Highway 6 RV Resort, Houston, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Excellent new park with smooth, level concrete drives and pads encircling a gorgeous pond and fountain. Equally good clubhouse and pool area with exceptional laundry facilities, gym, and showers. Extremely dog friendly with multiple access points to a dog walk. There's also a dog cleaning station which is fantastic! We camped at Highway 6 RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Desert Shadows RV Resort, Phoenix, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This place feels like a real community with its paved streets and park model homes, dog areas, and central social and administrative hub. There's even curbside trash pickup twice a week and deliveries (Fedex, UPS) come right to your door. The spots themselves are gravel-covered and deep enough for our 37 foot coach with as much space for a car or your preferred patio setup. Rates are reasonable. Higher than some nearby parks that are very noticeably inferior but lower than others that are comparable. There's an active social calendar though many activities are geared toward senior-seniors (as opposed to younger retirees) but all are always welcomed and encouraged to participate. We now consider Desert Shadows to be our second home. We love it and will be back again and again. We camped at Desert Shadows RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There's a Costco directly across the street accessible through a gate that requires a fob (small deposit required, but worth it). There are LOTS of excellent places to eat within just a few minutes and even more within a 20 minute drive. You can check out our restaurant reviews here: https://anthonynalli.yelp.com https://www.zomato.com/anthonynalli Hiking trails are all over the place but require a car to get to but the variety is seemingly endless.

City RV Park , Mobile, Alabama

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

While this is a "no frills" kind of campground, we enjoyed our month stay. While the majority of campers here are permanent, it was like it's own little community and everyone welcomed you with a wave. Marlene and Jimmy, the park managers were welcoming, helpful and just really nice folks. There are 3 washers and 3 dryers, a bit expensive at 1.75 each but they were good sized. We used the showers once (last day of stay), they were functional with good pressure and hot water, but while clean, they could definitely use some updating. Great little park for a couple of nights or a couple of weeks. We camped at City RV Park in a Motorhome.

If you go, be sure to take Dover Street NOT Jasper (GPS will direct you to Jasper which is more of a lane than a street and very tight). There's a grocery store walking distance (Winn Dixie).

Stone Creek RV Park, Schertz, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for the month of February. Large park but everyone is super friendly. Spots are a decent size but gravel and not very even. Many activities offered, i.e., Pot lucks, Super Bowl party, painting classes, ice-cream night and bingo. Very dog friendly with two dog runs and agility courses. The hot tub is hot, deep and clean. Pool is not heated and freezing. Wonderful laundry facilities with 10 washers and dryers.

You definitely need a car to get around for shopping and restaurants. We received several deliveries without any issues. My only knock is that while most staff were very friendly, the one woman who manages the front office could learn to smile once in a while. We camped at Stone Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

Harmon's bbq in Cibolo is close to as perfect and perfect can get! Simply delicious! Bill Miller's was a very close second! Plaza Pizza and Wings makes a great New York pizza (4 miles away and they don't deliver). Walmart is close by but don't skip HEB across the street, fantastic selection with comparable prices.

Be sure to visit the Natural Bridge Caverns. Beautiful.

Sandpiper RV Resort, Galveston, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This place is a little gem on the beach. In fact you're so close to the beach that at night you can hear the pleasant sound of the waves in the distance through an open window.

The entire resort is smooth and level concrete with grass patches between the spots. Spots are long and wide. The staff is polite and courteous and the pool and hot tub are spectacular and maintained meticulously.

There is a motel onsite reserved for visitors to guests of the RV resort. In the main building are the showers, laundry, and a common recreation area and kitchen all of which are open and available to guests.

Shopping and restaurants are within walking distance with Galveston attractions within about a 5-10 minute drive.

We've decided to spend 2 months a year here and look forward to our next visit! We camped at Sandpiper RV Resort in a Motorhome.

1000 Islands / Association Island KOA , Henderson Harbor, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

The very best thing about this park is the scenery. No matter where you are, you're waterfront! Our spot was "Lake View" (as opposed to 2 grades of premium lake view) which means we had 2 rows of RVs between us and the lake. But that left PLENTY of lake view and at a much better price than the more expensive premium spots that would have come in at about twice the price.

This was our first KOA and the fairly solid reputation of the chain was maintained here. Lots of activities for adults and kids including a huge inflatable bounce contraption that was actually kind of fun, even for this 48 year old body!

