Vista Del Sol RV Resort, Bullhead City, Arizona

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $9.00
Overall Rating:

We are having a house built in Fort Mohave and needed somewhere to stay to monitor the building process. We are staying here for four months. Linda, who works in the office, offered us the Vista Del Sol 'first time' rate of $950 for four months which works out to $8.73 a day, plus electric. That rate increases for the winter months. This has to be one of the nicest and cleanest RV parks in the Laughin, NV, Bullhead City, AZ and Fort Mohave, AZ area. It's also a gated community. Typical RV parks in this area have dirt roads, dirt sites and are packed in to the max. All the Vista Del Sol interior roads are paved, sites are large with large 16 ft x 60 ft cement pads with the remaining site are covered in colored gravel. Our site was a pull-in on the north edge of this RV Park. Offering great views overlooking the valley of Laughin, NV and Bullhead City AZ. Very nice views of the electric lights at night! This RV Park is unique in that park models and RVs are in totally separate areas. There is no mixing of the two. Getting to your site is easy and so is parking your RV. One negative about this park is it's so new there is no shade. Even with outside temps approaching 110 degrees our inside temps remained in the lower 70s. Power was stable without any low voltage issues. The water is very hard, you might want to bring a softener with you. There is a very nice clubhouse area with two pools and a hot tub, wood working room, workout room, a game room with billiard tables and a meeting/dance room. The bathhouse is a combination of laundry and four private bathrooms with sink, toilet and shower. Two of those are setup for handicap with roll in showers. Both the bathrooms and laundry are exceptionally clean. There is free WiFi throughout the park. We have our own unlimited data plan and did not use it. There are previous comments about the wind being bad. So far we have only experienced gentle breezes which make sitting outside very comfortable. We camped at Vista Del Sol RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Golden Village Palms RV Resort , Hemet, California

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for three weeks while visiting friends that live in Hemet. Our visit was in August and this park was about 20 percent full. We had a nice quiet stay here. First week for first time visit was $169, then the standard weekly rate. This is a nice resort and the word resort is used correctly. This is a gated park. We had a site in the rear of this park. The site was wide and deep enough for our diesel pusher with four slides. The cement patio was large enough to park our car on and still have room for chairs and our BBQ. There was no shade but large shrubs separating the sites give a fair amount of privacy. Parking for our motorhome was on gravel. They do have a problem with ants here. If you do get ants just inform the office and they will have your site sprayed. Electrical 50 amp service was stable. Leg 1 - 122v and leg 2 - 114v. Water pressure was around 41 psi. During our stay we were without power for about 8 hours while annual maintenance was performed on electrical throughout the park. We were provided plenty of notice, so no problems. In September they are replacing all washers and dryers with units that will use a credit card. If you stay here for a month or longer you and you want mail delivery. You are required to get a post office box in the main building. Cost is $15 per month. We had one mail delivery here and were told very firmly that was our first and LAST free mail delivery and if we want anymore mail delivered here we would have to pay the $15 for a post office box. I'm using 'General Delivery' at the post office now. The pool area is very nice and resort quality. There are three pools and three spas centrally located at the main building. There is also a billiards room, laundry room, workout room, bath house, indoor shuffleboard all surrounding the pool area. Roads are paved and in good condition. Getting into your site with a big rig can be difficult if you are in an area with park models. Overall a very well maintained park. We camped at Golden Village Palms RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Florida avenue seems to be the major shopping road in Hemet. There is a Home Depot just outside the gate to this park. Just about every major fast food and restaurants are located on Florida avenue. You won't go hungry here.

Arizona Oasis RV Resort , Ehrenberg, Arizona

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

The Bad: As soon as you turn off the road you park in dirt parking lot. Entrance gate requires code to enter campground. The keypad is less than four feet off the ground so you have to exit your motorhome to use the keypad. Dirt, Dirt and blowing dust! Everything here is dirt. Dirt roads, dirt sites and dirt common areas. Our site was not level and dirt. The right rear tires were off the ground and left rear tires just touching the ground. Power pedestal was located at front of site and my power compartment located at rear of motorhome. My power cord was one foot to short and I had to use my 35 foot 50 amp extension cord. The power pedestal looks like a 10 year kid wired it, wires hanging everywhere. Water faucet is also located at front of site. Some turns are really tight for a big rig. Campground map very misleading, not to scale and not a true representation of the campground. That caused me to drive through the campground trying to find my site. Now the good: Check in was pleasant and receptionist offered free cable box if I needed it. Electrical 50 amp service was good, leg 1 - 120v and leg 2 - 119v. We were only here one night and did not hook up sewer or water. No idea of water pressure or water quality. We saw one 'Dog run'. It was fenced and had green grass. What was odd there was a dog in the run, but no one was with the dog. What's with that? It's ok to leave your dog alone? WiFi is available and very good with 22.3 Mbps download and 7.22 Mbps upload. There is access to the Colorado river and a 'beach area'. Not much sand mostly dirt. The premium sites near the river have a green grass area behind them, but the sites are still dirt. With prices charged here the roads should be paved with cement pads to park on and cement patios. Overall we will not be back, just to much dirt. We camped at Arizona Oasis RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Verde Valley RV & Camping Resort (Thousand Trails), Cottonwood, Arizona

