Pancho Villa State Park, Columbus, New Mexico

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed here for one night so I could go to Palomas for Dental Work. The site itself was fine with water and Electric and a shaded Picnic Table. I stayed toward the back f the park in site number 40. Television was a bit hard to find but I eventually got a few channels. I did hear some road noise until about 9PM but after that I heard nothing. The guy who checked me in was a little rude and that's how they got a 9 instead of a 10. I would swear I saw him pocket my rental fee. No issues with electric. I did not use water. We camped at Pancho Villa State Park in a Motorhome.

Stagecoach RV Ranch, Deming, New Mexico

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

There is no shade here. When I checked in they did try to get me a spot with less wind and close to the clubhouse if I needed to use the showers. I would have given this park a higher rating but for concerns about the electric. When I first plugged in and only had my computer and television on, my pedestal breaker blew. I had to go reset it. After that it seemed to stay stable. In the morning when I unhooked, my electric cord was warm to touch. I had run a small space heater at half pour at night. It cycles off and on. When I informed management about the electrical issue, they seemed unconcerned and like many parks tried to blame it on my RV and the heater. I only run a small class C and my electrical was tested just six months ago with the heater load present. I wish the issue had not come up because otherwise, the stay was ok. The park sits south of town far enough not to hear I-10 traffic noise and the trains. OTA television worked just fine. It could be a gem some day, but it's not there yet. We camped at Stagecoach RV Ranch in a Motorhome.

Country Court RV Park, Anniston, Alabama

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

My spot was all grass. Some guy who was filling in for the owner pounced on me to get $30 cash. The WIFI cuts in and out, the cable does not work and he ran some water to make sure "there weren't any bugs." I did not hook up to the water. No sewer to hook to. One of two choices in the area. The other is an outrageously priced KOA. In general, I 20 in Alabama and Mississippi lacks RV parks. Good Sam rated this a 5/5/5 It should be a 2/2/2. We camped at Country Court RV Park in a Motorhome.

Double Nickel Campground, Waco, Nebraska

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Put on a lousy site, sideways to the wind so my rig rocked all night long.

No cable, electric too low to the ground. Wi-Fi was marginal.

Like many other parks their price is way too high for what they offer. We camped at Double Nickel Campground in a Motorhome.

Gunsmoke RV Park, Dodge City, Kansas

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

This is another campground fading because of total lack of enthusiasm from the ownership. This place has been for sale for years.

Web site claims they have cable, they don't.

Web site claims they have Wi-Fi. It didn't work well.

Electric was on an old rusted pedestal.

There was a tree above my site that scratched my roof all night long.

There is a train across the street but the noise when it goes by is loud enough to make you think it jumped its tracks.

The price for what was offered was outrageous.

This place just added to my overall disappointment concerning Dodge City. The whole place is a joke. if you have to be in Dodge for some reason stay here only if you have no other choice. We camped at Gunsmoke RV Park in a Motorhome.

Fort Amarillo RV Resort, Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed here a couple of years ago and they had some things under construction and were supposed to be improving, so I gave them a second shot.

The old guy at the desk seemed angry when I asked to use my Good Sam

discount. I also let him know I was a repeat customer. Of course he could not find me in their computer system.

I was given a spot in what was obviously a transient area. The light on my pedestal was busted and the cable was so grainy and snowy it was unusable. So I walked about 5 rows back to the office, to let them know.

Old man claimed they were ordering parts. That was the same line I heard two years ago.

The WIFI is working so far and so is the electric. Their sewer connections are tiny. I could not use it if I wanted to. Almost $40 is a rip off for this place. Luckily I can pick up over the air channels. Their cable selection is a joke anyway, even if I could see it through all the snow.

One of their maintenance guys came over and was working on the spot next to me. He told me the cable parts were for a different section, not where I was. He checked the connection in my Pedestal and it was tight.

Yes, the cable connection is under the pedestal lid, about four inches from the electric plugs. Stupid design.

This place won't see another dime from me and hopefully not from you. We camped at Fort Amarillo RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Colorado Landing, La Grange, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Started off with yet another snotty 20 something behind the desk. Mommy and Daddy own this dump. Cable was supposed to be 60 channels and I managed 12 snowy channels. She was supposed to get daddy to come check it out. Never happened. WIFI is marginal with 2 bars.

This place is an overpriced rip-off. Stay somewhere else. We camped at Colorado Landing in a Motorhome.

SeaWind RV Resort, Riviera, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Played Winter Texan from December to late March. One of the two younger singles among 65-90 year old couples. The other single was 21.

Developed some casual friendships, but most of them gave me no more courtesy than a hello. Lots of cliques especially during meals. I was angrily snarled away from tables several times.

Leadership among the "Winter Texans" controls virtually every activity.