The grounds are very well maintained and clean. They do morning trash pickup site-by-site which I thought was nice, but by design trash bins did not seem readily apparent for self-disposal. When we didn't want to wait for the morning pickup we walked over to the islands trash area. I'm sure there's a reason for this but I don't know what it is.

This was actually the first time we never left the park during our entire stay. Watertown is about 15 miles away and there are a couple of tiny towns a little closer. There's a store on-site with basics as a convenience and there's a pretty good pizza place that regularly delivers to the island.

I would rate it 10/10 if the value was a bit better. KOAs are known to be a little pricy and while there was decent value in our 3rd tier spot, we'd have preferred a premium spot but couldn't stomach the premium price. We will definitely stay here again though! We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Motorhome.

Greenwood Lodge and Campsites, Bennington, Vermont

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is a true mountain getaway. There's trails, swimming, paddleboats, volleyball, and of course the usual camping amenities. In the common area of the office building (where the owners also live upstairs) there are boardgames and brochures for local attractions.

Verizon coverage is weak at best and AT&T is non-existent. Camp wifi is about 1 Mbit when camped very close to the office. Within the office/common area that goes as high a 3 Mbit.

The proprietors are very nice, upbeat and helpful. There is a leash-free area for dogs with access to the swimming pond. It really is a very nice place to camp for a restful, peaceful stay.

Bennington is the nearest town and is about 8 miles away. There is a general store down the access road and across the state highway with some basic provisions.

Driving from the west involves climbing up an 8% grade for about 3 miles. Coming in from the east has several hills over the course of about 30 miles to the interstate, but none are quite as steep. We camped at Greenwood Lodge and Campsites in a Motorhome.

A number of restaurants in Bennington. The Blue Benn Diner has generous portions, priced reasonably but is very small, popular, and busy. Jensen's just a few doors down is a good backup. Their fried chicken is very good.

Fla-Net Park, Flanders, New Jersey

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

Extremely tight spots. Some tough terrain to drive through to get to park and even more to get to your spot. The operator is nice enough and fairly helpful and provides a 10% discount just for asking while not officially part of a discount program.

The amenities seem quite nice though we didn't have an opportunity to use them. It seems popular as it was pretty full.

30A with water was $38/night. 30A with water and sewer was $43/night. 50A with water and sewer was $48, which we paid $43, discounted. In my opinion a little steep for such a cramped, fairly basic space. $10 less across the board and I'd up my rating for value. We camped at Fla-Net Park in a Motorhome.

Hickory Oaks Campground, Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for over a month and were therefore eligible for the very reasonable monthly rates. The campgrounds are rather nice with walking trails, a pond with boats, and even a grass runway where the owner flies his Piper Cub. Pets are welcomed.

The Internet is slowish but better than we've had at other parks. We try not to rely on park Internet though in favor of a cellular hotspot. Showers are clean. The park is well maintained and quiet. We miss having sewer at individual campsites but there is a dump station available and a mobile dump (honey wagon) for a small fee.

The owner and his staff are very accommodating and exceedingly friendly. We're sad to be leaving but will definitely be back! We camped at Hickory Oaks Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Local food is underwhelming on the whole but Glass Nickel pizza is very good and nearby with fast delivery. Niko's Gyros is also very tasty about a 10 minute drive away. They claim to have delivery but it could be a very long wait. Oaks Candies on Main is a bit of an attraction. Tamara's just down the street from Oak's has amazing cupcakes.

Indian Line Campground, Brampton, Ontario

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

I grew up in the area so my visit here in my own RV was a sort of return to my childhood. The park staff is friendly when they're here, so if you're one to require much of a personal touch you might be out of luck.

The park books quite fast with summer workers and regulars. Proximity to Toronto can't be beaten. This is the closest park to the city with access to major highways within minutes.

50 amp service is reliable. Drive-through spots are quite long but drives are shared between 2 campsites. My impression is that it's a touch overpriced but that premium is for the location.

Hiking trails and the conservation area are a treat for the DW and the dogs. I'll be back for sure as it's close to friends and family. We camped at Indian Line Campground in a Motorhome.

Aloha RV Park, Kissimmee, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This was my first experience in any RV park so I don't have a point of reference, but what stood out was the helpfulness of Ray, the park owner. He took us to our spot to examine it prior to escorting us down and even helping us set up.

The spot itself had some exposed tree roots but that didn't pose a problem. The spots are pretty small for a large class A such as our Outlaw, but we managed to get in and out without any trouble.

Neighbors are very friendly. We enjoyed our 3 night stay. Tremendous value with our Passport America 50% off. We camped at Aloha RV Park in a Motorhome.
