Destiny Dallas RV Resort, Denton, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We are familiar with Destiny and stay with them when in the Dallas/Denton/Cornith area. The friendly customer service started even before we arrived as I left a date off of our stay and had to make back-to-back reservations. They called me a day later to amend and combine them into one. Check-in was smooth and our pull-thru site required just a little leveling for our 30' Class A coach. We do not tow. A previous camper had spilled some sticky liquid on the picnic table which had attracted a lot of ants. The camp service staff was on the scene minutes after this was reported and took appropriate action. Problem solved. The restrooms were a stone's throw away from any site. The park was clean and well maintained. There is a large area for your dog to run and play. The pool was clean and the spa relaxing. They have propane for portable and on-board re-filling. There are plenty of "doggie" waste cans if you are walking the park. If you need to clean your rig, there is an RV (and regular) wash rack on site. We camped at Destiny Dallas RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tucumcari KOA, Tucumcari, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is our 3rd overnight at this KOA. We were greeted just as we pulled into the CG. A quick check-in and we were guided to our site. Our host made sure we were in the best position to take advantage of the shade and picnic table. He stayed to make sure that we were familiar with the hook-ups. There were sufficient facilities to service the 88 campsites if full. Even with a near capacity park, the evening was quiet. There is a nice cafe on-site for ordering an evening meal delivered to your site or for breakfast in the cafe. The camp store had many curiosities and had camping essentials if needed.

For the record, it seems some campers are really not familiar with the desert environment or unique habitat. Grasses have to be left to grow and form seeds to replenish the landscape. Thus, they are not "mowed" (until they seed) as in other parts of the country where grass grows differently. Burrs are also part of the flora that keeps dirt where it belongs. Just make sure you check your dog's pads after a walk. Snakes are a part of the southwest. Don't camp here if you think they won't join you. We camped at Tucumcari KOA in a Motorhome.

Ole Towne Cotton Gin RV Park, Quanah, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The advanced reservation made check-in smooth. Reserve pull-throughs early. They filled up. Just a note, the registration parking is a nice loop. Park in the loop. That way when you get your site, you won't have to go around the park or back-up to access your site. There was evidence of a few wet days in ruts created by RV and vehicle tires just for reference. The full hook-up site utilities were all functional. The Park was well groomed despite the dry conditions. The pool was cleaned by 1 pm and was a nice, relaxing amenity. Since we arrived on Sunday, we did not meet the staff. The Gin nor the office/gift shop were open. Looking through the window, both would have been fun to visit. Bugs were not an issue, but the burrs in the grass posed a challenge for the dog. Just make sure you check their pads after a walk! We camped at Ole Towne Cotton Gin RV Park in a Motorhome.

Poverty Point Reservoir State Park, Delhi, Louisiana

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We found Poverty Point easily about 7 miles off our route. The entire park was amazing for the cleanliness and upkeep. The operators obviously take great pride in the CG. There is a boat ramp, fishing pier and visitor center. On the far side of the lake, there are cabins for rent. If you like to hike, there are plenty of places to explore. Stay alert for bears as the posted signs warn. We would definitely stay here again and explore the area without the rain. We camped at Poverty Point Reservoir State Park in a Motorhome.

Twin Lakes Camp Resort, Defuniak Springs, Florida

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

Twin Lakes was booked online. We found the campground to be as represented. The full hook-ups were ambidextrous! What a great concept. This allowed you to pull in or back in to maximize your lake view. There was a boat launch and fishing pier. The weather did not cooperate, so we had no chance to explore. Looks like there are changes coming, which could only add to the ambiance. We would camp here again on an overnight. We camped at Twin Lakes Camp Resort in a Motorhome.

Rocky's Convenience Store & Campground, Perry, Florida

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Rocky's has a great staff, probably the cleanest and most spacious showers and bath house we have seen at a campground and a unique location right next to Rocky's Convenience Store. US 98 from Blountsville or out of Perry is a great drive along tree lined highway. In fact, we will take this route to avoid the traffic around Tallahassee, FL in the future. The sites are grass and have FHU with 30-50 amp electric. This is a popular spot with hunters during the season and has a few long-term campers on site. It is a very quiet campground, offers free and strong wi-fi and is smoke-free in the amenities. There is plenty of room to walk the dog. The standing water had added a few bugs to the camp area, but this was due to hurricane Hermine that had gone through a few days earlier. That being said, it is coastal Florida and in the woods, so bring your mosquito repellent! We stayed here in a 28 foot Class A with no tow. We would stay here again when passing through. We camped at Rocky's Convenience Store & Campground in a Motorhome.

