This is basically a big parking lot, where the spaces are kind of tight. Maneuvering and parking space for your tow car is very limited if your RV is long. Sitting directly on the Pacific Coast Highway meant there was a lot of road noise, but we reserved one of the more expensive sites on the ocean side for an extra $10/night, which meant our bedroom (at the rear of the RV) faced the beach and the ocean, so it wasn't too bad. You can't beat the proximity to the beach, as you are literally right on it. The campground host was very nice and seemed really dedicated to being helpful. We'd stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a parking lot style campground, but you are on the beach. However, the sites are tight and the road noise from Pacific Coast Highway right next to the campground washes out the sound of the ocean. The local bird population was flourishing when we were there, and bird droppings covered everything. Oh, and don't plan on checking in early, the 2 PM check in time is strictly enforced. In fact the rules can be so rigid they can border on silly. We had unhooked the tow car from the Motorhome before we got to the check in gate because we knew that the campground was small and busy with one road in the middle. I followed the wife to the check in kiosk in the MH. The state employee at the kiosk (a fairly young man) wanted us to rehook the tow car to the motorhome to drive through the gate! We eventually talked him out of it, convincing him that we would just drive through and have to unhook prior to getting to the space anyhow. Good place to enjoy the beach never the less. I would camp here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

As as nearby resident, I like to come and camp on the beach at this State Park site fairly frequently. I enjoy Bolsa Chica SP because it is close to where I live, and therefore the drive is a short one. I love being right on the beach and having a beach view from my Airstream. There is a great bike path where you can rollerblade, skate, cycle or jog. The restrooms are not used often as all RV's here need to be self sufficient, but what I have seen of them, they are well maintained and clean.I would give this SP a higher score if it had some green lawns between the sites, and if it had sewer hook-ups. The sites are close together and as others have mentioned, it really is a parking lot with partial hook ups. The camp hosts have been great up until this most recent visit.I had just got back from being out in my SUV and was going to go out again in a short period of time. The one camp host came up to my trailer and was incredibly confrontational and threatening and told me that I had better back my car in otherwise I would be fined. I take exception to his attitude and abrasive disposition and trust that fellow campers do not encounter this most unpleasant man. (he stayed in the trailer at the south end of the camping area) I am considering writing to the State Park System to complain about this man's inhospitable manner. Other than this unfortunate incident, I love the site and will visit again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We have visited this park numerous times and have always had a good experience and leave happy with no complaints. It is a "parking lot with hook ups," but is convenient to the beach, shopping, dining and the Huntington Beach pier. Staff has always been very friendly and helpful. We will return again! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

I made a reservation for a 30' FW and ours is 28.5'. Upon arriving we would not fit in the spot they put us and they argued with us that our rig was longer than 30'. There was not room for our slide to go out also. In order to get a spot long enough we would have to pay $45. more on top of the $99. we already paid. It is basically an asphalt parking lot with hook ups. Rude and unaccommodating. Would not stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

If it weren't for the location I would not recommend this park. It's expensive, old, worn and is basically an parking lot. What makes it worthwhile, in some respects, is what it's close to, i.e. the Pacific Ocean that is just across the street-- a major 5 lane roadway and the Huntington Beach town, itself, is close by. They do have pet walk areas (2) but our dogs would not use them, for reasons only they knew. There is a city RV park, on the ocean side of the road, that I would try next time. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Beach and ocean-front camping in a parking lot. The fantastic ocean view can be blocked unless parked in the front row. Reservations by mail only, well in advance (for weekends). Closed during the summer and during special events. Bicycle rentals are nearby and several restaurants and shops are nearby. The campground is very close to the long pier. Handicapped rate is $50 a night, regularly $60 a night. Dump station has 2 lanes and gets busy at checkout time. The pull-through sites are roomy. It can get a little rowdy. Bikes and pets allowed on the beach boardwalk. There is a dog beach in the area but not really within walking distance. Close to Southern California attractions. Fires are allowed in fire rings on the beach. We will be back as soon as we can get reservations in the fall. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Sunset Vista RV Park is owned and operated by the City of Huntington Beach. It is a fun place with many activities. It is located on one of the nicest beaches in California. It is located right on the same beach that the popular OP Pro surf contest is located. It is near one of the longest piers in the US. There is a nice downtown area nearby with something for all ages. There are bicycle and pedals cars for multiple riders to ride on the very nice beachwalk. There are surfboard, bodyboard, and wetsuit rentals too. Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm are 20 to 30 minutes away. We camped here in our toy hauler in December of 2005. The sites are large, flat, and clean. The only thing I didn't like was there was no shade, but that is why we have our awning. The kids (both 13 years old) had a blast with all the activities. Riding bikes, playing in the sand and waves (too cold for me and mom, eating at Ruby's (hamburger joint) on the end of the pier, and getting icecream in the downtown area. The campground is not the quietest I have stayed at, as you could hear the traffic on Pacific Coast Highway nearby, but it was not that bad. The campground is only open from October 1 through May 31, I suspect because the city needs the parking for summertime. There are not individual sewer hookups, but there is a nicely setup dump station. This is not a quiet wilderness type campground. It is a very fun location for the family so I rated it as a 10 because of what it is. It is not the cheapest, but we will definitely be going back in the near future. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
