I agree with all reviews up to 3 stars. The old lady was nice when I check-in and provided me with tour info and a map, but was a bit snooty when I asked about Wi-Fi access. I did manage to find an available Wi-Fi per chance from another camper I'm guessing. If you don't mind a bare bones campground for a few days visiting Savannah, you could get by here. Also, I agree with proximity to downtown is it's best plus. I didn't hook up to cable because it was far on the other side of my camper. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

GS discount not available. PA available, but very restrictive. Wi-Fi is only available in the office building, not in the park. Staff very friendly and helpful with local attractions. Old Towne Trolly pick up in the park is very convenient and priced right at $26 pp, giving us on-off trolly access all day long in the city and returned us to our site. Sites are shaded with tall trees, making satellite TV reception not feasible. Made a reservation by phone for 3 nights. Charged up front for all 3 nights, no refunds. This is not friendly. Blew our water pump and American RV came to our site and replaced it with a new one. Very friendly. Would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
AVOID this campground if you stay more than a couple of days. Odd hookups, lots of noise, people that run it are rude. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This park was lovely and the owner was wonderful! Located about 10 minutes from historic Savannah. We were able to tour and return to let out our dogs and then go back again. We had a great time. Park has lots of grass and trees! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Main advantage of this park is close location to downtown Savannah. We were parked in what looked like an overflow area that was adequate. Wi-Fi was available in office supposedly but it didn't work and when I talked to lady in office, she said her small computer worked well there and it must be my computer that wasn't working. That was not the case as I used my computer that day at hotspots in Savannah very well and had no problems. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We paid full price even though we are camp club usa members. They don't take reservations for ccusa, so we paid full price to insure a space. We needed to leave one night early for family reasons and they said no refunds except with 14 days notice. There are no picnic tables It is so close to road that it is really noisy at night It was too noisy to sleep. The dumpster pick up at 3:50am. They offer nothing for 36 dollars a night. We won't come back...EVER....it was the owners who said no..exceptions can be made. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This park is owned by a little old lady who is nice enough, but tough at the same time. During the week she accepts Passport America, but big rigs (35+ ft) MUST take 50 amp for an $8 upcharge. Well that's $26, which is not much of a bargain, but it's the best you'll get around here. On the weekend she will not give any discounts for any of the discount programs and the rate is $36. The park is fairly small and there appears to be a number of full time residents here. The park is also very old and not well kept. The hookups are wierd. My electric was on the right side, but the water was on the other side and not at the back. I needed an extension hose to get to it. The cable TV was fine, but the Wi-Fi I got was not from the park. It may have been someone in the park?? but it worked fine. The entire park is very treed offering lost of shade (Nice for the heat but not good for satellite dish). The best thing about the park is that it is the closest park to downtown Savannah. It's an easy trip downtown on I-16 and you get off right at the visitor's center. I would stay in this park again simply because of it's location. It has everything you may need, except there are no bathrooms, showers or laundry facilities. A couple of notes about downtown Savannah. Savannah DOT offers free shuttle transportation around the central downtown area for FREE. This shuttle goes to all of the same places the "Trolley" tours go to but all of the trolleys are at least $25 for the day. The difference is that the DOT doesn't give you a tour, they only give you transportation. Regardless of your choice you can park at the Visitor's Center, where the first hour is free and it's $1 per hour after that (a good deal). Also note that on the weekends you can park downtown at any of the street meters for FREE. Check out Mrs. Wilkes boarding house for a very different lunch experience. It's worth your time waiting in line! We camped here in a Motorhome.
No Wi-Fi, at all. No bathrooms, no showers. Connections are not convenient to RV. Just a bad campground. The "office" is an "antique" shop. Actually a junk store. The only reason we stayed here is because the campground we had reservations for had a problem of no water. This place is not even good for an over nighter. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This place is fine for touring Savannah. We are in a 40'MH with toad. No pull through sites were available but we didn't need it. We can disconnect in 3 minutes. Looks like it used to be a Mobile Home park as the services are a little scattered. We have a site that is about 60 x 40 with fences on three sides and a hedge in front. Had to pull forward a little to get the power to reach but still room for the toad. Needed 30' of hose. Sewer ended up at the back of the coach but reachable. Appears the site next to me did not have any of these concerns. I chose this site since it has fresh gravel. Good, clear Cable TV was available. Old Town Trolley tours picks up here at 9am and returns at 4pm. Good narrow, paved interior circular road. Rate was Passport America with 50 amp service per their advertised rate. Good 120 Volts shows on meter. The elderly lady (owner) walked us out to the site to assure satisfaction. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a small park but close to Savannah. There are no restroom facilities. You check in at an Antique store. It is a little odd but seems to suit Savannah. We had a pull through, and it was very easy to get into. Those that use Passport America get the spots near the road. I would stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Owners of this park are very unhelpful and tried to charge full rate instead of the Passport America rate. We arrived on a Sunday so the office was closed. We knew this ahead of time and we expected to pick a site and register on Monday. The husband of the owner came along and said he would show us where we could park. He took us to a site in a grass field right along the Hwy even though there were several unused sites further back in the park away from the noise of the busy Hwy. I mentioned we would stay 3 or 4 nights and that we are Passport America members. He immediately stopped and said "It's a good thing you mentioned that, we aren't associated with them so you'll have to pay the full rate." I said the PA website shows them as still active and he argued that they weren't a PA park. He finally gave in and admitted they were a PA park but said "We don't honor their rate on Sundays, that's right on the PA website, and today is Sunday so it's full rate".. I said that's OK for tonight but I want to stay another 2 or 3 nights and they should be at the discounted rate. He said "Nope, it's all at the full rate if you arrive on Sunday" I said "Thanks, we'll find another place to stay." I would never stay at this park anyways after looking at it. It is located right beside a very busy noisy hwy, looks like cleanup and maintenance are seldom if ever done, and offers no amenities. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
If you want to see Savannah this is the park to stay in! It is located closest to the historic district and the people that check you in are friendly, know the area and share so much with you. They go above and beyond what we have seen other places. They ordered us the Old Town Trolley and the company came and picked us up and brought us back at the end of the day. The trolley is a great way to see the city and learn about it and your ticket can be used for a discounted price for a second day. We are under shade trees, on a concrete slab and have full hookups with 50 amp service. We will recommend this place to others and will stay here on our next visit to Savannah. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
I would highly recommend anyone to stay at this campground. The ladies that own and operate this campground were very nice and helpful in directions. Prior to making our reservations, I did not read the reviews. The night before we were to leave I did read the reviews and I was so upset from the reviews. They could not have been farther from the truth. Campers, do not rely completely on reviews about the campgrounds. Some may not be helpful at all. I will go again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Shady spots with dirt, no concrete pad. Wi-fi available only when office is open. Passport America is not good Friday, Saturday or Sunday. We stayed here so we would be close to WW Williams, who was doing some repair work on our coach. They were great ,but the park was not a deal with no pool and no good wi-fi. We would not stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We were in the first site to the right as you come in. Only 4 miles to the city of Savannah and the trolley will pick you up and drop you off at the campground. The campground was clean and the owners were very friendly. Some of the sites were close to the road but we couldn't hear any traffic from our site. We will stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Backyard of this Garage looked to be divide by rusted out broken chainlink fence, broken tree limbs littered the site, unkept grass grew through the stone pads, bushes had not been trimmed bach in years, no washrooms/showers or friendly service. The water is 50' from the electricial hook up and if you do not have a long hose - you are out of luck. Reservations are required and there is no refund if once you get there and dislike layout. I lost two days site rent when I paid for two days on my charge and could not stand 30 min. of the noise from the road. Before I got out of this dump another RV was in my spot. Another trip to the office drew the same response "NO REFUND" We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Nightmare at Biltmore Gardens. Located across from a quarry, loud and dusty dump trucks from early morning till late evening, with constant highway noise. No showers or laundry. To add more input, don't use any electric motors that demand more than 105 volts. Campsites are at constant brown-out. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Sewer connections at far end of motorhome, so without an exceptionally long hose it won't reach. Very rude owner/operator who does not honor Passport America memberships after 5pm, not stated on website. Office not open after 5pm. Worst of all it is on highway frontage and all night trucks are passing. A very loud RV Park to stay overnight in. Do not recommend spending $36 to stay there. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Newly listed with Passport America. Entrance not clearly marked; office is inside an antiques & statuary store. Owner provided map to Savannah & other brochures. Regular sites are farther in trees with separation; PA spaces are on grass field facing highway and backed up to tree line. Fair amount of night traffic, very busy during commute hours. Good spot for touring Savannah but nothing to do at park except maybe shop. Would return on another trip this way. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a decent Famcamp with some exceptions. It has no bathroom/shower facilities nor does it have a laundry. The sites are dirt/gravel and relatively level. MWR needs to spend some money to upgrade it that part, but they have very nice new hookups with double water spigots and 50/30 and sewer at every site. It's heavily wooded, with 50% of the sites pull through and the others are back in. It's not really regulated as to who gets what, but did see a small TT move out of a pull through to accommodate a large fiver that was not going to be able to back in due to the trees, so I think folks take care of each other as you would expect. There are no signs that indicate the turn to the Famcamp, but you can see if from the Rio gate. You will need to have a valid DOD sticker on your TV or MH/TOAD to use that gate, otherwise a temporary pass can be issued at Montgomery Gate. Their is no host, and you need to pay at the MWR office about 2 miles away. The staff there were really nice and helpful, and we got a discount off the normal 25 to 18 with our America the Beautiful pass. So for $18, it's a great deal to see Savannah. I highly recommend reservations, the slots were all full when we arrived. They do enforce the 14 day max stay, so that makes it nice for everyone, especially with only 16 sites. It's a work in progress, but I would stay again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We camped in the dry camping section of this spacious RV park, and loved the quiet solitude! We used their laundry facilities and they were quite nice. The staff is very friendly and helpful. One problem we noticed. When we arrived we used their dump station to empty our tanks as we had been dry camping for several days prior to our arrival, and the sewer line backed up. This happened again when we were exiting after stay. Not sure what the problem is. Otherwise we would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a difficult park to review. It was a dairy farm. It is being converted into a garden center/farm supply store/event facility/RV park. First, the bad. This place only caters to self contained rigs. The shower facilities are about 1/4 mile down the road at the old farmhouse. Some of the out buildings are in pretty rough shape. Biggest problem is that the roads are crushed limestone and the people who live on the place fly on the road and raise clouds of white dust. Now the good. This place is huge, with 400 acres of fields and woods and 30 acres of ponds. It is beautiful with rolling and flat mowed fields and 250 year old live oak trees. There are paddocks for horses and lots of places to walk dogs (no dog run). There are 12 pull in sites along the access road with W/S/E. All sites are 50 amp. There is a "C" area in a grassy field with about 4 sites (E only). The best sites are B 1,2,3 which are very private under the oaks. There are lots of places to dry camp. Access from road is great. Its 4 miles to Savannah. Staff is helpful. If we come to Savannah again we will stay here. Beautiful place. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed at Red Gate RV Park while visiting Savannah. Our site number was assigned when we called to make our reservation. Upon arrival we went directly to the site and settled up with the manager later in the day. Their check in procedure is different from any campground we have visited, but it works. At first blush the campground seems very basic, primarily due to the location of the facilities which are away from the primary camp area. It does however have showers, exercise room, club house and pool. Line voltage at our site ranged between 115-120 VAC. Old Town Trolley picked us up at our site and returned us at the end of the day. The trolley is a great way to see Savannah. Campground manager gave us a discount ticket for the trolley. Nearby train tracks are used at night quite frequently. Running the AC fan provided enough white noise to mask out the trains. Campground is well maintained and facilities well marked. Will definitely return if visiting the Savannah area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We stayed here for only one night but wished we could have stayed longer. There was a large grassy area for our children to play in and a variety of activities for them to do. Sites were large. Close to downtown Savannah. Helpful staff. We camped here in a Motorhome.
