THIS PARK IS CLOSING in October 2011 supposedly forever. The staff reports that budget cuts will have the park buildings and improvements torn down in the future. There are questions as to what will happen to the land. The lake is being drained and there are no limits on fish taken. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is a beautiful state park, well off the beaten path in eastern Colorado. The review is for Wagon Wheel Campground. Although there is no water at the sites, there are plenty of water hydrants throughout the campground that offer easy access. The roads and sites are paved with lots of space between sites and acres of mowed grass in and around the campground. It was a quiet, peaceful oasis in the high plains and we would definitely camp here again. The only negative is the several miles of dirt road leading to the park entrance. No stores nearby, either so bring what you need and enjoy the serenity. We camped here in a Motorhome.
