Verizon signal is strong. No cable and trees blocked satellite signal. There are 3 different types of campsites. The gravel ones are right behind the hotel rooms. There are 2 asphalt sites among the treehouses which is where we stayed. Then there is a row of asphalt sites along the fence at the back of the parking lot. I would say they were the least desirable. The sites they call grass are actually gravel pull-throughs with grass between them. These are the nicest of the sites but they don't have sewer hook-up. They probably would get satellite. Two indoor pools. Plenty of grass for dog walking. Tennis court looked pretty rough. We didn't use the showers but we never do. 2 washers and 2 dryers at $1 per load. They give you free tickets to a water park and wildlife park which would make this a great deal if you use them (we didn't). This park is right in the middle of things and a short drive to everything in the Dells area. It was an ok place to stay and we might stay again but only if our holding tanks were empty and we could stay in a grass site. Otherwise, we would look elsewhere. We camped at American Resort & Campground ( formerly Mt Olympus Zeus Village Resort in a Motorhome.

We really enjoyed the boat tour of the Upper Dells and recommend it. We had two great meals out - one at Macs (gourmet mac and cheese) and the other at Pizza Lab (choose your own pizza ingredients in a line as you walk through the line and then they bake - it was fabulous!)

Pettibone Resort, La Crosse, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed two nights on Sunday and Monday and weren't many other campers there. We chose a back in site on the river and enjoyed it very much. We picked 108 because it appeared to be open enough to receive satellite and it was. Lots of trees would probably block satellite at most sites. Major networks received OTA. Lots of grass for dog walking. Verizon signal was ok. Asphalt roads and two concrete strips for tires and a concrete patio and the rest is grass. We would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Pettibone Resort in a Motorhome.

Grand Falls Casino, Larchwood, Iowa

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Nice clean park. No Wifi. Good Verizon. Good satellite reception. Lots of grass and good for dog walking. Long gravel pull-throughs. Good deal at the casino for over 50 to eat the buffets which was great. RV park overlooks the driving range and golf course which is very pretty. For $20 during the week this is a great deal. If coming from Sioux Falls, look for the road just BEFORE the casino and turn left. That is where the RV park is. Then just walk over and pay after you set up. There is an entrance to the casino at the middle of the L shape between the hotel and casino which is easier than walking around to the front. We would stay here again. We camped at Grand Falls Casino in a Motorhome.

Creekside Mountain RV Park, Hill City, South Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Loved our 8 day stay here! Wish there were more places like it. We never use restrooms/showers/pool anyway so didn't miss that at all. Wonderful place to bring dogs. Nicely mowed paths around the property to walk them or play catch. Pull-through sites are plenty long for any rig. All utilities including wi-fi worked great. Good Verizon service. No trees to block our antenna. We had our choice of 3 different hook-ups and chose to face east rather than west towards the road. The owner is great and keeps it very clean. There are some older reviews about her dogs being a problem but they weren't at all during our stay. We never saw her dogs unless she was with them and they never bothered us or our dogs. Only downside is it is on Hwy 385 but it is quiet at night. Access to the Mickelson trail is at the back of the property. We would stay here again. We camped at Creekside Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

The shops in Hill City have some great art by local artists. The grocery store in Custer is larger and has a better selection than the one in Hill City. Great restaurants in both towns. In addition to the obvious things you must do in the area, be sure to take the 1 mile hike around Sylvan Lake in Custer State Park. It's a fairly easy hike and absolutely beautiful.

Fish 'N Fry Campground, Deadwood, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Friendly and helpful staff. They escort you to your site and help you back in. Sites are pretty tight. Roads are gravel/dirt and could use some additional gravel to help keep the dust down. No Verizon cell service. No OTA channels. Trees blocked our satellite dish but some sites would probably be ok. Some grass at each site which was nice for dogs. No place really to walk the dogs except around the park which isn't very big. Wifi wasn't very dependable but did work occasionally. Water pressure was low in the mornings so we used our water pump for showers. Small laundry but worked fine. We camped at Fish 'N Fry Campground in a Motorhome.

There is a shuttle service that will take you to Deadwood for $12 per person round trip. Ask at the office. Parking in Deadwood can be very difficult when there is an event going on which there was during our visit - Kool Deadwood Nights which we enjoyed very much.

Devils Tower KOA, Devils Tower, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $61.00
Overall Rating:

Very dusty - the roads and sites are more dirt than gravel and people go faster than they should. The entrance to the KOA is just before the entrance to Devils Tower. You get stuck in the line to go to DT even if you're going to the KOA. I wouldn't stay here planning to use it as a base camp for the area because of that line which was pretty long most of the day. On the upside it was very easy to get to Devils Tower which is the only reason to stay here! We had a view of the tower from the front of our site 48 even though it wasn't a "view" site. Wifi didn't work very well. No OTA channels although we did get satellite. Lots of grass for dog walking. We didn't use restrooms or pool but we seldom do. I doubt we return. We camped at Devils Tower KOA in a Motorhome.