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $5.00
Overall Rating:

This was our first visit to this campground. Generally I'm not overly impressed with campgrounds in the Thousand Trail system. But this one is different and not the norm. This is the best TT campground we have every been to. The roads are in good condition and paved! The facilities are well maintained. Grass is green and mowed. There are lots of annuals here. Most RVs are well maintained. The more shabby ones seem to concentrated in the H section. I went online to make a reservation. But during that process I was informed if I wanted to reserve a 50 amp site I would have to contact the campground directly. Just one call and I had a three week reservation for a site with FHUs and 50 amp service. For those of you who are not familiar with Thousand Trails getting a FHU site with 50 amp service can be a real challenge. We had to pay $5 a night for the 50 amp electrical service. We were assigned a site in the 'C' section which appears to be mostly annuals. Our site was fairly level but the gravel pad was narrow. Our steps stopped at the edge of the gravel. There was not enough room to walk on the gravel next to our motorhome and the grassy area was at an uphill slope making it awkward to walk along a slope. Picnic table was at a slope and not level enough to use. Two trees provided ample shade from the hot afternoon sun. Daily temps here were just over 100 degrees. Water pressure was a little on the low side. Pressure varied from 25 psi to just under 35 psi. Electrical was good and stable. Leg 1 and leg 2 both measured 118v without any load. When running all three ACs the voltages would drop to 112v/114v. We didn't use the campground WiFi. We have an unlimited AT&T data plan. AT&T speeds were 5Mbps to 10 Mbps download and around 8Mbps upload. We have Verizon for cell service and for the most part it work well. Verizon data didn't work at all. Slight problem getting Dish satellite 129 because of the trees. Had to use Dish satellite 61.5 as a backup. We camped at Verde Valley RV & Camping Resort (Thousand Trails) in a Motorhome.

Homolovi Ruins State Park, Winslow, Arizona

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This state park is only about 2 miles off of I40. Roads are paved and so are all sites. Park only had about 5 RVs in it during our stay. Our site was level with some shade. Most sites have some shade, but trees are small so shade is a premium. Online reservations do not tell you that there are a few 50 amp FHUs sites. Those sites are 1, 2 and 39. Not sure if these are just for campground hosts but a camper with a tent took one of these FHUs sites while we were there. Very easy for Big Rigs to maneuver and park here. There is a nice bathhouse that seems very clean. There are two Homolovi ruin sites here. Homolovi 1 has not been excavated yet, but you can follow a trail through it. Homolovi 2 has one kivas that has been excavated to view. Verizon Cell service good. We camped at Homolovi Ruins State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

What Can I say? 'Standin on the corner in Winslow AZ'. Nice tourist trap. But the really must see in Winslow is the La Posada Hotel. Built in 1930 and was the last of Harvey railroad hotels. It's been restored. Great southwestern architecture and furnishing. If you do go there you might want to eat at 'The Turquoise Room' located within the hotel. Fair prices, good service and reasonable prices.

Kirtland AFB FamCamp , Kirtland AFB, New Mexico

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Typical of Air Force FamCamps, overall in need of maintenance on just about everything, overall good FamCamp but not great. If you have an RV over 30 feet you will need to use the Truman Gate (24/7) located on the north side of the the base, off of Gibson Blvd. Smaller RVs can use the Eubank Gate (24/7) located on the east side of the base just off of Eubank Blvd. The newer section has large wide sites using common FHUs between the sites. There's absolutely no shade in the newer section. Signage here is horrible. I had to park in the area just south of the newer sites and walk around to find the office. The office is closed on weekends. There are instructions at the office for after hours check in. When arriving after hours you can park in any open site that does not have a cone in it. Then fill out the reservation provided at the office, place it in the dropbox, then mark an 'X' on your site on the campground map. You can pay by check or credit card. If paying by credit card go to the office and provide your credit card info. As others have stated if you drive your RV into the last road on the west of the FamCamp you will need to disconnect to turn around if no sites are available. In the older area most of the sites are not really big rig friendly. Dense trees offer good shade but can be a problem with large RVs and slides. Sites 25 through 33 in the older section are big rig friendly. Those sites off some shade and green grass. If you want grass and shade those are the best for big rigs. Sites 25 through 33 share a common power pedestal. Which means on some sites you will need to run you power cord under your RV to the power pedestal to the right of your RV. Be prepared and bring an good extension cord. In sites 25 through 33 every other site has a concrete pad. There is WiFi but almost useless with .71Mbps download, 3.07Mbps upload. Verizon Data 34Mbps download, 16.8Mbps upload. AT&T data 6.90Mbps download, 15.1Mbps upload. Verizon cell service was good. We camped at Kirtland AFB FamCamp in a Motorhome.