An open campground with E/W/S sites situated in a semi circle. There is a lovely large clubhouse. Wi-Fi is available at sites closest to the clubhouse. At $45 a night it is overpriced, but it is close to downtown Savannah which is only an 8 minute drive. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Nice grounds and friendly staff. We stayed in one of the three shaded sites (B1). Fairly level, crushed rock, 50amp, water and sewage. Out of the way and quiet. Nice rec room with Wi-Fi, three TV's, pool table and a couple of other games. The place is a horse farm with a couple of goats and chickens, plenty of hiking and biking can be done here to burn off the great Savannah food. Convenient to Savannah. Old Town Trolley picks you up and brings you back when you purchase day ticket. Well worth the price. The only problem we saw is the showers/restrooms are a good walk from the sites and need work. Only two available. And, the pool wasn't useable. That was no problem. When we return to Savannah we will stay again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The only things this campground has going for it are location and the wide sites. The campground is very conveniently located to attractions in Savannah. Sites are basically gravel pads lining two sides of a big field. We checked in on the phone and were given our site number. There was no information on where trash should be deposited, location of facilities, etc. The website is deceiving. Buildings are widely scattered. I do not know if there are showers, the restrooms are in an outhouse with running water, only one has a sink for hand washing. At $45 a night this is very over priced and not a good value. We would not return here. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a field that has a few sites installed around the perimeter. The staff is friendly, but unavailable after 5pm. The pool could not be used as it had not been certified by the health department. This was a bit strange given it was late in the summer. We did discover the out houses, but not the showers. I assume they were there, we just didn't find them or look too hard to find them. The gravel road coming in will raise a lot of dust, so don't keep your windows open. Other than being convenient to downtown Savannah, I don't see this place as having much value for the price they charge. I won't be staying here again, at least not at this price for what you get. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Read the reviews and checked out the website before making reservations. This property was exactly what we expected. It was clean, no frills but a perfect base to see Savannah and the surrounding areas from. Staff were very friendly, we loved the "feed store" they had fresh produce, eggs, etc and it was a nice change of pace from the typical campground office. The grounds were great for walks - we will definitely be here again. PS: found a great local restaurant, Brown's, that had fresh down home southern cooking about a mile from the campground. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Close to historic Savannah. Quiet, clean, and just what we needed for a base for seeing Savannah. I will stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very easy access to Savannah, and to your site from entrance. The main campsite area consists of a large field with campsites on 2 sides. There is a cute, clean little restroom close to those sites (made to look like an outhouse, but is a real bathroom). Other facilities are very far away. You have to walk down a dirt road to the Pool (which was closed), shower house, bathroom and laundry, all of which were clean (we did not use, as we have all that). We just went looking for this, as no one tells you anything! This is a pretty setting...walk down another back road leads to gorgeous home on Lake, with another pretty home site before you reach the main one. It could be very nice RV park, but very confusing when you arrive, as there is no office and no information given out as to where everything is located. Someone just came out of the little store located just inside the gate, called via cell phone, then a few minutes later a young man arrived and led us to our site. There were 2 dumpsters at the opposite end of the field where we were parked. We noted that there were a few shaded sites in a remote area beyond the field where several motorhomes were parked. This was a very expensive park, and not well run. It has potential for being a very nice park, but needs someone with vision to make that happen. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We specifically planned to stay here for two reason. One it advertises a pool, two it arranges a trolley tour to pick you up from campground to tour Savannah. On arrival there was no one to speak to, another camper gave me a cell no. and I spoke with the 'new' manager. He came to see us and said the pool is not in use due to problems with it, and the trolley tour doesn't come there anymore!! He was however apologetic and gave us a discount (we paid for one night instead of two) and he even called the trolley tour and arranged it (well it didn't come get us the following morning, so I called them and they came, although I did hear him talking to them so I guess this is not his fault). The showers are at least a 5 minute walk away which was a pain (the one in our rental RV was broken!) It's a very pretty campground. Although the hook ups are in a field with not many trees or seclusion, there were some shady sites which were not full hook up. Midges were a problem and we soon discovered why no one set out at night! Given the manager's apologies etc we would stay here again and perhaps they'll have sorted out the problems. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed at this park 4 nights and its a beautiful property. Unfortunately the park seems like a sideline for the owners. At a rate of $45 per night we expected a park office (not a feed store), laundry (not working), cable TV (not available) and a pool (filthy dirty). They do a really good job keeping the grass mowed. I would not recommend this park. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Rate is based on AAA discount. Basically a big field with spots of gravel laid out to make a site. Same with sites near trees but they cost more. Trees are big old live oaks that might be risky in big winds. Close to highway noise but convenient to Savannah. Our site had only 50 amp service and no shut off switch or breaker on the pedestal. Could be dangerous having to unplug with live power, especially if raining. Good for a couple nights only. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This, my friends/RV buddies, is the place to stay. Excellent owners, just plain old people you like to be around. Only a short drive to downtown Savannah. They have a dog on the grounds that just loves to play. I will be back. Thanks Red Gate Farms for your southern welcome. We camped here in a Motorhome.
If you are going to spend time sight-seeing in Savannah this is the perfect location. Pet-friendly, enormous area to walk or bike ride. We found it to be very noisy with traffic and nightly trains nearby. We would stay again for a quick trip, but not for a lengthy stay. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is just meant as a little warning... In our eleven years of camping experience, this has never happened to us before (and we are full-time campers). Two months before we came down to Georgia, we asked for a quote for staying one month with Red Gate Campground. They told us it would be $550/month and to call them a week ahead of our stay to make sure they had space. One week before leaving Massachusetts, we called the campground again and they told us there was space. But by then, their rate had gone up to $650 / month. Their explanation for that was, that they were in higher demand now and so they raised their prices. For us, the reason they mentioned to just raise the prize to $100 more was inappropriate, but we still told them we'd come and stay with them. It was a three day drive from MA with our small kids. When we arrived at Red Gate Campground, a host greeted us and told us then and there that they charge $700 / month. Now we were totally perplexed. Then we were told that they actually weren't sure that there was space for us. So the host went into his office and stayed there for 20 minutes. In the meantime, our little kids, tired from sitting in the car, played outside. During our wait, our three year old daughter's shirt was covered with ants and I had to rip all her clothes off of her quickly, but she was still bitten all over her upper body. We were told by a couple staying at the campground and seeing me fighting off the ants, that they had to go inside their camper early the night before, because ants would keep biting them on their site. At that point, I already wanted to leave this campground behind us. When the host finally came to us and told us that he only had a weekly site for us, where we could stay at until a monthly site would open up, and that for $250 / week, we decided to look for another place. We settled on Tybee Island's Campground and had a great time and a beautiful beach in walking distance. Red Gate campground looked very nice and clean, but after this unfortunate experience, I surely don't want to ever go back there again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is a new campground with 17 sites but what a nice place to stay. Everyone is so friendly and the camp hosts went out of their way to make sure you were happy. We stayed their for 4-days and will come back to stay again. If this is your first time to Savannah take the trolley tour. The Orange Trolley will pick you up at the park and bring you back. The hosts will make the arrangements for you. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a nice park; it is clean and very well kept. It is a place where the other RV'ers are like neighbors. The location is very convenient and the Old Town Tours will even provide pickup service for their tours. There was no cable TV service however, there are several local stations your RV antenna will pickup clearly. The Wi-Fi service was weak in our RV, but at the clubhouse the service was great. I would gladly stay at this park again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very friendly people but obviously they aren't experienced RVers. To develop a new park that caters to today's RVers, this park is lacking 30 amp service at some sites; has poor WiFi at sites; no cable TV; the services are at a poor position at the rear of the sites. Our site only had 30 amp service. Water pressure is very low. WiFi at site is bad even with my booster. Very dusty access road right behind our rig and WHO is policing the speeders in the 5 mph area? For what you get this park is VERY over priced! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Just returned from a wonderful getaway at Red Gate last week. Everything about your campground is wonderful! We loved the site at C2, being on the lake, and loved biking around the property visiting the horses, chickens, and goats. The facilities were all clean and well equipped, the pool was quiet and relaxing, and... the hospitality was wonderful! We cant thank you enough for a wonderful trip and we hope to come back should our travels bring us to Georgia again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This park is soon to be a jewel in the South. Stopped here for 2 days on the way home from a 6 week trip. The hosts and owners couldn't be more friendly and helpful. A truly beautiful property. Recently started to add RV sites, it was a long time cattle/dairy farm. Old home plantation buildings with many trails to drive or walk. Convenient to everything, only about 5 miles from downtown Savannah and 5 miles from Hunter AFB for those that have base commissary privileges. The owner and I had a great discussion about his plans and I can't wait to come back year after year to see the development. My wife has family in the area and said that coming here to visit will be a much more often made trip now that we have found this park. The only reason for a score of 9 instead of 10+ is that there are still a few details in the works on multiple option power pedestals and the possibility of adding cable TV. Antenna works great and receives and 10-12 stations. Many of the other coaches have their satellites up and appear to have no difficulty in sight lines. Wi-Fi works well and fast throughout the park. Truly one of the most beautiful and pleasant parks I have stayed at during our 6 week trip through the NE. A great place to stay and rest up for a few days on the way home to Orlando. Also honored Military ID for discount. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Got off to a bad start here as they overbooked and tried to move us to a KOA. After balking they found us an overflow spot which has enormous space around it but no sewer or cable and poor satellite. Excellent Wi-Fi however. It's a nice place with mostly just field type sites and no amenities. Free washer and dryer, though, which is nice. Good base to see Savannah area. Would have been happier if they had offered to at least discount the rate given we had no sewer or cable. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Came here because of the Internet photos (which have changed on there web site in the last 2 weeks with NOT many pictures of the RV parking area) and recommendations of the people below me on this site. Boy was I mislead. First there is no RV site that can see any water, period. Also the previous posters need to understand the difference between a pond and a lake. There are small ponds here, not a lake. Second, the RV park is a field with no shade trees at all. Third, you are parked along the outside of the (football field as I call it) field by the dirt road in an L shaped formation with 16 sites long ways and 4 on the other part that form and L shape. Now for the bad part. We inquired about monthly stay 2 weeks before arrival and the owner quoted a price. We did arrive 2 weeks later (I have a brand new RV so don’t even think that I was turned down because of an older RV) and the first thing that was told to me was "we do not have monthly sites.”. Clearly, several of the sites and some around the office and barn have guest who have been staying here for a long time. Honestly I was glad because with no cable, no shade, no Wi-Fi except around the office (at least they have a strong signal there), no pond view, no posted rate on the Internet, which should have been my first clue; there was no desire to stay longer than 1 day. This park changes rules almost daily so please beware what was told to you before arrival may not be what you get when you arrive. Why bother coming here when the price changes without notice, no cable, no shade, no pond or water view (which there earlier website showed a fiver by the water with the impression that all sites were like that and by the way has been replaced with a website that has little information) but man they sure talk about being close to the “Historic District”. For a nightly rate of almost 50 dollars forget it. The people who run this place are far more impressed with their field than I ever was. Buyers beware. Oh and if you inquire about anything at this park by email then don’t expect a quick answer because hardly ever anyone in the office during the day. They post there cell phone numbers and you get to track them down. Oops and the train at 11 PM and 3 AM was a real joy. Shook the entire RV while passing by. THIS IS A FARM FIRST AND AN RV PARK SECOND. This park is managed by cell phone, not someone in the office to answer questions you might have. It is like you have to ask for permission to do anything here. They do not like drop in arrivals either. It was made clear that the way they want it to work was by reservation only. Not a comfortable feeling at all. You can be the nicest owner but at some point you have to decide if you want to farm or manage an RV park. You are better off at the Flying J – it is about the same experience but at least you kept your 50 dollars. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Red Gate is a small grouping of about 20 RV sites on an open field within an inactive farm setting. Overall, an attractive setting with good potential. I would never stay here again however because of what appears as a seriously deficient electrical service. My RV read no higher than 108 volts at any time. It went below 100 volts when the AC was turned on. Same with the water heater, it pegged well below 100 volts. I was located on the end of the sites with my generator on the outside. I ran it for A/C when needed and used propane for water heating and the refrig. When I registered, the nice lady told me there had been some problems with the WiFi which she “hoped had been fixed.” Based on an earlier review, I believe this was a polite way of saying not to expect much. The signal was so weak to be useless. The park has great potential, however for $45/night I believe it reasonable to expect electrical service that does not risk damaging my RV's electric system. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Located close to Savannah. A very spacious park that has relatively few sites so it does not feel crowded.Wonderful owners and staff. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This park is easy to reach from I-95 without having to deal with small city streets and tight intersections. The RV sites are arranged in an "L" and are wide open, unobstructed, if you want good satellite coverage. The family owners live on the plantation and take pride in maintaining and improving the RV park. Good WiFi, but no cable TV. The Savannah Trolley Tour comes right into the RV Park at 9 AM and drops people off at 4:30. Very convenient. We camped here in a Motorhome.
A very cool place. It's like staying at a plantation. You park in around the edge of this very large field. It's very level, lots of space between you and your neighbor. Great bike paths that take you around to ponds and a beautiful plantation type home. It's very close to Savannah. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Where do I begin? This park is Tops in our books. The owners are wonderful. The grounds are so peaceful and beautiful. Our family felt like we were in a different world. The owners were wonderful in helping us find a great mechanic to diagnose our truck problems and made our stay terrific. We would definitely go back and stay, actually hoping to go this fall. If you are going to the Savannah area this is the place you have to stay at. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Wow! What a beautiful plantation! My husband and I didn't know what to expect when we pulled in but once we toured the park we were really pleased. The kids were in heaven. The first thing that we noticed was all the beautiful trees and the lakes. After we got settled, we immediately went to the pool, and it was very nice with a beautiful view. We spent the majority of our first day there at the pool. The owners of the property were there as well, and they were very kind and made us feel very welcomed. They even let us tour the Mackey House, a southern plantation home where they do weddings. This was southern hospitality at its best. If you are visiting Savannah this is the place to go. We are definitely coming back. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We LOVED this place. The setting is a family-owned farm that has been in the family for generations, and it is absolutely gorgeous. The people could not be nicer, and there is just a friendly, easy feeling about the place. Nice facilities, beautiful ponds, lush green fields, mature trees and very convenient to Savannah. Owners (who are all from the same family; most live on property) are continually making improvements and have plans to add more sites and upgrades. We will definitely be back to Red Gate Farm. And if you stay there, you must be sure to throw a ball or a stick for Disco! We camped here in a Motorhome.
