Aurora Oaks Campground, Hardin, Kentucky

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

The campground is a former KOA located back in the woods off US 68. The campground is under new ownership (less than a week). As of now, it is cash only. The new co-owner, said they are working on getting a credit card machine soon. Please note the rate is different than what is listed on the website. They gave us our choice of the six sites for weekend campers. The rest of the campground is on a lease per year basis. There are a lot of campers here, but ironically, not too many were here this weekend in July when we came. This campground had areas where definitely TLC is needed, but in other areas, you could see recent updates. New waterspouts at each site, the bathrooms were recently updated, and look exceptional. The pool was clean. One of the owners showed me a cabin they have, and it was awesome looking inside. Then there were things that tended to take away from the natural ambience this place could have. A vineyard is up front as you pull in. However, it is a little unsightly and not well cared for. The fence around the pool, while safe, has seen better days. My wife and I spoke extensively with the new owners and they are planning a lot of improvements. We will return as we want to see what they have in store for this campground. We camped at Aurora Oaks Campground in a Motorhome.

Osage Beach RV Park, Osage Beach, Missouri

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Upon arrival, one thing I noticed right off was the parking was used for checking in, for the shower house and for the pool. Made for a bit of a log jam. Check in was smooth and efficient. The park was moderately full, mainly with a number of Class A Pushers. Our back in site was with a large grass area behind us where the firepit was located. This Park was a former KOA and like the other KOA we stayed at, the sewer hookup was toward the front of the site, so make sure you bring a long sewer hose. The bath house was sparkling clean, as was the pool. The park felt as though you were out of town, yet we were 3 minutes from Walgreens, HyVee, and McDonalds. Location cannot be beat. Good experience with this park. We will be back!!! We camped at Osage Beach RV Park in a Motorhome.

Hillman Ferry Campground, Grand Rivers, Kentucky

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Hillman Ferry is a large campground! It is easy to get lost if you do not have a map. Check-in was orderly for us, about five minutes. However, we checked in on the Thursday of Memorial Day weekend. When we left Friday night to go eat in Grand Rivers, the line was almost a quarter mile long, so obviously check-in was slower. Most sites are water and electric only. The dump station, which we used twice during our stay, was well set up and easy to access. Our site was in C loop and right on the water. The spacing between each site where we were was about 300 feet on both sides. Beautiful view! Be sure and read closely on the description as you reserve sites. Ours was level but the approach off the road was very steep. We saw a number of sites that were not level. As I said earlier, Hillman is a big campground. The distance to the shower house, boat dock, camp store and other places are far apart. Many people brought in golf carts to get around. The boat dock was not too busy, even on Memorial Day weekend. The shower houses were clean, the only thing I didn't like about ours was the individual shower rooms lacked a mirror. The camp store was well provisioned (no alcohol sales however!) and the NPS volunteers who staffed the store were friendly and helpful. Our campground host and hostess made a point to introduce themselves to us and let us know if we needed anything to let them know. Even though we were on the far end of the campground, we saw Park Rangers drive around our loop four times during our stay. That was a good thing as there were a number of kids on the road walking and biking. Hillman also had bands playing at the campground Saturday and Sunday nights. All in all, it was a great experience and we will return again. We camped at Hillman Ferry Campground in a Motorhome.

Orlando RV Resort (Thousand Trails), Clermont, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

Not really sure what to say about this park other than it looked real tired! It was one of those places that back in its day, it was a really nice park. Case in point, some sites had concrete pads, but ours was busted up concrete covered in gravel. The store looks like it probably was nice at one time, but it was stocked with minimal items and we couldn't find the help in there when we went. Bathrooms were dated, but were clean. The resort was landscaped nicely. Our patio table wobbled pretty bad and we decided it was not safe to sit on. For what the website looked like and what the park looked like, it was a tale of two cities. We camped at Orlando RV Resort (Thousand Trails) in a Motorhome.

Saint Andrews State Park, Panama City Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

This has to be one of the most interesting parks we have ever stayed in! First off is the location, on a peninsula to the southeast of Panama City Beach's strip. Just outside the park is condos, motels, restaurants, bars, etc. Once you enter the state park, you are in palmetto and pine forest. Check-in was easy and efficient and the staff is very friendly. The park entrance is monitored by Florida Wildlife and Fishery personnel, so make sure you have your vehicle tag with you at all times. Our campsite was right on the water of St. Andrew's Bay, and we had our own beach area behind our motorhome. Another neat aspect about the location, we watched the sun come up over the water in the morning from our personal beach behind the motorhome and then at night, we went to the state park beach on the gulf side and watched the sun set over there! Talk about awesome! The wildlife in the park did not seem to fear people at all, so be careful driving as deer will just stand in the middle of the road and not move for you. Don't miss a chance to visit this state park if you are in the PCB area. We camped at Saint Andrews State Park in a Motorhome.

Catherine's Landing, Hot Springs, Arkansas

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

Think Catherine Landing is the most expensive RV park we've stayed at, but so far, it also has been the best. There is not too many negatives I can find about this park. Big dog park, super clean restrooms/showers, concrete pads with plenty of space to stretch out, a great little store on-site, salt water pool, not to mention the other activities, like the boat ramp, zipline and disc golf for those that are interested. While we were here for the Arkansas Derby and spent a considerable amount of time in Hot Springs, we could've easily stayed at the park and not ventured into town once and called it a great long weekend for us! We had a lakeside camping spot we thoroughly enjoyed as we had a front row seat to the sights and sounds of nature. This park we recommend whole heartedly! We camped at Catherine's Landing in a Motorhome.

