Dream Catcher RV Park - Escapees Rainbow Park, Deming, New Mexico

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

We'll echo previous reviews - large, level gravel parking lot; no trees or table, just hookups. Sites are well spaced and are easy to access. Convenient to I-10, but the noise was not intrusive, and within walking distance of a good restaurant at the adjacent motel. Limited OTA TV, no obstructions to TV satellites, and no cable. Pay to use WiFi but Verizon cell/date worked well. Friendly staff and very helpful individual at the desk. We don't have much reason to stay more than overnight in Deming, and this is a great place to spend the night. We camped at Dream Catcher RV Park - Escapees Rainbow Park in a Motorhome.

Edgington RV Park, Alamogordo, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

We really wanted to like this park; the new owner was friendly, outgoing, and very helpful. But the deteriorating appearance, road noise, and trashy permanent resident area was just too much of negative for us to stay again. Sites are gravel and share the curbside area, with picnic table or trees. Our site's electrical was jury rigged with a wobbly 50A box linked to an extension cord. No cable, but good OTA selection and few obstacles to the satellites. We watched as a resident's dog wandered around and marked his territory on our tires and a cat used the site for a litter box. We can't recommend or stay here again. We camped at Edgington RV Park in a Motorhome.

Cactus RV Park, Tucumcari, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

The park consistently provides a good overnight stay at a reasonable price. Friendly check-in and escort to our site, a long, level gravel pull-thru with shade. Convenient hookups, quiet location, and walking distance to a good restaurant. Extensive analog cable TV, and most sites have a clear view of satellites. Good Verizon cell/data, and the park WiFi worked well. Can be a bit dusty as RVs arrive/depart, but overall well worth the price. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Corral Drive-In RV Park, Guymon, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

An exceptional park in an area largely devoid of quality stays. Easy access, very friendly check-in, and wide gravel interior roads. Our gravel pull-thru was fairly level and spacious, with a large area of grass but no shade. Hookups were well placed except our site required an extension to reach the sewer. No cable but clear views to satellites and ample OTA channels. Good Verizon cell/date but the park WiFi was spotty. An interesting concept - in the summer you can watch the drive-in movies from your site and visit the pizza parlor. We camped at Corral Drive-In RV Park in a Motorhome.

Wacky West Travel Park, Valentine, Nebraska

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

A good overnight stop at the Passport America rate. Our GPS took us down the back streets to bring us to the entrance; it's easier to stay on 20/83 and look for the park across from the Boomgars/IGA shopping center. We had a long, multi-site pull-thru with plenty of room on the curb side; most sites looked a bit short for long 5th wheels. Interior roads and sites are gravel, ours was very level, with convenient hookups. At check-in we were offered a cable box by the very friendly and helpful owner, but deferred and used our satellite. Clear views of satellites, Verizon cell/data were strong, and the park WiFi worked very well. Noise from trains was not significant but the constant bawling of cattle in the nearby feed lot was distracting. A good stay with the PA rate; otherwise overpriced. We camped at Wacky West Travel Park in a Motorhome.

Karrer City Park, McCook, Nebraska

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

This is the type of great little RV Park that we'd never know about without this web site. Just outside of town, easily accessed from any direction. If coming from the west in a big rig, you may need to start your right turn from the center lane as the entrance doubles back in the opposite direction. Pulling into any of the loop sites gives you plenty of room in a shaded, paved area with a picnic table. As others have said, the train runs behind but the noise isn't significant. The 50A power worked well, and Verizon cell and data worked well. Satellite users will want to park in the very first and last sites to clear the trees along the south edge of the park. A great service provided by the city of McCook, don't hesitate to leave a donation. We camped at Karrer City Park in a Motorhome.

Rapid City RV Park and Campground, Rapid City, South Dakota

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is based on monthly stay. We stayed here primarily because of the location. Just outside the heart of Rapid City with easy access to the Black Hills, the bypass to the newer shopping area, and right off the highway, the location makes it easy to access shopping, dining, and tourist attractions. The owners are friendly and are working to improve the park. Sites are tiered, narrow, and fairly level gravel with convenient hookups. An older park, interior roads are crumbling although the owners are working on improvements. The major drawback for us was the water; probably the hardest well water we've ever encountered, it left a film on dishes and required recharging our large water softener every three days. The WiFi generally worked well depending on the time of day, and Verizon cell service was good but data (4G) was intermittent. No cable TV but ample OTA and no restriction to satellites from most sites. A number of long-term residents, mostly in the back-in sites, and some are trashy. If not for the water, we'd love to return, but probably will have to look elsewhere. We camped at Rapid City RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Crystal Springs RV Resort, Ellendale, Minnesota

