About Patricia Sterkowitz

We full-timed in our 5th wheel for a few years. Have settled down with a home in Texas now so have gone back to a travel trailer. Started out with a 27' and recently upgraded to a 31'.

High Plains Camping, Oakley, Kansas

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here two nights. Found the owners to be friendly and helpful. Laundry facilities had 4 washers and 7 dryers. Easy access from I-70. At this time of year, it seems the park attracts mostly overnight campers. The office has a huge selection of DVD's that are free to watch if you are a camper.

Take heed of the notice given by the owners to watch out for the sticky, thorny burrs on the ground. I didn't realize that they would stick to my Crocs and ended up with them all over the floor in our unit.

The park is totally non-smoking. If you are a smoker you can only smoke in your unit. We don't smoke but thought it worth mentioning. We will definitely come back if we are passing by. We camped at High Plains Camping in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Dined at Cap'n Jacks Pub on first night as the restaurant is open Thursday through Monday evenings. Great Crab Cakes and Escargot. Their burgers looked pretty awesome but didn't try.

Stallbaumer RV Park and Campground, Seneca, Kansas

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Campground is right off of route 36 in Seneca behind a hotel. It faces a nice pond and golf course. The campground is very clean and nice looking. Sights are level and easy to get into and out of. WiFi is an additional $2 fee and is pretty fast. The campground no longer has cable TV as advertised. I believe the owner said they are working on another option. There's a dollar general right there where you can buy limited groceries. Across the street is a ShopKo (?) with limited groceries and other household items. We stayed one night. We camped at Stallbaumer RV Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Try to park nearer to the middle of the park as the wifi signal was not as good as it could have been. We were on one of the farthest west sites.

Adventureland Campground, Altoona, Iowa

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Enjoyed our stay here. Friends of ours are workampers at Adventureland and it was nice visiting with them for one night. Ate dinner at Spectators Sports Bar. Lots of tv screens, good drinks and food. Did not have time in our schedule to visit the amusement park. Hope to return next year and visit the park. We camped at Adventureland Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Treetops RV Resort, Arlington, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

We love this campground for the location, atmosphere, cleanliness, pool, quietness, just about everything. At the time we were there there was no cable TV due to the park changing suppliers but that was a minor issue for us. Spent an afternoon at the pool and we were the only guests there. It was like the pool was our own and it had a great shaded area with tables and chairs. Internet service was great, never had any problems connecting with quick response time. We camped at Treetops RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There's a large shopping mall just off Cooper and I-20. There are plenty of diesel gas stations in the area, we liked 2 over on Bowen just north of I-20. There are plenty of restaurants in the area along with all kinds of shopping. A new IKEA store will be opening soon not far from the campground.

Colorado River RV Park, Bastrop, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

In transit so stayed only one night. Nice level site, we did not need to disconnect our tow vehicle. Cash or check for payment, credit cards accepted for an additional charge. We were happy with our campsite and the campground in general. Will definitely come back some time in the future. Easy access from 77. My rating is based on my own bias of looking for easy access with a level site. We camped at Colorado River RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

South Forty RV Park, Giddings, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Large sites, very quiet park. Bathrooms and other facilities were very clean. Pool looked well taken care of but did not get a chance to use it. The park was convenient to Giddings which was important to us because we traded in our trailer for a larger, new one, purchased at Funtown RV. It appears that there are a number of sites occupied by oil workers, etc., which only adds to the peace and quiet of the park. We would definitely come back to stay here in the future. We camped at South Forty RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

If you are picking up a new rv in Giddings, this is the place to stay. It's within 6 miles. I suggest making a reservation as the day we were leaving the park was full for the weekend.

Canal COE, Grand Rivers, Kentucky

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for 3 nights. Site 46 was a back-in. It was easy to back our 40 footer in because the road was semi-circular and the trees were not as close to each other as on other sites. Our site was level whereas we noticed that there were a number of sites on our loop that we would have never been able to get into, either because of the trees or because the site sloped up from the road. Campground is really quite beautiful and we would definitely come back again and try very hard to get site 46 again. We camped at Canal COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The is the Land Between the Lakes and there's not enough room here to list all the things to do. And it was an easy detour off of I-24 with good access roads into the park.

Comlara Park Campground, Hudson, Illinois

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Just needed a campsite for one night so this was a pretty good choice for our 40' fifth wheel. Site was a long pull thru that was fairly level. Easy access to I-39 and not much noise from the highway. Electric was 50 amp, no water at the campsites but there was a spigot nearby. Very pretty campground with some fall colors. We camped at Comlara Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