Shady Acres Campground, Mobile, Alabama

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Access to Shady Acres is very easy off I-10 west of the city of Mobile. You will be surprised when you drive through a quite residential area and find Shady Acres right there in the middle! There are a lot of old wood trees - thus Shady Acres - providing the most relief from the hot summer days on our trip. The owner (since 1952) met us at the office, check-in was speedy and we had a site right next to the shower house. Our site was gravel and level with FHU. short-term/overnight campers get the great sites right down the middle of the park for pull-troughs. There was plenty of room for much bigger rigs that were towing to comfortably set up. The interior roads were easy to navigate. The grounds were clean as were the shower house. There is trail access to the river. The family houses are close to the river access, but they welcome you to come and hang out. Several sites had long-term campers. They were helpful with local restaurants and points of interest. We stayed on site 43-A which is the only heads up to provide. 3 times over the course of our stay, we lost power. Each time I reset the surge protector and we were back in business. I finally realized the 30-amp receptacle at 43-A was old and on it's last leg. The surge protector would work its way out of the socket and cause the protector to trip. I was pushing it back in the first 2 times thinking I had pulled it out when I reset the protector. We camped at Shady Acres Campground in a Motorhome.

Whispering Meadow RV Park, Westlake, Louisiana

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Whispering Meadow was very easy to access from I-10, just a 10 minute drive off the exit through a nice business, dining and residential area. We contacted our host at the office just inside the main gate. The overnight/short-term sites are right up front. Quite a bit of the park is long-term, but you would never know it compared to other RV parks. The sites were level concrete with a nice lawn table and chair. All utilities were close at hand and working properly. Trash is picked up at your site daily. The grounds, showers and laundry were immaculate. There are 10 acres for walking the dog and a small dog park for off-leash time. The owners are on site 24/7 and give you a number to call for assistance. We camped here in a 28 foot Class A motor home. We do not tow, but there was plenty of space for a tow vehicle. We camped at Whispering Meadow RV Park in a Motorhome.

Hickory Creek COE, Lewisville, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

We camped her in a 28 foot Class A , no tow vehicle. The Site was back-in, gravel and absolutely level! It had a picnic table and concrete apron to step out on. The power held good amps and voltage and water pressure was great. There was access to the boat ramp and many areas to walk in. That was the upside. Things to be aware of. The staff member at the entry gate provided no map, just "follow the signs". There was no mention of the bath house hot water being "under repair" or that the on-site sewer was apparently overwhelmed by recent rain or something else. Yes, it blew out in the first 5 seconds of the start of the dump. Fortunately, it went south and I was standing north!. And, if you are leaving the campground, be back by 11 pm, or maybe 10 pm, as when the gate closes, you are walking to your campsite - 1.5 miles inside??? We camped at Hickory Creek COE in a Motorhome.

Oasis RV Resort, Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Campground has very easy access from I-40, with services at the exit. The staff was very friendly and check-in was a breeze. The roads are all paved. The sites are nearly level concrete. The grounds are immaculate. The utilities for the FHU are easy to access. The WiFi is strong at site 110. The pool was closed for the season, but the adult hot tub was available. However, it was over 90 degrees, so we didn't partake! The bath houses featured individual rooms with a stool and shower. They were exceptionally clean. Several curiosities in the office/market/gift shop, including free cookies!

Only minus, and it had nothing to do with the facility that it could help was the odor from the stock feeding yard up the road. When the wind changed or they cleaned the stalls, the manure odor was very strong. Fortunately, it only lasted an hour or so. We camped at Oasis RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Santa Fe Skies RV Park, Santa Fe, New Mexico

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

The access from I-25 is very easy. We were greeted by one of the owners at the office and checked in quickly. Our pull through was easy to get into, nearly level and all amenities were up to speed. We had a great view of the mountains to the west. The park is always one of the cleanest venues we visit and this visit was no different. The bath house is spacious, VERY clean, good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Grounds are free of trash and pet droppings. This a very important because no leashes are required for your dog! The trail around the property is is great shape. Beware however, the rabbits are everywhere and if your dog is a chaser a leash may be in order. Be sure and allow enough time to experience all the art displayed around the grounds and the restored machinery that helped make the campground possible. Finally, we love the fact that the wild flowers are allowed to grow and not mowed down. We camped at Santa Fe Skies RV Park in a Motorhome.

Emerald Coast RV Beach Resort, Panama City Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $80.00
Overall Rating:

Emerald has a large "resident" camping population, but the sites available to short stay are incredible. The vast majority of sites for short stay are pull-through. The park hosts are very helpful. They have trash pick-up to avoid dumpsters. There is no noise despite being in the middle of PCB. The park and all amenities are immaculate. There is a mixture of housing that gives the park an eclectic feel. We camped at Emerald Coast RV Beach Resort in a Motorhome.

For the short stay, this is in the pricey category as we did not have the time to enjoy the amenities. Wouldn't suggest paying for the "big rig" sites around the pond. You get the same ambiance on any site. The premium sites come with picnic table and grille. Security is excellent.

Destiny Dallas RV Resort, Denton, Texas

Overall Rating:

This was our second stay at Destiny - on the same site! the park is literally right off I-35E, easy to access. Check-in was smooth. There is a large area to exercise your dog off leash. The pool and hot tub were clean and offered great relaxation after a long day's drive. Call ahead, they have many seasonal campers and sites go quickly. Use the exit BEFORE the one your GPS gives you if you have a large rig and tow. The exit right in front of the park entrance can get tricky, especially with all the construction. The campground is starting to show age and could use a sprucing-up. If you are easily offended by lectures on curbing your dog, this is NOT the place to stay.
