Bakersfield River Run RV Park, Bakersfield, California

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Large concrete space with much space between sites. Curb entering site made backing in a little difficult. Convenient to downtown, shopping, and bike trail. Very good wifi. Clean restrooms and very private showers. Only problem is noise from Highway 99 for sites east of the office. We camped at Bakersfield River Run RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Echo Bay Resort (closed), Overton, Nevada

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

This is a pretty desolate spot. Our site overlooked some modular buildings. It was hot and windy; we came here to do some paddling, but that was not possible due to the wind. Marina is still closed, with only the store/check-in and a gasoline (no diesel) station. No TV or Wifi. Restrooms/showers were clean, but shower layout does not lend itself to much privacy. There was a helpful and friendly camp host. Check-in was difficult as their machine would not accept my credit card. Attendant said it happens a lot to people traveling across state lines because of proximity to Las Vegas. So we paid cash and corrected the problem with Visa without a problem. Just weird! We camped at Echo Bay Resort (closed) in a Fifth Wheel.

Ruby's Inn RV Park and Campground, Bryce Canyon, Utah

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is a huge campground with some sites close to facilities and some down the hill and quite a distance from the office. Some of the dirt sites are not well delineated, but plenty of room, if everyone parks the way they should. Good laundry, large store, and excellent restaurant on the grounds. There is no TV reception at the campground, but the staff set up a TV in a conference room at the lodge so that a number of us could watch one of the presidential debates. Most accommodating, I thought. We camped at Ruby's Inn RV Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The Bryce shuttle is convenient and the Rainbow Tour a good overview of the park. It is worth the hike down into the formations to get a complete experience of the place. Us old timers just had to take a lot of rest stops on the climb back up to the rim. Campground is close to Kodachrome Basin State Park also, and it is worth the trip.

Canyons of Escalante RV Park, Escalante, Utah

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

The sites are very close together and pretty short. It was difficult parking our TV without partially blocking our neighbors. Wifi was good. We experienced a couple of low power situations where our EMS shut down to prevent problems. Staff person blamed the problem on the local power source. Other than that, the staff was friendly and helpful regarding the area and town facilities. We camped at Canyons of Escalante RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Most sights in Escalante National Monument are a long way from town on a washboard gravel road. Escalante Petrified Forest State Park has a nice trail for hiking.

Thousand Lakes RV Park, Torrey, Utah

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

We tried to get reservations a few days prior to our expected arrival, but they were booked up except for dry camping in "the field". Since we expected to arrive late in the afternoon, we took it. It turned out they were booked because of large caravans of foreign tourists; there were rows of Cruise America RV's. Worked out fine for us. Staff was cordial and efficient. Gift shop is extensive; did not try their meal at the pavillion. Nice setting, but the weather can get wild; we were rock'n & roll'n most of the first night! We camped at Thousand Lakes RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Montpelier Creek KOA, Montpelier, Idaho

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

Campground is convenient to town, yet is a quiet location and nice setting (short trail by the creek is a delight). Staff was friendly and helpful and seemed to assign sites so that we were not all right next to each other. One of the nicer KOA's we've stayed at. We camped at Montpelier Creek KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Boise Riverside RV Park, Boise, Idaho

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

All staff was friendly and most helpful. Office staff provided maps and information on local attractions. We stayed in a W&E back-in site next to the river trail, as that was all they had available during our 5 day stay. Those sites are very close together, although you could hang out with some privacy at the rear of your rig, facing the trail and in the shade. It seemed like the pull-through sites are saved for those staying at least a week. The best feature for us was that it was right on the Boise River Trail, allowing us to ride our bikes to downtown (10 miles round trip). Very nice trail. We camped at Boise Riverside RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Crown Villa RV Resort, Bend, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $75.00
Overall Rating:

Because of the steep price for sites, we expected this park to be on the snooty side; but it turned out that everyone was super friendly and the park welcomed all types of RV's. We had a pickup camper on one side and a 40 ft. coach on the other. Sites are spacious, level, shaded, and well kept. Facilities are top notch, staff is efficient and friendly, and you can get a free newspaper each day if you want. They picked-up, filled, and delivered my empty propane cylinder right to our site and the price was less than at any of the gas stations in town. Overall, a very pleasant experience. We camped at Crown Villa RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Bushay Recreation Area, Ukiah, California

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Many campsites available during the week, but I think they fill up on weekends. Sites are level and most are fairly long & wide, but many have the table and fire-pit on the side opposite the door to your trailer. Contract janitorial service did minimal cleaning of restroom; did not use showers. Can get very hot during the summer. Access to lake from this campground & side of the lake is difficult, except from Deer Camp group site. We were able to launch kayaks into the river inlet arm of the lake, but it was a challenge. Paddling up the river inlet arm was wonderful, with lots of wildlife. We camped at Bushay Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.
