Evangola State Park, Irving, New York

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

This facility was filthy. The stove didn't work. The furnace did not work and made a loud pitch sound through the night. The cabin had mouse droppings and we saw some mice above beams. We left after a few hours. Slept in our vehicle to pass the night. We were told we would be given a refund. Spent almost $600 Canadian for 4 nights. Given back less than half with no apologies. Just a: "You should expect cabins to have mice," story. Horrible place. Never ever, ever use their cabin. Save your money: go somewhere nice. We camped at Evangola State Park in a Cabin.

Evangola State Park, Irving, New York

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $92.00
Overall Rating:

When we arrived on Thursday September 11 at 6pm at Evangola state park, no one was at the office. It was closed with an envelope that had our key taped to the door. We went to our room and tried to check things out before it got too dark. We kept hearing a strange beeping noise coming from the carbon monoxide monitor. You couldn't concentrate, much less sleep with such noise. We tried the heat and it didn't work and then we turned on the stove and that didn't work either. Then we noticed mouse poop on the mattresses, the stove top was dirty and we opened the oven and that was filthy. We thought this was a little weird. 30 minutes later we noticed 1 mouse walking on the ceiling beam and a few minutes later another mouse. We made the decision to sleep in our car that night since we couldn't speak to anyone as the office was closed. The next morning we told the park receptionist lady about the situation in the cabin. She told us that nobody had been there in a week to clean or check the state of the cabin. She said, "With the cold, mice might have gotten in." She said she didn't blame us for leaving and would be happy to start the process of a refund she was very apologetic and gave us her number so as to call if any concerns. After 3 weeks and we did not hear a thing from her, we started inquiring as to when we would get our $350 refund. We were forwarded to the park ranger gentleman, who informed us that they do not give refunds and that mice are common in cabins. (I've never encountered mice in any cabin I've been to here in Canada.) Finally, after pleading my case he acquiesced to a partial refund. (It took over 2 months, but I got a little less than $100 refunded.)

I advice any who are interested in this state park to think 2x before booking a cabin. The park itself is a disappointment. The lake is not swimmable. There is nothing to do there, and of course mice in the cabins. I wish I knew this before wasting my time and money and then having to go to a hotel to spend the same amount.

Beware. We camped at Evangola State Park in a Cabin.
