The Mill Casino RV Park, North Bend, Oregon

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is discounted rate for frequent players and included full hookups. This has become our favorite stop when traveling through the area. The staff and check-in is more like a hotel than an RV Park, and you pay at checkout. Discounts are offered for dining at the casino. All paved interior roads and sites, both back-in and pull-through, and most have a view of Coos Bay. Hookups are convenient and the cable TV worked well. Wi-Fi worked sporadically depending on time of day, and Verizon cell/4G was strong. No obstructions to rooftop satellites. A very well maintained and professionally operated park; we'll return again. We camped at The Mill Casino RV Park in a Motorhome.

Robbin's Nest RV Park, Bandon, Oregon

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

A small park with easy access to highway 101 and convenient to Bandon. Interior roads and sites are gravel with extra long pull-thrus, grass, fire ring, and picnic table. Very friendly and helpful host checked to see if our stay was comfortable. Fenced and very quiet at night. Verizon cell/4g were strong, and there were no obstructions to rooftop satellite. A convenient, quiet, and reasonably priced stay for an overnight or longer; we'll visit again. We camped at Robbin's Nest RV Park in a Motorhome.

Rice Hill RV Park, Oakland, Oregon

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Beautifully maintained park convenient to I-5, fuel stops, and restaurants, yet fairly quiet at night. Paved interior roads and sites, with long pull-thrus, grass, and table. Row one sites are sloped downward, and our site's sewer location required and extension. Good hookups, WiFi, and cable TV, and Verizon service was strong. No obstructions to rooftop satellite dish. Very friendly and helpful check in. Not much in the area, but a great place to overnight while traveling. We camped at Rice Hill RV Park in a Motorhome.

Silver Spur RV Park, Silverton, Oregon

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Well-maintained, large RV park convenient to Silverton, Oregon Gardens, and Silver Falls. Interior roads and sites are gravel, with long pull-throughs that are level. Grass and small trees, with picnic table at each site. Good cable TV and Wi-Fi, and Verizon service was strong. No obstructions to the TV satellites. Very friendly and professional staff. Some road noise but fairly quiet at night. We'll return. We camped at Silver Spur RV Park in a Motorhome.

Cascade Meadows RV Resort, La Pine, Oregon

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

This "resort" is in an open field next to busy highway 97, without trees or paved roads/sites. Roads are dusty and potholed, and the gravel pull-thrus, while long and very spacious on each side, are not level. The picnic table at our site was too warped to be of use, and the sewer hookup was far back in the site and required and extension. No cable, little OTA, but no obstructions to TV satellites. WiFi was intermittent, but Verizon cell/4G was good. Unlike others, we found the road noise to be very intrusive, and trains, at least two during the night, added to the noise factor. We'll look for a quieter park next time we're in the area. We camped at Cascade Meadows RV Resort in a Motorhome.

The Narrows RV Park, Princeton, Oregon

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is Passport America. Large, open park with long, level gravel pull-thrus. Each site has a patio, table, grill table, and fire ring, and a small tree, all convenient to the front of the RV. Good hookups, but WiFi didn't work during our stay. Cable TV was good, and Verizon cell/4G were slow due to the remote location. Convenient to the wildlife refuge and Steens Mountain, but not much in the area. On-site restaurant was open seven days a week along with small store. Nice stay at the PA rate but not at the full rate. We camped at The Narrows RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Malheur Wildlife Refuge is one of the premier birding locations in the US, but bring plenty of mosquito repellant. The Steens Mountain scenic loop is surprisingly scenic and shouldn't be missed.

Vale Trails RV Park , Vale, Oregon

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Nice, tree-shaded park convenient to Highway 20 and Vale. Interior roads and sites are gravel with long, level pull-thrus. Water and electric are at the back of the site and may be a problem. Limited Cable TV and little chance of viewing TV satellites through the trees. Very good WiFi, and Verizon cell/4G were strong. Helpful and friendly lady in the office. Quiet and dark at night. A nice stay, we'll visit again. We camped at Vale Trails RV Park in a Motorhome.

Swiftwater RV Park & Store, White Bird, Idaho

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is Passport America. This is a well-maintained, small park that is very difficult for large motor homes or fifth-wheels to enter and maneuver into sites. Coming from the south, the entry is at least a 60-degree left turn and cannot be made by most motor homes without swinging into a parking area across the road. Center pull-thrus are short, and riverfront sites, which are pull-in for motor homes, require unhooking the tow to maneuver into the site. No cable, and WiFi is extremely slow. Verizon cell/data were unusable. Trees surrounding the park make it difficult to use rooftop satellites. Nice view of the river once you're parked. A great park for small to medium-sized RVs. We camped at Swiftwater RV Park & Store in a Motorhome.

