Kiva RV Park and Horse Motel, Bernardo, New Mexico

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

We paid $22 with AAA. Passport America would have been $14. All sites are full hook ups. Numerous permanent residents but their rigs were neat and in good condition. Park is next to I-25 but the noise didn't bother us with a fan running. Nice clean park with long level pull-through sites.

Very large bathroom. Women's bathroom had one large shower and men's had two smaller ones. Shower heads were a bit low but plenty of hot water. Paper towels and a portable heater in the bathrooms.

A good spot for an overnight stop. We will stay here again. We camped at Kiva RV Park and Horse Motel in a Travel Trailer.

Meade State Park, Meade, Kansas

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Price is for water & electric camping plus the required day-use fee. Tight roads and turns with back-in only camping spots. Lots of big, old cottonwood trees. The night we decided NOT to stay here there was a huge thunderstorm with 50 mph winds, so we were very glad not to be parked under those trees.

Push-button showers that ran for 30-60 seconds between pushes. Very weak water stream in showers. We camped at Meade State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Western Star RV Ranch, Liberal, Kansas

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Park was new in 2005. As everyone says sites are large, level and oriented so that the rear of your rig faces into the perpetual wind. Several trains woke us through the night as the tracks are just the other side of US 54, and our fan and white noise were not enough to drown them out, but we went right back to sleep.

There are two bathrooms both very large and each with a combined shower/toilet/sink. Showers are starting to show their age; shower pan is stained from people and mineral water. Bleaching them once in awhile would help. Strong showers with lots of hot water. Bonus points for paper towels and a place to hang your clothes and towels. Floor drain was dirty and should be scrubbed more often.

There's a $1 pool table in the same building as the showers, and a lounge area. I think there was a TV but not certain. AT&T 4G with 5 bars made for very fast internet access. We didn't use the park's WiFi. We camped at Western Star RV Ranch in a Travel Trailer.

Ozark Highlands RV Park, Springfield, Missouri

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Quiet mobile home park that accepts RVs. Homes range from nice double-wides with improved lots to slowly degenerating camping trailers. Our only complaint is that there are only two bathrooms, each with a toilet, sink and shower, which isn't enough for the number of RV'ers that were there. Another bathroom is under construction. We saw male park staff using the women's bathroom, and neither bathroom was clean. We camped at Ozark Highlands RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Walking distance to Walmart and Home Depot, numerous restaurants. Target is nearby. Very convenient location on the southeast side of Springfield, near US-65.

Oak Glen RV & Mobile Home Park, Chandler, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Large combination bathroom/shower rooms that are dark and old and badly needing renovation, but plenty of hot water. Overnight sites are shaded and fairly level pull-throughs. Park is mostly permanent residents, fronting on a mobile home park back behind. Bonus points for having paper towels in the bathroom. Minus points for decrepit, rusting shower caddies, mirrors that look to be 100 years old, cove base pulling away from the walls, dirty, dark rattling ceiling fans....you get the idea. But the shower, floor, toilet and sink were clean. I doubt we'll stay here again. We camped at Oak Glen RV & Mobile Home Park in a Travel Trailer.

88 Shades RV Park, Quartzsite, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Park is mostly permanent residents, many old-time travel trailers (50s and 60s) so kind of a blast-from-the-past to walk around. Large level pull-through sites for overnighters, which are further away from I-10, so not much highway noise. Typical one-piece molded stall showers were clean and had lots of hot water. Friendly residents and management. We will stay here again. We camped at 88 Shades RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

City of Rocks State Park, Faywood, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful setting next to large field of eroded boulders and huge pillars of rock. Far from anywhere. I was looking forward to seeing the Milky Way in all it's glory but forgot there was a full moon that night, which was so bright it washed out all but the brightest stars. Great place. We'd stay here again except my wife hated the shower, which was a timed push button with almost no time between required pushes. Newer and very clean state-park style bathhouse, i.e. cold when it's cold outside and hot when it's hot outside. But the location can't be beat. We camped at City of Rocks State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Desert Trails RV Park (40+ park), Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

A large, quirky park on the site of a defunct water amusement park. Place caters to snowbirds who rent for the season, and short-term RV'ers. Very friendly owners and campers. Few or no permanent residents that we could see. Great location on the literal edge of Tucson Mountain State Park, with miles of beautiful desert hiking at your doorstep. WiFi so-so, ATT 4G data connection was good. Nice clean bathrooms with good showers (stalls are a bit narrow) and plenty of hot water. Bonus points for paper towels in bathrooms. Very good laundry facility. In the country several miles from south Tucson, nothing within walking distance. Very quiet! Book exchange library and a selection of DVD's on the honor system. We camped at Desert Trails RV Park (40+ park) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Try the mexican food at Los Nopales, about 5 miles east of the campground...it's a hole-in-the-wall, but very very good! Closes at 7:30, so don't arrive late.

Along the River Park , Capitan, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

This is a small campground under new management since 2012. It's closer to Capitan than to Ruidoso. Pretty site along a river. There was a huge forest fire in the surrounding mountains in 2012, so miles and miles of dead trees...not so scenic. Very friendly owner. Weird bathroom/shower, very tired and in need of renovation. Hot water heater and something (well pump?) in the middle of the bathroom. Sign on shower says that it runs 5 minutes at full pressure and then shifts to low volume, but we both showered within our allotted 5 minutes. It's too far off US-70 to be a good overnight choice if you're passing through Ruidoso. We camped at Along the River Park in a Travel Trailer.

There's a very steep climb and even steeper drop between Ruidoso and this campground, so be prepared!

Palo Duro Adventure Park, Canyon, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

We pulled through this place because it's on the rim of Palo Duro Canyon. Only one RV was there in a Huge flat, level lot on the canyon rim. Office was locked with no way to contact anyone even though it was a Wednesday afternoon. As I said, no one was camped there either. Access to bathrooms/showers was blocked by litter and garbage, and some sort of tower under construction, probably for a zip-line. This place appears to be out of business as a campground. We camped at Palo Duro Adventure Park in a Travel Trailer.

Outdoor Resort - Palm Springs, Cathedral City, California

Date of Stay: March, 2015 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

$45/day was the monthly rate. Daily rate is higher...I think around $80. We've stayed here for the months of February and March for each of the last 6 years. Gated security, two huge clubhouses, 27 hole par-3 golf, multiple tennis courts, swimming pools and hot tubs. Over 1,000 sites that are all individually owned, you rent directly from the owner or from one of the rental companies that service the resort. Beautiful landscaping and views of Mt. San Jacinto. We camped at Outdoor Resort - Palm Springs in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Sites near Ramon Road get a lot of road noise during the day, try for a site further to the south.
