The Bluffs on Manistee Lake, Manistee, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We are full-timers and this is the kind of place we love to stay. Spacious lots, not packed in. Paved roads and lots. Plenty of grassy area to walk the dogs. They have around 20 of these wonderful RV lots. They are trying to sell manufactured houses for the rest of it. If that doesn't work out I hope they add more RV lots. They take PA for one night $25 and the other nights were $50. Pull-thru sites are $8 more and not worth it unless you're pulling something that you can't back-up or don't want to disconnect. Everything is new - 2 pickleball courts, swimming pool and jacuzzi. Putting green and tennis courts to come. I was told they are working on wifi available at the sites. My Verizon Hotspot worked fine during our stay. No cable but our satellite worked fine and no trees block at any of the sites. New washers and dryers available on the honor system - $2 each load. Hook-ups are new and where they should be. There is not a view of the lake but the current view is nice just because it's open, I'll add some photos. I'm giving this 10 star review because everything they have done so far is top notch. I hope that as they finish it that continues. We would stay here again. We camped at The Bluffs on Manistee Lake in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Meijer store right down the road is one of the nicest grocery stores I've ever been in (and I like Publix when in Florida). Easy access to and from town and Highway 31. Another way to get to Manistee is to go right out the park and go around the south side of the lake to Highway 31. Blue Fish is an excellent restaurant. Nice walk along River Street stores and also along the river walk.

Holiday Park Campground, Traverse City, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

Well maintained park. The roads are asphalt and the sites have a thick layer of gravel so it's not dusty. It poured while we were there and the water drained off the sites. If there had been a site on the lake available we would have spent the extra money to get one, they are awesome. We stayed in the purple section which was fine and has partial shade. There is a playground area in just about every loop. There are trash cans conveniently located throughout the park which are emptied daily, but no recycling. Plenty of grass for dog walking and many poop bag dispensers. There are young and old trees throughout the park, some areas much more wooded than others but that is explained on their website. Trees are well trimmed to keep away from rigs. My only complaint is that the wifi didn't work at all for us at any time - including during the week when there weren't many people there. Other RV parks are able to provide usable wifi so I know it can be done. I was able to use my Verizon hotspot. We didn't use the restroom but I looked in and they were clean. We don't do campfires but most people here do. Fire rings are at the back of the sites and far enough away from your neighbors fire. Hookups all worked well and where they should be. We would stay again if in the area. We camped at Holiday Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Take the drive up Peninsula Dr to see the beautiful homes along the lake, then take the main road back to town and stop at wineries and roadside honor system produce stands. So much produce here in the summer! We went to the Music House Museum on a rainy day and really enjoyed it. Many great breweries in town. Sleeping Bear Dunes is a must!

Lakeshore Park Campground, Saint Ignace, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in the front row and pulled in to our site for best view from our class A. Fifth wheels back-in. The sites are close together but the view was nice. You can't really see the bridge from the campsites. Second and third row have a lot of trees, front row doesn't. East access in and out of the park. Wifi actually worked well for us as did our satellite dish. Small laundry room but it worked fine. Didn't use the restroom. Everyone was friendly. Plenty of grass for dog walking. Nice access across the road to Lake Michigan and worth taking a look at. We would stay again if in the area. We camped at Lakeshore Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Pictured Rocks RV Park & Campground, Christmas, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The good: Close to everything there is to do in the area. Picnic tables are new. Plenty of sites available. Satellite TV friendly. We didn't use the restrooms but I did look at the shower. They are separate little rooms with a shower and sink and it looked clean. The not so good: Hard to get level. Very dirty and dusty, not much gravel. Hook-ups are good but way too far back. Wifi wasn't dependable but my Verizon hotspot was fine. We backed up as far as we could but still had to use 20' of sewer hose. Most rigs had 2 or more sewer hoses out so come prepared for that if you stay here. No trees or landscaping in the park. Grass hasn't come in very well which it too bad because that would help. Another note is that the sign is too far back from the road and you don't see it until it's almost time to turn. Some gravel, grass and landscaping would greatly improve this park. Unless that happens I doubt we would stay here again because everything got very dirty during our stay. If you don't mind camping on dirt the location is great. The sites around the perimeter would be better than where we were in the middle. Sites 26 and 27 actually have a bit of privacy. We camped at Pictured Rocks RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Dakotah Meadows RV Park, Prior Lake, Minnesota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We had a back-in which I'm glad we were able to get. The pull-throughs share not only the area with the hook-ups but also the grassy area with a different camper on the other side, but you each have your own picnic table. If you can only get a pull-through at least ask if they have an end site available. There is lots of grass and it was good for dog walking but no dog park. Enclosed trash can at each site. Had to pay $5 to get a card for entrance to the laundry room which is absurd when then only give you $3 back. You have to buy that same card for entrance to the bathrooms although we don't use them. Really? First time we've ever seen anything like that. Wifi was hit or miss. OTA channels but tree blocked our satellite dish. Many sites would be satellite ok. Sewer dump at our site was a little below grade and we couldn't use our 90 degree that we usually do. Diesel was around 15-20 cents cheaper here than nearby so arrive ready to fill-up. This is a nice, clean place and we would return. We camped at Dakotah Meadows RV Park in a Motorhome.

