Maumee Bay State Park, Oregon, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful state park. The sites are large with plenty of grass between sites and shrubs for privacy. Our site 79 was next to a water spigot which was very convenient. Park staff and the volunteers were excellent. No tree cover so satellite reception was good, t-mobile required a booster. I concur with previous reviews regarding hiking, biking and beach. We stayed for five days. We camped at Maumee Bay State Park in a Motorhome.

The Ford museum was just a little more than an hour's drive to Detroit. A full day is required to see most of the museum. It was well worth the drive.

Cherokee Park Family Campground, Mogadore, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Check in was good, staff is very helpful and cordial. We didn't read prior reviews before arriving so we did the "tour" through the private homes at Hilltop Rd. When heading south on 43 do not turn left at Hilltop as the GPS will direct you, continue south on 43 for about another mile and you will arrive at the campground. The park is tree covered but our site, D9 had sun to the southwest so we connected to satellite. T-mobile cell was good. The roads are gravel and easy to maneuver. A $4.00 charge for the use of AC is added to daily rate. We were there over the weekend so didn't hear the construction noise in the morning. The campground is clean and we would return if in the area. We camped at Cherokee Park Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Candy Hill Campground, Winchester, Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

This is our second visit to the campground, last visit was two years ago. Check in was very business like, no friendly greeting. We were led to our campsite but the guide was rather short, he even scolded my wife for talking to me on the radio. I should have cancelled his help and done it ourselves as we usually do. Campground is quite beautiful, the highway is close by but our site was quiet. Some sites are closer to the highway and can be noisy. Cell service is good, satellite reception is good. Our site has some tree shade. The pool is good. The laundry room was filthy, had not been cleaned. Machines were dirty and the floor was a mess. The campground has a compressor for tire inflation but charged for the air. Thought it would have been a good gesture to provide free air as an extra service. Overall I was not as pleased with my second visit. We stayed for 11 days. We camped at Candy Hill Campground in a Motorhome.

Parkview MHP & RV Park, Appomattox, Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Check in was easy, no credit cards, pay by check or cash. Campground is neat and clean. Some long term units toward back of campsites but they were all in good shape, none of them on blocks. FHU, sites in open sunlight. Good cell service and good for satellite. A trash can is positioned between the two sites and is collected on a regular basis. There is some highway noise but not noticeable inside the unit. I would definitely return. We stayed for two weeks, it was a good spot to leave the camper for a flight back east. We camped at Parkview MHP & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Chantilly Farm, Floyd, Virginia

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful campground in rolling hills. The roads into the campground are two lanes with no shoulders. We held up traffic because of the tight turns. I figured everyone else had to travel the same way. All the sites are in open sun so satellite reception was good. T-mobile service was nonexistent but wifi was very good. Wifi repeaters were throughout the campground. The sites were all level. this is our second stay. The office is open most times noq since they have added a full time manager. We camped at Chantilly Farm in a Motorhome.

Floyd is a small town with one stop light but has some very nice local stores. Food Lion is a good grocery store. Laundromat is open 24/7 with good machines. Blue Ridge Parkway is two miles away; visited Mabry Mill with an excellent restaurant. The mill has been restored and is in operation. Worth a visit.

Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort, Charlotte, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We camped for two nights in Camp Wilderness; the name bothered me before the booking, I was thinking of some fantasy place for camping. Fortunately it was just an RV park with normal hookups. The amusement park was just down the road but was not an issue. The roads within the park were confusing for direction and were not wide enough for passing. Sites have FHUs and paved. T-mobile was good and satellite set up was good. The staff were extremely helpful and professional. We camped at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort in a Motorhome.

Modoc COE, Modoc, South Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Site is a pull through and shaded. The site has packed gravel with a patio. In addition to the picnic table the campground provides a small table in conjunction with the grill which is a nice touch. A couple of comments on the amps and campsite loops: loop with sites 1 to 16 are 30 amp only, all other sites have 30 and 50 amps. The loop with sites 20 to 43 are the best for big rigs,; it provides easy access and the dump station is on the way out. All the other loops are beyond the dump station and require sharp turns to get back to the dump and also requires a u-turn to get into the dump station. The dumpster is a long walk from the sites; it is located near the entrance in a side loop. It is a good location for the trash hauler but not for the campers. No restroom/showers are located in loop 44 to 59. Most campsites have privacy with good distance between sites. In general the campground is not the best designed but it is still not to be missed. We would return again in the future. We camped for 14 days. We camped at Modoc COE in a Motorhome.