Lots of little people who demand to be King or Queen. I dropped back out of several activities because of attitudes. Even things where I could contribute greatly. I let the little titans have their turf and walked away.

By the end of the three months, I had bitten my tongue to the point of bleeding.

Park Manager was great, Park staff was horrible. Especially the Activities Director. A Witch without a Broom.

Verizon doesn't work there and the park WIFI is a pathetic joke. They try to force you to buy a phone line for DSL. If you can afford to use ATT and have a Hotspot, you'll be fine.

If you are a guy who doesn't fish, doesn't golf, doesn't play poker and doesn't sit around getting drunk, you'll be bored to tears. Most of the activities are for the ladies.

The roads are collapsing, the electrical boxes are very old. No money sucked from the park is being spent to improve it. This is a cash cow for Kleberg County to subsidize the rest of their county.

It was an experience to write a book, but something I will not repeat. We camped at SeaWind RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Closest town is 10 miles away. Gas station and a Dairy Queen.

All supplies and most other daily necessities require a 27 mile one way drive to Kingsville.

Both access roads to the park flood during heavy rains.

Ambulance is 10 miles away if you're lucky.

Triple T RV Resort, Kerrville, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2015 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed at this place for 4 nights. Normally the Passport America is only good for two days. They gave me a partial discount on day three and then due to having to deal with a disgruntled employee I got the full discount on day four.

This place is on two levels. I got parked next to the entrance road so I got hammered by people ignoring their speed limit and kicking up tons of dust until the ice storm hit. I had to shut windows.

You have to walk up a steep hill to make use of the laundry, Showers, and their "Lodge." The bathrooms and their laundry were fine. I did not bother to see the ping-pong table and TV in their lodge.

The girl who checked me in was rude. Evidently I caught her the day she was fired. Good riddance. Her second was nice, but also was planning on leaving.

Without a discount, this place would be far too expensive. It's out in the middle of nowhere. 10 miles from Kerrville. Unfortunately, it's the cheapest place worth staying at. We camped at Triple T RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Angels in Goliad RV Park, Goliad, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2015 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed at this park for two months, from just before Christmas 2014 to the third week of February. I got the monthly rate of $300 plus electric which is billed at .14/KWH. Most of the other parks around charge .12. But they also demand a $50 to $100 deposit which this park does not. I chose a spot on the hill right next to the WiFi which was terrific until the two diesel trucks in the next spot parked right on top of me. I put up with this for two nights and then asked to move. No problem. I moved to the far end of the park, away from the trucks and the road noise and this cost me two bars on the WIFI signal. There are no restrooms, showers or laundry here. That makes life a bit tenuous if you don't have a self contained unit. I do but the shower is a 3' by 3' joke. This became a hassle. The closest laundry facilities are in Beeville or Victoria. They do have a laundry service available for a fee. There is nothing onsite to do. No Rec room, no activities, etc. This park is geared toward the Fracking Workers. It is not a destination park. We camped at Angels in Goliad RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The town of Goliad doesn't offer much either. You can visit the tourist trap square with their overpriced ships and restaurants. And you can visit the fort which was an interesting half hour. Otherwise your choices are two lousy Mexican Restaurants, a Subway, A Pizza Shop that keeps odd hours and a Dairy Queen.

Rockwell RV Park, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Pull thru under a tree close to laundry, so I was thrilled until the machines didn't work and I had to redo the loads at the next camp because they ended up smelling. The sites were Pea Gravel and not too level. There was no lighting around the park. The TV worked all night but the WIFI died before Midnight. When I commented this morning the guy claimed he had to climb the roof "to reset the system." When I called him on that lie, he told me to never come back again. We camped at Rockwell RV Park in a Motorhome.

Harris Brake Lakeside Resort , Perryville, Arkansas

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

I went here because they are listed in both the Passport America and the Escapees Books. They honored neither discount. They have been placing vague Workcamper ads on various sites so I inquired about this, too. They want a slave for their site trade. They are calling it a Camp Host Position. The site they put me in took me 10 minutes to maneuver my rig into, avoiding bushes, a sign and extra cars parked from people who evidently live there year round. The electric hookup was on the side of a slippery hill and was loose. The cable hookup was almost at ground level and half the channels had static. The site itself was barely long enough for my rig and the back end of it was a ditch. I listened to a barking dog until 10 PM and again at 7 the next morning. The WIFI worked for about 5 minutes. When I called the office she told me it was my computer. Their WiFi spent most of the night searching for a network signal. This place is a dump on a hill about 50 yards from the lake. There aren't lake views because everyone has to back in. They are trying to sell this dump for almost 1,000,000. The owners want to go back to England. I has a plan to stay there for a month. I almost left in the middle of the night. Stay away and camp elsewhere. We camped at Harris Brake Lakeside Resort in a Motorhome.
