March, 2015 -
We stayed at Astor Landing for the month of March. The campsite is well off the main highway and is very quiet. The catch and release pond in the center made it very pleasant. This was our first time camping in Florida so we had no idea what to expect. We encountered no ticks and no bears. Sitting on the dock each night we saw lots of alligators but none close enough to be a danger. The staff was friendly and accommodating. It would be our recommendation if you want to fish to bring a boat. We had no luck fishing from the dock. St John's River is incredible and with a boat would definitely be fun to explore. We found many things to do in the Astor area and will consider going there again. We camped at Astor Landing Campground & Marina in a Travel Trailer.
Fishing on the St. Johns river. Or just watch the sunset.
