Memorial Forest Park, Menahga, Minnesota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Booking was on line, on arrival you self check in. No gate keeper, look for your site. The paperwork is stuck onto the pole marking the site number. If you arrive without a reservation, find any site without a reservation and move into the site. A couple of signs at the entrance would have been helpful showing the camping area. There is a map at the ranger station which did help after getting out of the rig to study it. Dirt roads surround the campground and the roads are easy to navigate. Some sites are tree covered and some open if satellite service is required. Our site had 20, 30 and 50 amp service and water, those without electric are marked. Picnic tables are new, each site has a fire pit. We never saw a ranger, but I did see a city pickup drive through once. I found the campground to be comfortable and would return if in the area. We stayed for two days. We camped at Memorial Forest Park in a Motorhome.

Jamestown Campground, Jamestown, North Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful campground, grass and trees. Some sites are open for satellite reception. Hiking paths and dog walks surround the campground. Yes it is true that they are fussy about where dogs can go but you can get around with your dog. I found the roads in the campground were easy to navigate. You are guided to your site by the owner on a bicycle. I liked that much better than the usual golf cart. We stayed for two nights. We camped at Jamestown Campground in a Motorhome.

North Park Campground, Dickinson, North Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Check in was easy with the friendly staff. We were guided to our site which was a very long site, more than enough room for the toad. However the sites were very close. The campground uses a "head to foot" arrangement. The utilities are shared between the two sites. We each have our individual power box and water. It worked well between the two campers that were back to back, but you lose privacy on the ones that are door to door. In fact none of the five campers that stayed next to us ever came out their door. The roads were easy to navigate and were dirt and gravel. The roads were sprinkled with water several times a day to reduce dust. The laundry was clean with four pairs of machines. The sites were open sunny for good satellite service. Good cell service is available. This is a well run park, we stayed for a week. We camped at North Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Creekside Mountain RV Park, Hill City, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

This is a small campground of about 15 units, very well maintained. No credit cards accepted, cash or check only. Sites have FHUs and are level. Good walking paths surround the park and a rails-to-trail hiking and bike path is adjacent to the park. WiFi is excellent. Since the park is next to 385, there is some road noise. We stayed for two weeks to have plenty of time to visit the attractions in the area. We camped at Creekside Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

All the attractions: Rushmore Memorial, Crazy Horse, Needles Highway and Hill City steam train are nearby. While at Mt Rushmore, try the TJ vanilla ice cream; made from Thomas Jefferson's own recipe. In the town of Custer is the Purple Palace with a variety of home made pies. Finally there are two brew pubs in Hill City worth a visit.

Al's Oasis Campground, Oacoma, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed one night. It is easy off/on from I-90. Outside of the camper, road noise is noticeable. Inside it is quiet. Camp sites are close with gravel and sites are level. Good cell service and open sky for satellite service. Campground also has cable which we didn't use. Pool looked good. WiFi is also available. Campground has washers and dryers. FHUs and sewer. Not a bad stop for those traveling on I-90. We camped at Al's Oasis Campground in a Motorhome.

Newberry Campground (formerly Newberry KOA), Newberry, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

This is a family run campground, check in was friendly. Most sites are tree covered so no satellite reception, T-mobile is good. Sites are dirt and not level. When neighbor checked in we lost power on the 50 amp service. We shared the electric utility with the neighbor. He was forced to use the 30 amp service. The sites were head to foot. We did get prompt service on the box and had electric back. All sites had water service. Mosquitoes were out during the day. We stayed for three days and would return if in the area. We camped at Newberry Campground (formerly Newberry KOA) in a Motorhome.

TeePee Camprground, Mackinaw City, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is a small campground, two roads, one in and one out. Some sites are tree covered but we were able to get satellite, T-mobile was good. Seems like the regular returnees are close to the beach. Our site had 50 and 30 amp service. Sites are level with sand and gravel. No sewer hook-up but a dump station is available. The utility hookups were on the right side, shared with the adjacent site. Camp ground is family oriented, kids have a great time on the beach. We came for Mackinaw Island, rode our bikes to the ferry dock. We camped for four days. We camped at TeePee Camprground in a Motorhome.

