Casey's Socorro RV Park, Socorro, New Mexico

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Although it is a little disconcerting to step inside a beauty salon to register for a campsite, the host was pleasant and efficient. Electric and water hookups worked fine, although we had to disconnect at night because the temperature dropped to 27 degrees. Brrrrrrr! The dump station was easy to use. The campground was easy to get to from I-25. Go in the entrance marked with the beauty salon, not the RV Park. Even though our RV was bigger than the campsite, the interior roadways were wide and cars could easily get around us. We camped at Casey's Socorro RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Elks Lodge 969 (Members Only), Roswell, New Mexico

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This was a great stop. There are 3 rows of campsites in the back of the lodge. There is a mountain in the backdrop and some of the most gorgeous sunrises and sunsets around. Electric and water hookups worked fine. Easy access dump station is in front of the lodge. The lodge is uber friendly to visiting Elks. They have a very large menu to select from, a full bar, and a casino room. They were having karaoke night and the place was packed. We camped at Elks Lodge 969 (Members Only) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Roswell likes to display its alien association. Many stores have statues or paintings on their buildings. Even the street lights have alien faces. The UFO museum is worth a look.

Dyess AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp), Abilene, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice campground. There are no trees but the sites are laid out in easy in and out fashion (most are pull through). The campground is close to Outdoor Recreation and the camper storage area. All hookups worked fine. The Wifi is excellent. The ladies bathroom had 2 stalls and two large shower stalls with locker space. The men's room had one stall and one urinal with the same large shower area. The cable tv worked fine. The laundry room was sufficient. The campground is fairly new. Our charcoal grill had not even been used. There was parking space at the campsite to fit our tow vehicle. The $35 fee is high for a military campground (most are $20). We camped at Dyess AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Riverview Campground, Waco, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

The interior roads need attention. The site was gravel. No picnic table or fire ring. Full hookups worked fine. The cable TV and WiFi were excellent. The laundry room had 4 dryers and 4 washers. The room was clean and all but one dryer worked fine. The pool looked nice but was closed because we were here off season. There was a large dog run area that was nice to have. We camped at Riverview Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Bayou Segnette State Park, Westwego, Louisiana

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

This was a very nice campground. Sites are very large and level with asphalt pads. The bathrooms were neat and clean. There are two washers and dryers in each of the two bathhouses that are free (no cost) that worked just fine. The Wifi was poor. It just wouldn't connect. And the mosquitos were fierce. The park appears to have been built first, then the campground was added. There is no place to pull over to stop and go into the office. A sign telling you where to park would be very helpful. We registered online for site C1055. There is no 1055. We parked in 55 then called the office to be sure we were in the right place. The clerk chastised us for not registering first and told us to come back to the office (don't let functionality get in the way of the rules). Overall, though, this was a very nice campground and we would camp here again. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Millwood State Park, Ashdown, Arkansas

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice park. Lots of pine trees, spacious campsites, nicely paved interior roadways as well as the sites. The restroom included a shower and was immaculate. If you love fishing, there is a marina on Millwood Lake. The only reason I didn't give this campground a 10 was because they don't offer Wifi or have a laundry. As a full-timer, these are very important to us. Otherwise this is the perfect place to get away from it all. We camped at Millwood State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

St. Louis RV Park, St. Louis, Missouri

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

This is a one-city block paved parking lot with stanchions for electric and water. A fence completely encloses the park with heavy traffic on two sides. A blighted neighborhood stands just on the edge of the property. Go one way, you're in the slums. Go the other way, and you're in St. Louis. Many warehouses have been converted to apartments/condos while others sit empty and dilapidated. The owners stopped giving discounts to military and other club members. With tax, it cost over $53 a night. There are only 54 sites here, not 110. There is a pool and laundry room, neither of which we used (pool was empty). All hookups worked well. The wifi dropped a lot but when it worked, it was good. We camped at St. Louis RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Double J Campground and RV Park, Chatham, Illinois