Randolph Rampy RV Park, Tatum, New Mexico

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

This is a FREE RV park! The town of Tatum NM has provided free overnight parking with FHUs to travels. They request you limit your stay to three nights. Next door to this RV Park is the town Community Center. Just after we set up, two locals came over to our MH and knocked on our door. They invited us to their free Mexican Dinner and dance too. This seems to be a very friendly town. There are five new electrical boxes. Each box has 50/30/20 amp service. Boxes are in good working condition. Our 50 amp service had 126 volts on both legs. Power was stable during our stay. The water connections are need some maintenance. We had the only faucet that had a handle on it. The other water connections are in a hole with a metal lid. Kind of yucky looking. Not sure I would hook up to those faucets. Sewer hookups are a little different too. While power and water on on the left side of your RV the sewer connection is on the right side. Hum? Anyway these are small inconveniences to actually have free overnight parking with FHUs. Verizon Cell service good. Both Verizon LTE and AT&T 4G/LTE data had good down load speeds. If back in this area we would stop here again. We camped at Randolph Rampy RV Park in a Motorhome.

JBSA Sunny Side (Randolph AFB) Canyon Lake RV Park (Military FamCamp) , Canyon Lake, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Very disappointed with this campground. Overall our site was littered with trash, cigarettes butts, an old rug and a very old rusting/rotting folding table. Doesn't anyone ever inspect these sites? Our site was not level, very rocky and difficult to walk. Cement pad for our motorhome was not level. Water condensation from our air conditioner drained to the front and side of the pad. Cement pad was constantly wet. Roads in the Randolph side of campground are paved EXCEPT for the RV section. The only road in RV campground was mostly dirt with some gravel that produces lots of dust. The gravel road leading to the RV campground is washing out and in need of repair. The only thing working in the laundry room appears to be the air conditioning. Both washers were marked 'Out of Service'. At one time there must have been WiFi throughout the RV campground. Remnants of a WiFi system are here but nothing is working. Satellite reception was good as well as Verizon and AT&T cell and 4G/LTE data. On the plus side, there is a marina here, boat launch facilities and some wet slips available. Power good on both legs of 50 amp service. Voltage 122 and 123. There is also a 'beach' that doesn't appear to be sand but more dirt. We won't return here again. We camped at JBSA Sunny Side (Randolph AFB) Canyon Lake RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

A+ Motel & RV Park, Sulphur, Louisiana

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is our third time here. Overall a very nice RV park. Park is well maintained, grass is mowed and grounds are clean. This RV park has become almost all seasonal. Approximately 90% of park is seasonal. That's not a bad thing. Monthly rates are $675/$750 including electricity. RVs are newer and clean. There is a requirement here that EVERYTHING outside your RV must stay on your patio. Most abide by this. Just about every RV here is a 5th wheel and most are being towed by large pickup trucks which barely fit in their site. In the evening when everyone returns from work is it can be a challenge to get to your site. Vehicles are not permitted to park in the street, but that does not seem to be enforced. That being said this is a nice park. WiFi is free, but with this park at almost 100% full the WiFi is slow. We found the restrooms clean, but having an extremely musty smell. We did not use them. There are two pools. One just for adults and one for adults and kids. The adult pool area also has a hot tub that is controlled by anyone using it. Water pressure good 40/50 psi. All hoses and cables must remain on your cement pad. That's a good idea for mowing the grass. Office is open 24/7 and staff is informative and good natured. Another nice thing here is you can wash your RV and they encourage you to do that. There is also a dog run here. Verizon Cell data is excellent. Ping 25ms, 111Mbps download and 31.2Mbps upload! AT&T Cell data ping 78ms, 10.5Mbps download and 9.75Mbps upload. We camped at A+ Motel & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Shields RV Park (Military FamCamp), Gulfport, Mississippi