We just spent 4 days at Red Gate Plantation while touring Savannah. Although we chose Red Gate because of its close proximity to town, we soon discovered its country charm. The farm is very well kept: clean, beautifully landscaped, newly painted, with spacious gravel sites. Unfortunately, if you arrive after May 1, you will miss the joy of the Big Red Bus. Two sites from us were the owners of the red bus, their dog, two cats and 4 hens. That's right, 4 hens. We spent time every morning drinking our coffee/tea and watching the hens nibbling away at their breakfast. You will also miss the taste of fresh brown eggs that were shared with us for breakfast. The Big Red Bus will be gone, but you will truly enjoy your stay at this family owned resort. They were available whenever I called, and were also a wealth of information about what to do and where to eat. When we visit or pass through Savannah again, Red Gate Plantation will be our place to stay. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This was a strange campground: a farm that they are in the process of making into a campground. Our site was not at a lake, it was in a large field, no shade, with a 50 amp electric box that did not seem right, small box very low to the ground. The clubhouse was locked, the pool was being painted, an exercise room was being painted, and the laundry was only one washer and dryer in a building that closed at 6 PM. The one shower was also in there. There was a shed-type building right behind a motorhome, which housed a toilet and sink. And yes, there is a permanent resident here with chickens, but the chickens were kind of neat. This place is close to Savannah, and may be worth the money when finished, but they should not be charging this much at this time. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This park was not your ordinary park but that's what we loved about it. If you love plenty of room, large oak trees, ponds and wildlife, you will enjoy this park. I read some reviews that I couldn't disagree more with. The red bus was here but I was informed they were given 30 days notice to leave. However, I didn't think it was bad at all. The management was very helpful and provided us with information on things to do in the area. Many of the sites didn't have much shade, but ours did. This park has a lot of character and the potential is incredible. We have already recommended the park to some of our friends and we will return. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed here a couple of days while visiting Savannah, but it's not really a park I would spend any significant time at. The signage is terrible here and we kind of wandered around trying to find either an office, or someone to get us checked in and lead us to our site. There IS an office near the end of the park roadway (gravel), but don't try entering their long semi-circle driveway to get to the building. Between the low-handing tree branches and the narrow fenced entryway, most RVs will not make it. Facilities are extremely rustic here. The park appeared to be a former camp, with very old (ancient) facilities for recreation, entertainment, etc. The owners, I believe, are in the process of converting the facility into a nice RV resort or campground, but some things are a little strange. For example, the sewer hookup about 15 feet away from the other resources. The sites are all on crushed limestone pads. When it rained, we wound up with a lot of chalky splash-marks on our rig when we left. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We camped here over the St. Patricks Day holiday. The park was very nice and has many beautiful ponds. We stayed on a bluff overlooking one of them. It was very private and the manager was very helpful. I would recommend this park to anyone. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We camped here because it was the closest RV park to historic downtown Savannah, and it was easy to go back and forth. The park seems to be in transition, as they were setting up new gravel pads while we were there (we didn't see anything that approximated 25 camp sites with hook-ups). Red Gate Plantation itself is quite spacious, and we had a nice large site under a beautiful oak tree with a view of the lake. We're not sure what amenities would be available in the summer, although that's not very important to us. The owners were very laid back (a plus), but never stopped by after we got set up to offer us a map of Savannah or any other information. This park also needs to do some work on the technical details: the 50 amp service had the wrong fitting for the plug, and there was no circuit breaker. The sewer also had no cover plug, and sloped upward around the opening. Even so, we made it all work, and really enjoyed our stay. We camped here in a Motorhome.
After checking the reviews for parks in the area, we decided to stay here. The only plus was that the owner was very friendly. The utilities worked fine, but we have come to expect that as basic to park operations. None of the facilities listed on the website were available, even showers. There was no laundry, no showers, no reliable Wi-Fi, no exercise room. Even the bathrooms were incomplete with only one working toilet that had no sink for handwashing and no heat. We were parked next to someone living in a converted school bus that raised chickens that roamed freely and annoyed our dogs. The same full-time residents released the dog unsupervised to do his business and obviously did not pick up behind him. The property has terrific potential, but customers should not be expected to pay full-price rates for minimal functionality. We would stay here again if the facilities are completed as advertised or if the rates were adjusted. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We stayed at Red Gate for 10 days and really enjoyed it. Park is close to everything in the city. The park has 2 different settings you can camp in. We camped on the lake under the oak trees. I would definitely stay in that spot again. The only complaint is that the bathrooms were being renovated however the manager did tell me in advance. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a nice, rustic looking, very convenient park less that three miles off I-95. They have a gas station and well stocked convenience store on the premises. We stayed one night on our way north and we were given a pull-through site. They have lots of cable channels as well as free Wi-Fi so I was happy. With all the trees it would be tough to use your satellite. We camped here in a Motorhome.
I am disappointed that this place has "resort" in their name. There is no resort here. The hookups are old and are not maintained. The cable is a joke. You get 40 channels but can't see them through the snow. We are up near the road, and the noise is terrible. We have never stayed someplace that the A/C and fan did not drown out the outside noise until here. The sites near the river are much quieter. Roads need some new gravel to keep down dust. Disappointed and will not stay here on our return through the area. There has got to be better. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
It was nice to be greeted by a friendly clerk when we checked in for our overnight stay. The site was dirt and level. The restroom/showers had no paper towels. The floors were very dirty and water pooled up in the showers. This is a convenient location for visiting Armstrong Atlantic State University or Savannah. The park has a large growth of Live Oak trees. I parked here 29 years ago and not many changes have been done to the park. I suggest you use your on board toilet and shower. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Whoever made this park on the Good Sams list was blind. My overall gripe is no hand soap in the bathrooms, and no papertowel. When I asked at the office they said you had to bring your own soap, and that every RV park is that way. They are so WRONG. I would never recommend this park to anyone We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We were welcomed at the office courteously and professionally. We were guided to our site. Hookups were convenient and set up accomplished quickly. How you feel about the site depends on which site you get. There were many nice, roomy sites, including the ones next to us--but ours (#38) was so narrow that we could not extend our awning fully and leaving the coach required making our way over our neighbors hoses, electric boxes, faucets, etc. There was a picnic table but we didn't even think about trying to use it. The area flooded during a hard rain but drained off in less than 30 minutes. We might stay here again to visit Savannah but I wouldn't make even a week of it. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The office staff was friendly and helpful, guiding us to our site and ensuring we were safely parked. Our site was large, grassy and had a nice shade tree. The park had lots of trees and was tidy. We didn't use the pool but it looked nice, as did the laundry facility. The fishing dock was long with quite a few guys fishing. (Bug spray is wise before heading to the dock.) The bathhouse is not the prettiest, but with a fifth wheel we didn't need it. The Wi-Fi was great as was the cable TV. With quick access to Savannah, this was a perfect spot to enjoy the city. We would camp here again with pleasure. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is not a resort, but an older park. It is a quaint park with lots of trees and really no bugs to speak of so, I was pleasantly surprised. We were in a 40ft motorhome and had plenty of room. There are only a few spots that can get satellite TV, so if you need that be sure to check which spots can get it. The Wi-Fi worked well. We would come back again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We love this park. We stay here on our way to Florida each year. They have nice pull thruough sites, some with concrete pad. The staff is nice, the bathrooms are clean, and well stocked store. They also have a dog park which our boxer loves. We camped here in a Motorhome.
NOT big rig friendly! Ugly old park, dirty, run down. Looks like a bank repo. It was so bad we left and went to nearby State Park, glad we did. Pass this one by. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The young ladies managing the park were nice. The park was in poor repair; street had huge holes; tight curves; signs were worn; in general it looked run-down. Stray cats were numerous and bothersome. A good 20-30 minutes to downtown Savannah. Only one dryer was operational. In general, I did not like this campground. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Stopped here overnight on our way back home. Ended up getting one of the last sites available as they were pretty full. Camp ground was nice, wide open with the full hook-up sites in an open field area of the property. We ended up getting a nice spot near the pond and club house because we got one of the sites without sewer hook-up. The property had a nice pool and club house but everything was pretty spread out. Never did find the rest rooms/shower area so I can't comment. I would stay again but at $40 a night it's a little expensive for what you get. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Located on the Ogeechee River. Security gate. Treed sites. Roads need repair. Narrow and hard U-turn to leave. Gas station on site: reasonably priced. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We used this campground as an overnight stop on our way to Florida. It is an older park that needs some work. Nothing special thus my rating. We really did not take advantage of any amenities because we were here only for one night. We did walk the campground and trekked down to the river. They have a nice dock that extends out and it seems like a good place to fish. The tide was out when we were here. As somebody else mentioned, the cable TV was fuzzy. We did not have any other issues and found the park to be extremely quiet at night. I would not hesitate to stay here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Very nice park, clean, relaxing atmosphere. Staff helpful and nice. Good place to park while enjoying historic Savannah! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Stayed while visiting Savannah and Fort Pulaski. Easy access to I-95. More of a stop over RV Park than a "Resort" though we just used it as a stopping point for our 2 days in Savannah and for that it was fine. If we were looking for a Resort, this wouldn't have been our choice. Easy, pull through lots and easy hookups. Staff was friendly Cable was fuzzy - even with the Comcast tech on site to repair things. Wi-Fi was useless. No cell reception on our AT&T iPhones. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Easy access from interstate, staff efficient and pleasant. Speed bumps were a little excessive. Wi-Fi was excellent but cable TV was fuzzy. Reasonable priced. Would come back We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Stayed here as a stopover on my way north from winter in FL. After staying in some beautiful state parks in FL, I was disappointed in many things, but pleased by others. My campsite was right next to Hwy 204, and it was noisy all night long. The interior roads have these massive speed bumps, who knows what for as the roads are so twisty and rutted you can't go fast anyway. My site was unlevel. The sites are small and short, my Class C took up almost the whole width! On the good side, the laundry room was amazing, lots of newer washing machines and dryers all in working condition, with an iron! There is a fenced bark park which is always a treat for me and my dog. The walk to the river is pleasant and there is a nice floating dock for fishing. I would stay here again, using it for a stopover off I-95, not for vacation. My rate was with a Good Sam discount. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We were satisfied with the campground, but there are maintenance issues such as a propane leak in the laundry that did not seem to concern the staff and some electrical outlets upside down. Some sites are too close together and could be leveled better. Cable and Wi-Fi worked and we had a good satellite site. There are fast highways to the sites of Savannah and in the area and it was easy to get around. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Good things about this park was the nice trees, quiet on the back side of park, escort to site, not far from Savannah touring, full hookups. Bad things about this park was sites very close where we were, cable TV was bad, quite a few permanent residents, weak Wi-Fi, and definitely sewer issues. Older park that is not yet up to date on travel with newer motor coaches. Close to I-95 for overnight visit but would not stay here for a longer time again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Stayed for one night while going south. It was a rainy night. Their water went out in the evening and wasn't restored by morning. The bath houses could have used a good cleaning. There's plenty of tree cover. The site I was at was pull through with a level concrete pad. The pad was just big enough for my MH, which is OK given I have a 43-footer. Folks were friendly. There didn't appear to be anything in bike riding range. Although they were very friendly, I would not likely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The Savannah Oaks RV "Resort" is quite a ways from the historic district of Savannah (15 miles) and because of that it's very quiet. The sites nestle under giant trees with hanging moss near a tidal slough: quite picturesque. I have a little difficulty in calling this place a "resort" but as a stopover, it's perfect. Big-rig friendly with a staffer to lead us to the site. Water, electric, sewer, cable TV and Wi-Fi worked perfectly. The sites are somewhat narrow and barely long-enough to accommodate a 43' coach and toad. So, plan to disconnect. It's a very pleasant place to stroll through and we enjoyed the floating dock on the river in late afternoon. If you travel with a kayak, you'll enjoy a paddle through the swamp and there is an easy put-in and boat ramp. (Take a portable GPS as it's easy to get lost!) We camped here in a Motorhome.
