Compass RV Park (formerly Indian Forest Campground), St Augustine, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice for our stay. $65 is price per day at the weekly rate. Guitarist get together Saturday nights. 15 minutes into St Augustine.

Tip: new gate uses card for entry 24x7. Being new it is stupid in design,

the sensor for the card is on the office building just in front of the line of

rigs checking in. When you get home either wait for 200 feet of rigs in a line or go around the office on the left, park your car, get out and walk back to the sensor, trip the gate, then walk back to your car, get in, drive 100 yards to the gate... then drive through, if the first rig hasn't tripped

it to go down again. Keystone Cops stuff. We camped at Compass RV Park (formerly Indian Forest Campground) in a Motorhome.

St Aug is a real treat, a two day town. Parking is a problem, plan in advance

or endlessly circle around. In early December you can get to most sites of interest.

Levi Jackson State Park, London, Kentucky

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We've stayed in several KY state parks and find all to be satisfactory,
none outstanding. $40 bought us a site that is steeply (4 blocks) canted
right to left and down in the back. No dump at site.

No cable, no OTA. Tengo capped at 70kB for $4 a day (yes, Kilobytes).
Nice and quiet, mostly folks from the surrounding area use this.
Has a pool for more money, putt-putt golf for more money...

There is a train in the distance, and no road noise. ATVs roam day and night.

So, nice quiet setting with unlevel sites and charges for everything except
the push button showers and toilets after you pay $40 a day. We camped at Levi Jackson State Park in a Motorhome.

Big Red Barn RV Park, Carthage, Missouri

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Older park layout so close to your neighbor. Sites are level gravel, roads paved. Showers/restroom clean and tidy, getting a bit dated. Good privacy. Huge cable selection. Really good wifi .

Park is a little ways out of Carthage but most important, no train racket or highway sizzle. This being early fall, the cicadas sing at dusk. Crickets lulled us to sleep.

Stop by for morning coffee and chat with the owner on the front porch. We camped at Big Red Barn RV Park in a Motorhome.

Turkey Creek RV Village - Escapees Rainbow Park, Hollister, Missouri

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

No cable TV at all, a few channels over the air. Tengo (website just says "WIFI", with no clue that Tengo costs $30+ a month). Played that game before, Tengo always sucks. 4G VZ and good AT&T voice. Park is south of the bridge out of town and quiet. No shuttles. No pool. Do have horseshoes. No weekly or daily activities, unlike ALL other Escapees parks we've been in. Labor day meal. Ice cream social on Sunday. $325 + taxes is the Escapees monthly rate. Short sites, on arrival there was a pick-up in our spot. Site required blocks. Clean electric, dump at site. No info on shows from office other than slicks. We were told to call a sales service bureau. No picnic table, promptly delivered when we asked for one. Showers and restrooms nice and clean.

For Branson, a good deal on the monthly rate, if you don't need TV or

Internet access. We camped at Turkey Creek RV Village - Escapees Rainbow Park in a Motorhome.

Fossil Valley RV Park, Vernal, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Easy access, fresh unlevel gravel sites, paved roads.

You will pay 25 cents for each 1 1/2 minutes of water in the shower.

Meaning, by the time it's hot and you do your thing, a buck and a half.

A Chisel. We camped at Fossil Valley RV Park in a Motorhome.

Boise Riverside RV Park, Boise, Idaho

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

As mentioned, the positive is access to the hiking greenbelt. WiFi is next to useless. VZ jetpack worked well. Decent ATT cell.
Tightest spot we have seen in two years of full time. Slides missed by 6 inches. Had to duck under to get to electric. No shade. No table.
Rate was the weekly, no "clubs" discounts.
Lots of dust and dirt, even without a breeze (it was 90 degrees).
Would go out to Caldwell next time. We camped at Boise Riverside RV Park in a Motorhome.

San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA, Petaluma, California

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

Extended stay, over two months. This park is the best located to get

into San Francisco, though 45 minutes north in Marin County.

Well run KOA takes queue from the franchise with excellent pool,

clean restrooms and showers. Wifi more than adequate in off peak.

Operates tour buses into the city. Though SF has restricted access almost

to the silly side (Lombard St.? That's the squiggly 6 blocks away) we

enjoyed the tour!

Like so many other resorts, this one has two distinct personalities, packed

on weekends with gobs of family planned activities, half empty and quiet

during the week.

Park continues to expand with more cabin and tent sites.

Price is high, as are all good things. For a Bay Area visit, this is the best

you can get. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Rancho Sedona RV Park, Sedona, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $69.00
Overall Rating:

The park is located at the southern end of the Sedona main drag.

You can easily walk to Tlaquepaque Shopping Center and Rincon Restaurant. The park is in heavy shade, and abuts a creek.

As mentioned, the only park that is even close to town.

We've stayed several times, and would highly recommend.

Homolovi Ruins State Park, Winslow, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice park, great park hosts.

This park was closed for a few years, recently reopened.

The restroom/showers are quite dated, but the hosts keep

'em very clean. Sites are far apart.

Removed from highway 20 about 2 miles, you can see it but not hear it.

Easy into Winslow, which is about 1 full day to tour.

Site was macadam, almost level.

This park has the reputation of the quietest in the AZ system.

Stargazing is 10+. Highly recommend. We camped at Homolovi Ruins State Park in a Motorhome.

Trailer Village (Concessionnaire Operated), Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This RV park is run by a concessioner, not the NPS. Built up a hill, nearly everybody had levellers in use.

There is no shower in this park. You can walk/drive over to the NPS Mather CG 1/2 mile away for that.

WiFi is pokey, at least from the top of the park.

Restrooms are really kept nice and clean.

Digital cable, about 50 channels, was also really good.

So, it's in the National Park, a short walk or shuttle bus ride to Mather Point.

No showers, pokey WiFi, 6. We camped at Trailer Village (Concessionnaire Operated) in a Motorhome.

Valley of Fires Recreation Area (BLM), Carrizozo, New Mexico

Date of Stay: March, 2015 - $9.00
Overall Rating:

This is a gem of a camp, just east of the lava field on a spit

of older rock. Beautiful walks in the field, and a high point in the camp with a 360 view.

Generously spaced, along one road. Quiet. Great stargazing!

Despite Web lies, the facility is nice, covered picnic tables, and hot

showers!
