Powell Campground, Powell, Idaho

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Really enjoyed this campground. It was quiet, private, shady. The forest felt like we were in the Pacific Northwest. Close and convenient to the river, hot springs, convenience store, and a lodge. Far enough off the highway that there was no road noise. We camped at Powell Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA , Arco, Idaho

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

We normally boondock camp, so my review is based on that perspective.

Clean campground, but very little shade. It was pretty hot in mid-July during the day, but cooled off at night. It was a very convenient location for visiting Craters of the Moon and the EBR-1 nuclear site. It was full most of the nights we were here.

The waffle breakfast was only from 9-10 AM, so we weren't able to make use of it, as we wanted to get our day started early to avoid the heat.

The pool is very clean but cold. Even on a 100 degree day, the pool was too cold to stay in for very long. They did have a lawn sprinkler "thing" that the kids could play with (running through it to get wet) and that was a big hit.

Showers were clean (albeit a bit musty smelling) and we did not have to wait in line to use them.

I accidentally signed up for the KOA club when making my reservation online - so just be aware when booking online. It was $30, but saved us $17, so I didn't fight the charge.

We had site F1 which was nice in that there was a grassy area next to it for the kids to play, but in retrospect, F2 would have been a better site. It had a decent shade tree right over the picnic table. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Brantley Lake State Park, Carlsbad, New Mexico

Date of Stay: March, 2015 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

The hand-held shower wand in the far left stall was the most excellent shower I've had camping! We use this as the gold standard for camping showers now - as in: "Were the showers here up to Brantley Lake standards?" Our site #24 had a view of the lake. The shade over the picnic table was nice. The kids' playground was excellent and also had a shade cover over it. We used this as our home base for Carlsbad Caverns. Note - they allow wood/charcoal fires here in the bbq, but there is no firewood available to purchase. We were unable to purchase any in Carlsbad, either. So bring your own. While we were away during the day, somebody came by and cleaned the ashes out of the bbq each day! We camped at Brantley Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.