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This campground has just about everything you could want - easy on and off I-55, pull through gravel sites, good interior roadways, recreation area with lots of stuff to do, pool, dog walk area, laundry, and camp store. It is close to all the sights in Springfield. The staff was super friendly and helpful. My only (silly) complaint was that the wifi didn't always work. Given everything else this campground had to offer, I'd say it was one of the best we've stayed in during our four years of full time travel around the U.S. I'll not only be back when in the area, I'd opt to live here if I could!! We camped at Double J Campground and RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Great Lakes Naval Base Training Center (Military FamCamp), Naval Station Great Lakes, Illinois

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

This is a lovely campground right on the shore of Lake Michigan but sorely neglected. Stuff posted on the bulletin board was over two years old. Website says they only have one 50-amp site; all 20 sites have 50 amp service. The place to get fresh water for your onboard tanks is a squeeze between a building and fence and overhead wires. The dump station also required some extra maneuvering to get into. The sites need are concrete but the road is gravel and there are water issues - there are several pallets around for campers to stand on when it rains and leaves big puddles. The hotel clerk where you check in was argumentative and gave very poor directions. On a positive note, the electric hookup worked fine and the wifi was good most of the time. MWR activities (ITT, movies, bowling, eateries, etc) are nice and close to the campground. Chicago was about a half hour away (an hour during rush hour). We camped at Great Lakes Naval Base Training Center (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Shamrock Park, Berrien Springs, Michigan

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

I rated Shamrock Park a 9 out of 10 because it did not have laundry facilities. Otherwise, this is an excellent campground. The sites were spacious, there was a fire ring and picnic table, the area had plenty of grass and trees, all hookups worked fine, and the WiFi was good (it worked best during the day, not so much at night when everyone started using it). Interior roads were paved and campsites were gravel and level. We would certainly stay here again. We camped at Shamrock Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Maple Lakes Recreational Park, Seville, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

The campground is convenient to the interstate and set on rolling hills. The campsites are very narrow, uneven and covered with stone. There were two trees on either side of our site that were too close. Limbs had been cut off but were still way too close. Maneuvering into the site was a challenge. Hookups all worked fine. There was no wifi at our site. There was a pool but we did not use it. They were working on the roadways, paving and filling holes. We camped at Maple Lakes Recreational Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Wright-Patt FamCamp at Bass Lake (Military FamCamp), Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

This was a small but pleasant campground. Sites are aligned in three rows and are a cozy fit. There is a nice lake to fish and boat in and lots of grassy area to walk the dog. Our only complaint was that the closest gate (26A) is not open after hours, weekends, or holidays. The main gate (12A) that allstays map brings you to is the furthest point from the campground. Add winding roads and infrequent signage and things get exciting. Ask the gate guard for a map and directions. We camped at Wright-Patt FamCamp at Bass Lake (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Daytona Beach RV Resort, Port Orange, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Our site was at the back of the campground on a grass plot with a concrete patio. Hookups worked fine and the wifi was excellent. There is only one dumpster for the entire campground tucked off in a corner. The clerk who checked us in was efficient but not friendly. There was a mistake with the nightly charge and she adjusted it when I asked about it without any problem. There is really no area to walk the dog. There was a very nice looking pool but we did not use it. The bathroom was clean and big. Showers were tiled and cared for. We camped at Daytona Beach RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

We could not find anywhere to pay if the lodge wasn't open. There was a group of campers who had just come from a rally who had been convinced by the Grand Ruler to join the Elks. About 50 people followed him back to Wilcox lodge where they were inducted. Water and 30-amp electric worked fine. There is no wifi in the camping area. This is a convenient stop off the interstate. Hacienda RV Resort, Las Cruces, New Mexico

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Man! These folks have check in down to a science. Its location alongside the interstate makes it a popular stop over. We Watched RVs roll in by the dozens starting around noon and continuing until about 6 p.m. We timed a motor home on how fast it was processed. From the time he rolled in and left to park, it was 3 minutes. The campground has many sites and a large turnover. The sites are clean and gravel. All hookups worked fine. The laundry room and restrooms were immaculate. The store in the office area had lots of souvenirs. The lounge area is very attractive and the staff is very friendly. The wifi was inconsistent. There is a great dog run on the back of the property. We camped at Hacienda RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