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

There are now two separate campgrounds here. The older section located very close to the Pass Road gate and a newer section (2016?) located at the far west end of the base. The older section has mostly pull troughs and a few backins. There are no trees, sites are large and streets are easily navigable. But overall very sterile looking. No protection from severe weather (thunderstorms). We stayed in the newer section. There are trees bordering the campground offering protection from severe weather. Which was common during our stay. Sites are slightly smaller but will handle the largest RV and a vehicle. Roads are just as navigable as the older section. Night lighting has mostly decorative low light on three foot poles, effective but not harsh and very pleasing. There are a few street lights. Overall good lighting throughout campground. WiFi is free throughout and requires sign up using a credit card. Only one device can be connected at a time using the account. There are numerous WiFi antennas in the campground. WiFi signal is very good (-43db). We only used our unlimited AT&T data. All sites are concrete with small portion of asphalt connecting to the road. You can easily park your vehicle in your site. The bathhouse is one of the best I've every seen at a FamCamp. There are four private bathrooms. All are tiled, sink, hair dryer, toilet and shower. See photos. There is a laundry here and very clean. Grounds are well maintained, grass is mowed, no trash, bathrooms are exceptionally clean. There are 'seasonals ' here, but you can't tell. Appearance of campground is excellent. Water pressure varied between 30/40 psi. This campground is VERY quiet. No train or emergency vehicle noise here. There is a commissary and exchange here. Commissary is not small as stated in earlier reviews. Exchange is typical in size. There is a base theater, but only open on weekends during our stay. The Navy has done a great job on this FamCamp! We camped at Shields RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Maxwell-Gunter AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp), Maxwell Gunter AFB, Alabama

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

When using the main gate watch out for low oak tree limbs on Maxwell and Kelly. Our motorhome is 12' 8" and numerous tree limbs scraped our roof. No damage, but nerve-racking. Sites at north end of campground have great shade, but satellite reception looked nonexistent. About half the sites have a covered patio over a cement pad. All sites have cement pad and full hookups. Sites are close together, but deep enough for your RV and vehicle. Interior roads are gravel some are rougher than others. After turning off from Kelly the road going around the flight line is rough, slow down and you'll be fine. We camped at Maxwell-Gunter AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Camping World RV Sales of Chattanooga, Chattanooga, Tennessee

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Camping is free if you use the Camping World Service Department during your stay. That's the reason for the 'Value' having an Excellent rating in my review. I would not have paid to stay here. Our site was narrow, trees in area and a narrow road made it difficult to enter site. Site was mostly dirt, some gravel and very little grass. Water spigot was not two inches above ground. If I didn't have a 90 degree elbow with me I would not have been able to attach my water hose to the spigot without removing dirt from around the spigot. Water pressure was good, but within an hour of arriving water was turned off for about an hour. Picnic table was very old, weathered, warped and splintered. Campground has cable TV, with SD channels only, channels are weak and 'snowy'. No WiFi in campground, WiFi is available in Camping World store. Parts of campground heavily treed. Our site was not that heavily treed, but our satellite antenna could not 'see' any of the Dish satellites 61, 72, 77, 110, 119 and 129. There are a few sites near the Service area the might get satellite reception . Campground is mostly seasonals, quite a few RVs were dirty and visually in need of repair. Interior roads are paved, but still lots of dust. Pool was closed during our stay with no reason given. Overall campground is clean. We were only here to use the Service Department otherwise we would not stayed here. The old saying 'You get what you pay for' applies here. We camped at Camping World RV Sales of Chattanooga in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

There are seasonal RV here, but did not distract from overall campground appearance. Our site was level, 50 amp service leg 1 - 122v, leg 2 -122v. Water pressure 48 psi. Site was easy to get to and had good satellite reception. Great for an overnight stop. Not to much in the area to see. If driving north to campground use I95 and take exit 17 to go south on Hwy 301 to campground entrance. Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $58.00
Overall Rating:

County road leading to campground is narrow and twisty but doable in a large RV. When we arrived, the office upgraded our standard back in site to one of their deluxe pull thru patio sites because of our military service. The road leading to the pull thru site is up hill and a tight right turn. Site 50 amp service, leg 1 - 120v, leg 2 - 120v. Stable power. Water pressure 58 PSI. Our site was level and good satellite TV reception. Good Verizon cell and data. Deluxe patio site very nice, good patio furniture and nice fire pit. Wish we had the time to enjoy the patio but we only stayed one night. Campground host has three adorable rescued Papillon dogs. Since we have a Papillon too, we had a good visit and learned how to rescue a Papillon. We camped at Delaware Water Gap / Pocono Mountain KOA in a Motorhome.
