Fort Hood BLORA Rec Area (Military FamCamp), Fort Hood Army Post, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed on the Deer Park loop which has 28 campsites. Although there are full hookups, we only got 30-amp and water hookups. Several trailers were parked at FHU sites but no one was there the entire week we were there. The Nature in Lights Christmas lights display was going on and was very pretty to see. There is no WiFi. The lake water was very high and had recently flooded the area. The concrete pad was narrow and had sharp drop off at the edges. The trees were too close to the campsite and needed to have branches trimmed back. Security patrols the area regularly. We camped at Fort Hood BLORA Rec Area (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

McKinney Falls State Park, Austin, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Beware of the pull thru sites. They have a mean bend that prevents a fifth wheel from maneuvering in them. There are many trees so watch out for overhanging branches. The 30-amp electric and water hookups worked fine. The dump station was easy to use. Watch out for a coyote in the campground. The campground is very nice and the trail along the falls is pleasant. The campground phone was out of order and the staff seemed quite happy about it. There is no WiFi. The fire ring and picnic tables are at a ridiculous distance at the back of the campsite. We camped at McKinney Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Corpus Christi RV Park FamCamp (formerly Shields Park NAS Recreation A, Corpus Christi, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

When we called to make a reservation at Campground B, Paul told us sites were assigned upon arrival. Yet when we checked in, the gal at the counter told us we had been assigned to Campground A. She said Campground B was booked for the weekend. We were given 5 sites to choose from in A. The first had some kind of construction going on. The next two were under water (thanks to heavy rains). The third had a driveway that was too narrow to get into. The last had a low hanging tree. We wound up backing in at an angle to avoid the low hanging branches, putting us on the soft grass. The electric stanchion was very far in back of the site. Walking around Campground B over the weekend, we noted 6 empty sites on Saturday and 8 on Sunday. It seems like they don't know how to manage their reservation system. NAS-CCAD seems to be on the bottom of the funding list. There were potholed roads, broken sidewalks, abandoned dog park, neglected playing field, rusty and broken storage units, and a crumbling Seawall - to name just a few issues. Campground A seems to be left to devolve on its own. Campground B is newer with concrete pads and reasonably placed hookups. The laundry was free. Hookups worked fine. WiFi was excellent. The base is small and the campground is close to the NEX and commissary. We camped at Corpus Christi RV Park FamCamp (formerly Shields Park NAS Recreation A in a Fifth Wheel.

Galveston Island State Park, Galveston, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Electric and water hookups worked fine. Dump station had easy access. There is a beach side and a bayside campground the bayside is so much nicer. You can back right up to the water where the dunes block you view of the water on the beach side. No WiFi but tv signals were adequate. Nearby beach town of Galveston was fun. We camped at Galveston Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rainbow's End - Escapees Rainbow Park, Livingston, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

All hookups worked well. The WiFi sucked even tho I paid for it. It just never worked. The satellite got good reception. The campground is large and mature but well kept. There are many amenities to enjoy. There were no doggie bags at the run even tho they advertised them as available. We camped at Rainbow's End - Escapees Rainbow Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Bushman's RV Park AKA Bushman's Camp, Bullard, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

The interior roads and campsites are concrete. Grass is lush and well kept. A small pond warns of an alligator sighting and advises not to go in the water. We discovered coyotes have been eating the ducks. A ranch next door has cattle lazily grazing all day long. All hookups worked fine. There is a very nice meeting room available. The pool and hot tub liked nice but we didn't go in. Someone said the hot tub was not hot. The laundry room is nice but hit or miss. Every time we went in, there was someone doing sheets and linens from a B&B. All the machines were taken by that business. The bathrooms and showers liked very nice. Someone was always working hard every day to clean the area. There are five small dog runs to use. The WiFi worked pretty well. More people means slower performance. All in all, this was a very nice campground. The staff are very friendly and industrious. We camped at Bushman's RV Park AKA Bushman's Camp in a Fifth Wheel.

