Monte Verde RV Camp, Angel Fire, New Mexico

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Monte Verde is "eclecticly" special. The young owners are working hard to serve both extended and overnight campers. The access to Angel Fire amenities makes Monte Verde a good choice. You can throw some horse shoes in the recreation area or camp "outback" in a pull-thru with lots of sun. Just a heads-up, the showers are very nice, but you need quarters for up to a 14-minute shower. We camped at Monte Verde RV Camp in a Motorhome.

Corral Drive-In RV Park, Guymon, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The most unique campground we have ever visited! The bath house is better than some motels/hotels we have stayed at. Good camp store. Very level sites. And, during the summer weekends, if you like a good drive-in movie, upgrade to a site with a good view of the giant on-site screen. Settle in with some delicious food from the diner. Then as the sun goes down, grab some fresh popcorn, tune-in on your personal radio, i-Pod or smart phone and enjoy the show. We camped at Corral Drive-In RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tall Chief Cove COE, Skiatook, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very family friendly COE that is popular with folks from around the area. The sites are unique in that you may have up to 3 sites off one access for large groups to camp together. Boat ramp, playground and some very nice shaded sites across from the water and some with no shade right on the water. The loop we were on was quiet. However, the bathhouse was a concrete bunker with NO ventilation. While it was acceptably clean, at 96 degrees it was like an oven. Basically not usable.

Don't be fooled by your GPS. It will tell you you have arrive 2.5 miles from the actual entrance because the address is the administrative offices for the COE. We camped at Tall Chief Cove COE in a Motorhome.

Hot Springs National Park KOA, Hot Springs, Arkansas

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Changed to this KOA on the fly based on good reviews. We were not disappointed. Very personable staff, sites were level, clean and had the best water, electric and sewer set-up of any place we have ever camped. You need to see it to believe it. Free shuttle to and from Hot Springs. Good camp store and the free water from the on-site spring is delicious. We camped at Hot Springs National Park KOA in a Motorhome.

Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park, Vicksburg, Mississippi

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed at Ameristar Vicksburg 2 prior times. Easy access off the Interstate, great restaurant a short walk or casino shuttle away. Access to the American Civil War National Park. Staff is friendly, pool clean and all amenities always work. Sites are concrete and nearly level. No road noise and the railroad tracks that run behind the park are below the park and well buffered. We camped at Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park in a Motorhome.

Suwannee River Rendezvous, Mayo, Florida

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

First visit in a 30 ft Class-A motorhome. Plenty of pull-through and back-in sites. Very nice pool, laundry facilities, small workout room and individual shower/toilet "suites". They even provide a dog washing station! This is definitely a "destination" CG, off the beaten path if you will, but well worth it. The "hidden" part of the CG are the amenities: Momma's Kitchen, lodge, cabins, a 72 degree year-round spring and the Suwannee River canoe trips! The owners have done a remarkable job of rescuing the CG and personal touches are all around in the construction and efficiency. The CG gives great discounts all week long. We will camp here again for sure. We camped at Suwannee River Rendezvous in a Motorhome.

Pine Mountain RV Resort, Pine Mountain, Georgia

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

First visit in Class A 30 foot MH. There are two sections to this CG, the old and the new. The old features very narrow sites, some gravel, some concrete with lots of trees. Full hook-ups. The new section is growing its trees, all concrete pads and full hook-ups. There is a great swimming pool/hot tub facility. There is a playground for the kids. Reserved site 37 in the "old" section online. Upon arrival, we picked up our after hour package and drove to the site. In all fairness, the CG had seen a lot of rain this spring and a hard downpour just before we arrived. The site had newly delivered gravel and 6 to 8 inches worth. The surrounding ground was muddy, red Georgia clay. We made one attempt to enter the site and evaluate the set-up. The motorhome started to sink in the gravel and if the site was ever level, it wasn't anymore! We managed to get out without sinking any further which was a combo of mud covered by a lot of gravel that had never (or couldn't be) compacted. We availed ourselves to one of the sites in the "new" side listed for late, no reservation campers. The really disgusting part of the "service" aspect is this. We stopped at the office when leaving to check-out. When we explained the problem on site 37 and our move to the open 129, there was no apology for the conditions or failure to move us to an uncompromised site, just an admonishment for the "40" something lady behind the counter that the "new" side cost more. That really would not have been an issue, but it was the attitude that made it bad. We would stay here again, but would check in advance about conditions on the site we reserved and perhaps just go with the "new" side. We camped at Pine Mountain RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Monte Sano State Park, Huntsville, Alabama

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Our first stay at Monte Santo in a 30ft Class A. The staff was friendly and accommodating. When a change of plans allowed for an extra night, they carefully explained we would have to move across the street as the space was rented for the last night. No problem. They were fascinated that I wasn't upset. They took care of all the paperwork for both sites in advance! The facilities were much better than other State Parks we have stayed in. Plenty of hot water and pressure. Always clean. The park also features a scenic overlook, guided hikes, plenty of hiking trails, the North Alabama Japanese Garden, a huge playground near the lodge as well as smaller ones in the campground. This campground featured "Y" side-by-side campsites which would put you very close to someone you didn't know or would be great for a two-family outing. Just be aware. We experienced a tire issue while sitting still in the campground. The repair service arrived on time and got down to one last detail, but lacked a 9/16 socket. Yep, the camp host had one and gladly loaned it! We camped at Monte Sano State Park in a Motorhome.

