Caprock Canyons State Park, Quitaque, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Excellent state park with lots of wildlife. Watch out for the Bison in the campground and near the restroom/showers. They and their scat are all over but not much of a problem if you stay aware. Coyotes around so do not leave pets or kids unattended. Only two trash stations, one near the showers, the other at the dump station. Well marked trails. We did see one rattlesnake in the 7 days we were there. We camped at Caprock Canyons State Park in a Motorhome.

Ray Roberts Lake State Park / Johnson Branch Unit, Valley View, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice park, close to DFW area. Love the paved paths, great for biking. There is a book at check in that you can see photos of each site. Good setups at each site, most have shade some do not. There is a beach but it was a little too cool this trip. We camped at Ray Roberts Lake State Park / Johnson Branch Unit in a Motorhome.

Purtis Creek State Park, Eustace, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Very Nice "small" State park. Trails were nice and well marked. Sites were level with Water and Electric (30 amp only) with lots of shade. Dump station only had two slots, so could get very crowded. No more canoe/kayak rentals due to budget constraints. Make sure to get firewood in town none available at park. We camped at Purtis Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There is an overflow camping area if you need to stay an extra night, on grass with electric.

I saw one of the other reviews about avoiding 154 into the park, I missed the 247 turn off (chatting) and next thing I see are the warning signs for Steep Grades and Winding Roads. No choice but to keep going. Was not too bad, a little excitement to end the day. As we were turning a corner I thought "that jeep looks just like ours" and it was... a few tight turns. We made it...

Springhill COE, Barling, Arkansas

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

What a little gem of a place. Am afraid to write a good review because that will send folks here. Loop A has nice river views and quiet. Only 30 amps on this loop. Loop B is nice but the spaces look very uneven and some looked unusable. When making reservations be sure to check that the site has water some do not. Close to Ft Smith. We camped at Springhill COE in a Motorhome.

Lewis and Clark Recreation Area, Yankton, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Our rate is high as we had kids & grandkids. First time at this park and it was great, if they had full hookups it would have been perfect. Only issue was folks with a large, loud barking dog nearby. The kids loved the beach. Close to town to pick up needed items. Trails were nice, lake was nice. We camped at Lewis and Clark Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Great location, Remember to get water at the turn off. Dump station and Water station a mile from park. There is a water station in the park if you are close enough or have a very long hose. Park was nice and clean. Spots were crushed granite, lots of trees and friendly folks. We camped at Cottonwood COE in a Motorhome.

Durant / Choctaw Casino KOA, Durant, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Our rate was the weekend rate. Here for a concert at the casino. Very easy to get to. Check-in was quick, nice little shop. Sites are very nice concrete slabs, no shade, we did have a table with an umbrella. Nice full hookup. Can call and get a shuttle to the casino, very fast pickup at your site. We went to a concert so very nice to get door to door service. Would stay again if in the area, way cheaper than getting a room at the hotel. Did not check out the other facilities at the campground but driving around it look very neat and orderly. Each site has a trap-bin at the end of the site. We camped at Durant / Choctaw Casino KOA in a Motorhome.

We have stayed here several times. Overall rating would be higher if there was some shade. Rate is with Casino card discount. Great little gem. Easy on and off the road and great spot to fill up. Security drives thru the park on a regular basis and will give you a ride to the casino. We camped at Prairie Band Casino in a Motorhome.

Valley Inn Motel RV Park Club , McAlester, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Well, it is great for an overnight stop. If you are a light sleeper be aware of the train approx. every 2 hours and they are not shy about laying on the horn. There is a stockyard above the park, we were not bothered by the smell even though it was a windy night. You have to check in at the motel and then drive up to the RV section, the road is gravel and deeply rutted when we visited so get there before dark to navigate safely. The restroom was clean but did not have any paper products. The showers were clean but the door did not lock. Sites were hard to get level, but only stayed overnight. We camped at Valley Inn Motel RV Park Club in a Motorhome.

Blue Ox RV Park, Pender, Nebraska

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

If you are having your Blue Ox equipment serviced you stay for free otherwise it is $30. This is a kind of isolated place, but is a wonderful park. As the others have stated you have to pull in and back out, Few of the spaces have full hook ups on pavement, other spaces are hard-packed stone. Some spaces have a picnic table and a small patio area. It is very quiet, bring something to read or craft. Decent Antenna reception. The town is close with a few places to eat, not much else. We camped at Blue Ox RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Black Island Wildlife Management Area is approx. 15 miles away. Down a gravel path then a deeply rutted road. No signs until you reach the parking area. If you have 4wd its a great place to visit. Along the river. Take bug spray and check for ticks afterwards, we found a few. The trails are not very defined. Worth the effort.

Lake Livingston State Park, Livingston, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Great Park with wonderful views, The price is for a Premium Lakeside Spot. The spot was great but they need to work on getting them a little more level. Be prepared with extra leveling blocks because you are going to need them, also bring extra hose (fresh water and dump). Some of the sites have varying distances to water and dump. Once you get setup you will love it. The park is very nice with lots to explore. We went during the week and were there were very few people around. Beware of the squirrels they have no fear and will come right up to you and take your food off of the table. We camped at Lake Livingston State Park in a Motorhome.

Dark Canyon RV Park, Graham, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Well you get what you pay for. For $20/night it's a bargain. Don't expect a view, most of the site are full timers (oil rig folks), On the list of rules nothing about keeping the outside of your RV clean, so you may be next to someone with lots of "stuff". It is a decent enough spot to spend the weekend if you can't get into one of the nearby state parks. Gravel roads, the space (30) we had was decent. Connections were dated but usable.

No Table or Patio. Reach out and touch your neighbor, no shade in the middle sections some of the outside sections had trees. No WIFI, Verizon One bar, AT&T one bar. Did not try TV but at 6 miles from town might have been some reception.

Value would be higher if WIFI was available.

Rated high on service due to friendliness when calling to make reservation, Did not see staff when we were there (3 days), have self checking and payment box.

Cleanliness: Let's just say i'm glad our RV shower worked... We camped at Dark Canyon RV Park in a Motorhome.

Very Nice park, concert roads and parking spots. Grass and trees around most spots, no tables, nice flat patio area. We parked in the front space #1, close to road but did not hear any noise. There are trains that passed frequently but only heard them when outside. Friendly staff. Did not use pool.

Decent wifi, cable you need to hook up a cable box, very good over air channels.

Great place to view fireworks that were done on campus. We camped at Holiday RV Park in a Motorhome.
