Wonderful park, quiet, clean, and campsites were large, with picnic tables, grills and fire rings; some sites have a deck overlooking the river/lake; we had a pull thru site with lots of room. Walking trails and bike trail. Host was very friendly. Publix grocery and gas/diesel nearby. .Wwould camp here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
If your staying in Tuscaloosa in your RV then this is the place. Though only a few miles from the city, this campground seems worlds away. Nice sites and a quiet place even on a football weekend. The only reason I did not give it a 10 was the fact that the campground host did not have the courtesy of leaving the gate open after a late ending football game of which 75% of the occupants of the campground went to. So every one had to park their cars inside and outside the gate since the campground is a half-mile past the gate. So if your going to be back by 10:00 this is a 10 campground. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
If it weren't for the pesky camp host buzzing around on his scooter, looking for camper violations, this park would get a 10 (reminds me of Barney Fife). When checking in, they don't seem to fully understand what campers expect. The campground is very scenic, with most sites having good shade. Some sites sit on a high bluff, while some are on a low bluff near the river. Even the sites on top of the hill are mostly in the woods and very private and scenic. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is my favorite campground in Alabama. It's 10 miles from nearest grocery story but the roads are pretty easy driving to be that far out. The sites are beautiful, large, peaceful and wooded. Some sites are near the water and have decks overlooking the water. It's easy to really feel like your camping here. There is a short trail along the lake's edge. The paved bike trail through the woods is .6 miles (not 6 miles per a previous review). The loops make for good bike riding for kids. I rode on the roads just outside of camp for 16 miles and only saw 2 cars. The beach is 1/2 mile away, small and has a steep hike back but you can drive to it and park close. It has nice hardwoods, birds and mountain laurel and lots of armadillos to watch (they eat the fire ants!). We camped here in a Motorhome.
We've camped here twice. One week July 2005 in a Popup and Memorial Day weekend in 2006 in our new Jayco Flight TT. It was very enjoyable both times. We enjoy taking our 2 dogs with us and it is a good place for them since the campground layout lets us walk them many different ways during the day (and night). The restrooms are kept up well and the staff is very friendly. Most sites are large and shaded. There is a nice sandy playground with basketball goals, swings and teeter-totters. This is one of most favorite areas to camp. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Great place to stay if you enjoy wooded, large campsites and the peace of being in the country. A little far from shopping, but no big deal! Closest shopping center is app. 10 miles. Only complaint while staying there was noisy dogs in nearby sites. Seems quiet time is not really enforced.....not a real problem, just slightly annoying! Several large pull through sites. We camped here in a Motorhome.
All sites are set up around heavy trees. All sites have a lot of space, table, fire pit, and great view. Sites are cement and roads are blacktop. Great view of lake from number of sites. On Golden age card price is half. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Although we like all the Corps parks, this one is probably our favorite. All of the sites are relatively private. If you are lucky enough to get a site down on the river (there are only about six), you will be treated to a large deck hanging off the side of a hill. You can then sit under the trees and watch the river traffic. Most of the sites are large level concrete pads. Even if you can only get a site up on the top of the hill, many of those sites have large decks overlooking the river down below. It's very scenic. In the six or so times we've camped here, we've never had a site that was less than great. There is a playground for the kids. The swimming area is accessible by walking down a steep hill in the woods, by taking bikes down a long hill, or by car. In the woods not far from the campground is a very nice paved walking/bike trail that makes a big loop. There is also a hiking trail down at the river level that circles much of the campground. A few of the sites are 16 feet wide and close to 100 feet long - so big rigs are welcome. Don't expect to go out to get a quick gallon of milk, though. The park is a long distance from any stores - a plus as far as I am concerned. Nevertheless, this is a great place to spend time with the family enjoying nature. Be sure not to leave your food on the table at night - or the racoons will clean the table for you. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
