Bushman's RV Park AKA Bushman's Camp, Bullard, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

The interior roads and campsites are concrete. Grass is lush and well kept. A small pond warns of an alligator sighting and advises not to go in the water. We discovered coyotes have been eating the ducks. A ranch next door has cattle lazily grazing all day long. All hookups worked fine. There is a very nice meeting room available. The pool and hot tub liked nice but we didn't go in. Someone said the hot tub was not hot. The laundry room is nice but hit or miss. Every time we went in, there was someone doing sheets and linens from a B&B. All the machines were taken by that business. The bathrooms and showers liked very nice. Someone was always working hard every day to clean the area. There are five small dog runs to use. The WiFi worked pretty well. More people means slower performance. All in all, this was a very nice campground. The staff are very friendly and industrious. We camped at Bushman's RV Park AKA Bushman's Camp in a Fifth Wheel.

Shepherd AFB Recreation Annex (Military FamCamp), Whitesboro, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is a bit off the beaten path (8 miles from the main Hwy) down narrow residential roads. Go slow. The campground itself was very nice. FHUs worked fine but there is no WiFi or OTA tv reception. The Dish satellite worked fine as did our cell phone. The lake is beautiful. Definitely a place for folks who enjoy boating and fishing. The area was developed by the ACOE then turned over to the military in the 1950s. Whatever damage they suffered from flooding has been repaired. We camped at Shepherd AFB Recreation Annex (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

McConnell AFB Famcamp (Military FamCamp), McConnell AFB, Kansas

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Do NOT follow your GPS to this base. It will try to put you through a closed area. Use the Arnold Gate. There are ten spaces in a row next to two catch-and-release ponds. A tornado shelter sits at either end of the row. Free laundry is available with two washers and two dryers. FHUs worked fine. Grass was cut and the area was clean. There is an abandoned golf course next to the campground (no golf course on a military base/post??). You check in at the Inn then drive to the campground. We never saw anyone from the ODR while here for two nights. Wichita has lots to see. We camped at McConnell AFB Famcamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Interior roads and campsites are concrete. FHUs all worked fine. Lots of pull throughs. WiFi was good. Some campers are long term but their sites are well kept and not overflowing with stuff. Campground is gated and locked at night. We camped at Deer Creek Valley RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Riverside Campground & RV Park, Belle Fourche, South Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

$40 a night seemed high for what you got. Full hookups and decent WiFi. Never saw anyone in the office/house. You have to call and leave a message and someone will call back. The campground was old and run down. The bathrooms might have been clean but with the peeling paint and rusty pipes, you couldn't be sure. The campsites used to be gravel but are now mostly grass. When we came out of our door, the neighbor's sewer connection was right there. We camped at Riverside Campground & RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

East Totten Trail Campground, Riverdale, North Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $9.00
Overall Rating:

This was a lovely campground. There is no office. You make reservations online. Lake Sakakawea is the 3rd largest reservoir in the U.S. The Garrison Dam is a 2-1/2 mile long earthen dam. The sites are roomy. We had a site right on the lake shore with a full unobstructed view of the water outside our window. There are two loops. One has electric with water fill points and a dump station. The other has no facilities. There is no bathroom. Just two pit toilets. The town of Garrison is cute. There is not much to see in the area but the beauty of nature is everywhere. We camped at East Totten Trail Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Grand Forks AFB (Military FamCamp), Grand Forks, North Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived on a Saturday and had to use the main gate as the commercial entrance was closed. Outdoor Rec is only open 8-12 on Saturday so we missed the office. A box on the bathhouse wall offers info and an envelope to put your payment. Be sure to read the ENTIRE posting. Hubby read a $20 fee, which we paid. I later read the posting and found it would have been $16 since we have the Senior Pass. Oh, well. Hookups worked fine. There were only 4 other campers in the park. There is a feeling of remoteness since there is nothing around. It was a good overnight stop or longer for someone who wants to decompress and get away from it all. There is no WiFi. We camped at Grand Forks AFB (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Governors' RV Park and Campground, Casselton, North Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Governors Drive RV Park is behind the Days Inn. You check in at the hotel desk. They have a "water park" (but not very large) and you can use the pool at no cost. We also got a coupon for a discount on breakfast. The full hookups worked fine. Campsites are gravel. Some have picnic tables; we had none. Fargo is about a half hour away but there isn't much to see there. We camped at Governors' RV Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

River Terrace Park, Monticello, Minnesota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

All hookups worked fine. The WiFi was weak. The site was flat and easy pull through. Our site was roomy. There is a mix of permanent, seasonal, and transient campers. The campground sits right next to the Mississippi River with a deck to sit on and contemplate the issues of our time. So what if the office is in back of the campground. Signs bring you right to it. So what if the office is in the owner's home. He can still conduct business just as well as in a separate building. We were here for 17 days. Not a day went by that there wasn't someone out and about working around the campground. It is very well kept and clean. There's even a dog area (but could use a more sturdy fence). We would definitely stay here again. We camped at River Terrace Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Viking Village Campground & Resort, Stoughton, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

