Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake, Orlando, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Nice find in theme park central. Quiet park less than 3 miles to Universal Studios, the reason for our visit. RV park is well separated from activities providing privacy and quiet. Roughly 1/2 the sites are fhu, rest are electric and water. Dump station at end of rv loop. Sites can be challenging to enter, roads are narrow with many trees. Sites are concrete pads, flat but not level, many rigs parked with wheels off the ground. Many big rigs in park prove that it can be done. No wifi but most sites were satellite friendly. Clean bathrooms with showers and good laundry room, washers $1.25, dryers $1. Sadly, an abundance of cigarette butt litter. Given the price and the solitude, we will definitely stay again when in the area. We camped at Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake in a Fifth Wheel.

Currahee RV Park, Toccoa, Georgia

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Small park with mostly pull-thru sites for short timers. Long term residents are in a separate back-in section. Few full hook up sites but owners are undergoing improvements (adding sewer to more sites and adding another row of full hook up sites). Excellent wifi and we were able to position our rig to receive satellite. Sites are dirt covered with pine straw. Park is on a lovely creek with several small decks, and is fairly quiet. Easy access off road. We will return next month on our return north. We camped at Currahee RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Thousand Trails / Carolina Landing, Fair Play, South Carolina

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Rate based on monthly stay. For stays of 30 days or longer, a background check is required for which you pay $25. Wifi only available in the office/lounge area and not very strong. Great staff, friendly residents (most are long-term). Satellite friendly. All sites are very uneven, some rigs were parked w/ a wheel off the ground. Challenging to level our rig. Fairly quiet, no road noise. Would not stay again. We camped at Thousand Trails / Carolina Landing in a Fifth Wheel.

Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, Lake Buena Vista, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $85.00
Overall Rating:

Obviously, you're paying to stay at a Disney property, the only one that allows dogs. Sites are all back in and can be quite challenging even for smaller rigs. At check-in they told us that if we didn't like our site we could call the office to see if any of the nearby empty sites were available. We did change sites for better back in ability and satellite reception. Excellent wifi. Stayed 11 nights and never drove, Disney buses take you anywhere you'd want to go at WDW. All sites have a spacious concrete patio w/ table and grill. Sites are spacious, not cramped. We camped at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Lake Park Campground, Lake Park, Georgia

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Campground adjacent to Camping World. By extending our Good Sam membership for a year, the site was free. Front loop is mostly pull thru for smaller rvs, rear loop mostly pull thru for larger rigs. Excellent wifi, satellite friendly, small lake to watch the ducks. Swimming pool and on site camp host. Would stay again. We camped at Lake Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Leisure Time RV Park, Adairsville, Georgia

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Mostly long term residents, our site was along side the office directly under the wifi tower. Even so, wifi very week and not really usable. Satellite friendly site. Big central lawn area great for dog walking. Very friendly staff and residents, eager to assist with recommendations for site seeing, restaurants, etc. Easy off hwy, short drive to historic downtown. All in all, a very nice little park. Would stay here again. We camped at Leisure Time RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Pro: walking distance to almost everything, strong wifi, friendly staff. Sites are close together but not on top of each other. Con: most sites are back ins surrounded by trees, nice enough but not satellite friendly and no cable tv. Train noise consistently. We camped at The Campus RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

24 Express RV Campground, Wasta, South Dakota

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $5.00
Overall Rating:

All pull thru, fairly level gravel sites. 20/30/50 amp sites. Grass between sites is full of burrs and stickers, otherwise would have rated a 10. Very convenient to hwy 40 but little noise, especially at night. Excellent satellite and cell service. $5 overnight, $10 for 24 hour stay. We camped at 24 Express RV Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Hill's RV Park & Campground, Plankinton, South Dakota