A Good Sam park. $35 for 30 amp site; all sites have full hookups. Convenient to Interstate 95. Lots of pull throughs. Mature shade trees. Laundry w/6 dryers and washers, ironing board and iron. No fire rings. Good cable TV and good Verizon signal. Lots of squirrels, few insects. Paved peripheral road w mean speed bumps. Sites are mostly level gravel and sand, close together: the wall of our neighbor’s fiver is 10 feet from ours. Lots of street noise. This is 2010 and there is NO recycling of any kind. Good for an overnight off Interstate 95. We would stay here again although we do not view it as an “RV Resort”. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Overall good. Older campsite. Showers/restrooms could use some updating and attention, but clean. Our site could have stood a little better leveling. Was quiet the night we stayed. Would stay again while passing through. Has store and gas station at entrance. Enjoyed the river dock area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed two nights here. People were friendly and park was nice. We were very satisfied with our campsite. It was level and well shaded. It was within 15 minutes of downtown Savannah. Would definitely stay there again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
I did not realize it until we were almost driving in that we had been here before, 3 years ago and this was a c.g. that we put on the "B" list, not again unless we had no other choice. The place is really not too bad, we have just become camping snobs. The sites are mostly not level (on a hill), mostly not paved and mostly dirt and some gravel. We are very unhappy when we have to put our outside rug in dirt. There are no breakers or covers for the 30/50 amp power, plug and pray. Our sewer connection is built into a poured concrete foundation which made it very difficult to use our Rhinoflex but I managed with a rubber donut. Water pressure is similar to other parks. There is much shade which makes satellite finding (Dish) a challenge. I did get the signal finally. Make sure you ask for a satellite "friendly" site if you have a dish. Cable is available on the sites but the picture was horrible. I reported this to the office and they said they would check it for the next camper. There are a lot of pull throughs and this is a one night stop over for many on the way north or south. We have different neighbors every day. The staff is efficient and friendly. The price is typical of over night stops. We are staying for a week and a day for my wife's birthday fun in Savannah which is quite a distance away from the c.g. We are hoping for no rain as this site will be in the path of the water running down the hill. This could be one outstanding c.g. if some money was put into paving the roads, leveling up the sites, and providing paved patios. Still, we've been in worse, but will look elsewhere next time. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is a good location: close to I-95 but far enough away so traffic noise is not an issue. The sites for big rigs are concrete and pull throughs. Trees were appreciated in the September heat. I don't think WiFi was available and our AT&T service was non existent. Ok for a short stay but no phone and no internet, no way! We camped here in a Motorhome.
We only stayed here one night on our way home, but I could have stayed longer. The sites we had was nothing special, just a long drive through, maybe 20' away from rigs on either side, but the park itself had a fenced dog run and nice big live oaks, pool, general store and was not over crowded. One of our neighbors told us that the lady in the office offered to sit for her dog for a day when she was going to be away. I wouldn't expect this, but thought it certainly reflected a nice hospitable attitude. They led us to the site at night in a golf cart (much appreciated) and the site was level. We camped here in a Motorhome.
I read the mixed reviews, but came anyway due to location. I found the truth to be somewhere between the two reviews. We got the Camp Club America half price rate. This certainly isn’t a resort, but appears to be on the upswing. The bathrooms were less than average and the showers had the water saver buttons that cut off every minute or so to save water. It also turned cold for a few seconds. I have only found this in about 1 or so percent of the campgrounds we have stayed at. Our TV connection had 4 connections and had to be figured out. Worked OK then. WiFi was virtually nonexistent. So slow to be almost useless. I was able to get on using a linksys for my very slow experience, and then the next day discovered a “campground” network when trying to hook up. It was even slower. I wonder why campground owners tell campers things they know not to be true. Must be to get the business once and forget repeat business. The internet has changed that narrative. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Sites are narrow, but long enough for a "Big Rig". Cable TV, although available, does not come in very well, the cable hook-ups are old and beat up. We camped here in a Motorhome.
What have these other guys been smoking? This is a fine park and we will stay here again when we return to Savannah some day. Conveniently located - easy drive to downtown/shopping/etc... Tree covered, quiet, good Wi-Fi and cable. A little old, but so what? Roads could use a little work, just drive slowly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We were in the loop by the river, which appears to be the best-loved it. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a good overnight stop. Friendly staff with escort to site and help getting set-up. Nice shaded sites. Very pet friendly, they have a pet area that my travel pal really enjoyed. Just stayed the one night, but would come back again when in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Resort? No way! This is an old, tired fish camp. Needs a good clean out of old trailers and a clean up of the area around the long term campers. Has deteriorating asphalt and gravel roads. Somebody must have got a bargain on big, nasty, yellow speed bumps as they are all over the place. Man guiding us to site was rumpled, dirty looking with scraggly hair. Has narrow pull-through sites, most not level with barely enough room for slides between trees, forget using awnings. Our site had trees next to the slides on both sides and a 5th wheel parked directly across the narrow street in front. Because of this we had to unhook and back out of a pull-through site. This could be a really nice place if the owners would use some of the outrageous fees they charge and put it back into updates by widening, leveling and spreading new gravel on sites, strengthening WiFi signal (kept dropping out), widening roads, remodeling bathrooms and supplying with hand soap, paper towels, toilet paper (one shower didn’t even have a shower head), changing push button faucets to on/off twist handle faucets and getting rid of some of the speed bumps. Laundry building very tired, washers were clean, and contained a few electronic games, but none were turned on so don’t know if they worked. A sign in the office says not to use washers in your unit as it causes problems with the septic system. Don’t understand this since the washers in the laundry room empty into the same septic system?? Pool is small but clean, has steady electric, water pressure and cable TV was good, it's convenient to I-95. Lady in office was pleasant. Tricky when exiting as you have to make a huge U-turn to go back to I-95. Will look for another place to stay next time. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Good park for an overnighter. Lots of pull throughs even though they are not very level. Way too many speed bumps. Laundry room was good, washrooms clean. Like many others we stayed here while we toured Savannah and Tybee Island. Convenience store/gas station right outside the park. This park served our purpose, no complaints. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This park is an okay park. The office person was very serious. There are lots of large trees in the park, but they did not pose a problem. The interior roads are either paved or gravel. All sites are gravel with three options: 30 amp FHU with cable, 50 amp FHU with cable, or 30 amp with water. Our basic site (W & E) was not level. There is wireless in the park. We had cell phone service with Verizon but not with AT&T. The park is located near the Ogeechee River, so there are lots of insects. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Very rustic park, close camp sites. The dump at my site was backed up and there was no toilet paper in the rest room. Staff were very friendly. Would stay here on an over-nighter again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
As other reviews state: this is an older campground. Needs some work, but stayed constantly full when we were here. Office staff is very polite and helpful. They furnish a guide that leads you to your site and assists you getting in if required. Verizon cell phone service was strong as well as T Mobile. Sites are HARD gravel and kind of level. I had to add 2 boards to get my front jacks up high enough to get level. Heavy tree cover. Bathrooms were horrible. Water pressure was good and electrical hook ups were new. Spaces were a little close to each other, but this comes with being an older campground. They have a complete, quick stop store at the entrance. I would call the river they list, a stream at best. New bulkhead and walk by the water is nice. Overall the stay was OK, but will try another place next trip. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The park was ok. It has dirt roads and some hills depending on where your site is. Ours was 66 and fairly level with a slight slant. Sites on the lower level nearest the river are level and some pull throughs also. Having a pet run area was a plus. Being near the stream or river area meant more bugs, biting gnats or whatever, which was annoying but then it's Georgia, one must expect this. With AT&T, our cell service was not a problem here. WiFi worked well and was fairly fast. Cable TV worked well. We stayed one night. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Staff is very friendly and co-operative here. $34 price includes (AAA-AARP or Good Sam Discount. Sites are narrow, gravel & no grass. No campfires. Interior roads are gravel. There's an enclosed dog run and small play area for children. Many tall trees. Fishing in the river is useless. There's a free shuttle to downtown Savannah IF you purchase a $25 hop on hop off tour bus ticket. Do not miss Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House luncheon. $16 per person. 23 different dishes are delivered to each table. The food was excellent. Lady & Sons lunch was also good but buffet style. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This campground was not fancy at all. The sites were level. It appeared to have many long term users. Laundry room was clean, one section where washers were located had no light, as fluorescent bulbs had burned out. The Wi-Fi worked at times and then at other times not so good at all. There was no cell service at all. We had to drive about 3 miles down the road in order to place calls. It was an OK place to stay while visiting Savannah. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice, no frills park. Dirt/sand roads. My spot 61 was somewhat level but slanted just a little. I took a tour of Savannah with Old Town Trolley Tours. The friendly office staff called and reserved the tour for me. I was picked up at the campground office. It was $25 and very much worth it. I needed some minor RV repairs, and the office gave me the number of a very capable man who came to fix the problem. Wi-Fi and cable TV worked very well, but my phone didn't work at my spot. I had to walk a short ways to get cell service. I would have rated this higher except for the showers. They were clean, but it was one that you push a knob, and the water stays on for about 10 seconds. No matter how many times I pushed it, the water never got warm. Also, in the bathrooms, which are unisex, there are no paper towels or blow dryers or soap dispensers. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Note that you will NOT find Bellaire woods. This campground was purchased a few years ago and is now Savannah Oaks RV Resort. The sign at the freeway and entrance to the park reflects this. I have corrected the website address here to reflect the new web address. They have propane here, fenced dog park,VERY FAST and strong signal Wi-Fi. Adequate for big rig and towing. Nice place but nothing fancy. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed here on our way south while on the way to Florida. Nice stop over with a friendly staff. The manager even helped me jump start our toad. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
A rustic campground with dirt sites but very convenient access to Savannah. Very helpful staff. Beware of low-hanging electrical lines: our CB antenna would have contacted them during departure. We left using the entrance road to avoid this hazard. Apparently other customers have brought this hazard to the staff's attention. We camped here in a Motorhome.
First the good things. It is convenient to an overnight off I-95 and close to Savannah. The best sites are in the "fish camp" area, which are sites 1-50. Request a pull through with 50 amp service. The staff at check in are very nice and quick, host to site. Now the bad things. We were put in site 67, which is right next to extremely busy highway 204, though I purposely picked this campground due to being over 2 miles from noisy I-95. The site at this campground may has well been in the median on I-95. Even worse, the construction going on across the street. Our hookup was the most inconvenient thing we have ever experienced. The sewer hook up was 30 feet from the electric and water, making us pull out (luckily we had one) an extra length of water hose. It was a strange site with cut off tree stumps we had to be careful to avoid. We will come back here again but will be sure to ask for a quiet site in the back near the pretty little creek. It is real Southern Georgia swamp style, with old oaks and the hanging Spanish moss. The sites back there are quiet and peaceful. Odd "bath houses" with unisex shower, toilet, and sinks. Individual units which is actually nice, but be sure to bring your own soap. Even the sinks have no soap. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We found this campsite using the internet. It apparently used to be called Bellaire Woods because that is the web site we found it on. The restroom/shower combination were clean but the showers are outdated. You have to keep pushing the button every few seconds to keep the water coming and the water never did get hot. The laundry is outdated but the machines work. The staff was friendly. There is a convenience store and service station that carries diesel at the park. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Not a bad campground, tight in some spots, units are close together when slides out, just a few feet between, handy to downtown Savannah. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We stayed here 3 nights. The campground was nice and well kept. The staff was very nice and helpful. I have stayed at other campgrounds in the Savannah area and this one is no doubt the best. Would stay again when I am in that area: recommended. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Nasty unisex bathrooms with no soap or paper towels! Was told we were in lot #60; then moved us to a farther lot because we were Camp Club USA members. Did not keep to word that we could choose a different spot when we got there. Treated like white trash. No kayaks around as stated. Need soap or hand sanitizer! We camped here in a Truck Camper.
Nice site with very friendly staff. Good facilities although the swimming pool is a little strange as it is only 4 foot deep at its deepest! Great base to explore Savannah from. Well stocked shop and gas station too! We would gladly stay there again. I believe that this site is now called Savannah Oaks RV Park. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This park has new owners and the name is now Savannah Oaks RV Park. We stayed here for 2 months. It is clean, office personal is great and the park is kept up. We have a 43 foot motorhome and had no problem with trees or driving through the park. We will definitely stay again when in this area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We affirm that AT&T is dead here. My next door neighbor was dead with Sprint too. This is odd as the CG is only 3 miles off I-95. Our site (109) was very shady but near the main highway so there was some noise. The biggest disappointment was the extremely small pad and almost no patio area (which was unimproved sandy ground). Wi-Fi seems to work most of the time for our 2 days and counting. The pedestal power and cable TV were good, as well as the water pressure. So if you are planning to chat on your ATT cellphone or spend a lot of time on your patio, you should try another place. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This was our first visit to the park. First, this is not any kind of resort! The park is old and needs to have some serious work done on the sites and road network. The location is good to visit Savannah and the Savannah area. They do have some pads but they are too small to accommodate big rigs. In addition, if you have AT&T cell, forget it! There is no signal! The Wi-Fi worked one day out of three while we were here. The sites near Hwy 204 are noisy, so stay away. We camped here in a Motorhome.
