Grand Ole RV Resort, Goodlettsville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Everything about this campground was marvelous - except the trains. The hookups were great, wifi was excellent, staff were super friendly, maintenance and upkeep were superb, and the camp store/restaurant were outstanding. We were touring the sights during the day so the trains weren't a problem. If you buttoned up at night, you could hardly hear the freight going by. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Grand Ole RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Midway RV Park (Military FamCamp), Mid-South Naval Support Activity, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Best place we've camped in yet! Free excellent wifi, free laundry, full hookups, spacious sites, all base services (commissary, NEX, package store, gym, etc). The south gate is closed on weekends and nonbusiness hours (not mentioned on website) but you can get in the main gate on Navy Road. They also need instructions on how to use those beautiful new eco friendly washers. All in all, this is a great campground for the money. We camped at Midway RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Almost Home RV Park, Walnut Ridge, Arkansas

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

As previous evaluations have stated, this is a good place for an overnight stop. The park is run down and had a neglected look to it. The sign advising campers of rules and rates is out of date and needs repair. All hookups worked fine and the wifi was excellent. Most sites were taken by permanent residents. We had to take a site next to the highway where traffic was constant. It was very noisy. We camped at Almost Home RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The Beatles landed here back in 1964 and the town has dedicated a park in their memory. Don't miss the Wings of Honor Museum at the airport. The exhibits relate the story of World War Two.

Turkey Creek RV Village - Escapees Rainbow Park, Hollister, Missouri

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

The park would get a 10 except it had no wifi. Everything else was perfect. All hookups worked perfectly. A cable tv hookup had loads of channels. People were always doing some kind of maintenance around the campground. It was in excellent order and good repair. There was even a fenced in dog run. You couldn't beat the cost of less than $16 a night to be so close to Branson, music capital of the world. No Escapees member should pass this place up. We camped at Turkey Creek RV Village - Escapees Rainbow Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

See both historic Hollister and historic Branson. Dick's 5&10 was like an old fashioned variety store on steroids. It seemed to have EVERYTHING. Catch a couple of shows in Branson. If you go to Dixie Stampede, Showboat Branson Belle, and Silver Dollar City show your ticket stubs. They're all owned by the same company and give you a discount.

Fort Chaffee RV Park, Fort Chaffee Maneuver Training Ctr, Arkansas

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

What a gem! There's not many things to see in the area but this is that get-away-from-it-all kind of place. If you want a campground that feels like it's out in the wilds, stay here. The campsites were fairly level even though they were spread out on a hill overlooking a small pond and the post. They were spacious with lots of grass and trees. The hookups included 50 & 30 amp, water, and sewer and worked perfectly. There were laundry machines available at no cost. Soldiers were fishing in the pond. The only downside to this place was NO wifi. This is the only military installation I have ever stayed at that did not play the National Anthem in its daily ensemble of songs piped over the speaker system at 0600, 1700, and 2200 hours. We camped at Fort Chaffee RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Barksdale AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp), Barksdale AFB, Louisiana

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

All hookups worked well. Wifi was slow and sometimes dropped the signal. The sites were roomy and level. Only 2 washers in the laundry room at $1.25 a piece. Three of four dryers were working (also $1.25 each). The campground felt like it was way out in the woods. The only reminder that it wasn't was the occasional jet plane roaring overhead (hey; it's an active Air Force base). The staff was super friendly. We camped at Barksdale AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

City of Rayne RV Park, Rayne, Louisiana

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is a fine place to stay if you don't mind being in a lonely feeling campsite. There were only two of us camping and another RV came in when we were leaving. The campsites are arrayed around the outer perimeter of a large athletic field. All hookups (50 amp, water, and sewer) worked fine. We did miss wifi but the cost was fine. We were right in the town of Rayne adjacent to the police station. We camped at City of Rayne RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Bay Colony RV Resort, Dickinson, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