Maumee Bay State Park, Oregon, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful state park. The sites are large with plenty of grass between sites and shrubs for privacy. Our site 79 was next to a water spigot which was very convenient. Park staff and the volunteers were excellent. No tree cover so satellite reception was good, t-mobile required a booster. I concur with previous reviews regarding hiking, biking and beach. We stayed for five days. We camped at Maumee Bay State Park in a Motorhome.

Cherokee Park Family Campground, Mogadore, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Check in was good, staff is very helpful and cordial. We didn't read prior reviews before arriving so we did the "tour" through the private homes at Hilltop Rd. When heading south on 43 do not turn left at Hilltop as the GPS will direct you, continue south on 43 for about another mile and you will arrive at the campground. The park is tree covered but our site, D9 had sun to the southwest so we connected to satellite. T-mobile cell was good. The roads are gravel and easy to maneuver. A $4.00 charge for the use of AC is added to daily rate. We were there over the weekend so didn't hear the construction noise in the morning. The campground is clean and we would return if in the area. We camped at Cherokee Park Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Candy Hill Campground, Winchester, Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

This is our second visit to the campground, last visit was two years ago. Check in was very business like, no friendly greeting. We were led to our campsite but the guide was rather short, he even scolded my wife for talking to me on the radio. I should have cancelled his help and done it ourselves as we usually do. Campground is quite beautiful, the highway is close by but our site was quiet. Some sites are closer to the highway and can be noisy. Cell service is good, satellite reception is good. Our site has some tree shade. The pool is good. The laundry room was filthy, had not been cleaned. Machines were dirty and the floor was a mess. The campground has a compressor for tire inflation but charged for the air. Thought it would have been a good gesture to provide free air as an extra service. Overall I was not as pleased with my second visit. We stayed for 11 days. We camped at Candy Hill Campground in a Motorhome.

Parkview MHP & RV Park, Appomattox, Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Check in was easy, no credit cards, pay by check or cash. Campground is neat and clean. Some long term units toward back of campsites but they were all in good shape, none of them on blocks. FHU, sites in open sunlight. Good cell service and good for satellite. A trash can is positioned between the two sites and is collected on a regular basis. There is some highway noise but not noticeable inside the unit. I would definitely return. We stayed for two weeks, it was a good spot to leave the camper for a flight back east. We camped at Parkview MHP & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Chantilly Farm, Floyd, Virginia

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful campground in rolling hills. The roads into the campground are two lanes with no shoulders. We held up traffic because of the tight turns. I figured everyone else had to travel the same way. All the sites are in open sun so satellite reception was good. T-mobile service was nonexistent but wifi was very good. Wifi repeaters were throughout the campground. The sites were all level. this is our second stay. The office is open most times noq since they have added a full time manager. We camped at Chantilly Farm in a Motorhome.

Floyd is a small town with one stop light but has some very nice local stores. Food Lion is a good grocery store. Laundromat is open 24/7 with good machines. Blue Ridge Parkway is two miles away; visited Mabry Mill with an excellent restaurant. The mill has been restored and is in operation. Worth a visit.

Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort, Charlotte, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We camped for two nights in Camp Wilderness; the name bothered me before the booking, I was thinking of some fantasy place for camping. Fortunately it was just an RV park with normal hookups. The amusement park was just down the road but was not an issue. The roads within the park were confusing for direction and were not wide enough for passing. Sites have FHUs and paved. T-mobile was good and satellite set up was good. The staff were extremely helpful and professional. We camped at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort in a Motorhome.

Modoc COE, Modoc, South Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Site is a pull through and shaded. The site has packed gravel with a patio. In addition to the picnic table the campground provides a small table in conjunction with the grill which is a nice touch. A couple of comments on the amps and campsite loops: loop with sites 1 to 16 are 30 amp only, all other sites have 30 and 50 amps. The loop with sites 20 to 43 are the best for big rigs,; it provides easy access and the dump station is on the way out. All the other loops are beyond the dump station and require sharp turns to get back to the dump and also requires a u-turn to get into the dump station. The dumpster is a long walk from the sites; it is located near the entrance in a side loop. It is a good location for the trash hauler but not for the campers. No restroom/showers are located in loop 44 to 59. Most campsites have privacy with good distance between sites. In general the campground is not the best designed but it is still not to be missed. We would return again in the future. We camped for 14 days. We camped at Modoc COE in a Motorhome.