After the last three reviews, we decided to stay at Savannah Oaks on our trip from southern Florida to the Pennsylvania area. Wow, what a disappointment. One review mentioned the sand sites and rain does not help with the "poor" condition of the sand. Yes, it is a very wooded Park and limbs and trees make a true test of moving a large rig to the site. The only good comment is regarding the long pull-through sites. Problems with trees, overhanging limbs, non-level sand sites, and the mosquitos, we would not return to this campground! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Savannah Oaks is a nice campground. If you are in the upper sites numbered 51 and up, you will hear road noise. The better sites were 50 - 100 down nearer the river. Plan to put your awning out and patio rug down as you will need it. The sand and leaves tracked into our RV continuously. The trees provided welcomed shade. The river walk area was very nice with a new dock/walkway. About 20 minutes into Savannah's historic district. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is a nicely wooded park with pull-through sites and a good bit of room between sites. The personnel were friendly and helpful. They offer a 10% discount for AARP and Good Sam rates. We enjoyed our stay here. There are a couple of issues you should be aware of; if you come in the gate after hours, you have to enter a code to raise the bar. DO NOT HESITATE after doing so. The bar comes down rapidly. Also, some of the sites are very near the highway, so if traffic noise is a problem for you, be sure to avoid these sites. All in all, a good park. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Rate reflects weekly rate. This is an older park, well maintained with concrete pad pull thoughs and a very friendly staff. Heavily treed, with narrow inner roads. Easy access to Savannah and Hilton Head. Only thing we didn't like was the rule they have of not allowing use of washing machines in your motorhome. They insist you use their facilities. They claim it is harmful to their septic system. Funny, their washers are on the same system. Other than that issue, and of course the ever present mosquitos we have experienced all over Florida and Georgia, the park was fine. We were here for a week. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Interior roads are generally not paved but are in good condition. The park is kept very clean and neat. The staff is very friendly and the shade of the oak trees is great in warm weather. We stay here when we visit our grandchildren so we have stayed here a number of times. We try to stay in the area down by the river but most all sites are pretty level and many are paved. Present owners bought about three years ago and are continuously improving. Don't go by reviews more than two years old. (A good rule for any CG.) You should make reservation ahead as it stays busy particularly when the 'birds are flying north or south! There are some long term RV's here which detract a little from the "resort" image but they are not really a problem. There is a nice little park next door where you can walk down to the Ogeechee River if the water is not high. The water front at the CG is actually back water from the river with access to the main river. Access to Savannah is excellent via Interstate 95 or Hwy 204. Close to many food places but still in the woods! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We used this park twice on a trip to and from Florida for its easy access to I-95. It is 2.5 miles off the interstate. We had difficulty getting cell phone signals; the wireless internet and cable were excellent. We were escorted to our sites. The first night we were near the rear of the campground where it was very quiet. The pull-through site was level dirt/sand and shaded. On our return trip we had a pull-through gravel site, nearer the front, which was level and shaded. Some road noise even though the park is bounded by a privacy fence. On our second visit there were distant booming noises from the adjacent Ft. Stewart Military Reservation all evening and into the next morning. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Very pleasant and helpful staff. Escort to site but you are on your own to get located on the extremely narrow pads. Paved sites are level but gravel ones seemed to vary. The sites along the road (which we had) got more road noise than along any interstate that we have stayed. The sites further back should be much quieter. Too many people did not pick up after their dogs and the staff was not out early enough (10 AM) to observe any of this. (I have a dog and believe if you do not want to pick up after your pet, you should stay home or get rid of it). Downtown Savannah is about 20 minutes but is very easy to get to, interstate most of the way. AT&T cell signal is almost non-existent. Too many trees for satellite but the park cable is good as is Wi-Fi. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Good location for access to Savannah, also to amenities. Friendly staff they even escorted us to our site. Fairly quiet location even though it is located near auxiliary highway. Nice nature park next door with lovely walking trails and canal. Gravel, level, shaded sites with huge oak trees. Excellent wWi-Fi and cable reception. Would return here again and recommend this for sightseeing Savannah. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We enjoyed staying in this park. The only downside is they don't allow you to use your washer/dryer. This was inconvenient since we stayed over a week. It would not keep us from not staying there again though. If you love seafood, The Shell House is great, and so is Love's Seafood. The owner's of the park recommended these two restaurants, and we ended up going to both twice. All in all, a nice park, just make sure you're up with your laundry before you get there. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The park has good access with a convenience store that sells fuel (gas and diesel) next door. There is good security, flat sites, lots of trees for shade, good wifi, good cable. The location is about 2 miles from I-95 and about 20 minutes from Savannah. The 50 amp connectors are all mounted upside down that means your cable will stick straight up instead of down. I use a surge protector that I had to tie to the post with the connection for support. There are food stores and other shopping nearby. We would stay here again. For some reason our cell phone only got one bar here but worked very well at I-95. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
A comfortable overnight stop about 2.6 miles off of I-95, this park has mostly level, gravel and dirt sites that are shaded by mature moss-draped Live Oak trees. The trees provide welcome shade and do not present any serious obstacles to general maneuvering. A discounted rate is available to Good Sam members. Both full hookup and W & E sites are available. The entry roads are hard surfaced but have several speed bumps. Most sites are narrow but adequate and many are over 65 ft long. Some sites have the utilities at the very back of the site so you may need to stretch your cables and hoses or limit your forward placement on the site if you are travelling in a motorhome, but we were able to keep the toad hooked up to a 40 ft coach on a pull thru site by using 20ft of sewer hose, a 20 ft water hose and just about all of the power cord, all stretched to the max. The shower and bath houses had private rooms, each with a shower, sink and toilet, but they were not very clean. We had very weak to no cell phone service at this location. There is a tidal inlet on the grounds and it appears that there are efforts underway to develop this asset. A new dock and bulkhead were already in place and some floating excavation equipment suggested that some dredging would be done to improve recreational water access. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The staff was very friendly and always helpful. The sites vary in size, ours was level and packed sand. The cable reception was very good. There is a convenience store/ gas station on the premises-which we found quite useful. The pool is nice and clean. As this is a well established RV park, the oaks are magnificent and provide a great relief from the Savannah heat. There is a trolley that can pick you up at the CG for some sightseeing. The CG is a short drive to shopping/food/movies, etc. The only recommendations I have: The bath houses could have been kept cleaner, but they were adequate. There is ample room for a small fenced-in dog walk-to be able to let them off leash-even for a short while, is a plus. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This RV park is ok, but is not a resort. Sites are mud and gravel. Lots of trees. If you want to launch your boat you better have a 4X4 vehicle. Good cable. WIFI has very poor coverage and was up and down a lot. People working in office didn't know anything about WIFI so when there was a problem, the owner had to be found before the problem was addressed. We paid $231 for a week. Rates are way too high. I would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
A somewhat tired park that served well for our stop on the way through. Friendly and helpfull staff, but nothing special about the sites. Close sites, but room for slide outs and the pull throughs were level. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Very friendly and professional reception apon arrival. Clean and well looked after laundry room. Easy on and off the main Highway. Restaurants very handy. Family owned establishment and you could tell they took pride in their business! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Savannah Oaks was a last minute stopover for us on the way to Florida. Our first impression of the park was that it needed a Spring clean up. The staff was friendly and helpful, the other campers were friendly and outgoing. We'd stop again if we were in the area and needed a place to to stay. You are within 20 minutes of the historic riverfront area of Savannah so all of the city's sites are close by. There is a shuttle service from the campground available. Longhorn Steak House at exit 102 off of I-95 is a definite eating stop if you are in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed at this park for two days in order to visit the area and so did not need elaborate facilities. Overall, the park is average but delivered everything that was promised. We will likely stay there again on the way back to Canada. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This park - now called Savannah Oaks RV Resort- should keep its campground designation. For $38 a night, we got a dirt pull-through with no handle on the water spigot. The site was so unlevel that we had to reverse the bedding and pillows on the bed. We were so close to the next site that we had to turn up the television so that we didn't hear every word they said - our windows and door were closed. The trees were so tight on the site that I had to climb through the passenger seat on the toad to get to the driver's seat - we couldn't open the door. We'll never stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
I have no idea why this park has not received good ratings. The new owners are great, very friendly and helpful. The park is big and spacious with gorgeous oak trees. Our site is amazing, ask for G8, it's a large pull through with a big lawned site yard, no neighbors and is very quiet. The sites are compacted sand and grass, yes we prefer paved but and it hasn't stopped raining so this is a good test, we have no mud, the water just soaks right away. The position of this park is excellent for visits into Downtown Savannah and close to hundreds of stores and restaurants. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The management may have changed in this park but otherwise it is still the same. The manager left us waiting at the office door while she visited with the adjoining convenience store. She was a nasty piece of work. The site did have a concrete pad. The picnic tables are old, made of angle iron. Mine was broken and so rusty I would be scared to have children use this table. The bathrooms are never cleaned. They only have one male worker. He is supposed to do all the work. The office does not open until 10 in the a.m. There is no WIFI at the sites but you can use the wifi in the office. While I was in the office a camper called from her cell phone wanting a site. The young girl at the desk left the call to go to the answering machine while she flirted with the pizza delivery guy. I was there more than 30 minutes and she did not return the call. The CG is full of old deserted units and lots of boomers who live in old units. Very depressing. Last night the police attended to a fight between 2 girls who work at the CG convenience store. One left in an ambulance. Very trashy place. I would never stay here again!!! We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed here for two nights while we toured Savannah. We were not really impressed with this campground and would try a different campground the next time we are in the area. The staff was sort of there, but they were not outwardly friendly or helpful. The campground is a mess and our site was fair at best - small, uneven, very little grass and a tree where our awning went out. Don't be fooled by the advertised river sites. The river is a swamp canal with alligators. The showers were large, but they were the push-timer type with not temperature control. They had a nice pool and a small playground that my kids enjoyed. They campground was very quiet. It was quite a longer drive to Savannah than I would have liked. We travel with two small children. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
A good place for overnight while traveling the interstate. Also sort of convenient to historic Savannah for sightseeing, but not much ambiance in the campground. Our site (109) was near the road and was very noisy - truck traffic all night long. We camped here in a Motorhome.
I have been here at Savannah Oaks since February 2nd 2007 (came in on a seasonal/monthly basis and plan to stay here for a year or so) and have been absolutely tickled pick with the facility. The staff is very nice, helpful and it is a very clean, quiet and well maintained park. The other seasonal campers are very friendly and offer assistance if it is needed. Internet is available for the long term campers through the cable company for standard rates or there is a free computer set up in the office area. Savannah Oaks is an upscale r.v. park and the access to local Savannah tourist areas is quick and easy. Shopping and eating is within 5 minutes at Route 95. I absolutely recommend this park to anyone wanting a peaceful quiet vacation. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This campground is a good overnight stop on the way south. The personal were friendly. They escorted me to my site and waited to see if I need assistance to hook up. In general the facilities were adequate, but not anything special. The ground cover was gravel mixed with dirt. Even so, they were better than last year when we stayed here. The campground was quiet except or some road noise from n adjacent rod early in the evening. Although I didn't use the showers or restrooms, they seemed to be in satisfactory condition. One problem if you have children, there didn't seem to be much to keep them entertained here, although it is close to Savannah, where there is a lot to see and do. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This park is in a decent location but has many things going against it. The streets are tight and the sites are very narrow. We were unable to open our slide without hitting the neighbor's awning until we moved the motorhome. The cable TV signal was poor, there is no wifi, and there is no cell phone coverage from Cingular. We camped here in a Motorhome.
From the start our experience was fantastic. The staff was friendly, wide, shady sites, and a great playground for my son to play on. We rode a trolley from the campground to downtown and we had a blast. On our way home we will definitely stop here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Nice wide spaces. Very friendly staff. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Bellaire Woods is now known as Savannah Oaks RV Resort. The campground is apparently old and has changed ownership over the years. The park is mostly shaded with very old established water oaks. Unfortunately with the tree cover, there is no way to have grassy sites. The motorhome sites (we were in 109) have concrete paving only 8' 6" wide by approximately 40' long. Outside of that and you are on sandy soil or crusher run base material. Signage within the park is poor. In general, the park could use a great deal of modernization and maintenance but was acceptable for the price. The use of a portable dish is a must if you wish to have satellite TV or internet. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We had stayed here about 6 years ago when it was Bellaire Woods and experienced the nasty owner that everyone has talked about. It is now Savannah Oaks RV Resort. We decided to give it another try since it is under new ownership. When checking in, the girls in the office were polite and helpful. If there was someone in the office, the gate was opened for us when we reentered the park otherwise we had to use a code. Work is being done to upgrade the park; we saw a new pool and playground. Their sites however are average at best. We were on site 35. It was fairly level but barely wide enough to accommodate a triple slide MH. We had to jockey around to get it situated just right between trees and the power pole. The sites are paved with a large gravel stone which is uncomfortable to walk on barefoot. We were there for 5 days and did not see the bath house cleaned once. The floors were dirty and there was not any toilet paper in one. At $34.75 a night, I would not stay here again unless I heard they have made improvements to the sites. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed here overnight passing though. We didn't use any of their facalties as we only stayed there one night. The check in was fast but make sure you call ahead of time as they require reservations. I only rated this as a 7 since we never used anything at the campground and we are unsure what the faculties are like. There was a escort to the campsite. We camped here in a Motorhome.