Shepherd AFB Recreation Annex (Military FamCamp), Whitesboro, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is a bit off the beaten path (8 miles from the main Hwy) down narrow residential roads. Go slow. The campground itself was very nice. FHUs worked fine but there is no WiFi or OTA tv reception. The Dish satellite worked fine as did our cell phone. The lake is beautiful. Definitely a place for folks who enjoy boating and fishing. The area was developed by the ACOE then turned over to the military in the 1950s. Whatever damage they suffered from flooding has been repaired. We camped at Shepherd AFB Recreation Annex (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

McConnell AFB Famcamp (Military FamCamp), McConnell AFB, Kansas

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Do NOT follow your GPS to this base. It will try to put you through a closed area. Use the Arnold Gate. There are ten spaces in a row next to two catch-and-release ponds. A tornado shelter sits at either end of the row. Free laundry is available with two washers and two dryers. FHUs worked fine. Grass was cut and the area was clean. There is an abandoned golf course next to the campground (no golf course on a military base/post??). You check in at the Inn then drive to the campground. We never saw anyone from the ODR while here for two nights. Wichita has lots to see. We camped at McConnell AFB Famcamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Riverside Campground & RV Park, Belle Fourche, South Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

$40 a night seemed high for what you got. Full hookups and decent WiFi. Never saw anyone in the office/house. You have to call and leave a message and someone will call back. The campground was old and run down. The bathrooms might have been clean but with the peeling paint and rusty pipes, you couldn't be sure. The campsites used to be gravel but are now mostly grass. When we came out of our door, the neighbor's sewer connection was right there. We camped at Riverside Campground & RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

East Totten Trail Campground, Riverdale, North Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $9.00
Overall Rating:

This was a lovely campground. There is no office. You make reservations online. Lake Sakakawea is the 3rd largest reservoir in the U.S. The Garrison Dam is a 2-1/2 mile long earthen dam. The sites are roomy. We had a site right on the lake shore with a full unobstructed view of the water outside our window. There are two loops. One has electric with water fill points and a dump station. The other has no facilities. There is no bathroom. Just two pit toilets. The town of Garrison is cute. There is not much to see in the area but the beauty of nature is everywhere. We camped at East Totten Trail Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Grand Forks AFB (Military FamCamp), Grand Forks, North Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived on a Saturday and had to use the main gate as the commercial entrance was closed. Outdoor Rec is only open 8-12 on Saturday so we missed the office. A box on the bathhouse wall offers info and an envelope to put your payment. Be sure to read the ENTIRE posting. Hubby read a $20 fee, which we paid. I later read the posting and found it would have been $16 since we have the Senior Pass. Oh, well. Hookups worked fine. There were only 4 other campers in the park. There is a feeling of remoteness since there is nothing around. It was a good overnight stop or longer for someone who wants to decompress and get away from it all. There is no WiFi. We camped at Grand Forks AFB (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Governors' RV Park and Campground, Casselton, North Dakota

Governors Drive RV Park is behind the Days Inn. You check in at the hotel desk. They have a "water park" (but not very large) and you can use the pool at no cost. We also got a coupon for a discount on breakfast. The full hookups worked fine. Campsites are gravel. Some have picnic tables; we had none. River Terrace Park, Monticello, Minnesota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

All hookups worked fine. The WiFi was weak. The site was flat and easy pull through. Our site was roomy. There is a mix of permanent, seasonal, and transient campers. The campground sits right next to the Mississippi River with a deck to sit on and contemplate the issues of our time. So what if the office is in back of the campground. Signs bring you right to it. So what if the office is in the owner's home. He can still conduct business just as well as in a separate building. We were here for 17 days. Not a day went by that there wasn't someone out and about working around the campground. It is very well kept and clean. There's even a dog area (but could use a more sturdy fence). We would definitely stay here again. We camped at River Terrace Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Viking Village Campground & Resort, Stoughton, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

The cost was high given what you got. There was no WiFi and no cable tv. There wasn't even a sign on the roadway with the name of the campground. The sites were spacious although the trees were very close and required careful maneuvering in and out of the space. There was no dog area. The hookups worked fine. The two teenage girls behind the counter gave minimal information and had to be pumped for basic information. They handed out no paperwork at all - no rules, no map, etc. Two washers and two dryers were $1.00 each. There was a pool and putt putt golf available.
