Laguna Seca Recreation Area, Salinas, California

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $62.00
Overall Rating:

The new name for this park is "Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca." Access for a big rig is tight, the roads are narrow and very steep (in one place, 16% grade). Our site was listed as "Premier." Not so much, in my opinion. There is electricity and water. No sewer so you have to be careful about the capacity of your holding tanks. This is an old park with a lot of big trees and is not configured for big rigs. The sites are dirt and dust, short and sloped downhill. Bring chocks and wood for shoring, lots of it, if you want to be level. Our dualies were off the ground if we wanted to be level so we just used some boards and lived with not being level, instead. If you are here for the races, I guess it's worth it, but this is severely rustic camping. We camped at Laguna Seca Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Bakersfield RV Resort, Bakersfield, California

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed at horrible, shabby parks that cost twice as much as this per night. This is a very nice park! The sites are big and bright with grass and trees. There aren't many parks with a sit-down restaurant and bar but this one, the Crest Bar and Grill, has great food, a full menu, a full bar and patio dining if you wish and a super-friendly staff. We had a pull-through site that was nearly level and the sewer hook up was low and level to the ground, not like some parks that think that liquids flow uphill. They warn about thievery in this area and offer folks a complimentary bike locks. The baths are clean and modern and you need a code to enter, which I like. There is a nice store and gift shop pretty well stocked with supplies, small gifts and local wines. We would most definitely stay here again! We camped at Bakersfield RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Lots of Basque influence in this area. Two Basque restaurants, Benji's and Woolgrowers. Good food but a little pricey. The stores carry local wines local grass-fed meats.

WillowWind RV Park, Hurricane, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

What a beautiful park! I don't give out high grades very often but this park is excellent! There are so many mature, broad leaf trees it is like we were parked in a shady forest. The site was concrete with a patio. The bathrooms and showers are individual and private with a combo on each knob. They are sparkling clean and well-maintained. We even had cable TV for the first time on a 5 week trip! The only reason I didn't give this park a 10 is that the sites are not very far apart. We could have used a little more room but if you want a "Super Site," you can surely get one. We love this place! What a fantastic job they are doing! We will definitely stay here again! We camped at WillowWind RV Park in a Motorhome.

There is a very nice museum in town, Hurricane Pioneer Museum, and some old original houses to see. You can go inside the Bradshaw house, built in 1906. The museum curator, Mathis, is a very pleasant man.

Monument Valley KOA, Monument Valley, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very young park. It will take 30 years for the trees to grow tall enough to provide shade. The gravel site was not level, we had to use our boards and the jacks. The utilities are a little weird. The electrical post is up forward toward the front of the coach. We had to locate the rv a bit fwd into the road to reach the utilities. All the sites are this way so we couldn't ask to be moved. There is a little grass that is struggling but mostly it's gravel and dirt. There are 4 toilets for the 59 sites. The office is a small building with a few supplies. This place is a bare-bones stripper. Good for an overnight in a pinch. We wouldn't stay here again. We camped at Monument Valley KOA in a Motorhome.

Moore's RV Park (formerly Desert Rose Resort), Bloomfield, New Mexico

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Our site was so level we didn't need jacks. There is a little struggling grass but mostly gravel. We had two shade trees on the patio side. The owners are extremely polite and nice and gave us a choice of sites and even walked me out to them. The bathroom and showers were sparkling clean. The store had a few fun interesting items. We stayed 3 nights and we would absolutely stay again. Btw, our GPS gave us the wrong instructions for which way to turn off of Mustang Ave. Watch for the Moore's sign. We camped at Moore's RV Park (formerly Desert Rose Resort) in a Motorhome.

So much to see that is not far away! Navajo Dam, Salmon Ruins and the Aztec Ruins are all well worth it. Stop at the Wines of the San Juan Winery for wine tasting and pick up a bottle of their Sweet Cherry Pie. And excellent after-dinner treat! In Bloomfield, the Farmer's Market Grocery Store has an excellent bakery and meat department!

Trailer Ranch RV Park (55+ Park), Santa Fe, New Mexico

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

The pad on which we parked the rv is concrete. The rest of our site was gravel but there is a greenbelt that runs along the back fence. There are trees for shade. Plenty of space to park the Jeep. A super-friendly employee at the park recommended things to do. They are meticulous about keeping the park raked and clean. We weren't allowed to have a charcoal bbq. Propane was OK. It is monsoon season and the hail broke our bathroom skylight. The RV parts store in town is well equipped and had our skylight in stock. The bathrooms and laundry are clean and have a combo to enter, which I like a lot! You can sit out on lawn chairs in the shade while you wait for your laundry. We would certainly stay here again, esp. since it is an adults-only park. Nice and quiet. We camped at Trailer Ranch RV Park (55+ Park) in a Motorhome.

