Hillsborough River State Park, Thonotosassa, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We camp in a 27' class A. Our sight was easy for back-in and spacious despite neighbors all around. It was close to level which was great for manual leveling. Water and electric were easily accessed on the left side of our rig. Despite the close proximity to the metropolitan area of Tampa, over the air TV was spotty at best because of the tree canopy. There are miles of walking, hiking and biking trails and river access. The Park is is to access from US 301 from I-75.

We will camp here again. We camped at Hillsborough River State Park in a Motorhome.

Bring your Deep Woods Off or other mosquito repellent as the low area associated with the river has the little beasts rallying all day, year rond!

Fort De Soto Campground, Tierra Verde, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2014 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great County Park with access to Tampa Bay, the Historic Fort DeSoto and many great shops and restaurants within biking distance. The staff is great and responsive to any concerns. If you have a dog(s) the dedicated dog beach and exercise areas for small and large breed is the best we have seen in our travels. You are a short drive away. There is a great camp store. You can fish directly from many of the campsites. The sites are close together, but have great natural screens that make you feel secluded. The campground has dedicated areas for campers with or without pets. Our only complaint is that the rules do not allow you to even walk your dog in the "non-pet" area. For responsible pet owners, this really limits your wandering in the park.

We camp in a 27' Class A. We camped at Fort De Soto Campground in a Motorhome.

Book early! This is one of the most popular destinations in the greater Tampa Bay area and is full almost year round. They reserve 10% of the sites for "walk-ups" on weekends, but it got so crazy with coaches lined up on the main road that they run a first come first serve on-line "walk-up" starting at 7am on Friday morning. Good luck

Destiny Dallas RV Resort, Denton, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2014 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

We called late from the road for a reservation trying to stretch travel distance on this trip. We were quickly accommodated by the Staff including "amended" directions for the correct exit to take from I-35E South. The one the GPS provides is too short for an RV to make the turn from the ramp. After check-in we followed the map to our site. It was a corner pull-thru that wasn't very level, But we realized we were lucky to have gotten a site so late. It was clean and had a picnic table that was easy to move. The camp has by far the best showers and restrooms you will ever find. clean, spacious, great water pressure and hot water! The hot tub was perfect for the aching back and made for a great night sleep. despite the full park, it was quiet by sunset. There was a great mix of overnight and extended stay campers. We met a lot of great folks on our corner site in just a few hours.

We camp in a 27' Class A. We camped at Destiny Dallas RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If your rig needs a wash, there is a big-rig Rub-A-Dub wash rack on site complete with second story stairs to reach the tough spots. If you travel with a dog that needs room to run, there are a couple of well maintained acres at the front of the park to run, throw a frisbee or just walk.

Tucumcari KOA, Tucumcari, New Mexico

Date of Stay: November, 2014 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The campground is very easy to access off I-40. It is one of the quietest campgrounds we have experienced. We were greeted promptly by smiling faces. Our hostess explained all the advantages of the KAO membership so now we have one and save $$$ on our stays. We were escorted to our large pull through site by the camp host. The water and electric were working and convenient. We level manually, so finding the hard packed pad nearly level was a plus. We ordered our dinner from the on-site grille and had great chicken sandwiches delivered to our site! Not only were the shower and restroom facilities like new, the water was hot for our showers. We are staying here again. We camped at Tucumcari KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you travel with a dog, there is a clean, fenced dog park next to the main building. If your dog needs lots of walking, the area is very dog friendly. Your kids will enjoy the pool.