Boyd Lake State Park, Loveland, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

$21 was the Aspen Leaf Senior pass price. We were a little disappointed at first because Boyd isn't nearly as nice as other Colorado state parks we have visited. Asphalt is pretty rough, sites are kind of short, only electric hook-up and not much privacy between sites. But, it grew on us and we enjoyed our stay very much. Great bike path. Nice view of the mountains. Lots of grass for dog walking. We didn't use the restrooms but the laundry room was nice. More trees in A loop where we stayed the first night and then moved to C loop in order to get satellite TV. Verizon wasn't very strong but I was able to use the hotspot. We would return. We camped at Boyd Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Chatfield State Park, Littleton, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

I've lived within 10 miles of Chatfield for over 30 years and have been on the lake hundreds of times but never camped here. What a wonderful surprise this turned out to be. We stayed in 3 different sites over 8 days as we cleared out our nearby house to go full-time in our RV. Very spacious and mostly pull-through sites. They sweep the concrete, rake the rocks and clean-out the fire pit after every camper. Free Wi-Fi was fast and dependable. Plenty of OTA TV stations as well as no trees to block our satellite dish. Strong Verizon signal. Great lake and mountain views from the west side of the C loop - we were in 108 (electric only). D loop is a little more spacious and has mountain views and full hook-ups. We will definitely return. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

Goodland KOA, Goodland, Kansas

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Roads and sites are dirt with some gravel. Sites are the same with grass between them. I wouldn't want to be here in the rain. They could definitely use some new gravel. Small fenced in dog area but there is a huge grassy area in the back to let the dogs run. Didn't use the wifi or restrooms. Cable worked fine. Far enough from the interstate that you don't hear it. In fact, it was very quiet. Good for an overnight and we would stay again while passing through if we needed to hookup. We camped at Goodland KOA in a Motorhome.

Casino Queen RV Park, East Saint Louis, Illinois

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

All sites are on asphalt with gravel between sites. The shorter sites also have trees between them and would be great if you aren't very long. We were in a 70' pull-through. The hookups are at the back of the sites. We didn't unhook our toad and had to use our extension cord to reach power. We didn't use sewer or water because of the distance. The thing we liked that I didn't see others mention is that there is a nice grass perimeter (real grass-not weeds) around the park inside the fence which was great for walking the dogs. It rained a lot while we were here and it was nice not to be in mud. The view across the river of the city and arch is great. Call security and they will pick you up at your site and take you to the casino or MetroLink which we took over to the arch. We didn't connect to cable but OTA stations and satellite worked fine. The wifi also worked most of the time but there aren't many people here. Yes there are trains but they didn't bother us all that much. At least they weren't blaring their horns all night. We would stay here again. We camped at Casino Queen RV Park in a Motorhome.

Nashville Shores, Hermitage, Tennessee

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 3 nights the weekend before the waterpark opened. We had a great view of the lake until another MH pulled in but we still had a partial view. Very large dog park with lots of shade. A storm moved through and uprooted some trees while we were there, we had no damage but a 5er did. This was good for us traveling though Nashville for a couple nights and we enjoyed watching the river. Wifi actually worked great. Cable wasn't HD but it was ok. We would stay here again just to go to the barbecue restaurant at the marine! We camped at Nashville Shores in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

All pull-through, gravel sites with a bit of grass, picnic table and fire ring at each one. Standing water in some areas due to heavy rain. Nice dog park and playground. Large laundry facility. Cable isn't HD but worked. Wifi was good most of the time but slow at times. Close enough to Chattanooga for sightseeing and there is even a back way to Lookout Mountain to avoid city traffic. Twelve Oaks RV Resort, Sanford, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Spent 3 nights here while visiting relatives in Sanford. Mostly permanent residents, some who keep their places tidy but most do not. Good 50 amp, they said wifi works but it doesn't, good Verizon signal, no cable but plenty of OTA stations, trees blocked our satellite dish. Sites have a concrete pad but otherwise are gravel/dirt. Not much grass because it is so dry. No dog park-we walked our dogs around the park with no issues. We didn't use the facilities but we rarely do. Would look elsewhere if in the area again. We camped at Twelve Oaks RV Resort in a Motorhome.

St. John's Marina & Resort, Deland, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here 2 weeks in a river front pull-through. These sites are asphalt with grass between them and have a lovely view of the river. However, there is quite a slope to the back of these sites and we double blocked our rear jacks in order to get level. The big downside to these sites is that it is the access road to the restaurant/bar. The rules we were handed at check-in stated that the speed limit is 5 mph and strictly enforced. Only the campers know this because it isn't posted anywhere in the park and the bikers use this stretch as a drag strip to and from the bar. We mentioned this but who knows if they'll either post speed limit signs or install speed bumps. But, the almost constant roar of motorcycles during the day and early evening definitely negated the tranquility of being on the river. The basin sites don't have a river view but they aren't on the drag strip. They are gravel and grass and level sites. There is currently a laundry and bath facility being constructed there. Everything here is new and clean. Restaurant is pretty good with live music several nights a week. Wifi was excellent. No cable but tons of OTA stations and no trees to block our satellite. Great place to bring dogs. Lots of grassy areas to walk them. We didn't have a picnic table but there are several of them around the park. We asked if we could get one but they were out and have more on the way. The bar is closed on Monday and Tuesday and those were the best days to be here. I doubt we return because of the traffic issue. We camped at St. John's Marina & Resort in a Motorhome.