I think it should be noted that the campground is under new ownership since the past reviews. I have heard horror stories of the last owners from frequent visitors of the campground and they are tickled pink with the new ownership and the changes made. They even changed the name to Savannah Oaks RV Resort. We found the sites nice with a variety of views. A new pool was just finished and we even saw a few Barred Owls. The dock by the river could use some reinforcement, but overall it was a nice place. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Staff was friendly, no problems encountered like in previous posts. Gave 10% discount for cash payment. We only stayed 1 night on our way south in Dec. 2005. Hookups were adequate, but no breakers on 50A plug and outlet cover was missing (possible electrocution hazard in wet weather) Park was quiet with some year-round guests. Easy to enter with a big rig and tow vehicle. Exiting the park was difficult due to wide U-turn getting back towards I-95. Park was about 25 mins from downtown Savannah. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is the worst campground I have ever been in. The owner is a Legend in his own mind. My feelings when I got here was he could care less if you stayed here or not. He was very rude. If you need someone who watches over you, someone who thinks everyone wants to steal something from him. Tells you speed limit is 5 miles and he goes 20 because he says, "I own the park." Raise your hood, he runs over to you asking are you changing the oil. He threatens you even before you get in, to throw you out. If you are vacationing, this is not peace and quiet. The website is misleading the lake looks more like the black logoon, with the creature coming out any minute. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Shady sites nestled among mature trees. Very friendly staff who will guide you to your site and spot for you as you back in. Some sites are a challenge to get into with a big rig due to trees etc. There is a small boat dock, ramp and boardwalk. Not for swimming - alligators. They also provide a cleaning table for those who choose to fish. Savannah is about a 20 minute drive from this park. Access from I95 is easy (2 miles west) and there is an RV dealer with service bays one junction south on I95. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

I am a prior Marine who has traveled worldwide and I can say without hesitation these
owners were some of the rudest most out of control individuals I have ever met. And that includes people who have shot at me and spit on me in different places where I was deployed. Abusive is the only word that can accurately describe the attitude of the owner and some staff. I finally left after 3 weeks opting to cut short my monthly with no refund. The showers were so poor two weeks into my stay I bought a gym membership to get a decent shower. The pay phones were ripped out 3 weeks into my stay after the payphone owners pulled one p****** off the owner so he demanded they all be pulled out and the internet access he advertises is pretty much non existant. If he were to go out on a corner and conduct himself in the same manner he does in his park he would go home in a box. He doesn't think twice about cursing at you repeatedly when you've done nothing but make the mistake of walking in when he is angry with someone else. I would stay at Wal Mart or a truck stop before I would ever stay there again. Actually I would never stay there again period. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

The only redeeming factor this cg has it shade and its proximity to Savannah. I have never seen owners, managers and employees as rude anywhere in my life. When I checked in, the woman checking us in was having an argument on the phone with someone, not caring that there were customers waiting. This is one place I'd never go back to. I clicked on their website here and notice it wouldn't come up. That is a good thing. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Woman at desk was very regimented and like one other person's comment like a Top Sargent. Not friendly at all. Rules and Regulation speech on everything you could not do. Lot of dumb rules. Lots of terrible stupid LARGE speed bumps everywhere and uncalled for. Office closes at 7:30 with no availability for late check-in's. Coed bathrooms at least in our area. Thumbs down. Would not stay there again. I don't think they realize that it is the customers that keep them in business. Maybe not for long at there wasn't that many campers there. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Old fish camp on one side - needs work - bad. Other side is nice, large live oak trees to park under. Bathrooms and showers were clean - needs work. Large number of speed bumps - hard on large motor homes. Staff needs to understand we are a customers and not a soure of money. Gate code is changed every day and office is closed at 7:30 pm if do not have the new code you are locked out, hard to get to code box from car. Modem line in office is open at 10:00 am and I was told (you have 3 mins.) People are very impolite and need to think that we may come back some day. No work on anything on site, this is due to people own a repair shop next door and would not like to see lost dollars if you fixed a small item. Lot of dumb rules!!! O.K. for a stop over and then move on. We camped here in a camper.

Misleading ad, took our reservation over the phone but would not take my credit card (thank goodness) and the office closes at 7:30. That was not made known at the time of reservation and there are no late check ins. Owner was absolutely unreasonable, unprofessional, a liar, crooked scam artist. Aside from being rude, demeaning, unpleasant looking (good location was the only good thing we found). Took your money then found a reason to kick you out without refunding your money. This business can't live long. Needless to say we will not return and don't recommend it to anyone at any cost. We camped here in a camper.

Was treated very rude. Will not permit towing your 'dingy' into the campground: was first told that they didn't want you to tear up your car then told that they didn't want you to tear up their roads. Was practially yelled at because I started through the gate before they were ready to lead me to the campsite. Office closes at 7:30 P.M. with no means of contact with anyone in case of an emergency. Narrow uneven campsites and non covered electrical hookups with no breakers present at my campsite. Another camper told me that he had been there for a couple of weeks and was going to leave because of the rudeness of management. We camped here in a camper.

The campground is pretty nice but the owners/staff are rude. When we checked in, the gal gave her "rules & regulations" speech and additional information in a very curt, "top-sargent" manner. Upon returning from town, the owner rudely yelled at us when we were keying in the entry code at the gate - he wanted to know just who we were. When I answered, he rudely told me to put the hang tag on the mirror so he could see it!! Not wishing to advertise that we were tourists any more than we had to, we had taken it off - besides, it interferes with driving - and had forgotten to replace it. If we had more time to visit, I would have chosen to go to the Hunting Island CG or another place because I had read about the rudeness in the RV forum but this was handy for us and we were tired and ready to stop. I would not choose it again. We camped here in a camper.

Nice park but as the previous posts said, the RUDEST owner I have ever seen in 5 years of fulltiming. Extremely obnoxious, yelled at me while checking the wiring on our tow vehicle, he insisted I was violating the "no working on vehicles rule". Another time that afternoon while we were exiting the campground in our car to go to dinner, he came careening around a corner on a tractor paying no attention to what he was doing and almost hit us. We had seen him coming and stopped. But he started yelling obscenities at how stupid we were, even though we were going the correct way on the one way and he wasn't. I guess we were stupid for staying at his park, but we have wised up and will never again go there. We camped here in a camper.

Belaire Woods could be a pleasant park if it were not for the RUDE and OBNOXIOUS owner. If you have the misfortune of paying for a month, you are required to pay a $100.00 deposit on your site that is NOT refundable on your departure. Instead he insists that it will be mailed to your home address SEVEN business days AFTER your departure. If you step outside your camper, expect him to ride by on his police patrol golf cart, making sure you understand that he will not tolerate even a raised vehicle hood. The morning we left he was THIRTY MINUTES late opening his office. He saw us waiting, however, he ignored us an additional FIFTEEN MINUTES while he went inside and had his morning coffee. We assumed the office was open when he flipped the Closed sign on the door to Open and we heard the door being unlocked. Once inside we were rudely interrogated as to the reason for our departure. I cannot imagine anyone making the mistake of staying at Belaire Woods more than once. ONCE IS MORE THAN ENOUGH!! We camped here in a camper.

The camp ground was ok, good location. The owner was very, very rude. He stressed very strong that if you drove more than five (5) miles per hour that we would be kicked out with no refund. Then he got on his golf cart and said to follow him, and ran off and left us, when we did not see where he turned and did not turn he asked if we were to stupied to follow directions. He then put us in between two long time residents. The electrical circit breaker tripped while we were there and he said if we tripped it again we would have to do with out electricity. We have been camping for more than 25 years and this is the rudest person we have every had to deal with. We camped here in a camper.

While the campground was OK, the owner was rude and inconsiderate. Made us wait at the gate for approx. 20 minutes while he rode around the park in his golf cart. When I requested a refund he denied it (a sign clearly stated NO Refunds) then lied to me that he was getting a unit moved out of the space that I was to occupy. The only tire tracks in that site were made by my unit, and the park was almost empty. I will not go back to that park. We camped here in a camper.
I can honestly say that this is one of the most beautiful campgrounds that I have ever stayed in. The layout is impressive and was obviously designed with a lot of thought. I took away one point only because all of the sites are not big rig friendly despite being advertized as 50' pull through. That being said, there are plenty of sites and very few tight spots and, if you drive cautiously, you'll be good to go. The proximity to Savannah is excellent and the downtown area has parking garages that will accommodate large tow vehicles. The rate reflects a senior citizen discount, which they extend to all seniors, not just Georgia residents. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Staff was friendly and helpful. There are paved roads, level sites, and water and electric were good. Showers and restrooms were clean. Great hiking trails. Enjoyable stay other than big red ants flooded our RV climbing up the water hose. We camped here in a Motorhome.
One of the best campgrounds we know of. You camp in a forest where Spanish moss hangs from the trees. Some sites are mostly sunny which is nice in winter and spring but later you appreciate all the shade you get. Sites are spacious and offer good privacy. No sewer on sites. What we like best is the 14 day stay limit, so you have no permanents camping here. Wi-Fi is only at the rangers office that's our reason for the 9 instead of a 10 rating. Staff is very friendly. It is very quiet at night. Comfort house 3 is new, the others are also clean and well maintained. The rate doesn't reflect the 5$ parking fee you have to pay once to enter the park. We'll come again for sure. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Very nice park in a very nice area. Couldn't be more pleased, would go back again. Lots to do in the Savannah area. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Our stay at Skidaway Island State Park was amazing. The park is so beautiful! Heavily treed with live oaks dripping with Spanish moss and inhabited by lots of squirrels. The camping slips were large and spread out. There are some slips with 50 amp service and all have water, cable and fire ring; however, none are full hook up. This was our first experience with a dump station. It was centrally located and easy to use. We purchased a honey wagon for this 2 week stay and it offered a lot of convenience for not moving our 40’ motor coach. I had read a few reviews that this campground was not big rig friendly, and I disagree. The roadways were well laid out and nicely maintained. The only thing I would mention is the loop we stayed in (the first loop) did not indicate a direction and frequently rigs came head to head and one would have to back up. We stayed in slip 5. We did not utilize the convenience stations, although we did look at the first two and they were clean but older. They are in the process of building a third convenience station in camping area 4. The trails were great for hiking and biking and in addition, there is a paved path virtually around the entire island. Bring your bug spray and enjoy this outdoor haven. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice park with paved roads and sand/dirt/grass sites that are level with lots of room to get in and out of. The roads appear to be tight but you can get through without a problem. They have a limited number of 50 amp hook ups and they have signs at them asking those who don't really need 50 amp to take another site, but when they're close to full it all goes out the window. Sites are large with a fire ring and picnic table. Showers are hot with good pressure. There is Wi-Fi up at the office. Verizon and MiFi work well. Nice trails, a cool skeleton of a Giant Sloth, and the remains of several old stills. Well located to go into downtown Savannah and Ft. Pulaski. It's pretty quiet but on some nights to can hear the far distant thump of artillery from the bases in the area. Almost sounds like distant thunder, but on a clear night you can discount the thunder theory. We camped here in a Motorhome.