The word Resort does not belong in this park's name. It couldn't decide if it wanted to be a storage place or RV park. All hookups worked fine but the wifi was very slow and kept dropping. There was constant traffic in and out of the storage site and the roadway. Welfare motel occupants next door let their dogs run free and did not pick up after them. There was a small pool but it was closed and a small empty room that (I think) was supposed to be a lounge area. The garbage can in the bathroom was overflowing with used paper towels and the shower was not inviting. The campsites were level concrete pads but were close to each other with no shade trees. We camped at Bay Colony RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Schulenburg RV Park, Schulenburg, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This was a delightful campground. Our site was pull through and easily fit out 38' 5W. All hookups worked fine and the Wifi connection was mostly good. Nearby trains were disturbing with their horns but that was offset by the delightful cooing of doves in the campground. The work kampers running the park were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again. We camped at Schulenburg RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lackland AFB Campground (Military FamCamp), Lackland AFB, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

We had electric and water hookups that worked fine, as did the dump station when we left. The main reason for my rating was the poor, or lack of, service. The office was closed too often and the staff did not return phone messages. It was like musical chairs in the campground. Every day, this trailer moved from here to there and that one went from there to here. People stayed well past check out and with no staff overseeing operations it was easy for people to come and go without supervision. In addition, the Wifi was a hit or miss affair. It would suddenly drop the signal then not be available to reconnect. There was no cable tv. We camped at Lackland AFB Campground (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Big Bend Resort & Adventures RV Park & Campground (Big Bend Motor Inn), Terlingua, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

The word "resort" does not belong in this campground's name. Our campsite was in an area that would have seen much water if it had rained. It was dried, caked mud and dust with no grass, a broken square of stones (patio?), and a scrawny tree struggling to hold on. The wifi was terrible. The laundry had 12 washers and 20 dryers but many machines were out of order. We ate in the cafe every night. The food was good. Overall Rating:

The sites were concrete and fairly level, the park was clean and neat, and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. All hookups worked fine. Fort Bliss RV Park would have gotten a solid 10 if there was WiFi at our camper and not just the lounge. The lounge was and workout area were fantastic. Tips for other Campers:

Historic downtown was nice. If you want to see Mexico without crossing the bridge, take a walk down El Paso Rd at the end of the border crossing. Fort Bliss was well worth a visit. They have a huge modern mall with all the big name shops and restaurants. Friday and Saturday bands are playing.

81 Palms Senior RV Resort (55+ Park), Deming, New Mexico

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This was one of the nicest campgrounds we have ever stayed in. The place was immaculate and nicely decorated. There was a pool, game room, tons of reading material, card tables, puzzles, and exercise machines. The bathhouse was large with nice tile work. The host couldn't have been more pleasant. The only drawback is that the campground is located on I-10 and near RR tracks. Subtract points if outside noise bothers you. This is a GREAT place to stay. Wifi worked well and all hookups were fine. We camped at 81 Palms Senior RV Resort (55+ Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

El Centro Palm Oasis FamCamp (Military FamCamp), El Centro Navy Air Facility, California

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Campsites were roomy and everything was kept neat and clean. Laundry was $1 for washer and $1 for dryer. The rec area had plush chairs, loads of books, 2 Tvs, a pool and a ping pong table, and an outside area with barbecue. The on base theater was free and playing current movies. Recent torrential rains (the likes of which the MWR clerk had not seen in the 17 years he's been here) left things very muddy. The sites had concrete pads, patio, and picnic table. All hookups worked fine (including 50 amp service). Wifi was good and the dog park was acceptable. We would definitely come here again. We camped at El Centro Palm Oasis FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Fiddler's Cove RV Park (Military FamCamp), San Diego, California

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The hookups all worked well. The wifi was excellent (when it worked). The campground is on the San Duego Bay. The sites are concrete pad with a picnic table. Only water front sites are allowed fires. The staff is only there to collect money. Don't expect anything useful in advice or help from those ladies. $35 for a military campsite is high.
