Temperate Zone RV Park, Deming, New Mexico

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

Small park with about twenty sites. About 10 miles north of Deming on 180 and then two miles east on dusty, slightly wash boarded gravel. Owner exceptionally pleasant. Some mature mulberry trees. Sites are gravel and spacious. No outside lights after 9pm. No noisy dogs. This place is quiet. Laundry is on the honor system. Club house has a couple hundred DVDs for use. Verizon good. At&t not. No wifi. Over the air tv. Address is 14870 Perrin Rd NW, Deming NM. Our garmin worked fine to get us here. We camped at Temperate Zone RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Vaughn RV Park, Vaughn, New Mexico

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

Pay at the Western motel but don't know how well that will work as motel is now closed. No credit cards. Campsites are about two blocks west of the motel behind the city park. Pull through sites on the grass. There was another campground east of the motel which I think is run by the same people but it was full. Also a third campground to the east which also says Western motel but owner at the motel said that was not hers. Ok place to camp when just passing through. We camped at Vaughn RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Badu Park, Llano, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Paved parking lot with yellow stripes. Full hookup. Fairly close to river and right next to city park. Sites are wide but a large motor home may be too long. There is another city park across the river which will accommodate all sizes and has river access but it is $27.00. Self pay. Seven day limit. We camped at Badu Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Elephant Butte Lake State Park, Lions Beach Campground, Elephant Butte, New Mexico

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed in Lion's cove. Sites are suitable for larger rigs. There seems to be room for most slide outs. There is a view of the lake but the water level is very low. Sites are very level in this campground. A lot of people from Albuquerque come here for the weekend. Very clean and host even rakes the gravel. We camped at Elephant Butte Lake State Park, Lions Beach Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Nice museum in Truth of Consequences. Geronimo Springs museum. They have several rooms from prehistoric times to the 1950's. Lots of items and lots of descriptions of items. Also good history on the surrounding small towns. We spent two hours there. We could have spent a lot longer if we wished. $6.00 for adults or $5.00 for seniors.

Bottomless Lakes State Park, Roswell, New Mexico

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Half reserved camping and half first come first serve. About 1/3 are pull through sites. Suitable for larger rigs. Lakes are nice. Visitor center is small but informative. Some of the displays are hands on so children won't be so bored. Visitor center hours sporadic during the off season. Nice setting to stay a few days. Cons are some flies and occasionally mosquitoes in the evening. Also lots of puncture vine so keep your pets on the gravel. Campground was nearly full the first weekend we were there but after that never more than 50% of capacity. We camped at Bottomless Lakes State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Oasis State Park, Portales, New Mexico

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

A park in the middle of pasture country. It does have trees and a three acre lake stocked for fishing. Not a place I would go out of the way to see but they do their best with what they have. My main complaint is the dump station has been out of service for over a year. Area around it is dug up but looks like nothing has been done for quite a while. We camped at Oasis State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Bluewater Lake State Park, Prewitt, New Mexico

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Pleasant but not much reason to stay more than one night. Do not go south at Thoreau unless you want primitive camping. Take the exit at Prewitt which will take you to the campground with electric and water. Gate locked at 9pm in October and 6pm in November. You can still get out but can't get in. Lake very low. We camped at Bluewater Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Coyote Creek State Park, Guadalupita, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Smaller sites but adequate. Nice and quiet. No verizon service at campground. Dump station was closed as bridge washed out. Nice and secluded in a valley between mountains. Road to north of campground towards Angel Fire has about seven miles which is very narrow. Watch the road ahead in case you have to stop to let oncoming traffic by. We camped at Coyote Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Navajo Lake State Park, Pine Main Campground, Navajo Dam, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Camped on bluff above the lake. About half the sites can be reserved until November 1st when it is all first come, first served. Many sites can accommodate larger 5th wheels but some are pretty tight to get into. First weekend in October 100% full with fishermen snagging salmon and fishing trout. Several open spots during the week. Visitor center was closed a lot of the time which made it harder to determine which sites were available. There is another state campground a few miles away (Cottonwood) and it was full also during the weekend. We camped at Navajo Lake State Park, Pine Main Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Salmon Ruins near Bloomfield is a county run pueblo. Interesting and not nearly as formal as National Park Service sites.

Heron Lake State Park, Tierra Amarilla, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed in Blanco loop. Big clean sites. Many pull-through sites. Visitor center closed. Park was nearly empty. One way road through campground except many of the pull-through sites are accessed by going the opposite way. Sign at entrance to loop tells you which sites are accessed going the "wrong way." Spacious. Willow Creek sites are not as spacious or as easy to access. We camped at Heron Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Sugarite Canyon State Park, Raton, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Alice campground was the only area open. Sites are rather small, typical for a state campground, but some suitable for larger rigs. Pretty busy for October. Three overflow sites across the road which were not used. Visitor center was closed. Showers are about two miles away and are open during the day only. Nice walk around abandoned coal mine town starting at the visitor center. We camped at Sugarite Canyon State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Valentine City Park, Valentine, Nebraska

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $5.00
Overall Rating:

Go north on main street and down the hill. After crossing the bridge turn right into campground. Keep to the left and the campsites are an undesignated area on the left side of the road next to the stream. I would estimate 3 to 6 sites depending on how close you wanted to be to your neighbor. Site closest to the wooden bridge is long enough for large camper. The parking area is sand and uneven but we were able to level the trailer without unhooking. No hookups. Picnic table and charcoal grill. Trash barrel. Very pretty spot next to a stream about 30 feet wide with good flow. 36 hole disc golf course. Hiking path along the stream. Wooden pedestrian bridge. Playground equipment. Fishing. My guess is this campground is often full in the summer. Do not go past the park road with the "no outlet" sign as no turn around. We camped at Valentine City Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Chaplin's RV Park, Sedalia, Missouri

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Older park in a industrial section of town. Many rigs look like they have been here a while. Automobile wheel manufacturer close by so noisy 24 hours a day. We used earplugs. The owners are friendly. All pull thru sites. Easy access to Walmart and State Fair. Dead end road so no through traffic. Passport American rate is $18 which to me seems rather high for this campground. We camped at Chaplin's RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Beazley Aviation Museum in Marshall Mo which is 30 miles north. $6 entrance fee per person. Good entertainment for adults and kids. Tells the story of the Beazley Aviation Manufacturing Company which went broke in the 30's. Contains activities for children and adults. Flight simulators for young and old. DC9 cockpit complete with gauges and switches for people to sit in. Children's hands on aviation education.

Shady Oaks Campground & RV Park, Harrison, Arkansas

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Small park off the road a ways. Friendly check in. Pull through site. Trees and shade. Park is well kept. Utilities are easy to hook to and worked well. Sites and roads are gravel. I wouldn't call it big rig friendly but probably usable. Site was level. Didn't try the cable hookup. Verizon worked well. We camped at Shady Oaks Campground & RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
