Country Village RV Park, Ishpeming, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

A convenient place to stay when transiting Michigan's UP. Enter the Country Lane address into your GPS in order to make the correct turn off US-41. Rate has increased since our last visit, no on-line reservations and none of the usual discounts for Good Sam, etc. Sites are mainly back-in, some of the earlier long pull throughs appear to have been repurposed. Spacing is fine and the systems all work (except the internet!). Good sky access for our satellite dish. The ground was soft, our coach's tires and jacks left indentations in the gravel and dirt pad ... could be a problem in really sloppy weather. Overall, it was fine for an overnight or even a few days ... would stop here again. We camped at Country Village RV Park in a Motorhome.

Grand Casino Hinckley RV Resort, Hinckley, Minnesota

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

A convenient place to stay when passing through the area, with trips to the casino and restaurant/bars an added bonus. Good access roads, but the sites are mainly back-ins ... not sure how they are assigned, ours provided no additional space for our towed car, others were longer. Over the years, we have seen the trees encroach across part of the roadway, needs some caution when entering or exiting to avoid damaging the vehicle. Good satellite and internet access. Great value! We camped at Grand Casino Hinckley RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Sioux Falls KOA, Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

Easy access to/from I-90 and also close to downtown. Friendly and helpful staff, well maintained. We were assigned their only deluxe pull through patio site ... a concrete pad next to the laundry building, fully equipped with table, chairs, slider, fire and grill. The building provided some shade and was a delightful place to sit out, until someone turned on a dryer, which is vented to the patio area ... pretty unpleasant. Also, some other campers seemed to think that the patio was an OK access route for them to get to the laundry/restrooms ... ducking around us and our coach slides to do so! Good access to the sky for our satellite dish, the wi-fi was only a wi-fi signal, no internet access ... but cell signal was great, so we used our hotspots. We camped at Sioux Falls KOA in a Motorhome.

Billings KOA, Billings, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $84.00
Overall Rating:

Generally, a very well kept park, great staff with plenty of things to do. Pity that some guests with a "we're leaving in the morning" attitude don't clear up after their pet, especially on the ground at the west side of the complex. Like other older KOAs, it still has a layout from a time when RVs were smaller, making today's big rig motor homes and 5th wheels a challenge to maneuver around the roads. Had to park our towed car sideways to fit on the site footprint. Our patio site was excellent, but trees and low branches meant I had to back out rather than pull through to exit. Access to the sky for satellite and the wi-fi was acceptable. Would visit again. We camped at Billings KOA in a Motorhome.

Yellowstone Park / Mountainside KOA, West Yellowstone, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $81.00
Overall Rating:

Convenient location for W Yellowstone and the surrounding area, out of the town, but just a few minutes away. Good views of the valley and surrounding mountains. Busy with lots of departures and arrivals, dirt roads with a fair amount of dust. Huge mix-up between the office and the other staff over our site assignment, we were led to a pull through site with low limbed trees blocking the pull through. When I pointed out the error in assignments I was told this was all they had ... a clear "take it or leave it" attitude. The site was very uneven, requiring some careful positioning. When I expressed concern about getting my coach leveled without jamming the slides, the response was further belittlement! The services were reasonable, good access to the sky for my TV satellite and an acceptable wi-fi signal. But, this comes at a price, the rate is very high for what the campground is. The discounted $81 is an average of weekend and weekday rates we were charged. We camped at Yellowstone Park / Mountainside KOA in a Motorhome.

Mount Rushmore KOA, Hill City, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $84.00
Overall Rating:

A large and tidy resort with lots of activities on-site. Great for families looking for a place that has everything on premises. The staff were friendly and helpful. All this comes at a price, our daily rate included the $10 "resort" fee and also $3 for each of our 2 dogs. However, a huge negative is the lack of on-site connectivity - the cell signal is weak, drops out most of the time, and the wi-fi is just about nonexistent. Might be OK if you are just on the road for a few days, but for extended travel we need either a cell signal or wi-fi for our typical on the road stuff ... personal finances, route planning, monitoring security at our residence, etc. Hauling a brief case and mobile printer several miles up the road to find a stronger cell signal is unacceptable ... the worst connected campground we've stayed at in probably the last 4-5 years! Both of these items could be addressed with infrastructure - a cell signal booster and an upgraded internet service - rather than laugh it off, saying "we're remote, this is the best we can do". Other campgrounds have found solutions, it just requires an investment ... KOA charges enough for this place! One final point, be careful of visiting if you have anyone in your party with respiratory issues, the smoke from the evening camp fires does not naturally clear very quickly, hanging in the bowl-type valley, causing many hours of distress. We camped at Mount Rushmore KOA in a Motorhome.

Cedar City KOA, Cedar City, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

The park has been expanded from its earlier close and cramped configuration, now features lengthy pull through sites for big rigs. Caution: when entering and leaving watch for the bump as you cross the curb. Good access to the places we wanted to visit, services worked just fine ... internet marginal. We camped at Cedar City KOA in a Motorhome.

Portal RV Resort and Campground, Moab, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in the premium side of the resort, large concrete pads and plenty of space between sites. Well maintained, the staff attend to the landscaping and surrounding areas each morning. There had been a heavy rain a few days before our arrival and there was a lingering smell of the septic system, plus one of the dog parks had goopy residual mud on the grass. Good internet and access to the sky for our satellite dish ... just. There are high buildings on some of the premium sites which could easily block the sky if you are assigned a site right next to these buildings. We camped at Portal RV Resort and Campground in a Motorhome.

Springville/Provo KOA , Springville, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very clean, well maintained KOA. Unfortunately, it was configured in the days when RVs were a lot smaller and therefore barely copes with the sizes of today's larger rigs. Our 45 ft motorhome took up the entire "pull through" site, from road to road. Exiting forward was not feasible, requiring me to carefully reverse out the next morning. Sites are also very close together. We camped at Springville/Provo KOA in a Motorhome.

St. Cloud Campground & RV Park, St. Cloud, Minnesota

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed for an overnight while transiting the area. Overall, it was OK ... dusty with an uneven site. Lots of obstacles, play close attention to the swimming pool and swing wide, as instructed by the escort. Our pull through lot was very close to the adjoining site and had trees blocking the exit ... I had to unhitch our towed vehicle and make several back and forth moves to exit without damaging the paintwork. We camped at St. Cloud Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.

The Longhorn Ranch Lodge & RV Resort, Dubois, Wyoming

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $62.00
Overall Rating:

Rustic, well maintained park on the banks of the Wind River, shade from mature cottonwood trees. Gravel roads and pads, but dust was not a problem. Great internet signal and access to the sky for our satellite dish, newly fenced dog park. Some back in sites require a long back-up to enter, causing some guests to cut through other sites to make access to their sites easier. Except for the last issue, which we raised with the office, it was a great place to stay for a couple of weeks. We camped at The Longhorn Ranch Lodge & RV Resort in a Motorhome.
