Ontonagon Township Park and Campground, Ontonagon, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

If you want a slot at this non-reservation park you will need to call right at 8 AM EST in order to get the staff to place a cone at an available slot. At least you know will have a place to stay that night. Though not of your choice. They are very crowded in the summer and getting a slot is a good thing. The "on water" sites are limited to nine or 16 days but the "off water" are unlimited stay after you have arrived. Plus they will allow you to upgrade to on water after you are in a slot; first come first serve. Locals take up many of the slots. Showers are great but they cost $.75 for six minutes. Great staff, clean park, and super location. Depending on what you are wanting, be aware that the on water sites are right on the beach and the wave action can be noisy. The off water sites are far enough back to muffle the sound somewhat. OTA TV seems to be non existent (even though some people put their antennae's up) and satellite is very dependent on tree coverage. Very few sites have clear view of the southern sky. Good Wifi at office but ATT hotspot at site. We camped at Ontonagon Township Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Porcupine Mountain State Park is close by. The historical museum visitor center is worth a visit. Syl's Cafe and Lucy's Cafe are very good. Can bike or walk to town if you desire. Connie's Café and the IGA rent videos to make up for the lack of TV.

Tahquamenon Logging Museum, Newberry, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

This is a hidden gem of a campground. Basically an open grassy manicured field in the rear of the museum surrounded by the buildings of the museum and forest. But it is beautiful and not as bleak as that may sound. Would definitely recommend this if you only need electric. I believe there is only one 50 amp spot right up front but it is shaded by a big tree. There are only about eight slots total. The museum is open from 10 to 5 and I would recommend reservations even though the park is not busy since no one knows about it much. Very handy central location for the eastern upper Peninsula. We camped at Tahquamenon Logging Museum in a Motorhome.

Tahquamenon Falls is beautiful. Also if you like fish, Brown Fish House in Paradise is delicious. This park is handy to the south shore of Lake superior also. Whitefish point is an interesting visit and Pictured Rocks park is close enough for a day trip.

Tiki RV Park & Campground, Saint Ignace, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Superior location for surrounding area. Very helpful staff. Our rate is based on three nights a passport and one regular. Good utilities and handy dump station. We are a small motorhome but we watched larger fifth wheels have considerable difficulty getting into some sites. We camped at Tiki RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Obviously Mackinac Island is a must. But St. Ignace is a very interesting walk and tour of the waterfront. Handy to Sault Sainte Marie and also Castle Rock and the Indian casino. We were able to bike to the docs for the ferry and we took our bikes to the island.

Grand Haven State Park, Grand Haven, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Michigan state parks are popular and expensive, but there is a good reason. This park had electric only and the sites were very small and tight. We have a very small motorhome (28 1/2') and yet with the slides out we had no room within our boundaries to park the tow vehicle. The parking lot was within a reasonable walking distance. All in all, it is a good place to park on the water if you have a smaller unit. It is basically people on top of people when crowded. Would definitely recommend this park if beach front is your preference and you don't mind lots of people and units close by. The location on the water front is superior. Walking or biking the pier is very handy. The park is right on the very nice beach. We camped at Grand Haven State Park in a Motorhome.

Lake Pleasant RV Park, Bothell, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great park. With one exception. Great location, super neat and clean, good managers. Seems to be mostly permanent or semi-permanent residents but all the units seem to be maintained and look like a nightly park. They have rv storage for people going on a cruise and it is a bargain at three dollars a day with electric (110). The exception is site 201. This site is extremely small, appears to be the smallest in the park, and is more unlevel side to side than anything in the park. Anything bigger than a pop-up is going to be crowded. While it is advertised as 37 feet and we made it work at 28 1/2 foot, there is simply no room around the side of the motorhome for anything other than squeezing by. There is a line of tall evergreens on the patio side, within inches of what is left of our patio, and when the neighbor pulled in, their slide pushed the trees even further into our site. We only stayed because it was the only site available; the park stays extremely full all the time. We were able to park our very small toad sideways in front of the unit but there is also parking nearby. If they give you 201 be aware it is tiny. We camped at Lake Pleasant RV Park in a Motorhome.

Whidbey island is beautiful. Bus line to downtown is very handy in downtown Bothell. You can park for free in the City Hall underground parking and short walk to the bus stop. Only $1 each way for 65+. Library is close by but closed until Sept 2018. Kenmore is just down the road. Wifi is Tengointernet and free for only one hour per day at the park.

