Refugio State Beach, Goleta, California

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

We normally stay here twice a year spring and fall Monday through Friday. Park is quiet and clean not many campers Monday to Wednesday. Park starts filled up on Thursday for the weekend. We like the space we stay in it has a good view on the ocean and surfers catching waves at the point. The beach is sandy, beach use to be rocky but rocks removed when the beach was cleaned up after the oil spill a couple of years ago. There are still rocks but not in the way to play on the beach. Most sites have new picnic tables all sites have a fire rings. There are many places to walk, hike, and bicycle. This is one of the few parks that are at the same level as the beach no cliffs. You can hear the waves crashing of the shore day and night. Only draw back about Refugio is not having a dump station. Since there is no hookups you need to be mindful of you water use if in a motorhome or trailer. There is a nice basketball court with solar chargers for phones or tablets using your own USB cord. We camped at Refugio State Beach in a Motorhome.

San Clemente State Beach, San Clemente, California

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

First time camping here. Parking area is asphalt ours had a slight downward slope rest of sight is dirt. Large picnic table and fire ring. Sites are a little close no shrubs between sites. Most sites have no trees for shade. Our site had a nice view of the ocean in the distance, most sites have no ocean view. It a long walk to the beach, the trail to the beach is paved with asphalt which is nice. Very nice beach once you get down to it. Park is fairly quiet most of the time. The dry camping side of the park as a few site that have very good view of the ocean. If we stay here again that's where we will stay. It looked like they allow people to camp in the day use area. Seen several motorhomes that stayed in the same spot for the three days we were there. Talked to one guy that said he sleeps in his van there. They weren't messy just seemed strange to see them there day after day. We camped at San Clemente State Beach in a Motorhome.

Refugio State Beach, Goleta, California

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

We love going to Refugio SB, clean and quiet park especially after school in back in. We always stay in site #27, which has a good view of the beach and ocean. This park is nice because the park is level with the beach no cliffs in the way or stairs needed to get to the beach. Park is well maintained and clean. Didn't use restrooms or showers, from looking in they appear to be clean. This year they replaced all the picnic tables with new wooden ones. Like watching the surfers surfing at the point and local school kids learning how to kayak. There is a lot of areas to hike and bike. When we were here last spring we seen several whales migrating north close to shore. We were in a 35-footer. We camped at Refugio State Beach in a Motorhome.

Refugio State Beach, Goleta, California

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Refugio is a beautiful beach quite and clean. Lots of places to walk you pets. Our site 27 has a good view of the ocean and can watch the surfers at the point from our site. There were several empty site the week we stayed. There is a camp store but never have seen it open, wasn't open the week we stayed last October either. Probably just open on weekends. We were in a 35 ft RV so there's only a few sites that will fit us. We will be back in the fall. We camped at Refugio State Beach in a Motorhome.

San Elijo State Beach, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, California

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed in site 157, site is secluded with bushes on three sides. Park is very quiet and clean unless your in one of the sites next to the street and railroad. Our site was far enough from both that we didn't notice them. Entrance road is a little tight for long RV's, ours is 35', the longest allowed in the park. If not careful you will hit the curb. Roads in the park are plenty wide enough for long RV's. All site parking pads are fairly level asphalt the remainder dirt. Only a few sites have full hook ups, none that a long RV will fit in. There is a double sided dump station with faucets to fill you drink water tank. We didn't use the restrooms, showers, or laundry the four days we were there. Beach access is mostly by stairs, but at the south end of the park you can walk straight to the beach without stairs. The store is well stocked. We like Bull Tacos inside the park, although a little pricey, tacos are good, especially when they have exotic meats. Their breakfast burrito is excellent. We'll be back in the fall. We camped at San Elijo State Beach in a Motorhome.

Doheny State Beach, Dana Point, California

Date of Stay: March, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice campground, clean, quite for the most part. You can hear the train but is not very loud, at least at our site #63. Had a nice view of the ocean. Park Service employees are always cleaning. Campground is kept very clean, except for people that don't think they need to clean up after their pets. The people in two sites next to us didn't think the generator run hours rules apply to them. Site #61 was going all day on the 17th, they had two small dogs they left in a small cage all day. About 6:00 PM the dogs started barking at everything. Someone showed up around 7:00 PM turn on the porch light started the generator and left. They came back around 9 to shut of the generator. The people at site #121 were also going all day and left the generator running all day, not a quiet one either. Around 10 PM either the generator ran out of gas or someone shut it off. The Camp Host was at both sites around 8:30 PM to get them to shut off the generators but no one was around. Was told by the Camp Host they can't turn off the generators as directed by the Park Service Rangers. All the sites parking areas is asphalt. We camped at Doheny State Beach in a Motorhome.
