Broken Arrow Campground, Custer, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The is mainly a horse camp with 9 barns with stalls for the horses. About 70 percent who stay there have horses but there is very little to no smell from the horses because the owners require that the stalls be cleaned daily. Although the owners have four or five cats I never had any trouble with them and never saw one in the campground, only around the owners house. The horses are not allowed in the campground area even for loading and unloading so the campground is kept very clean. The sites are very long to accommodate the long horse trailers so length isn't a problem. The owners live on site about fifty yards from the campground and are the nicest people that you will ever meet. Some reviews said that the horse people didn't care for the RV people but we didn't have any problem with them at all. In fact all that I met or talked to were very nice. If there is one drawback and it isn't much, there are quite a few house flies around due to all the horses but I have never been any where yet where there wasn't some flies. The only reason that I didn't rate this park a 10 is because the sites are a little bit down hill but after all this is the black hills and the grass area is mainly the part that is slopped. The gravel area where the RV is parked is pretty level. I would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Broken Arrow Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Custer's Gulch RV Park, Custer, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

Overall this is a very nice park especially compared to the other parks in the area. WIFI was fairly good. As others have said the water pressure isn't the best and has a lot of minerals in it causing the water to look yellow but that isn't the parks fault, just the area so bring bottled water with you. Very nice size lots with grass in between sites and a picnic table and fire ring. The owners are very nice and check in was quick and easy. The park is a little over priced but not as bad as some others in the area. I would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Custer's Gulch RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rushmore Shadows RV Resort, Rapid City, South Dakota

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

This is a membership park and if you aren't a member then it is highly over priced but it is a pretty nice park. The new area is close to the highway with all pull through sites. The older area is farther away and more like a campground should be with very little road noise. The manager is excellent but some of the office help isn't the best. They are defiantly more interested in selling memberships and taking care of members than people that just pull in to have a place to stay for a few days. WIFI was good but bring plenty of sewer hose since most of the hookups are a long way off on a lot of the sites. I doubt I would stay here again mainly due to the high price. We camped at Rushmore Shadows RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Storrie Lake State Park, Las Vegas, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

This isn't one of the better state parks that we have stayed in. It needs a little TLC. Grass not mowed, a lot of pot holes on the roads, just routine maintenance and up keep that needs to be done. The only really bad thing is that they close the gates to get into the park at 5:00 so if you are in the park after that time and need to leave for any reason you can't get back into the park unless you want to walk back in. Doesn't make much sense since they have self pay station for after hours visitors. I arrived thirty minutes before closing time and never saw any employees and the office was locked so I couldn't ask why they do that. We just stayed overnight on our way east and it is OK for that but I don't think I would want to stay much longer than that. Considering the price and the fact that there isn't much else in the area I would stay here overnight again. We camped at Storrie Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Cheyenne Mountain State Park, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

The price doesn't include a 7.00 daily park entrance fee unless you have an annual park pass which is 70.00. This is possibly the best state park I have ever visited. All roads and campsites are paved and all campsites have full hookups with 50 amp service. Restrooms, showers, laundry room and visitor center are immaculate. The showers are 1.00 for four minutes which is one drawback if you need to use them. Laundry fees are about standard. 1.25 to 1.75 depending on which machine you use. There are plenty of real nice hiking trails throughout the park. We stayed in site 49 which was a pull through with plenty of room for our 41 foot 5th wheel and truck. It also had a large patio with table and a large campfire ring. It also had an area for a tent if one is needed. Very nice views of the surrounding area and mountains from anywhere in the park. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Elk Meadow Lodge & RV Resort, Estes Park, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

Now I know why this park requires a fifty percent non-refundable deposit when making a reservation. If they required a one day deposit like most other parks, a lot of people would give up their deposit and go elsewhere, including me.

If rough, rutted, dirty dusty roads, very narrow unlevel sites with nothing but weeds between sites is what you are looking for then this is the place for you. It's built into a hillside, the sites bulldozed out with absolutely no improvements or maintaince at all, and they don't seem to care. Don't go by the pictures on their website, it's a lot worse than the pictures. I had to take my dogs out of the park to do their duties because they wouldn't even walk on what they call grass because there isn't any and their dog run is just as bad as the rest of the park.

No charcoal grills allowed which makes no sense since not 25 yards away the tent campers can have an open fire. They will tell you it's because of the smoke from the grill but the last time I looked campfires made smoke too.