Taos Valley RV Park & Campground, Taos, New Mexico

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

The site had two concrete strips for your tires and it was fairly level. Trees and shrubs on either side of us but the trees are small so not much shade but we had plenty of space to put out our awning and lay down our patio pad. The bathrooms are clean and nice and have a security code, which I like A LOT. Easy access to many interesting things around Taos. I would stay here again. We camped at Taos Valley RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Oh my God, so much to see! The Taos Pueblo, Hacienda de los Martinez, and the Enchanted Circle (Viet Nam Veterans Memorial) are nearly a must. Allow a few days to see just these things. There are so many fabulous restaurants. Recommend a tiny place called La Cueva for lunch, it is so small you can't find a place to park but it is interesting and cozy and a nice place with umbrella tables in the back. A hole-in-the-wall surprise.

Colorado Springs KOA, Fountain, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $59.00
Overall Rating:

The site we were in was wide and we had a tree for shade and there was a little grass that was struggling to grow. It was more or less level but the site was "outlined" with wooden curbs. You couldn't put down a patio mat. All in all, a nice park. It was a little pricey, I thought, but this was our 2nd stay here and we would stay again. Laramie KOA, Laramie, Wyoming

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

At first, we were put in the row closest to the highway. All night long there was loud traffic, trucks using their jake brakes, etc. We didn't sleep a wink. They were kind enough to move us to the fourth row from the highway. The park was pretty full so there were a lot of rigs between us and the traffic so it was nice and quiet. The sites are gravel with some grass and trees and pretty level. The staff were beyond friendly, nice and accommodating. Special thanks to Cat for moving us! The laundry room was just OK, water leaks, etc., and pricey. $2.50 for a wash and $2.50 for a dry. Overall a nice park. Don't let them put you in the row near the freeway unless it's just an overnight and you can take the traffic racket! We camped at Laramie KOA in a Motorhome.

Rawlins KOA, Rawlins, Wyoming

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

We carry 2 X 6 pieces of wood with us. We used all 10 pieces, some under the tires and some under the jacks. We still couldn't get level. The entire campground is on a slope. We thought about asking for a different site but we saw that everybody else had the same problem we had. It is VERY windy. Do not leave your awning unattended. There are a few trees but there is no shade to speak of. Everything is gravel and half-dead grass. The bathrooms and the laundry room are clean and pretty nice and the cost to do a load of laundry was very reasonable. It is not your typical KOA, the kind I am used to. OK for an overnight. Rock Springs / Green River KOA, Rock Springs, Wyoming

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $61.00
Overall Rating:

We chose a premium site with a fire ring, table, concrete patio and a wooden fence around the patio. This was a good idea because the wind was pretty strong. We heard that the high winds are pretty common. The site was gravel and not level. We needed to use our boards and the jacks. There is a very nice store with a lot of groceries and other supplies as well as clothing. The women's bathroom was sparkling clean, new paint and paneling on the walls both in the john area and the showers. We camped at Rock Springs / Green River KOA in a Motorhome.

Park City RV Resort, Park City, Utah

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

They have a lot of fussy rules about their sites. The premium sites high up on the edge with a view are for RVs 5 years old or newer. The next prized sites were for RVs 10 years old or newer. These two categories have full hook-ups. The "rest of us" were down the hill with electric and water only. Some tent sites have no utilities. Since it was over the 4th holiday, all the campgrounds were full and this was our only choice. Our site was on the lowest level at the base of the foothills next to the river. It was serene and quiet, breezy and lots of grassy areas. The site is gravel and not at all level but the grassy areas and the river are beautiful. Little prairie dogs and pretty birds are everywhere. It was a worrisome not having a sewer hook-up and we were always nervous about our water usage and tank capacity for a 5 day stay. We camped at Park City RV Resort in a Motorhome.

The park was nice and shady. The site was a back-in and fairly level. They put us in site # 39 which is right next to the kids' playground. Kids are noisy and scream a lot, what's up with that? We had a nice stay except for the location of our site. Next time, I would choose a pull-through. They aren't as shady but they are quieter. We camped at Cedar City KOA in a Motorhome.

Grants / Cibola Sands KOA, Grants, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

The sites were level gravel. No grass, a few trees. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They now serve cafe-style food, burgers and such, and will deliver it to your site, if you wish. They also have a small store with some groceries, gifts and rv necessities. The women's bathroom was really nice. Tile floor, wall paneling that kinda looks like marble (but isn't, of course) and a window with lace curtains and flowers. We downgraded the cleanliness rating because my husband told me the men's bathroom needs a serious face-lift. We camped at Grants / Cibola Sands KOA in a Motorhome.