Graceland RV Park & Campground, Memphis, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Fourth stay at Graceland and it was good as the previous three were. The pull in sites were good for us as we were just staying the night and wanted to keep our tow hooked up. We were in 48, directly across from the shower house, and it was super convenient. This RV park is a little tight in spacing, but not over the top close. The dog park is very nice. Watch it entering and leaving, as the new Graceland hotel is under consctruction across the street from the entrance. We camped at Graceland RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

South Marcum Campground, Benton, Illinois

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Check in was done by a very informative and friendly campground host. Our site was clean upon arrival. The one lane roads are a bit tricky if you are in a large rig. While our site was level, we saw many sites that were no where near level. Our site had water and sewer, but check before you reserve a site, because most of them were electric only. Very scenic area along Rend Lake. Showers were clean, but men's room for reason had no hot water, but my wife indicated the women's rest room showers were almost too hot if you turned the water up too high.

Fire rings and picnic tables are at each site. Wal Mart in Benton is about 5 minutes away, so if you forget something, you won't have a long trip to town. A lot of space between sites. Overall, my wife and I enjoyed our experience at South Marcum and will return. We camped at South Marcum Campground in a Motorhome.

John James Audubon State Park (Closed for 2018), Henderson, Kentucky

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Audubon State Park is a little funky in its location: the park is located on US 41 in Henderson, but when you pull in, you go from city to wilderness in about 100 yards. The gal at the check-in gate allowed us to check in early. Sites are crowded together pretty close. Our site, number 5, had electricity and water, but the spigot and electric box were located about 40 feet from the camper. Shower houses were dated and in need of a little cleanup. Could've been because it was Sunday morning, but showers were a bit dirty. I think this state park would be one that would appeal to those who want the "away from it all" experience, yet want city amenities like restaurants and night life. Ellis Park is located 3 miles north of the state park for Horse racing fans. We camped at John James Audubon State Park (Closed for 2018) in a Motorhome.

Kentucky Horse Park Campground, Lexington, Kentucky

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This was our third time at Kentucky Horse Park, and they didn't disappoint on this stay either. A couple of things you have to be prepared for however. Many sites are 90 degrees to the narrow roads in the loop and it makes it tough for a big rig to back in to. Another item of note is the water pressure. It is high in this park, so adjust your regulators accordingly. The store is well stocked, so well we really didn't to have to leave the campground for too much. The scenery was spectacular in April with the trees blooming and the grass greening up.

Shower houses were clean.

One other thing to watch for is kids playing in the roads. The inside road especially is difficult to see going around the corner, so follow the posted speed limits. We will definitely return here again. We camped at Kentucky Horse Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Lynnville Park Campground, Lynnville, Indiana

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Called and made reservations with the Village Park office. Great location on Indiana 68 west of Lynnville and easy on, easy off on the interstate. The person I talked told us there is no one on site and pay is by the honor system and that is just how it was when we arrived. We had a pull-through, number 23. Sites are a little tight, but we've seen worse. There were three other campers here so it wasn't crowded, no surprise given it was late March. Full hookups at our site, and everything worked fine, cell reception was a little spotty, no Wi-Fi at this park, nor did we expect it. The bathrooms left a little bit to be desired. toilet paper and hair on the shower floor. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that it was the beginning of the season, and it does appear they are working on them as the men's room was closed due to painting and cleanup. The park is in a reclaimed strip mine area and the lakes in the park are beautiful! It was a great place to walk the dog. There is a nice playground on site as well. All in all, I would say this is a good overnight stop. We camped at Lynnville Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Kentucky Horse Park Campground, Lexington, Kentucky

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here during the Breeders Cup. The park was at capacity most of the weekend. We didn't have a sewer hookup on our site (249) and when we checked out Sunday morning, we did have to wait in line for the dump station. The park is kept pretty clean. Despite being at capacity, we had no problem getting in and out of the shower house or the camp store. We camped at Kentucky Horse Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Graceland RV Park & Campground, Memphis, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed closer up to the shower house and dog park on this visit. One of the nice things we had access to at Graceland RV Park that I didn't take advantage of last time was the Heartbreak Hotel lounge. Within walking distance of the RV Park, this lounge was great for watching college football on a Saturday. The park was clean, just like the last time we were here in May. Dog Park and the back lot is a beautiful tree covered park area that is peaceful and scenic. Uber is available down there now, and it was easy to get a ride to Midtown and downtown. Watch the water pressure! We kept our water turned halfway as the water pressure went into the red on our regulator turned all the way up. This park is really good for an urban park and we'd definitely come back. We camped at Graceland RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Two Rivers Campground, Nashville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Check in was easy and painless. Park was clean, sites were fairly close together, but not on top of each other. Showers were clean but narrow stalls. Store was nice and the staff very helpful. Pool wasn't used a lot, which I don't know why because it was so clean. We really enjoyed it. We'd definitely stay here again. We camped at Two Rivers Campground in a Motorhome.

People's Creek Campground, Wappapello, Missouri

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at the Lower Peoples Campground. The steep entrance going down into the campground will take your breath away! I do not think I have seen a steeper paved road. Check in was a breeze and not just our lot, but all of the lots were level on a paved surface, despite being in up against the side of the hill. We were right by the bath house and we saw them being cleaned daily. Lots are fairly close to each other, not smothering. The dump station on the way out was super convenient to the exit of the park. This campground does tend to flood (about 6 sites were underwater while we there), so check with the COE before confirming reservations there. We camped at People's Creek Campground in a Motorhome.
