Wacky West Travel Park, Valentine, Nebraska

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

A very small "mom & pop" run place. Owners were very nice and helpful. Campground is small, no pool & an outdated playground. Other than that, just a great place to stop for a few days while passing through. Very close to town with a "rail trail" walking/biking trail right through town which features usual small town shops and eateries. Free cable (with owner supplied box), no Sprint cell service & no WiFi. We camped at Wacky West Travel Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rushmore Shadows RV Resort, Rapid City, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This resort is a great place from which to explore the Black Hills region of South Dakota. The staff was very friendly & informative. The grounds were well maintained & the pool was adequate & clean. The pool deck area is a little cramped & surrounded by a high fence. There were basketball court & horseshoe pits. No Sprint cell service (roaming only). We camped at Rushmore Shadows RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Cutty's Okoboji Resort Club, Spirit Lake, Iowa

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very large gated/guarded RESORT featuring camping, hotel rooms, snack bar/internet lounge, club room, indoor pool, playground, mini golf, fishing pond with paddle boat rentals, picnic pavilions & storm shelters. The staff is fairly friendly (although all business) & the grounds very well maintained. The only drawback is the water supply is not good. Very rusty so bring your own for drinking or they have a Culligan refill station in the club house for $.50/gal. They even pick up your trash at your site. There are quite a few seasonal residence & a lot of boats at sites and in storage/parking areas. Nearby Spirit Lake is a water sports haven so, bring your boats! We camped at Cutty's Okoboji Resort Club in a Fifth Wheel.

Lake Shore RV Resort, Oelwein, Iowa

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very clean and well maintained park. We were here midweek and not much going on. There are a majority of very well maintained seasonal rigs here but they must only come on weekends, as it was very quiet during our stay. The laundry room/book exchange is clean. The bathroom/showers are very clean. There were activities listed for the weekend posted on the message board but, nothing during the week (virtually no one here anyway). We did have a couple conversations with the owners and they seemed nice and accommodating enough but, we did get the impression that they do run "a tight ship"! Although there is no pool, the lake has a beach area, sand volleyball, mini golf, playground and canoes & paddleboats. We camped at Lake Shore RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Typical mid-west city of Oelwein is 3 miles away with nice small town shops and eateries. A large Amish farm community is nearby where you can get most anything Amish made from baked goods, quilts to furniture. The movie site for "Field of Dreams" is about an hour away. A nine hole golf course next to the campground is currently closed and is for sale but, there are other courses close by.

Sunset Lakes RV Resort, Hillsdale, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice park. Several sections provide a variety of site options from tent sites to spacious RV sites of grass or concrete. Amenities are numerous with club house/pool, restaurant, coffee bar, arcade, tennis courts, mini golf etc. Everything is centrally located at or near the clubhouse/pool building so, that is a plus. The pool & pool deck are very large and clean with lounges & table/chairs w/umbrellas. There are several ponds for fishing, paddle boats and picnic pavilions. They also allow "day use" passes for a fee if you're not camping. We camped at Sunset Lakes RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Woodhaven Lakes, Sublette, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very large (1,700 acres) with over 1,000 sites. It is also self contained, including a uniformed & mobile security force, True Value Hardware store complete with gas, diesel & propane. It has hiking/biking/walking trails, 2 outdoor pools w/snack bars & life guards, lake & beach area, paddle boats & canoes, rec center with ice cream, complete food market, pizza, deli, bait shop & bank! The common areas, roadways, bath houses, and other buildings are very well maintained. However, the majority of the sites are member owned and tend to degrade the beauty of this property. There are a lot more than just a few owner sites that are in complete disrepair, abandoned, or unmaintained. There were several "leaning" RVs, old decks, haphazardly constructed out buildings and high grass. The price reflects Coast to Coast discount. Accordingly, the Coast to Coast web site indicates 12-18 sites available to "outsiders". We were given a horseshoe shaped pull-through site plenty long enough for everything and more. The only problem with the site is, we couldn't pull out of it due to bushes and a large tree with a truck and 40' 5er. The site also featured 2 sewer connections so you could use the site from either direction, just make sure you have extra water hose and a long enough electrical cord also. The stone fire ring and picnic table (fairly new & very heavy) were located on the backside of the site facing a fence and farm field. Not sure what the other sites made available to Coast to Coast were like or located. We camped at Woodhaven Lakes in a Fifth Wheel.