Yakima River RV Park, Ellensburg, Washington

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed a quick overnight on our way to Seattle based on the previous reviews. Ditto to previous reviews. Camp host met us at entrance, very friendly and helpful, and indicated that credit card was okay even though we offered cash. However only one person was allowed to do the credit cards and that is apparently the owner. We were told she would come by our trailer as soon as she returned from a day of swimming. Didn't show up until after 8 p.m. and then preferred cash due to the cc paperwork and also that we had already gotten half off. Other than that it is a pleasant, clean, handy place to stay even without the sewern bathrooms, or showers. The trains did not present a problem to us. Only heard one horn all night. We camped at Yakima River RV Park in a Motorhome.

Stony Point Rv Park & Campground, Cass Lake, Minnesota

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Very busy park. Had to take non sewer site for one week. This park is great for families and lake/water people but that isn't our thing. Came for the biking trail (MRT) but did some canoeing. Not happy that you have to pay extra for the indoor kiddy pool and hottub/sauna. Feel a little ripped off - had to pay $8 couple daily rate for 20 minutes of hottub use. Other than that, enjoyed a relaxing stay. Staff was always available and friendly. We camped at Stony Point Rv Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

North Park Campground, Dickinson, North Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is Good Sam inc. tax. Agree with other reviews. This is an overgrown oil business, mostly deserted park. Exceptional Wifi. Best of any park we have ever stayed. Came for quick overnight and stayed two nights because of all the things to do in the area. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Approach and interior roads are not the greatest (a few small potholes) but plenty of manauver space for even the largest rigs. Spaces are level gravel, pull through opposite direction with shared utility, small grassy area between units, very quiet. Would highly recommend for overnight or longer. When the oil business recovers this park will be crowded. Great local and chain business close by just off I90. Large clean bathrooms, decent laundry. Again extra kudos to the staff and wifi. We camped at North Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Camp LeConte Luxury Outdoor Resort, Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Very small park (20 sites) near Gatlinburg and National Park. Extremely well-kept, clean and neat. Management is a young couple who go overboard to make you feel welcome. Longer trailers and big rigs would find the sites a bit tight but it is doable. Our site was just big enough for our 32' 5th wheel and touches the mountain behind due to slide-out on utility side. Able to park truck in empty space since the park wasn't busy the week before Labor Day. Gatlinburg trolley stop is right in front of the campground. Wi-fi may be the best we have ever had at a campground. Cable is only 10 channels though. ATT worked well here also. Excellent park with great location. Would have stayed longer except they were full for the weekend. We camped at Camp LeConte Luxury Outdoor Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Cataloochee Valley is must do for elk sitings. Skinny, part gravel, 13 mile mountain road to get there, but worth it.

Purchase Knob Hike is nearby and delightful 4 mile (half uphill).

Stop by Maggie Valley Visitors center for excellent help.

The beginning of Blueridge Parkway is nearby and worth utilizing to get to Nat Pk.

Ocean Waves Campground, Waves, North Carolina

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

Moved to this campground after two nights at Camp Hatteras and due to the cost of Camp Hatteras. Was well worth-while. Price was better and park had some protection from the wind. Back-in sites are a bit difficult but big rigs didn't seemed to have many problems. Good store, cheap laundry and lots of videos to rent. Not as big as the more expensive parks but didn't matter since all have the same access to the beach. Would have stayed longer but needed to head for the mountains. Overall Rating:

Excellent park but only stayed there because everyone else was full on the weekend. Would have stayed longer than two nights except for the price. Wide open, no shade and windy. But right on the beach and didn't expect any more than that. Had a nice stay. Beach and sound were extremely accessible from anywhere in the park. Outdoor pool was almost as warm as the hot tub. That's good for the outdoor pool but bad for the hot tub. Super beach just over the dune. We camped at Camp Hatteras RV Resort & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Mountain Creek Campground, Gardners, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of the busiest parks we have ever stayed in. There are more children than we've ever seen in an RV park. That is probably due to the fact that they have children activities every weekend of the summer. We were given a slot for one night on a Friday even though they required three night minimum. And we had to except 30 amp since they were so full. The park was quiet even with all the campers. Easy access to the park and very handy to Gettysburg. Well-kept park with every amenity a child could want. And they really pack the campers in. We camped at Mountain Creek Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