Scenic Park Campground, South Sioux City, Nebraska

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

We had a gravel and grass back-in site facing the river - had everything except sewer. The roads are paved. Our site and others next to it have quite a bit of slope. We double blocked our front jacks and got level but we saw several rigs with their front tires off the ground. The sites not along the river appear to be more level. Some of the sites have a small concrete pad. Looks like they don't clean sites between campers. Our fire pit was a disgusting combo of cigarette butts and empty packs among other trash. The fire pit in the site next to us looks similar. We didn't use the restroom. Friendly office staff. Cable worked well. Didn't try the wifi since I was told at check-in that it really didn't work. Verizon hotspot was fine. Lots of grass for dog walking but beware the stickers in some of the grass along the river. Trains pass through nearby. Despite the negatives it was pleasant to have the river view and it is very close to everything to do in Sioux City. We would stay again if in the area. We camped at Scenic Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Lewis and Clark center is interesting, nearby and free. The Floyd Monument is a little farther but worth seeing. Excellent farmer's market Wednesday and Saturday across the bridge at the arena. Palmer's Candy also worth a stop. I'm not sure why GPS and the campground website directions say to take 9th St to G Street to get to the park. Much more direct and better access from 77/20 is Riverview Dr which takes you directly to the campground.

Blue Ox RV Park, Pender, Nebraska

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Offering free stays at the campground to Blue Ox customers-this is how you provide excellent customer service! It's only $15 if you're not a Blue Ox customer. We had one of the concrete sites which are much nicer than the gravel sites. The roads are gravel but it's not dusty. There is nice landscaping and acres of mowed grass which is great for the dogs. Free wifi too which works well. Two bars of Verizon LTE. Some of the water spigots are a little far from the pad. We ended up buying an additional 25' hose at the Ace in town. They will come to your site to get your tow bar for a $130 inspection and tune-up which they suggest you do every 2 years or 10,000 miles. Unfortunately, they are not doing factory tours at this time due to some flooding they had and are in the process of repairing. They said tours would probably resume in early 2019. Not much to do in Pender but we enjoyed a little down time and trip planning for a few days. We camped at Blue Ox RV Park in a Motorhome.

Grand Island KOA, Doniphan, Nebraska

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

The sites are so close together that after everyone puts their slides out there is barely room for the picnic table between them. About the closest we have been to our neighbors anywhere. Sites are gravel and grass. There is plenty of grass for dog walking around the park. They have recycling bins. Their wifi didn't work for us but our Verizon hotspot did. $45 was expensive for what it was. I doubt we return. We camped at Grand Island KOA in a Motorhome.

St. Vrain State Park, Longmont, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 5 days in an electric only site. These sites have a concrete pad and paved roads. The FHU sites have a concrete pad but the roads are gravel. The FHU section is also closer to I-25. If you stay in a site as far west as possible the traffic isn't as noticeable. Nice trails to walk/bike ride around the park. Fishing from shore is the big draw here and there were a lot people doing it. No swim beach but I did see a couple people on SUPs one day. Plenty of OTA stations and nothing blocked our satellite view. Strong Verizon for hotspot. Plenty of grass for walking dogs around the park. Camp hosts clean the sites after each camper. We would stay here again. We camped at St. Vrain State Park in a Motorhome.