The cost was high given what you got. There was no WiFi and no cable tv. There wasn't even a sign on the roadway with the name of the campground. The sites were spacious although the trees were very close and required careful maneuvering in and out of the space. There was no dog area. The hookups worked fine. The two teenage girls behind the counter gave minimal information and had to be pumped for basic information. They handed out no paperwork at all - no rules, no map, etc. Two washers and two dryers were $1.00 each. There was a pool and putt putt golf available. We camped at Viking Village Campground & Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Emerald Cove Resort, Earp, California

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

We got free nights here from our RV dealer when we bought a new RV. The entire place is covered with gravel. Wild burros wander through the area. There was no Wifi or cable tv at the campsite. A clubhouse was simply a large warehouse sized building with tables and a kitchen. Meal costs are low because volunteers work there. The campground is not close to anything. This is a good place if you are going to stay for a season (I.e. snowbird) but it is really out of the way for a few nights camping. The sales presentation was a joke. They offer membership for $9,000 with annual fees of $449 but you have to buy on the spot. Otherwise you are not allowed to come back for two years. Then the cost is $99,000. Who do they think they're kidding??? The sales woman kept referring to a very very badly scribbled piece of paper. What? Printing costs are so high that they can't afford copies after using the same sheet of paper a thousand times??? And the free gas offer is absolutely the most ridiculous film flam of all time. You have to file a form to be approved for the free gas. Then you have to get one fill up at a Shell gas station every 60 days (no earlier) and get an imprinted receipt. After four fillups, you must send the receipts in. All this must happen within 240 days of the day you first became eligible for your $200 worth of free gas. Ha, ha, ha. Good luck with that one. An offer very few people will collect. We camped at Emerald Cove Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Schnepf Farms, Queen Creek, Arizona

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

It's hard to rate this place. All hookups worked fine, the Wifi was great, the sites were level, there was a restaurant on site. However . . . We never saw anyone from the farm around. We made all arrangements on line. The farm is a large amusement park that also hosts venues, like weddings and family reunions. The area was dusty dirt surface. The door on the ladies room was broken the entire 8 days we were there. The laundry had one washer and one dryer (that didn't need quarters and did not shut off) and was filthy with junk laying all over the place. The door hung open all the time. It is initially difficult to find your way to the camp area (use Riggs Rd off Rittenhouse) but was fine once you got the layout of the land. There is broken and discarded equipment and household and farm stuff all around the very large farm. I get the feeling that Grandpa (or Great Grandpa) started the farm but his descendants don't want to work the land. It's been turned over into a large park where folks could come to entertain themselves. The office is open from 8 to 2 weekdays and they do answer the phone. It was just weird to be there 8 days and not see anyone from the campground. There are old Air Streams parked in an area that someone was working on. It looks like the farm plans to rent out the nostalgic campers. There was no picnic table or fire ring. We camped at Schnepf Farms in a Fifth Wheel.

Casey's Socorro RV Park, Socorro, New Mexico

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Although it is a little disconcerting to step inside a beauty salon to register for a campsite, the host was pleasant and efficient. Electric and water hookups worked fine, although we had to disconnect at night because the temperature dropped to 27 degrees. Brrrrrrr! The dump station was easy to use. The campground was easy to get to from I-25. Go in the entrance marked with the beauty salon, not the RV Park. Even though our RV was bigger than the campsite, the interior roadways were wide and cars could easily get around us. We camped at Casey's Socorro RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This was a great stop. There are 3 rows of campsites in the back of the lodge. There is a mountain in the backdrop and some of the most gorgeous sunrises and sunsets around. Electric and water hookups worked fine. Easy access dump station is in front of the lodge. The lodge is uber friendly to visiting Elks. They have a very large menu to select from, a full bar, and a casino room. They were having karaoke night and the place was packed. We camped at Elks Lodge #969 (Members Only) in a Fifth Wheel.

Dyess AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp), Abilene, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice campground. There are no trees but the sites are laid out in easy in and out fashion (most are pull through). The campground is close to Outdoor Recreation and the camper storage area. All hookups worked fine. The Wifi is excellent. The ladies bathroom had 2 stalls and two large shower stalls with locker space. The men's room had one stall and one urinal with the same large shower area. The cable tv worked fine. The laundry room was sufficient. The campground is fairly new. Our charcoal grill had not even been used. There was parking space at the campsite to fit our tow vehicle. The $35 fee is high for a military campground (most are $20). We camped at Dyess AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.