Clearwater Crossing RV Park, Orofino, Idaho

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice park where site selection makes it average or well above. We'd been here before, so selected a long pull thru site (21) across from the office. This gave us an unobstructed view of the river, large area with landscaping, and a table. The host is a sweet lady who stopped by to make sure we had everything we needed. No train noise while we were there, and not much interior traffic. WiFi and cable were good, and Verizon cell/4G worked well. No obstructions to the TV satellites. Access requires driving through the hardware store parking lot and across uneven railroad tracks with a short dusty section, but take it slow and it's no problem. We'll stay here again. We camped at Clearwater Crossing RV Park in a Motorhome.

Square Dance Center and Campground, Lolo, Montana

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Price reflects weekly rate. Nice parks with full hookups are scarce in this area, and this has become our park of choice when in the area. Very friendly staff, forest-like atmosphere, and large sites combine to make this a worthwhile stay. Strong free WiFi and very good cable, and Verizon cell/4G were also good. Lots of trees but some sites have a clear view of the TV satellites. Some dust and tree sap, but not enough to detract from the experience. We'll stay here again. We camped at Square Dance Center and Campground in a Motorhome.

Fairmont RV Park, Anaconda, Montana

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Well off the interstate, the park is average except in price. Check-in was by a disinterested office clerk, although her assistant was friendly and helpful. Gravel interior roads and sites, with a sewer hookup that was too far to the rear to use without an extension. Sites are above medium sized with grass and trees; however, there's room for a clear view of the TV satellites. Verizon cell/4G were strong, and the free WiFi was spotty. Next to a hot springs resort, but otherwise not much in the immediate area. Without a specific reason to spend time here, the overnight price is excessive and we'll look elsewhere when traveling through the area. We camped at Fairmont RV Park in a Motorhome.

Mountain Range RV Park (Winters - Monthly Only), Columbus, Montana

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Close to the interstate with easy access but not much noise, the park is slightly terraced with long, mostly level pull-thru gravel sites. Friendly office staff at check in. WiFi was typical campground erratic and there's no cable but some OTA TV. Some trees but not much impedance to satellite TV. Verizon cell/4G were very good, and hookups worked well. A good overnight stop that we'll use again. We camped at Mountain Range RV Park (Winters - Monthly Only) in a Motorhome.

Peter D's RV Park, Sheridan, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Nicely maintained, convenient park with friendly owners. Convenient to the interstate but quiet at night. As mentioned before, beware the turn on to Joe Street. Sites are close together but long, fairly level gravel and the owner will keep spaces open on either side if possible. He furnished a stack of maps and menus while recommending places to visit and checked at the site each day to make sure we were comfortable. The WiFi was hit and miss depending on user activity. The cable was marginal but there are no obstructions to satellite TV. Verizon cell/4G were very good. A bit pricey but the location and friendly owners make it a worthwhile stay. We'll stay here again. We camped at Peter D's RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Sheridan is a beautiful place with a vibrant downtown. The Wyoming Chop House is a short drive and has excellent food. The Trail End Historic Mansion is exceptional and well worth a visit. A drive into the mountains on highway 14 is a must; we watched as moose grazed along the highway.

Ellsworth AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp), Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

The Ellsworth AFB Famcamp provides a reasonably priced location to explore the Black Hills. Five miles west of Rapid City, it's an easy drive to Custer State Park and other attractions. Access is by any of the three gates without restriction, and check in was easy with the very friendly and helpful host. Sites are level concrete, a mix of back-ins in the old section and pull-thrus in the new, for a total of 38 RV sites with 8 more under construction. The WiFi worked, but was affected by the number of campers using it, and Verizon cell/4G was good. No cable, but clear shot to TV satellites and good OTA TV. Grass was high on arrival due to snow/rain but was cut while we were there, as usual spraying grass onto the RV. Probably the most professional gate guards in the military, and everyone at the commissary, BX, etc., was friendly and helpful. The $1 raise in rates provides free washers and dryers, so the nightly rate is now $21. This is a popular place, so make reservations. We camped at Ellsworth AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Cabela's RV Park & Campground, Sidney, Nebraska

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

We've stayed here before in the spring and it's always the same. No attendant and no forms to complete in the self-service kiosk. We opted for the electric-only rate, made up our own form, and deposited the form and a check in the lock box. We picked a site with full hookups and used electric only due to the short length of the available electric-only sites, but with no one present, it's likely some folks didn't pay at all which is Cabela's fault. Otherwise the park is nice - level gravel sites and a grassy area with table and small tree. Quiet at night, with easy access to the Interstate and local restaurants. No WiFi or cable, but satellite TV and Verizon cell/data worked well. A popular place, the park was 3/4 full by sunset. Good for an overnight stay but there's not much here otherwise. We camped at Cabela's RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

This is the corporate headquarters for Cabela's, but don't expect a mega-store or bargains. There's a super Wal-Mart down the road, and plenty of restaurant choices nearby.