Sites are on a first come first choice basis. Sites with 50 amp have a yellow stripe at top of number post. Most sites are fairly level with hard packed gravel and patio. Cell service is good, sites are tree covered. No washers /dryers are available in the campground. We camped at Magnolia Springs State Park in a Motorhome.

C.B. Smith Park, Pembroke Pines, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We camp here every spring and fall. Last year we gave the park a very good rating but not so this time. The site we received was dirty with paper and cigarette butts down in the grass which means the site had not been cleaned for some time. The ground crew come regularly to pick up the dumpsters to empty them but do not pick up trash and cans nearby on the grass. The park just has a very unkempt look about it. Also the laundry area is dirty with plenty of cobwebs. On the positive side, the office staff is very professional and helpful. I hope that the park does improve for it is still the best there is in the area. We camped at C.B. Smith Park in a Motorhome.

W.P.Franklin North COE, Alva, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Very clean, neat and orderly campground. Sites are on a concrete pad with a graveled patio with covered picnic table, fire pit and grill. Kayaks can be launched right at the campsite. Good cell service and satellite. There is no playground for kids. A boat ramp is in the park. The south side of the park (across the waterway) is a day use area. Also the ranger station there has good information about the lock operation. This is a very well run park. We camped at W.P.Franklin North COE in a Motorhome.

Whispering Pines Village, Sebring, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Check was easy and owners were very helpful. We were only staying three nights as we were not able to stay the weekend at the state park. Monthly and seasonal rates are very good. The roads and campsites are very tight and it could be a problem for larger rigs to park on the sites. In fact the owners are thinking of establishing a size limit of 40 foot. Patios are cement pads, no fire pits, no tables. The seasonal neighbors are very friendly and stop to say hello. We will stay again whenever we can't get into the state park. We camped at Whispering Pines Village in a Motorhome.

Treasure Coast RV Park & Campground, Fort Pierce, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $61.00
Overall Rating:

The campgound is located on Rt 70 between I-95 and the Florida turnpike.Very easy entry and departure. It is a very large RV park. After check in we were guided to out lot and assisted in parking the rig. The gate operation was explained very carefully to us as the gate will only admit one vehicle at a time. They are concerned that if you try to squeeze in under the same opening that the gate will come down on top of you. The sites have a concrete pad with a patio and picnic table, no fire pit. The water pressure is very high, you will need a pressure reducer. We only stayed one night, it was a very convenient stop off point. We camped at Treasure Coast RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Rainbow Springs State Park, Dunnellon, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

I can only add a few comments to previous reviews. The laundry room in the ranger station has four washers and dryers which are in excellent condition. Washers and dryers were $1.25 per load. Cell service, T-Mobile, is good and clear sky for satellite. Dunnellon is within a 20 minute drive from the park. We launched our kayak from the park and paddled up to the spring head in beautiful clear water. The current was about two knots, distance was about a mile or so. The Blue Run in Dunnellon is a great bike or walking path, all black top paving. This is a campground not to be missed for Florida visitors. We camped at Rainbow Springs State Park in a Motorhome.

Little Manatee River State Park, Wimauma, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

Roads are paved and easy for big rigs. Sites are sand and dirt with good growth between sites. Our site was sunny with good satellite viewing. Electric was 20, 30 and 50 amps. T-mobile was weak but worked with booster. Kayaking was very good with a good launch site. The launch area is a good walk from the parking area. Hand carts are available to pull kayak down to launch area. Some of the hiking trails were sandy so were hard to walk. We camped at Little Manatee River State Park in a Motorhome.

Wekiwa Springs State Park, Apopka, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

Site is tree covered but had a SW sky so was able to receive satellite signal. Sites are sand/dirt with FHU and level. All sites in 1-30 have FHU, the second loop have FHU on half of the sites. They are long enough for the rig and parking of towed vehicle. The approach road is paved and wide enough for big rigs. Good cell reception on the camp sites. The spring head looks like a large pool. A bulkhead surrounds the spring with lots of swimmers on the weekend. Refer to my tips for kayaking information. We camped at Wekiwa Springs State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

An outfitter provides pick up service for your return back to your vehicle. The outfitter is located at Kelly Landing, about 12 miles away. The kayak down the Wekiwa river to King's Landing is about 8 miles. However the river is clogged with debris from the hurricane.. The best part of kayaking is to paddle up river for a mile to Rock Springs. The water is clear all the way and just beautiful.
