Spring Hill Mobile Home Park, Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here in mid-October in a 42 ft. coach, site #8.This park was once a mobile home park & is really what I would call "camping" & definitely not "glamping". The utilities are good, but if you have satellite tv, you're not going to be watching tv unless mgt. loans you a cable box to connect. The owner is nice enough & will do what he can to accommodate, but honestly this is about as basic as it gets. I cannot understand why some developer does not build at least a 20 site class A rv park in the area. The only really decent facility we have found in the area is the state fairground, but that is unavailable for the entire month of October. We camped at Spring Hill Mobile Home Park in a Motorhome.

Lynchburg / Blue Ridge Parkway KOA, Monroe, Virginia

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here the first week of October in site B13 pull-thru which was one of the easiest ones you may find. Utilities were good, but I have to say there alot of trees in the KOA & even a seasoned veteran coach driver may find the maneuvering a bit tight. If you have satellite tv, I doubt that you will be able to get signal, but on the realistic side, you are literally minutes from the most pristine part of the Blue Ridge Parkway & the views are spectacular & there are quite a few of challenging hikes to do. Fuel & groceries are a bout a 30 minute drive to Lynchburg. You might want to note that around the time we were there, the park seems to have an issue with stink bugs that will find their way into your unit & by mid October, the Chinese ladybugs come to town in a large way. Other than that, the park owners are really nice & helpful & will do their best to see that your stay is good. We camped at Lynchburg / Blue Ridge Parkway KOA in a Motorhome.

Clute Park Campground (W W Clute Memorial Park), Watkins Glen, New York

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here in late September. Site was in middle section next to playground & very close to showers / toilets which was convenient. Utilities were good. The only suggestion I would make for this park is a need for more gravel for each site. The park is really a good base for exploring the wine vineyards & the race track, but a little pricey for what you get. If you are looking for alternate spots, the KOA on the southern edge of town is nice, but the price is absolutely ridiculous. While there, we ate at the Watkins Glen Motor Lodge & I think the menu has not changed in 30 years, nor the decor. Would not have been shocked to see Dean Martin & Sammy Davis Jr. walk in the door with drink & cigarette. Sorry I did not come here in 1966.....this town was probably rockin' then. We camped at Clute Park Campground (W W Clute Memorial Park) in a Motorhome.

Southwoods RV Resort, Byron, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This park is basically a week-end destination for young families & also has quite a few permanent seasonals that keep a clean site. The only amenity here is the swimming pool. The place is clean & well maintained. The only issue is this: if you are an extremely light sleeper & do not like train horns, you might want to rethink this park. The train tracks are about half mile to the south with multiple crossings, & the trains seem to run mostly at night & early morning. If you have satellite tv, ask for sites 24,25,26,28,30,32,34,36,38,or 40. The odd numbered sites have trees at the front of each of those sites & you may not be able to get signal. Site 36 even has an internet antenna at the back, which is a bonus. We camped at Southwoods RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Brockport or Batavia is the closest Walmart. If you are interested in how water locks operate, Lockport is interesting. If you are a biker, Brockport is right on the Erie Canal & has a great biking trail. If you need rv parts, there is an RV supply store in Churchville that used to be a Camping World. If you're looking for a gourmet food store, there is Wegmans in Brockport that's excellent.

Niagara Falls KOA, Niagara Falls, Ontario

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

Good park to stay while visiting Niagra Falls. Sites are all packed gravel, fairly level. Most sites are butt to butt. Water & electric are placed towards the rear of the site, with the sewer placed even further (you will definitely need 2 sections). All the sewer taps are approx. 6-8 inches tall, which may cause an issue in drainage. Access lanes are abit snug, but manageable. Staff was friendly & helpful. We camped at Niagara Falls KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The city bus line picks up directly across the street from the park entrance & you can purchase the falls pass at the office which includes several of the attractions plus a bus pass good for 48 hours (great value). Several good restaurants on Lundy's Lane east of the park. Recommend a day trip by car to Niagra on the Lake...neat village & lots of wineries to try.

Poncho's Pond RV Park, Ludington, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here 6 nights on site 93 next to bathrooms & pool. Extremely well run park, family owned/operated. Staff was evident everywhere you went taking care of things. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. If you make reservations, try to reserve a spot in the 200's or 300's because the sites at the very back or close to a railroad track just over the fence that you may hear from time to time. Other than that, great park! We camped at Poncho's Pond RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Ludington has got to be the cleanest town I have ever visited...could not find one cigarette butt on curbs or sidewalks downtown. The park by Lake Michigan is very nice & the downtown area is vibrant with lots to see & do. The one thing you have to do when you are there is go eat at House of Flavors downtown......great food & terrific ice cream.