Good place to overnight while traveling through the area. Pull through sites are very long. Room for any size rig or if you have RVs and boats/jet skis for the nearby Lake Mac. Cherry Creek State Park, Aurora, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Made reservations back in January for our two week stay here. As everyone says, it's paved and clean, a beautiful park and so close to Denver. Our site had a slight view of the mountains and great sunsets. We also had cottonwood trees providing shade. About half the sites have shade trees and the others do not. We could not use satellite but many sites could. Lots of OTA stations. Nice laundry room and machines were $1.50 each. Wifi actually worked well our entire stay. Verizon signal was LTE but sure seemed slow at times. Buffalo and Abilene Loops are closest to the swim beach. As you look at the campground map the center of the loops are all large grassy areas with shade trees which is very nice. Sites are spacious. Great place to walk dogs. Very large off-leash park too. We would return. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Chatfield State Park, Littleton, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Chatfield is one of our favorites in the US. Paved roads and concrete pads with gravel patios. The work campers rake the rocks and clean the sites after each camper leaves. We did not use restrooms. WiFi worked great the entire two weeks we were there. Lots of OTA channels and wide open to receive satellite. Strong Verizon signal. D loop is very big rig friendly. Sites are large and offer some privacy. As others have mentioned there is a construction project going on to increase the water level of the reservoir. It doesn't really affect the campground and we never heard it but when going out the west entrance you do drive through it. Bigger rigs must enter on the east side but that is stated in your confirmation. Huge dog park that you can drive to. We'll be back. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

Check out Breckenridge Brewery on Santa Fe Dr. It's so much more than a brewery and is family friendly. King Soopers at Wadsworth and Chatfield Ave is a very nice grocery store. Tipsy's Liquor at C-470 and Bowles is a huge discount liquor store and has everything you could possibly want.

Garden of the Gods Campground, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

I totally agree with the previous review about not going here until the construction is complete. This is no small project and it is right at the entrance to the park. We also circled the area in our class A towing a car while trying to figure out how to get in. Our confirmation email even had a message to "call if you get lost" which is a joke since they don't answer the phone. Are we supposed to circle for 24 hours while waiting for them to return the call? When we finally made it in I told the person at the desk of our frustration and was told that they get 100 phone calls an hour and are "doing the best they can." I suggested that their email confirmation mention the construction and was met with a blank stare. Sites are very close together and gravel. Dog park is all gravel. I didn't see any grass. Wifi was worthless and we were very close to the office. Only here for two nights and didn't use any of the facilities. With tax we paid $65 per night for a deluxe gravel site under trees which made a mess of our car and motorhome when the wind blew with rain and all the construction dust. We wouldn't stay here again. We camped at Garden of the Gods Campground in a Motorhome.

Angel Fire RV Resort, Angel Fire, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

We came for one week and stayed two. It's that nice. And, it didn't hurt that while it was near 100 degrees most everywhere around here, it never exceeded low 80s in Angel Fire and nice cool nights! Such a lovely setting, you have a view of the entire horizon. Sites are large with natural landscaping and perennial flowers. There are literally hundreds of aspens and other trees planted which will make it even better in a few years. Dog park is large, grassy and well maintained. Section 8 is adult only and costs $10 more per night and we spent the first week there. Then we moved to site 201 because that was what was available but we actually preferred it. Close to the office/laundry/dog park and a great view. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Several activities going on from pickle ball, putting, yoga, ice cream sundaes to a hamburger cookout with live music. The laundry machines are new and large and take credit cards only. I only looked at the showers/restroom but they are gorgeous and private. WiFi was out for a day during our stay but they got it fixed and it was good the rest of the time. Cable is also good and it is satellite friendly. Verizon signal is very weak in Angel Fire. Beautiful clubhouse has a ping pong table and a bunch of games, etc. It's not cheap but in this case you do get what you pay for. It's a bit off the beaten path but so worth it and I hope we return someday. We camped at Angel Fire RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Very nice grassy and large dog park so at least there is grass for the dogs.WIFI worked great as well as the cable TV. Staff was friendly and helpful when asked about local places.
