New Lisbon Family Campground, Straughn, Indiana

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Just stopped here for a quick overnight on our way back home. Lots of seasonals here, but wasn't populated on a cold Monday night. We got escorted back to our pull through, a nice bonus.Place seems decent. We camped at New Lisbon Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Lake Wister State Park, Wister, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Hidden gem, right on the lake with many sites with great views. Two different loops, we stayed in the Victor area. Only negative were the shower houses, which need updating. We camped at Lake Wister State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here to check out the Poteau Balloon festival. Turns out there was a festival at Robbers Cave SP too, about 35 miles away. Poteau is a neat town, with groceries, some chain stores, and some good local eateries and a good butcher shop and donut shop.

Guadalupe River State Park (GRSP), Spring Branch, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We were here for 3 nights and had a blast. Great hiking trails, and swimming/floating in the river. Some of the sites may be a bit far from the shower house. We camped at Guadalupe River State Park (GRSP) in a Travel Trailer.

We didn't really venture out too far here, with the exception of groceries at an HEB nearby. There was plenty for us to do in the park, and I'd go back again. New Braunfels and San Antonio are close.

Katy Lake RV Resort, Katy, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Not my first choice of a campground, but this place is very clean and secure. We had reservations elsewhere, but Hurricane Harvey forced a change of plans. Cable TV, a nice pool, shower house, and club house as well. Staff was friendly. We camped at Katy Lake RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Katy is basically a large suburb of Houston, so lots of traffic and stores all around. The park itself sits far back from the main road, so it's quiet. We'd go back there again, we have family nearby.

Caddo Lake State Park, Karnack, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This place is a real gem. Quiet and dark at night, almost spooky. The lake is beautiful. We only stayed 2 nights, but I'd go back again for sure. The shower house was torn down, and they are building a new one, so we showered in the camper. Hiking trails were ok. We camped at Caddo Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Town of Jefferson is about 7 miles away, a neat place with a good smokehouse, grocery store and other shopping (check out the General Store) . Town of Uncertain is at the end of the lake, has marinas and a few restaurants. The camp hosts here are great.

Daisy State Park, Kirby, Arkansas

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in the B loop, but checked out all the sites in our 4 day stay. B loop seemed to have larger sites. A loop looks like big rigs wouldn't fit in too many sites. The CG is very clean and quiet, beautiful views of Lake Greeson. We camped at Daisy State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Smoky Bear Campground, Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $47.00

Tips for other Campers:

The campground owners have a paper to give you (on arrival) giving you area suggestions such as their favorite hikes, drives, and restaurants. We used this info and it was spot on. We booked a 3 night stay, and if we visit the area again I'd stay here for sure. There's a large grocery store towards town, but close to their CG are small shops and BBQ joints. Golf course about 3 miles away, Max Patch about an hour away.

Indian Boundary Campground, Tellico Plains, Tennessee

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This CG is among the best we've ever stayed. Camp hosts were very helpful, the shower houses were spotless. We stayed in B loop, our site was spacious. Added bonus was the swimming beach, very scenic and clean. I want to return. We camped at Indian Boundary Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Geneva State Park, Geneva, Ohio

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We've never camped here before, even though it's only about an hour away from our house. Geneva-On-the-Lake is a cool throwback in time town. We stayed in the northern loop, which has less shade than the southern loop. Campsites are fairly spaced out, so you aren't on top of your neighbors. Sites are clean. Only negative to me is there is only one shower house that both loops share. With 100 campsites, that's not enough. Beach is close, about a half mile hike or bike ride. Bike trail leads you into town, a big plus. Nice getaway in Ashtabula County. We camped at Geneva State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Wanderlust RV Park, Eureka Springs, Arkansas

Overall Rating:

Very clean, maybe the cleanest shower house I've ever been in. The owners work hard here to keep it nice. Easy travel into town from here. Only negative was no fire ring, you had to rent it for your stay. I'd return here if back in the area. We camped at Wanderlust RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very scenic place with some nice hiking trails. Swimming, canoeing also. Our shower house wasn't the cleanest, but the water controls worked fine. The B loops are very small, but adequate...just be patient backing in. We camped at Devil's Den State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We were only here for 2 nights, so we didn't fully explore the park. The section we were in wasn't crowded, so it was very quiet. Groceries are close, and a few eateries if you need them. Golf course and marina right there, so I imagine it gets busy in the summer- still should be a great place to be even if it's crowded.

Great scenery here. Star gazing & hiking are plenty. We were here off season, so plenty of sites were available.

Showerhouse was very clean. Sites are large, spaced apart well.

I'm happy we stayed in the Mesquite area, when we checked out the other loops, it looked like the sites were closer together. I'd love to get back there again someday. We camped at Palo Duro Canyon State Park in a Travel Trailer.