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Self check-in although owner stopped in to assist. PA honored for multiple nights. Nice park with excellent satellite and cell service. WiFi never worked even though we were parked directly under the tower. Still, for the price, FHU is a great value. Park has a pool but was closed during our stay. All pull-thru gravel sites, fairly level. Picnic table, lots of grassy areas for dog walking. Would stay again. We camped at Hill's RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Southside RV Park, Dillon, Montana

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Rate based on weekly stay. Beautiful park in Dillon, walking distance to much of town. Easy access, big rig friendly. Pretty creek runs through park, lush grass between the gravel sites. Small museum on grounds open in summer. Free dvd library. Be sure to ask for a satellite friendly site if you need one, many shade trees provide a lovely setting. Although we were very close to the wifi antenna and there were only a few rigs present at any one time, the wifi was weak and unreliable. Owners are among the nicest, most helpful people in the industry. I would rate this park higher overall if they provided cable tv and reliable wifi. We would definitely stay here again if in the area. We camped at Southside RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

What a gem! City park on the Snake River. Restrooms, playground, walking trails. Clean park, self check-in, they do accept reservations. On-site camp host. Gravel sites with adjoined parking for tow vehicle. Concrete patio, grill. Strongest wifi of any park we've stayed in. Walk to Visitor Center for area information. Beautiful gardens and picnic areas. Grove of lilac trees in bloom, delicious scent! Would stay again. We camped at Heyburn Riverside RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

New Frontier RV Park, Winnemucca, Nevada

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Rate reflects PA discount. Very clean desert park convenient to hwy. Walk to casino ($5 free play) and restaurant (have the garlic fries-to die for). Gravel sites except for the 13 pull-thru sites, enclosed gravel dog park w/ waste station. Good wifi, excellent cable tv lineup. One of the cleanest parks we've stayed in, quiet, very few long-term residents. Small camp store. This is a new park and does not come up on our GPS, exit 180 and follow the signs, less than a mile. Would stay again. We camped at New Frontier RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Grants Pass KOA, Grants Pass, Oregon

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Rate based on monthly stay. Beautiful, rural setting yet only a mile off of hwy 5. About 20 min drive into GP, closer to small town of Merlin. Fabulous staff, very clean park. Two sections-on top nearer the camp store, and bottom nearer the creek. Although easier to maneuver a big rig on top section, we did see some big rigs opt for the bottom section. Good wifi, no cable tv. Some sites offer a nice deck. Two staircased trails down to creek, very full and rushing waterfall during our stay. Nature trails make for a nice walk with the dogs. Very pet friendly with 2 resident goats. Park is recently added to the KOA family accounting for the high price. Nice camp store with book exchange and dvd rentals. Would stay again. We camped at Grants Pass KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Merlin is the closest town, we enjoyed bargain hunting at the thrift stores and trading post. By far the best is Merlin Bargain Center-if they don't have it, it probably hasn't been invented yet. Grants Pass is a beautiful town on the Rogue River with a National Historic downtown (walk the antique, thrift, and gift shops along 6th and 7th), and the weekly grower's market each Saturday. Quaint Grants Pass Pharmacy features an old time soda fountain where they mix their own phosphates.

Uvas Pines RV Park, Morgan Hill, California

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Mostly full time residents, park is clean and quiet. Removed from hwy, nice location on Uvas Creek with walking trail. Sites are very close together, and wifi was almost non-existant despite being parked directly beneath the tower. Good satellite and cell phone service, no cable tv. Only site available for our stay was water/electric only, but honeywagon available on call. Propane available. We enjoyed this park and would consider staying again despite the high price which is typical for the area. We camped at Uvas Pines RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Free dry camping behind the Patton Museum (website requires a number). Some sites are more level than others. Good satellite and cell phone reception. Walk to truck stop w/ restaurant, gift shop, antique store. Several old army tanks are parked in this desert site, fun to explore. Easy off hwy, all sites are back in but easy enough to maneuver. On site camp manager will sign you in. Nice stop for one night. We camped at Chiriaco Summit Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
