Ajax Country Livin' RV Park at I-49, Marthaville, Louisiana

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Small Mom & Pop operation with a Catch & Release pond. We stayed a week & it was never crowded. Very much enjoyed fishing in the pond caught 42 released 41. Wi-Fi was sporadic, spot was not level, quiet & tranquil except when the owners dogs would go into barking fits. Owners were cordial & we picked the best site with a good view. We camped at Ajax Country Livin' RV Park at I-49 in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

This is a nice place to do a little catch & release fishing, enjoy the tranquility & camp like in the 1960's. Do not come expecting a resort type environment or the newest most modern equipment.

Kincaid Recreation Area, Gardner, Louisiana

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

We know to arrive & setup on a Monday or Tuesday in order to grab the best campsite or 1 of the best sites.

Normal camp site prices are $15 single & $20 double.

We are retired & use America the Beautiful Pass.

Campground will fill up on Friday.

Loop B has a nice rubberized playground for children.

Site 29 is a double site at the end of the B loop, extremely large & private surrounded by trees & an easy walk to the lake for fishing from a small pier or bank if you bring tall rubber boots.

On site 29 you will need to level your trailer tires 1 1/2" on the drivers side & to disconnect as the front will be 2 inches lower than the rear.

We lost service for 2 hours after a small storm due to a branch falling on power lines. Cleco did a very good job finding the problem & correcting it in a short time.

Electric box was good & well maintained.

Water pressure requires a reducer which is a common problem during an offseason week before a weekend.

Best bet is to bring a portable wheeled sewer container to take to the dump station as needed. Dump station is 1/2 mile distant.

This is a National Forest area so there is no accumulating & burning deadfalls from the forest. Bring your own bonfire wood.

Love the many walking & bicycle trails.

Do not expect any campsite to be perfectly level, there are no concrete pads but the camping area is solid, not even a motorhome will sink when it rains.

Safety is not a problem, we have camped at Kincaid over 20 times & have left for hours at a time to fish, boat across the lake to Tunks Cypress Inn restaurant or go into town. Never had any problems with thefts.

There is a live-in manager in both section A & section B & both are very nice but put up with zero problems such as loud all night parties, speeding, golf carts which are not street legal.

Small Garbage bins in front of every campsite & are picked up every day. We camped at Kincaid Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

This is camping in a National Forest with an attached lake. There is a very good boat launch within 1 mile. During the swimming season April to September - there is a beach area with picnic tables, permanent barbecues & a public restroom facility. This is an excellent place to walk or bicycle in the forest with numerous long trails.

Kincaid Recreation Area, Gardner, Louisiana

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Campground run by the State of Louisiana Rapides Parrish Police Jury.
Stayed in the older section in the double space at the far end #12.
Excellent walking trails, fair small fishing pier down a hill.
Electric & water only but dumping station is on the way out or use a portable for extended stays.
Each section has a live-in Manager that cleans showers & rest rooms.
There is a boat launch 1/4 mile away, a lake beach swimming area & this is a forested type campground not a resort.
Because it is within a National Forest - you must bring in any bonfire wood & it is illegal to gather wood to burn in the provided fire ring.
No Wi-Fi available or cable TV - older State Campground. We camped at Kincaid Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Meyer's Landing, Lake Arthur, Louisiana

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed the weekend during the Regatta, had long time reservations & were given an excellent location. Brother-in-law was beside us in a 43' Motorhome.
Staff were very helpful, the store carries tobacco products, ice & other amenities making it convenient.
It was a grass pad, campers were close & we brought a boat. We camped at Meyer's Landing in a Travel Trailer.

Poche's RV Park, Breaux Bridge, Louisiana

Date of Stay: December, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Love places to fish while camping & did not disappoint. Bass & Catfish are predominant - use dark colored worms for Bass.
New owners are paving every site. Level & easy access. New utility hookups but be advised sewer connection is at the furthermost rear & may require a short add-on hose (we carry extra's).
Our site was almost next to the cabins stay was Sunday thru Wed & extremely quiet. Wi-Fi reception was good, numerous local TV channels with clear reception.
I fished 4 days around every pond including way in the backside by the islands & quite unlike Louisiana - never saw a snake & I live in Louisiana & know to look.
The wide border access & golf cart roads around all the ponds are maintained with lawn type grass cutting. Maintenance workers are seen frequently working & are friendly.
Office staff is beyond helpful going the extra mile.
Roads coming to the Park are the usual Louisiana backroads which are narrow without paved shoulders which does not present a problem - drive below the speed limit. We camped at Poche's RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Beaux Bridge has a number of ver good restaurants all within a short drive. Best to head into town toward I-10 & not toward I-49.