Twin Lakes Camp Resort, Defuniak Springs, Florida

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

Third visit to Twin Lakes Camp Resort. Nothing has changed in any of the visits. This is a really nice campground with level pads, all utilities are A+. The showers/toilets are individual and decorated better than my house! A unique feature for Twin Lakes is that each site can be used for pull-in or back in with utilities appropriately located for both! Plenty of lake to fish, canoe or float. Lots of yard games for the kids and adults. A great little lodge has seating, AC, pool table and books. The camp store is well appointed. Make sure and allow time to browse the local inventory. Dogs are welcome on a leash. Just beware there is more "No Pet" grass area than that available for dogs. Each site has a fire ring and the camp provides firewood. Maybe they could remind those that insist on a fire, not to try and burn wet wood! It only smokes and the stink was terrible. We didn't get any outside time in the evening because of this. We camped at Twin Lakes Camp Resort in a Motorhome.

Destiny Dallas RV Resort, Denton, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We are familiar with Destiny and stay with them when in the Dallas/Denton/Cornith area. The friendly customer service started even before we arrived as I left a date off of our stay and had to make back-to-back reservations. They called me a day later to amend and combine them into one. Check-in was smooth and our pull-thru site required just a little leveling for our 30' Class A coach. We do not tow. A previous camper had spilled some sticky liquid on the picnic table which had attracted a lot of ants. The camp service staff was on the scene minutes after this was reported and took appropriate action. Problem solved. The restrooms were a stone's throw away from any site. The park was clean and well maintained. There is a large area for your dog to run and play. The pool was clean and the spa relaxing. They have propane for portable and on-board re-filling. There are plenty of "doggie" waste cans if you are walking the park. If you need to clean your rig, there is an RV (and regular) wash rack on site. We camped at Destiny Dallas RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tucumcari KOA, Tucumcari, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is our 3rd overnight at this KOA. We were greeted just as we pulled into the CG. A quick check-in and we were guided to our site. Our host made sure we were in the best position to take advantage of the shade and picnic table. He stayed to make sure that we were familiar with the hook-ups. There were sufficient facilities to service the 88 campsites if full. Even with a near capacity park, the evening was quiet. There is a nice cafe on-site for ordering an evening meal delivered to your site or for breakfast in the cafe. The camp store had many curiosities and had camping essentials if needed.

For the record, it seems some campers are really not familiar with the desert environment or unique habitat. Grasses have to be left to grow and form seeds to replenish the landscape. Thus, they are not "mowed" (until they seed) as in other parts of the country where grass grows differently. Burrs are also part of the flora that keeps dirt where it belongs. Just make sure you check your dog's pads after a walk. Snakes are a part of the southwest. Don't camp here if you think they won't join you. We camped at Tucumcari KOA in a Motorhome.

Ole Towne Cotton Gin RV Park, Quanah, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The advanced reservation made check-in smooth. Reserve pull-throughs early. They filled up. Just a note, the registration parking is a nice loop. Park in the loop. That way when you get your site, you won't have to go around the park or back-up to access your site. There was evidence of a few wet days in ruts created by RV and vehicle tires just for reference. The full hook-up site utilities were all functional. The Park was well groomed despite the dry conditions. The pool was cleaned by 1 pm and was a nice, relaxing amenity. Since we arrived on Sunday, we did not meet the staff. The Gin nor the office/gift shop were open. Looking through the window, both would have been fun to visit. Bugs were not an issue, but the burrs in the grass posed a challenge for the dog. Just make sure you check their pads after a walk! We camped at Ole Towne Cotton Gin RV Park in a Motorhome.

We found Poverty Point easily about 7 miles off our route. The entire park was amazing for the cleanliness and upkeep. The operators obviously take great pride in the CG. There is a boat ramp, fishing pier and visitor center. On the far side of the lake, there are cabins for rent. If you like to hike, there are plenty of places to explore. Stay alert for bears as the posted signs warn. We would definitely stay here again and explore the area without the rain. We camped at Poverty Point Reservoir State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Twin Lakes was booked online. We found the campground to be as represented. The full hook-ups were ambidextrous! What a great concept. This allowed you to pull in or back in to maximize your lake view. There was a boat launch and fishing pier. The weather did not cooperate, so we had no chance to explore. Looks like there are changes coming, which could only add to the ambiance. We would camp here again on an overnight. We camped at Twin Lakes Camp Resort in a Motorhome.

Rocky's Convenience Store & Campground, Perry, Florida

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Rocky's has a great staff, probably the cleanest and most spacious showers and bath house we have seen at a campground and a unique location right next to Rocky's Convenience Store. US 98 from Blountsville or out of Perry is a great drive along tree lined highway. In fact, we will take this route to avoid the traffic around Tallahassee, FL in the future. The sites are grass and have FHU with 30-50 amp electric. This is a popular spot with hunters during the season and has a few long-term campers on site. It is a very quiet campground, offers free and strong wi-fi and is smoke-free in the amenities. There is plenty of room to walk the dog. The standing water had added a few bugs to the camp area, but this was due to hurricane Hermine that had gone through a few days earlier. That being said, it is coastal Florida and in the woods, so bring your mosquito repellent! We stayed here in a 28 foot Class A with no tow. We would stay here again when passing through. We camped at Rocky's Convenience Store & Campground in a Motorhome.