Jack Pine Lodge Campground, Manistique, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for 3 weeks, basically for location between Manistique & Munising. The rv park section here is only 3 yrs. old. Previously just depended on cabin rentals along with the lodge. There are 27 back-in sites, all full hook-up. Sites 1 thru 6 & 19 are full h/u with 30/50 amp service; the remainder in that loop (to the left of the bath house) are full h/u with 30 amp only. Sites 20 thru 27 (to the right of the bath house) are all full h/u with 30/50 amp service. All of the utilities worked very well. I was not told about the sites layout when we made reservations in March. If you have a satellite dish on your unit, I strongly suggest that you ask for sites 22, 23 or 24, where you can get a descent shot in the southwest direction. We were in 25 & had no satellite signal because of a rather large tree on the driver side front (my navigator was not amused). When we first arrived, the only possible wifi signal was in the lodge, but by the third week, owner had two antennas erected on the bath house, which greatly improved wifi signal. We have ATT cellphone service & the only thing I can say about ATT here, it greatly sucks! We would occasionally drive to Manistique to make phone calls to fam & friends, etc. Now the "skinny" on the park. You are in Hiawatha National Forest & there be BUGS here (gnats & deer flies). Bring bug spray & if you have a small lightweight patio tent with screening, you will be able to enjoy being outside. I can't really trash this park. I give the owner an A for slowly making improvements. I had real doubts when we first arrived, but it's got real outback style. The lodge was built in 1928 & definitely has style with a fully stocked bar. On Wednesday night, they prepare a Parmesan encrusted filet of local whitefish with baked potato & steamed veggies that's pretty tasty. We camped at Jack Pine Lodge Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Most of the scenic things that you might want to see are all in Munising, such as waterfalls, hiking trails, visits to the Pictured Rocks on Lake Superior. The Lodge has good food & cold beer. If you want a little more upscale choice of food, about 5 miles up M94 on the West side of the road & set back abit is the Boot Lake Bar & Grill that offers pretty good steaks, etc. The sign is really dark & you can miss it easily.

Piney Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA, Dover, Tennessee

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here in June for four nights in the Dogwood Loop because that is the only loop that has 50 amp, full hook-ups. We are in a 42 ft. class A & did not see many large coaches while there. If you are in a class C, trailer or fifth wheel, this park will be more accomodating. We stayed in site #26 & gotta say it needs a lot of leveling help. Some better sites, if you can reserve well ahead of time are #57 thru 64. These are all pretty level & long, but they seem to be very popular with fellow Tennesseeans that know about them. All in all, the park is huge, with lots of trees and water for boats, kayaks, etc. If you have a Golden Age Pass, there is discount. Utilities did work well. We camped at Piney Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Motorhome.

McFarland Park Campground, Florence, Alabama

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for two nights in a "pull-thru". This park is city operated & has a few issues. The entrance off of hwy. 20 is nice and wide and remains easily navigable all the way back to where the rv section is. After passing thru the gate, you will encounter the entrance, which is a very acute 90 degree right turn, followed by an acute 90 degree left turn. We decided to pull just passed the entrance, over to the side & disconnect the tow. We are in a 42 ft. class A and I don't think we would be able to make the tight turns connected. The other issue is the straight 90 degree pull-thrus that are a bit of a challenge to turn in to. If you are a seasoned driver of a class A, you should be able to manage all of the turns, just go slow & take it easy. On the plus side, the utilities worked well and the view of the Tennessee River is pretty cool. Walked over in the evening with beverage & chair on the bank & watched the boat traffic. We camped at McFarland Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Foscue Creek COE, Demopolis, Alabama

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here in a 42 ft. class A in site #38. This back-in was a breeze. The only issue was the very tight circle at the end of the loop when we exited. The site itself was very level & all the utilities worked well. You can see an occasional tug/barge go by on the Tombigbee. There is a Walmart not far on Hwy. 80. If you fish, there are many places to go to on the river as well as on the inlets. We camped at Foscue Creek COE in a Motorhome.

Parker's Landing RV Park, Biloxi, Mississippi

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for a week. A lot of full timers here that keep their sites relatively clean. This park is pretty old; streets need repaving & some of the pads need to be re-concreted. There are some pull-thru sites further back from the entrance, but if you are in a Class A, I wouldn't go there. If you are in a Class A (35 ft.+) make sure they put you up front in the 5 sites that face the street; anywhere else may be a challenge to back in. The park is conveniently located off of I-10 directly behind a fairly large Camping World. Some noise from the interstate, but tolerable. If you like to fish, there is a nice boat launch just around the bend with plenty of parking for trailer/truck. We camped at Parker's Landing RV Park in a Motorhome.

West Glacier KOA, West Glacier, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $68.00
Overall Rating:

One of the nicest KOA parks we have stayed in. I gave it a 10, but there seems to be an electrical issue in sites 209 thru 213. Our surge protector usually read around 204 to 208 volts on both legs of 50 amp. Since there seemed to be little chance of surge, I had to disconnect the surge protector & go straight from line to plug so we could use a/c, etc. We were in the newer east part & I think when this section was constructed, the electrical contractor skimped a bit on gauge of electrical trunk line. It was a little on the hot side while we were there & I think the park really not designed to handle 90+ temps. We camped at West Glacier KOA in a Motorhome.

Park entrance about 10 minute drive, but it will take you awhile to drive the Going to the Sun road up to Logan Pass, which by the way, in the summer, you need to be at Logan Pass by 8 a.m. or you will not get a parking spot. Onsite restaurant is pretty good. Serves good breakfast & dinner.