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Beautifully laid out park, with back-in sites on the lake. Gravel interior roads and large, level gravel sites. Convenient hookups, good WiFi, and Verizon cell/data were strong. Good OTA TV and clear shot to satellites. Although not far from the interstate, large trees and landscaping kept noise to a minimum. Beware that are no signs to the park; the dirt entry road is just past the northbound exit road of I-35; you'll parallel the interstate south for .5 miles to the park entrance. Call on arrival since there is no office; someone will come by to collect the fee (check or cash). Lots of nice grass, plenty of space between sites, and a beautiful lake to fish. A great place to spend time. We camped at Crystal Springs RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Ellsworth AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp), Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We've found in our travels that many military campgrounds are an afterthought to MWR when it comes to management, and after two visits this year we've had it confirmed here. Our first visit earlier this year, we never saw the host during a three week stay. This time, we were assigned a site when making the phone reservation, only to find out after we had arrived and set up (no one answered the host phone) that we had to move for a "long term camper" in spite of there being many empty sites. We moved and watched as the site we moved from was occupied for one night and then was vacant. In addition to having to move for no reason other then incompetent scheduling, the price of $28/night with no weekly or monthly rate is unreasonable for a military location of this average quality. We've found better locations in the Rapid City area for less, which removes Ellsworth as a military benefit. We camped at Ellsworth AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Arrowwood Cedar Shore Resort, Oacoma, South Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

We were disappointed to find that unlike the description on the web site, this park is a below average campground instead of a "resort". Check in was in a small office where we noticed that the single washer/dryer were too dirty to use. We were assigned a pull-thru site that faced uphill and was sloped to the point of being unable to level without raising the rear wheels off of the ground. Sites are dirt with ragged grass and small trees. We watched as two other RVs gave up trying to get level and drove around to find a site they could use. Also frustrating was to see the empty pull-thru sites facing the river that were reasonably level and that sat empty. Cable TV was basic eleven channels and fuzzy analog. WiFi was weak and would not connect. At this nightly rate we expected at least average service and were disappointed. Probably a good spot to stay long-term, as the back-in sites were paved and level, but for the short term there are better options. We camped at Arrowwood Cedar Shore Resort in a Motorhome.

Randall Creek Recreation Area, Pickstown, South Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

This is a large recreation area along the banks of the Missouri River just below Randall Dam. Paved interior roads wind through trees and some turns can be tight. Some paved sites, many gravel are generally large and well spaced. Most sites are shaded, and there are large areas of grass, hiking next door at Fort Randall NP, and access points for fishing in the river. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring, and firewood is available in the park. Very popular with fisherman and reservations are a must since the check-in booth is seldom open, but web site has photos of each site. No OTA TV but most sites have access to the TV satellites. Verizon cell service was good but data was slow. Large dump station and water available near restrooms. Without an annual State Park pass, an additional fee of $6 per vehicle is charged. Noisy and busy during the weekend, but very quiet during the week. We camped at Randall Creek Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Nothing much in nearby Pickstown. Wagner, about 15 miles has shopping and restaurants. The Fort Randall Casino, 8 miles, has a good restaurant and is a nice casino. Fort Randall NP has a trail with interpretive signs and the remains of the chapel and is worth a visit.

Dakota Sunsets RV Park and Campground, Salem, South Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived on a crowded holiday weekend to find our reserved pull-thu site was occupied and unavailable; however, the very friendly and helpful manager closed the office to personally guide us into a site that allowed us to keep our tow vehicle attached. Older, small park with tight turns on the interior gravel roads, but level gravel sites and lots of trees and grass. Hookups were OK, and although no cable, OTA received 10 channels and we found an open spot to use our tripod satellite mount. Verizon cell/data were good, and the park WiFi was intermittent due to the large number of people in the park. Very quiet at night due to location well off the Interestate, but still convenient to access. We camped at Dakota Sunsets RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Jackpot Junction Casino RV Park, Morton, Minnesota

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We enjoyed our three-day stay here. Enter the casino loop & park just short of the park. Go to the player's club first and get a card to reduce the price to $25/night. Then to the "tours" window to pay and get a site. We found the tours and campground host to be very friendly and helpful. The park is well laid out and easy to enter. Paved interior roads with large, level concrete pads and a patio with built-in table and a fire ring with grill. Grass covered spacious sites and solid hookups. The cable was extensive and very clear, and there are no obstructions to the satellites. The WiFi was slow to moderate throughout our stay, and Verizon cell/data was good. No bathroom facilities at the park except porta-johns although plans are in the works to build a restroom/shower area. Overall, a pleasant stay - quiet, dark at night, and reasonably priced. We camped at Jackpot Junction Casino RV Park in a Motorhome.

DeParcq Woods (Military FamCamp), Little Falls, Minnesota

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Quiet, heavily treed, with huge sites spaced well apart, this park is a perfect getaway. Level, wide concrete pads, 50A power and water, with a convenient dump station at the exit. Fire rings and free firewood, large table, a short walk to the Mississippi River.

Good WiFi, acceptable Verizon cell/data, and while there is no cable or clear area for satellites, we received nine OTA channels. Very quiet post, and except for the mosquitoes, a perfect place to spend a day or two. We camped at DeParcq Woods (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Leech Lake Rec Area COE, Federal Dam, Minnesota

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This is the kind of park you wish for as a traveler - beautiful large sites in a park like setting. Paved interior roads are narrow but doable in a large motor home. Our full-hookup site had a large table and fire ring, and backed up to the forest. No WiFi or cable, but Verizon cell/data worked well and although there are lots of trees, we were able to find the satellites with a tripod mount. Extremely well maintained by a large cadre of friendly volunteers, quiet at night, and even free firewood from downed trees. An enjoyable stay and very reasonable using the Golden Access pass. Only a few full hookup sites, so reservations are a must. We camped at Leech Lake Rec Area COE in a Motorhome.