We have been camping for 40 years and full timing for the past three and this is the second worst park that we have ever seen. It is way overpriced and if it wasn't one mile from the national park it would either have to make improvements or would be out of business. Calling this park a resort is a joke. I would stay 50 miles away before I would stay at this park again. Just a horrible park. We camped at Elk Meadow Lodge & RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Rifle Gap State Park / Cottonwood Camp Ground, Rifle, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Like the review below we also stayed on the Cedar loop in site # 63 right on the water. The electric is on the wrong side but I had no trouble reaching it, just had to run the cord behind the 5th wheel to plug in. Beautiful area, great state park workers and camp host. really friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again if in the area. The price does not reflect an additional 7.oo daily park pass. King's Riverbend Park, Montrose, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We stopped for an overnight on our way to Estes Park. Not a bad park but overpriced for what it is like a lot of others in this area. We were told that they only had one space left for our 41 foot 5th wheel and it was a back in on the river that we could have for 55.00. I told the camp host that I didn't want to pay 13 dollars extra just to be close to a river and told him that I would pay the 45.00 if he wanted me to stay and he agreed to that. Both spaces on either side of me were vacant all night so I guess the one space that they had left wasn't true. They don't have on office, just a camp host and after we were set up the camp host came by to collect the fee and then we found out that they only take cash or check, no credit or debit cards which wasn't any big deal. Then we were told that they charge for pets and we have two small dogs but since we weren't told that before hand they decided not to charge for the pets which was a good thing because I would have left before I would pay extra for the two small puppies. They don't use any of their services so why should you have to pay for them. I wouldn't mind staying here again but I think next time I would look around and see if there is something better in the area. I will say that the camp hosts were very friendly. We camped at King's Riverbend Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Dolores River Campground, Dolores, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Overall this a very nice campground right by the Delores River. Very nice courtyard with large fire pit for get togethers and very large clubhouse with kitchen also. The owners are a delight to deal with and will help you any way they can. Restrooms remodeled this year and are very nice and up to date. Some of the best I have seen. The camp store is well stocked with a lot of different items that would be of interest. Very family oriented campground. We were there over Labor Day weekend and the owners put on a pig roast with the guest bringing side dishes and it was excellent and is done every year. They also have people that come into the park once a week on different days for wood fired pizza and gyro type food and they are both excellent too. Depending on what part of the park you are in some of the sites are a little close together while others have plenty of room. The owners have a nine year old son that makes fire starters and sells them for twenty five cents each and they work really good. If there is one drawback to this park it is the water pressure which was very low but that may be due to the dry weather in the area this year. The owners live on site year round and maintain the park in excellent condition. We will definitely stay here again when in the area. This is the best park in the town of Delores. We camped at Dolores River Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Westerly RV Park, Durango, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

Small older park, close sites, no restrooms or showers, hook-up are in a bad position, depending on the site, sometime on the wrong side of your rv. Way over priced for what you get but a lot of parks in this area are the same way. This was my fourth choice for a place to stay in the area and the only reason that I stayed here was that the other parks were full. If I had a choice I wouldn't stay here again. The so called dog run had weeds about three feet tall and hadn't been mowed for a long time. Not a place you would want to take you pet. The owner is very friendly and helpful but it seems like he is just biding his time and collecting money and for the amount they charge it is way overpriced. Stay somewhere else if you have a choice. We camped at Westerly RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Peacock Meadows Riverside RV Park, South Fork, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

This park will be a very nice park once they have been opened longer and have more time to improve the sites some. It is only one year old so there isn't much grass between the sites and the trees are real small so there isn't any shade. The managers were easy to deal with although I get the feeling that if something happened and you had to cancel a reservation you would still lose your deposit which almost happened to me since we had some truck problems and I didn't get there until a day after my reservation was supposed to start. I would probably stay here again if in the area. We camped at Peacock Meadows Riverside RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a very nice State Park about three miles west of the town on Highway 160. Large enough pull through sites for my 41 foot 5th wheel. Overall Rating:

This is by far the best park in the Amarillo area, about ten miles west of town. Very friendly staff, large rv sites with concrete pads and patios. The roads are all blacktop and easy to navigate. Private individual restrooms with showers are spotless. Although the clubhouse, pool and spa were not open they looked to be very nice and large. Grass dog walk was very nice too. This is the second time we have stayed at this park and it is probably the best park in Santa Fe. Very friendly staff. A little over priced for what it is, especially when they add a six dollar motel tax to the bill but everything in Santa Fe seems to be a little more expensive than normal.
