Shore Hills Campground and RV Park, Boothbay, Maine

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

We stay at Shore Hills campground with 2 other members of our Maine Good Sam Club chapter. We stayed there the weekend of June 24th-26th and we had site 41 and our fellow members had sites 40 & 39 (a double site). The campground is beautiful with waterfront views at some sites. Our site was plenty big enough for our 19' travel trailer and pickup truck tow vehicle (our fellow members also had travel trailers under 22' on their sites with plenty of room).

Our site had nice gravel with a wood deck, (while our fellow members did not have the wood decks because it was a double site). The water, electric & sewer hookups were nice and easy to hook up to. The site was wooded with a stream behind them (it was almost totally dried up during our visit due to a lack of rainy weather). The sites all had their own trash can out along the road that was picked up, so it did not have to get taken to a central dumpster.

If you like a scenic site definitely consider a Riverside/waterfront site. A little extra cost but a great view, especially out on the peninsula (if you have a small camper and only need water and 30 Amp electric).

We had our 2 dogs with us on the trip and we all enjoyed walking around the campground and seeing the views at the waterfront sites. (Listed as Riverside on website's campground map.)

On Saturday night that had a local band playing in the campgrounds hall. They were OK. We had a great time staying here and would like to do it again someday, maybe for longer than just a weekend. The staff was friendly and liked to talk when we went up to the office. I would definitely recommend this campground to others. We camped at Shore Hills Campground and RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Take the campground's shuttle bus into downtown Boothbay and visit the stores and restaurants. It is well worth it with plenty to see and do.

Drive out to the Maine Aquarium in Boothbay which is small but cool since it had a touch tank and shark touch tank as well as many other cool tanks with North Atlantic fish/aquatic life.

Skowhegan / Canaan KOA, Canaan, Maine

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here the weekend of May 20th-22nd with our Western Mountain RV'ers chapter of the Maine Good Sam Club with 2 other members. The campground was pretty empty the weekend we stayed, because it was before Memorial Day and the pool was not open yet. The campground was quiet when we were here due to the lack of campers. There also was not much entertainment/activities due to it being prior to the "official" start of camping season (Memorial Day weekend).

My wife and another chapter member loved the hot tub even though it was small and oddly located. The outdoor pavilion needed better lighting and something added to it such as a movie screen or something of that nature to make it usable for entertainment.

The sites we had were 30/50 Amp full hookup pull thru sites. The sites were either dirt with a lot of roots from the large White Pine trees or large sized rock/gravel sites which were tripping/ankle twisting dangers. The sites were partly shaded from the large White Pine trees around the sites.

The dog park was OK but it was small and the fence did not go all the way to the ground so the ball kept going under it. The walking/hiking trails were not marked and were actually also ATV trails. The store was small and we did not use any of the bathroom/shower facilities. The staff was OK but not overly friendly.

We did go into downtown Skowhegan on Saturday of our stay (about a 10-15 min drive) to go to the breakfast buffet at Ken's Restaurant and some of our members went shopping in Skowhegan and to the 10 mile yard sale that was going on that weekend.

We would stay here again but probably try it during the prime season time between Memorial Day & Labor Day. We camped at Skowhegan / Canaan KOA in a Travel Trailer.