As others have said, this place is great. We had a huge site and all sites are secluded from the one next to it. The only draw back to this park is the lack of assigned sites. While they ask when you check in to occupy 50 amp sites only if you need that type of service, there were several tents and pop-up's in those sites. In addition some sites are not conducive to large 5th wheels or motorhomes, and as a result some campers who arrived late were forced into small sites because the park was full. I believe they should charge based on the service you want and assign sites based on the equipment you have. We would stay at this campground again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Our things to add to the GLOWING reviews for this great campground are: - nice-looking rangers patrol in gold carts; gate locks & closes at night (you get a security code) - you can have campfires, but don't bring wood they a big pack here for $6 - Well-constructed bathhouses with exhaust fans + INCREDIBLE water pressure in showers (you may actually have to turn it down or it stings!) - one of the 3 bathhouses is being renovated right now - so brand new ones are coming soon - washer/dryer costs only $1 but only 1 ea machine at each bathhouse - your sat. dish prob won't work / trees (park does have basic cable ~ 13 channels, works well) - AT&T phone works pretty well; Verizon pegged (on both phone and MiFi / 4 bars) - suggest you break out the bug spray and hose out a perimeter on the ground around your rig - we tried to get in on a Friday night, big mistake - no spots avail AT ALL till Sunday night {make reservations on-line, works very well}. Excellent space layout, very private {nobody within 100 feet of us at least!}, good water and power, great showers, easy to maneuver in/out, cheap! This place is worth coming to - don't miss it. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This has to be the most beautiful state park that we have camped. The sites are all pull though and have electric, water and cable TV. The sites are all large and have a pad and/or a tent pad, and fire ring. The bathrooms and showers are clean and comfortable. Access to Savannah is easy. It is an area with much traffic but still easy to travel around. The park is a great stopover park and if sites are available for an extended stay, a great place for a longer vacation. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is the best campground we have ever seen. Gorgeous, spacious sites, quite a distance from neighboring rigs, with clean restrooms and showers, friendly staff, easy access to downtown Savannah, wildlife, nature trails, a great paved bike route, and more... We stayed 5 days and hated to leave. No Wi-Fi in campsites, but it's available at the park office, a short bike ride from the campsite. Idyllic. Everything I imagined in an RV campsite. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is undoubtedly the best state park we have ever found. The sites are spacious and not jammed together. All sites are pull-through, which is a huge plus. Sewer connection is the only thing missing, but a dump station is available. Nice shade trees and a very quiet environment. Handy to downtown Savannah and the other islands in the area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Georgia has some of the greatest State Parks and this is one of them. Very friendly Hosts, Quiet in the evening, Great Nature walks, a small Nature museum that is very interesting. Have stayed here twice and both times were very enjoyable. If you go, be sure to take a trip to the Marine Aquarium at the College. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Great State Park! This was not our first stay here. Park is always very clean. The park employees are very friendly and helpful. The several walking trails are beautiful. Spotted 2 deer watching us as we walked, and saw several birds in the salt marsh. We will go back again! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Georgia State Park that is more like a commercial RV park (in a good way). Good electric, water and cable TV at this State Park, no Wi-Fi that we could find even though other reviewers had it. We were camped in loop #2 and used our portable Hot Spot since cell service was fine. Great level parking spots, spotless bath house with one washer and dryer at each bath house. Located on acres and acres of park land with lots to do and only a short drive to Savannah's historic district. The park office sells basic camping supplies and the ranger we talked to was very helpful and friendly. Would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
What a beautiful park to stay. Literally surrounded by trees the sites are spacious and way apart from each other. Good level and good access to hookups (electric, water, TV-cable). Dump station on the way out. No Wi-Fi except at the entrance office, that's why we don't rate it a 10. But there are nice trails, bikes for rent, an interpretive site and very friendly and helpful rangers. We stayed two weeks in total and it was always quiet and pleasant (even on Labor day, when every site was occupied). Washrooms and showers were clean, a little dated though. It's a 20 minute drive to the Savannah historic district but only 3 minutes to a Krogers supermarket. We already look forward to coming back in November. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
The huge trees with lots of Spanish moss and the other thick vegetation make this a beautiful park, plus we saw deer, squirrels, lizards, and birds. The GPS got us close, then we just followed the brown signs. Recommend entering the intersection of Diamond Causeway and State Park Road. We were really excited about a state park with cable TV but half the stations didn't come in at all, and half the ones we got were so fuzzy we couldn't watch them. Then the first night, a thunderstorm completely knocked out the TV, and it didn't come back (at our site anyway) until the last of the 6 nights we were there. But we didn't care, because the park was so beautiful. We didn't even mind having to unhook and go to the sewer dump, although it was a little inconvenient. The sites are all shapes and sizes, but all are beautiful, level, spacious, and shady. It was so very quiet and peaceful. Downtown Savannah and Tybee Island are both just short drives away. The roads in the park are very nicely paved. They have a pool, but it was closed. The restroom was typical for state park - basic cinder block with shower curtains - but clean with good pressure and lots of hot water. The staff was happy, relaxed, friendly, helpful, accommodating. I would definitely stay here again, and want to bring all my friends and family. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice quiet campground with plenty of shade trees with spanish moss. Just a beautiful southern plantation setting. All sites are pull-through and level. Heavy rain with localized flood warnings the first night, but sites drained well and quickly. Be aware of trees if you have slides, as some sites are difficult to park/maneuver. Not many campers when we were here and the pool was closed. Second night, the camper next to us played loud music until 2am. Not sure if anyone complained but no music after that. It was extremely hot and humid so didn't spend much time outside. We used the campground as base for touring local sites. Convenient to Savannah and Tybee Island and 2 hours from Charleston. Only negative was that there were plenty of insects and we ended up with ants in our camper. Recommend plenty of bug spray. Overall liked the campground and would stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Wonderful heavily wooded, very shaded campground with very large pull through gravel and dirt sites. RV sites are generally level and have a very large raised tent pad, fire pit and picnic table. Roads are asphalt and wind through the trees. Some very large rigs may have difficulty maneuvering through the roads in a few places so be alert. Camp hosts are doing a great job on keeping sites and roadways clean. When we were there, it appeared that the pool had not been opened yet. It is convenient to the Savannah downtown area. Wi-Fi hotspot was available at the park office. There were not a lot of washers and dryers at the campground, so if you need to do a lot of washing, you may have to wait on ocassion or go to a washateria in the area. We would definitely stay here again when in the area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Good level spots among large trees. Sites are gravel/leaves. Wi-Fi is via hotspot at ranger station. Not much to do around the campground, but this is a great place to camp to visit Savannah. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is now our favorite state campground. The sites are HUGE and some are quite secluded from others. Our only problem was finding a SAT signal for our Windguard Carryout, but we did manage to finally get one. There are lots of trees, so big rigs need to be careful driving thru the smaller roads in the park. And they do have cable TV at each site. You are quite close to Savannah and Tybe Island. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This large state park borders part of the Intracoastal Waterway and offers well-spaced pull through sites. About half of the sites offer 50-amp power, while the remainder have 30-amp. There are no sites with sewer access. Cable TV is provided, offering a high-quality signal of approximately 15 major channels. The park offers several trails which allow visitors access to maritime forest and salt marshes. This pastoral setting is within 10 miles of downtown Savannah, and makes a superb base for exploring the city. If you intend to camp here over a weekend, I suggest that you reserve a site in advance. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This campground is great! Big generous sites that are almost all pull-throughs. Popular with everyone from families to retired couples, tent campers, pop-ups, travel trailers, fifth wheelers, and big Class As. Lots of bike riding opportunities, and plenty of space for walking dogs, etc. Grocery store is 5 minutes away and downtown Savannah is about a 20 minutes drive. Lots of shade. Would give this place a "10" but shower stalls lack hooks to hang clothes and towel, and no place to put soap and shampoo but on the floor. BUT... there's cable TV! Would go back there for sure. Highly recommend. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Previous reviews have covered most items. Be sure and take your rake as the sites are covered with leaves and the various critters that live in them. Nice self guided nature walk. We stayed here three days and were able to go into Savannah in about 15 minutes using the Truman Roadway. Tybee Island is a short drive. If you go be sure to see the fort and climb the lighthouse for the view. There is a public parking lot and a nice beach across from the lighthouse. However, if you purchase the Lighthouse / Museum ticket, you can park at the lighthouse parking lot for free. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is a great campground. The sites are large and all pull throughs. Peaceful and quiet are the words I would use to describe this CG. Restrooms and showers are older but very clean. Water pressure in the shower was excellent as was the HOT water. Laundry facility is only a washer and dryer with no where to hang up clothes. However it cost only $1.00 each to use. Close to Savannah with good roads and easy access. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We love Skidaway, very pet friendly, huge level sites, friendly staff, clean restrooms. Easy access to downtown Savannah. We're always made to feel at home. Always a pleasure to return. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Skidaway Island State Park is a beautiful setting with well-marked trails for hiking through a southern woods to a lookout on the intracoastal. Reservations do not identify a specific site -- it's first come, first served -- we were glad to have arrived shortly after check in time at 1 p.m. All sites, mostly spacious, are pull thru, but the paved campground roads tend to be narrow and some sites have overhanging limbs that make them unfriendly for Big Rigs. The drive from I-95 is too long for just an overnight, but this park makes a great location from which to base several days of Savannah touring. Wi-Fi was available at the park office pavilion but not at the sites. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We got the Senior discount at this park. It's in a beautiful area, about fifteen miles from Savannah. The upkeep leaves something to be desired, but the sites are beautiful. Staff all around are helpful and friendly. Some guided tours are available in the park and there's a small museum in the Interpretive Center. We had made reservations via phone and were allowed to pick our own site from the ten available at the time. Don't forget to visit the Fort Pulaski National Monument when you're here. It's truly a gem. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We have no complaints about this park. It was a very nice stay. Every spot is big. The pool is closed due to money shortage. The trails are nice, but a lot of roots so be careful on a bike. The showers are old, but work good. If your out pass 10pm you can get back in with a gate code (it took me forever to get a answer to that question). There is Truman parkway right down the road that starts here and ends in downtown Savannah. Takes 15 min. Kroger is up the road. Its not for a over night stay from I-95 to far, about 30 min. It was also sold out when we were here. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Beautiful large sites. Campground was only about one-half full. On-site laundry for $1 was much appreciated. Easy drive to sites in Savannah. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is a great state park. Large sites, water, electric, and cable. 20 minutes drive into Savannah. Stayed here twice in February on the way to Florida and back. Will stay here again because it makes some private parks look bad. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We chose this campground for its proximity to Savannah. We were pleasantly surprised by the large private sites. We'll definitely plan to return the next time we're in the Savannah area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
The state park is great with some wonderful trails which are great for children, they are very flat and well maintained. The playgrounds in the park are great as well. The campground is large and the spots are spread out with plenty of trees, they are fairly level. Nice fire rings and picnic tables are at every site, of course a sewer hookup would be nice. It is a little tight maneuvering through the park so those with big rigs should be cautious but you can do it. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We camped here 5 nights: our site was primo! The easiest set up we have had: a large lot that was level, with beautiful trees. A very quiet campground. Was a very easy drive on the Harry Truman parkway to Savannah each day. The last day we stayed at camp and walked the trails at Skiddaway. The bathrooms were clean, the rangers were very helpful. Can't say enough good things. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We stayed here a week during our second stay at Skidaway S.P. The tall trees and Spanish moss make you think you are camping in the forest, but just outside the gate is all Savannah has to offer. Historic downtown is about 20 minutes away, you will find a Wal-Mart Super center 6 miles up the road, and a Kroger Store is just 3 miles from the gate. The sites are very large giving you privacy, plus the park was only 20% full while we were there in December. Our Verizon Air card worked well while camping here. The Comfort Stations are a bit old, but extremely clean; they even smell clean, and they are heated during cold weather. There is one washer and dryer located outside and at $1 per load, its a bargain. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They have a small camp store in the office, not for milk and bread, but it does offer some interesting items for children. Be sure to visit their Interpretive Center while you are there. The price we paid was with a Senior discount of 20% and they do charge a one-time entrance fee of $5 for your stay. We definitely will return. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Second time we have stayed here. Very nice paved roads, big lots. Good showers, but not new. Cable TV was great. There were too many trees for satellite TV reception. Shopping close by. Hilton Head Island, SC is an easy commute to big outlet malls and good restaurants. We camped here in a Motorhome.