Pla-Mor Campground, Inc., Bremen, Indiana

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very neat large park. Although the don't take any discounts, their rates are very reasonable. We had a FHU 30 amp site for $30 (50 amp is just a couple $$ more). There is a swimming pond, fishing pond, golf driving range, mini golf range & playground. Word is, that they are breaking ground for a new pool sometime during the week of June 4th & it should be completed in about 12 weeks. The office/store/rec room/snack bar are all in one building. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. We had stayed 2 nights & were in the area for some RV repairs and needed to return to the park after learning that a major part needed to be painted first. When I went back to the office, there was no problem. Staff just said go back to our original spot and settle up after we find out when to return to the repair facility. That is real friendly customer orientated service. We usually try to stick to our discounted parks such as Coast to Coast, Thousand Trails, Passport America etc. but, would NOT hesitate returning to this park if/whenever we are in the area again. We camped at Pla-Mor Campground, Inc. in a Fifth Wheel.

Muscatatuck Park, North Vernon, Indiana

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

This is a County Park with only the first 8 sites as FHU pull thru's. The entire park has only 30 amp service & the rest of the sites after #8 are water/electric only. The park office & manager are not always open. Manager can be somewhere in the park at any given time. There is a camp host at site #9 but, if you're a first timer (like we were), you won't know this. We were lucky as we were just pulling into the parking lot, the camp host was just driving out, there was no one in the office. He escorted us to the entrance & campground. Also, DO NOT enter the park from State Route 7. The roadway from there into the camping area is very steep, narrow & winding. Enter from S. Gumm Street (residential), follow signs to the campground & site #9 to find the camp host (if you don't already know your site number). Once set up, you will find a very quiet, serine campground that is very well maintained. There is lots of playground space but, no pool or close swimming opportunities. Sprint cell service is "OK" and OTA Tv is available from the Louisville, Ky area & satellite reception is easy from the first 8 sites, the rest are in the woods. We camped at Muscatatuck Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed during Memorial Day weekend. There were numerous activities planned for adults and kids. Live band on Saturday night & a memorial service on Monday to honor our service men & women. Park staff was very friendly and we had our choice of sites which we were escorted to, to make sure we chose one that would work. The pool, playground, common areas are clean and well maintained. Bee's RV Resort, Clermont, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Rate reflects Coast to Coast. Park is old with a majority of permanent/seasonal residents. It is clean but, roadways are paved and narrow. Although navigatable, backing into some sites can present a challenge fo larger rigs. We were givel a site in a "newer section" which had more room to maneuver. Pool, laundry room were clean & reaonably priced. No WiFi at sites but, Sprint cell service was good. We camped at Bee's RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Pine Lake RV Park, Fountain, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

This Thousand Trails park is average. There are seasonal & it appears, some "long term" residents. Since it is the off season, there were no activities and the office had a few morning & afternoon hours. The interior roads were paved in the FHU area for the larger rigs & grass/sand in the partial hook-up area. All sites are fairly level sand/grass/packed gravel. Power was steady, water pressure very low to a trickle at times. RV washing is available for a $10 fee. We camped at Pine Lake RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Orlando RV Resort (Thousand Trails), Clermont, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

This Thousand Trails property is very large & clean. Our site was old blacktop and level enough. Other sites we observed were dirt, sand and in some cases broken pavement. Some sites had newer concrete but, I believe they are seasonal private sites. Pools (2), clubhouse, store are very large, clean and well maintained/stocked. The roads are very easy to navigate & angled so entry/exit is easy. There is a nature trail, lake & very nice cabins and an on site restaurant/snack bar. Since we arrived after the "peak season" it was quite quiet and organised activities were minimal during our 2 week stay. We would stay again. Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, Jacksonville, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is a city owned rustic camping facility & as such the roads although paved, are narrow, twisty, broken pavement and have some very tight turns. However, with some far sighted planning, I was able to negotiate the roads with no problems with our 40' fifth wheel (and we were about as deep in the park as you can get). When making reservations, the max length is 45' and in most cases, that is pretty "spot on". I chose a 40' site and true to form the site was about 45' long and I had to park the truck sideways in front of the 5er with no room to open the doors on one side. All sites are mostly shaded with overhanging tree limbs & spanish moss making it kinda "dirty" if staying for any length of time. Security is good (saw City Police drive through). Beach access has several entrances (9) along the main drive into the park and campground. All in all, it was very convenient to beach, shopping, eating & services you would need. We would camp there again. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The Oaks at Point South, Yemassee, South Carolina

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

This rustic facility is dated and needs "sprucing up". Not much grass, lots of muddy spots left over after a rain, tree roots encroaching into patio area of sites, fallen tree branches & debris litter the sites. During our 5 day stay, we never saw any maintenance personnel on the grounds. The office staff was very nice & on top of the registration process. Although we had a pull through site, I needed to back out of the site due to 3 trees situated across from and on either side of the site exit that made pulling straight out impossible. We camped at The Oaks at Point South in a Fifth Wheel.
