Ponderosa RV Resort, Lotus, California

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $5.00
Overall Rating:

As 1000Trails members, we just pay the upgrade fee to park along the river. Let's face it, this is a run down park and the potholed and crumbling roads have gotten worse over the 4 years we've visited.

So why stay? It's the river. The whitewater rushing buy makes a wonderful background noise and the view up the grassy slopes is beautiful, especially at sunset.

Most of the staff is friendly, as are the fulltimers.

Some of the turns are a bit tight, especially the right turn you need to make to go to the river front sites. But there are plenty of 40' motorhomes like ours and big 5th wheels that make it work. We camped at Ponderosa RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Bring your own supplies as the local variety stores have limited and expensive choices.

Cafe Majhaic for fine dining- Make reservations!

Dave Moore Park is a nice place to go for 1-2 mile stroll with the dogs or kids.

Gold Hill Winery - Pack a picnic lunch, buy a nice wine from them, and sit out on their deck that overlooks the vineyard and beyond.

Far Horizons 49er Village RV Resort, Plymouth, California

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

This is our go-to park for Amador County wine tasting. The park is tree-lined and well-maintained. Some sites are a little tough to get into due to the trees, but it's worth the effort. We camped at Far Horizons 49er Village RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Wine tasting! Amador has quite a number of great and undervalued wineries. Taste restaurant is awesome. As is oicking up a sandwich at the Vintage Market and enjoying it later in a winery's picnic area.

The 49er card is worth the fee as it pays for itself with a free night within a week of your birthday and you get free night after so many visits. The County Fairgrounds are right next door and they typically open up a private gate from the park so that you can go to the events without driving.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Tower Park, Lodi, California

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

After reading all the negative reviews, we were somewhat hesitant about booking a stay, here. We're happy we did!

The park is beautiful with mostly grassy, tree-covered sites. We had a friendly greeting upon arrival. When we saw some sites without trees, the front desk people happily moved us so that we could get a little more of the winter sun.

The there's a good sized dog park, a grassy field, kids playground, and outdoor pools (closed for winter).

The water stopped working our 3rd day there. By the time I made it to the office, they were already working on the repair and had begun hand-delivering free cases of water to every site.

Other signs of good management were new rail fencing around the jumping cushion, and new sewer connections going into the east side of the park.

The pull-thru site we were in was designed to allow travel buddies to have their doors facing each other. But the sites were so long, that you could also pull all the way forward to get more privacy.

We'll be back! We camped at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Tower Park in a Motorhome.

Indian Waters RV Resort & Cottages, Indio, California

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

This park is clean with good spacing between the sites. It's well maintained and they're always working at keeping it that way. It's our goto place when we need a break from winter. Their pricing structure is odd as there are only minor pad differences between the sites.

There are multiple dog parks onsite. And a walk around the perimeter will usually provide our pups with a good stretch.

This time, there was a brusque former drill sergeant at the desk. Definitely gave off a vibe of not happy that she was there, we were there, or...? But past visits we've had much friendlier service.

Outdoor amenities are limited to paddleboard courts and a pool. Since there's not a lot for kids to do, there are mostly couples, here -- which suits us fine. We camped at Indian Waters RV Resort & Cottages in a Motorhome.

Clio's Rivers Edge RV Park, Clio, California

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Very clean and well-maintained park. Greeters take you to your site and guide you in. If they can, they'll pull you through another site to get to yours. We stayed in the 50amp section, which had reasonably wide, tree lined sites which were covered with pea gravel. Workers came in and raked sites and cleaned tables as soon as people depart. There's not much in the way of amenities beyond a bocce ball court & horseshoes. But, that's also probably why it was so peaceful at night. Sites are away from the road, unlike two other parks we drove through in nearby Graeagle. Day hikes around regional lakes are just a short drive away. We camped at Clio's Rivers Edge RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

You have to visit the local winery in Graeagle. Trevor, the host, is an entertainer!

We have an elderly dog who can swim, but can't hike anymore. If you go to Gold Lake and take the first entrance labeled Pack Animals, you'll find a small ramp (row boat sized) and grassy areas along the water to picnic.