My understanding from speaking with the staff is -- during warm weather months to reserve camping space especially weekends as they fill to max.

Staff also started a rumor the new owners will be expanding the campground adding a remote area which would be excellent.

Lakeview Park and Beach, Eunice, Louisiana

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is the place to go with the grandkids - very family friendly & fun.
Very nice lake / beach swim area where the kids had a blast. Nice little fishing lake. Very cool barn dance area on weekends that party's until the wee hours with a live band.
Older resort park with gravel pads, appears to be a problem if it has rained for a few days & the ground gets soft.
Employees are helpful & can be often seen - experience in other areas employees are infrequently noticed. We camped at Lakeview Park and Beach in a Travel Trailer.

Ajax Country Livin' RV Park at I-49, Marthaville, Louisiana

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice Mom & Pop campground. Owners are very friendly. Easy access from the Interstate. Full service. Very nice private stocked lake - caught 42 fish - Bass / White Perch / Bream all catch & release. We stayed 4 days - $3 per night extra charge for a 50amp Trailer. Very quiet at night, large well maintained lake front with setting areas, easy marked walk around the lake but it is Louisiana & partially woodland so be prepared to encounter beaver / snakes & wildlife, not a park resort. Pet friendly, we bring out Yorkie camping. WiFi is spotty at best, be prepared to use data. We will return, excellent value. We camped at Ajax Country Livin' RV Park at I-49 in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

By all means - bring a fishing pole but remember it is catch & release. Private lake, lot of fish & fun which would end if all campers pull strings of fish out of the lake. I caught 27 in 1 day & 42 total including a 3lb Bass.

Indian Creek Recreation Area Louisiana, Woodworth, Louisiana

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful State of Louisiana campground with a lake for boating / fishing.

We stayed as a 2 trailer combo in adjoining sites next to the lake with walking access to the beach. Extremely popular in the summer & around holidays so phone ahead early as in on Monday morning 8am to make reservations using a credit card.

Best sites are #54, 56,57,58,59 but require leveling.

Paved pads are not always level, be sure to bring leveling pads.

No sewer hookup so bring your portable travel buddy sewer container to bring to the dumping station if your stay exceeds your grey water fill.

Beautiful clean State campground, this is not a resort. Sites have a picnic table. because this is a woodland camping area, the area immediately around the site is never level.

Staff is incredibly friendly & helpful unless you decide to not follow the rules.

There are 2 beaches, 1 is for campers only. Boat launch for using the lake & is an extremely popular spot during weekends in the summer. We camped at Indian Creek Recreation Area Louisiana in a Travel Trailer.

Colfax Recreation Area RV Park & Campground, Colfax, Louisiana

Date of Stay: March, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Exceptionally clean, extremely nice helpful employees.

Easy access from roads & easy to back into level paved spaces.

Hookups are conveniently located, 30/50 amp, 110 outlet, sewer & water on every space.

Each space has a personal concrete pad complete with a cement table with 2 benches. Small firepit & mounted barbecue.

Young trees provide a small amount of shade.

Beside the river & has available boat launch plus boat berths.

Bathroom & shower facility which we did not use & a nice well maintained children's playground with a large shaded canopy area with benches for the adults to supervise the kids.

Excellent value with the only drawback being limited spaces (25) although an enlargement planned but all spaces are sun fronted.

We carry tarps & rope to stretch & provide a sunscreen.

Reservations well advised during peak camping times & weekends. We camped at Colfax Recreation Area RV Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Closest shopping area for forgotten items is in Colfax 2 miles distant.

Excellent place to bring a boat, has a nice wharf.

Wi-Fi is included bring your IPad.

Good Local TV reception covers all the major over air networks.

A portable canopy for shade is a must, your camper awning is facing the sun.

Kincaid Lake Campground A, Boyce, Louisiana

Date of Stay: October, 2014 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice campgrounds located around the Kincaid Lake forest area. Advisable to scout the area & secure a prime location early. 1st come 1st serve.

Very nice boat launch with a beach, picnic, barbecue area with a limited number of shaded canopy areas. The bathrooms at the boat dock are large & the lake beach areas are large.

Be advised numerous campsites are difficult to back a large rig, very limited number of pull thru sites, many require leveling the trailer & no sewer hookups.

Bathroom shower facilities within the campground are older, no security as this is a public facility. We camped at Kincaid Lake Campground A in a Travel Trailer.