A very nice park. Very wooded, sites had large areas and it felt very private. No sewer connections, but the dump station was well equipped. Lighting at night was very minimal and it was dark! Sites were a "C" off the road as a pull through. Park had recycle bins. It is located about 30 minutes from downtown Savannah. Stayed here 3 days and would stay again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is a beautiful park! All spaces are huge. You feel like you have your own yard. Walking trails are excellent. Interpretive center even has an alligator you can pet. We were "stuck" here with an axle problem. Ha, stuck, what a better place. Make sure to do Paula Deen's and Mrs. Wilkes! Thanks y'all. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Excellent park located outside Savannah. We had a beautiful large site amid live oaks. Close enough to visit the sights of Savannah but far away enough to be quiet and peaceful. Great park! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Skidaway Island State Park is a great place to stay if you like some Georgia shade under the oaks. Site’s for motor homes appear to be all pull through and they are organized in nice manner. It might be hard to recognize how to park after dark without reviewing the way other motor homes are parked. I didn’t bother to make a reservation in August and there were plenty of spaces available. 50 amp power is available on selected sites only so if that is important study the map. Park is about 12 miles from downtown to the south east and allows you to feel you are really out close to the marshes even though there are very nice residential areas nearby. I will stay there again if visiting the Savannah area however if just passing through for the evening would probably bypass this state park for something closer to I-95. Park staff very nice and helpful. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Wonderfully large, pull-through lots. Despite a significant amount of rain while we were at this campground, there was a noticeable lack of puddles and bugs. The towering oaks with the hanging Spanish moss are impressive. Bathrooms were OK, not great - they could use some updating. The park was less than half full when we arrived early on a Friday afternoon, and there were still many empty spots over the weekend, so July is apparently not their busy season. It was about half an hour drive from the campground to fabulous Tybee Beach, where our family spent quite a bit of time. I'd camp here again, but my husband wants something closer to the ocean if we are going to spend that much time on the beach. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
We used this park as an overnight stop. It has a lot of trails, and things to do, but we were short on time. We did bike the 3 mile loop trail, that has the lookout tower on it, and it was quite nice. No sewer hookups, but we dumped at the dump station on our way out. It was raining when we showed up, so we got a lot of dirt and leaves in our rig, but that was not unnexpected. The sites are all very shady, and the staff was very helpful. The one thing we noticed, was that the roads are pretty narrow. My birdwatching wife spotted 3 birds she hadn't seen before. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed here 5 nights while we visited sites around and in Savannah. Skidaway campground is heavily wooded. Has a number of trails. Most of the campsites are pull throughs as a loop off of the campground roads. Care must be taken for some sites, since there are large trees along the campground road making tight conditions. The campground is very quiet, with little road noise heard. Frogs and toads were the noisiest creatures we heard at night. The entrance gate is closed at night, but you are given a gate entry code for late return to the campground. The shower rooms are old, but cleaned daily. WiFi internet is available 24 hours a day near the campground check-in office. There are no sites with sewer hookups, but there is a dump station. A very natural and scenic campground with much space between the sites. A campground host is on site. There are some washers and dryers at the shower/rest room buildings. There is a nature center for the kids, along with the various nature trails. We found that over the air TV reception was better than the provided cable TV hookup. Our daily rate included a discount for being senior citizens. We could drive to downtown Savannah in about 20 minutes from the campground. There is a gas station and grocery store within a mile of the state park entrance. Skidaway Island Campground is now on our top campgrounds to visit list. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We had a wonderful time. Most of the sites had tree cover and the bugs weren't too bad. Some of the roads are tight to maneuver in a large rig. Sites are level and have adequate privacy. Some sites that are pull-thru sites will require you to go the wrong way in the loop to allow your shore power connection to be on the same side as the power/water pole. We will return as this is a very convenient park to Tybee Island. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is a great park with huge sites, reliable 50 amp electric. The restrooms were fairly clean, but old and not always well stocked. Laundry was inexpensive. The only problem was narrow roads. They were put in around the trees and in some places very difficult to navigate with a large rig. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We like the state parks - they are cheaper and much prettier overall than their commercial counterparts. And this one was pretty too, and we enjoyed the hiking/biking trails. However, I preferred our stay at Crooked River. But if you want to be in the Savannah area, this is a good spot. As with Crooked River (and maybe all the GA state parks), there are only a few 50amp sites, and not all spots will fit 40ft rigs, so plan to get there early if you want those things! Also, beware of Wormsloe Plantation!! The history of Noble Jones is very interesting, and the movie they show is quite good, but if you take a camera that looks like it cost you more than $500, they will ding you $25 for a photography permit, even if you're NOT a pro looking to sell your photos (and that's on top of the $5/person entry fee)!!!!!!!!!!! I was shocked and felt ripped-off, and I wasn't the only visitor that felt that way, trust me! I ended up just taking in my cheaper point and shoot, but if my hubby hadn't been with me, I probably would've just left! Also, if you're into alligators like I am, then visit the Savannah NWR! A 4-mile drive along rice fields with gators in or around the irrigation canals! Very pretty and fun spotting the gators!! The CG price reflects a senior discount. We camped here in a Motorhome.
What a great park! But if you take the wrong road to get there it's almost suicidal with low trees overhanging the road!! Check your directions carefully. Once in the park, there are lots of large, fairly heavily treed sites. Most, if not all, sites are pull throughs. We camped in a 42 footer with a tow and had to break the two to navigate through the campground to find a suitable site. Very nice people at check in and a very quiet, clean park. Would recommend and will stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Skidaway Island is a great state park within easy driving distance of Savannah and Tybee Island. The park is heavily wooded with large clean sites with each containing a sanded tent platform, picnic table, and fire ring. Selecting sites at this park is first come first serve. Your reservation only guarantees you'll get a site. We arrived on a Saturday around 2pm during the month of April and only had to drive around a few times till we found a site that would accommodate our rig which is 32 feet. All of the sites would accommodate smaller rigs in the 20 foot range however larger rigs in the 40 foot range would be well advised to arrive early. There is no sewer at the sites but a dump station is available. A portable holding tank is useful if you're going to be at the park more than a few days. Electricity was constant and without surges. The swimming pool was closed during our visit as others have mentioned. The park contains several excellent nature trails and a bike path is nearby. The rate indicated was the senior rate as we had one in our party for this trip. The only negative we found with this park is the lack of sewer connections at the site but for the price our expectations were exceeded. We will definitely be going back to this park the next time we visit the area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is a beautiful park! Many of the sites are pull-through and each site has a tent pad, picnic table and fire ring. The trees are beautiful with a lot of hanging Spanish Moss which creates a lot of shade. The roads going into and within the campground can be navigated by most RVs. We saw a 42' tag axle RV in the park, so it was obviously not a problem for it to navigate. There are many birds, and we even heard an owl the night we were here. This is a great park to ride bikes in, with plenty of places to ride. It is a good idea to make a reservation. We had a reservation, but the couple in line at the registration desk in front of me did not have one and were turned away. You are guaranteed a spot with a reservation, but not a specific spot. You get a list of available sites and you just drive and pick the one you want. Just a note, though, we camped after the area had a lot of rain, so there were many sites with mud where you would have to pull the camper through. Otherwise, you should be fine. We actually had a site, #47, that was huge. What might be a drawback to some, was that the dump station was actually along one side of the site. It was never a problem for us, since the site was so huge. Also, there were a lot of biting gnats during the day this time of the year, but with bug spray, it wasn't a problem. We can't wait to come back here again. It was very peaceful and very beautiful! We camped here in a Motorhome.
This campground is interesting. The sites are big, but, you have to go through early and find your site that you think you can get your RV and TV in. A lot of sites are tough for big RV's to get into. Very quiet campground, and very nice. March and April are the busiest times. There are a lot of trees, and they kind of put the campground in around the trees, which is cool. Very nice campground, and I would come back. You will drive around for awhile until you find a nice spot. Get there early!! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We have stayed here 3 different times. Nice paved roads thru out the park, campsites are parallel to the road, allowing very easy pull-through. Tall pines and old live oaks thru out the RV sites providing beauty and shade. Sites are very well spread out. Good hiking trails, excellent place to walk your dog. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is the third year we stayed at this park and we continue to find it one of the nicest state parks we've ever stayed in. All sites are water/electric/cable pull throughs, but none have sewer connections. The sites are spacious and well shaded although we had no trouble setting up satellite TV on a tripod. Savannah is about 13 miles away via a limited access highway. Savannah is simply an exquisite city, a pleasure to visit. In the last half of February, the park was sparsely occupied, but by mid March it becomes quite busy, especially for the wildly popular St. Patrick's Day celebration in Savannah. The price reflects an age 62+ discount of 20%, regardless of residency. We will definitely stay here again when in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Great park! Beautiful! Section 1 was closed for construction and the cable was out. Every site had its own private lake (large mud puddle) from a lot of rain, but the water soaked in fast. Over all it is a nice park, but they need to add gravel for the low sites. Showers were old, but well maintained. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This was sort of an odd campground. Very pretty, and well kept but put together odd. All the sites are pull thru, but of all different sizes. They let you drive around until you find an open site that you can get into and just park. The roads are narrow and run both ways, so you have to be careful of not running into someone coming the opposite direction because there is not always a place to go as it is very tight. Some turns are very tight if you are towing or a larger rig. You usually have to go around the loops to get lined up for the dump. It is a nice park, but would not rush back to camp there again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Extra one-time entry charge of $5. Good value; helpful rangers. Heavily wooded. Cable needed and supplied. Good walking trails. We enjoyed being there. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Great walking trails, large sites, pleasant and helpful staff. Beautiful surroundings. Would definitely camp here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Really nice park! Possibly the closest and most convenient campground to downtown Savannah. Big lots with plenty of room and kept very clean. Great walking trails. Just a beautiful campground to stay and relax in! We will be back. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Agree with the other positive reviews. Interesting CG with lots of privacy. Satellite is impossible except on a couple of sites. The cable they provide is bad. Few channels (8?) and those were barely watchable. That's OK though...sit outside and enjoy the beautiful forest. We'll be back We camped here in a Motorhome.
I have mixed feelings about this park. I have never seen a campground set up like this before. All the sites are pull throughs located parallel to the road. Yes, many of the sites are spacious and some, depending on which side of the road you are camped, are private. Many larger rigs do camp here but the location of trees within the site make it impossible to pull through some sites. Some of them would have to be backed into/out of. Campground loops are two way with very narrow roads with trees close to the road and I am not sure what would happen if 2 rigs met each other. They do have a large parking lot where you can disconnect and drive through which is a big hassle for a 5th wheel. Camp hosts did not interact with campers. Comfort stations (bathhouses) are old but clean. Dump station is located in a weird location. We had to exit our loop and drive all the way around the park to access it because it is in the middle of the park, not on the way out. Not sure if we would stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This campground was located close to the beach, and very enjoyable. The sites were not always level, and the sand got everywhere. Overall, a good experience. We camped here in a Motorhome.
As we travel, we very carefully evaluate RV Parks. We rely on other opinions too, and we have not been let down. So when we say Skidaway Island State Park is a 10, we mean it. Pulling into the park the first time, after driving through the upscale and wonderful scenery of this island, we still weren't prepared for the wonder of Skidaway Island State Park. It's truly like being in Savannah without the houses, noise, and sight-seeing trolleys. Each site has it's own seclusion filled with shady trees with hanging moss. We were welcomed by friendly park staff, and we were able to select our own site. We enjoyed our 3 day stay, would return without hesitation. Although, they only have electrical and water at each site, the dump area is easy and close. If you are in the Savannah area, be sure to stay at this great RV Park. If you are traveling by car, drive through, and enjoy. Great for walking too. Staff has good directions for driving into the Historical district of Savannah, about 12 miles away. Be sure to following the scenic route of the two choices given on the driving instruction sheet. Their suggestion to park at the Visitor's Center worked perfectly for us. RVs are welcomed at the Center. We were able to catch the sight-seeing trolley in their parking lot. Great area, great park. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Stayed here while attending a convention in Savannah. We were pleasantly surprised with this campground. The pull through sites were all quite manageable. Although you really have to be on your toes getting a big rig around the trees. The trees were amazing. Our biggest problem was not the campground's fault. Savannah in July is oppressively hot. The campsites were very spacious and not on top of your neighbors. We would definitely go back. Hopefully during a cooler time of year. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The park swimming pool is closed due to budget cuts. The hiking trails are nice and the staff is very friendly and professional. The sites are big, and spacious and some give you privacy. The bathrooms are very clean and well maintained. The showers were very clean as well. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Nice GA State Park under large oak and pine trees. This park has the most shade you will find anyplace. New asphalt roads in park make a great place to ride your bikes. Roads are flat and level. Sites are a mix of dirt and some gravel. Sites are close to level, have a table, and fire ring. Cable TV and 50 amps on a total of 22 sites. We could pick up more channels over the air than the cable system. I think cable had two or three channels that we could see. Free Wi-Fi at the office only and you have a table to set at. Sat dishes will not work here. You may find one or two sites that have a hole in trees. Dump station sits in middle of park. You will need to past dump, do a U-turn and come back to get in if you are in front of park. Staff was nice at check in and fast. Playground equipment for the kids. Nightly rate was for seniors. I checked swimming pool, close and green as a swamp. No gators in pool yet. You now have a nice wide turn lane to get into park from Hwy 204 spur. All road work is complete. Gates are locked at 10:00 pm. Verizon cell phone to the top. You will need a GA park pass to get into park. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed at Skidaway Island State Park for two nights and really enjoyed it. All of the sites were pull throughs which helps us since we tow a Jeep. The sites were also fairly large and all were in a wooded setting which provided a lot of shade and helped to keep our site cool in the summer heat of Savannah. The park was well maintained and very close to the Intra-coastal waterway boat ramp if you are traveling with a boat. We had a very pleasant stay and would highly recommend this park. We camped here in a Motorhome.

$27
The park is very convenient to Savannah and surrounding attractions. The sites are large and pull-thru. There is modem service at the office area but no wi-fi. The bath houses and laundry were clean and centrally located. There was cable tv but seemed to have some difficulties with service. The price we quoted was the senior rate. Take some bug spray for the mosquitoes and chiggers. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Price reflects senior discount. Once again, we found a Georgia State Park to be lovely. The atmosphere was quiet with lots of trees and oversized lots with plenty of space to move around. We had no trouble getting a 50 amp pull through site. The bathhouse was clean although a bit outdated. We would camp here again. The cable did not work. With cable, WiFi, and sewer, this would have been a 10! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very peaceful and nice park. Narrow interior roads but passable. Nice folks. We had to make several circles within the park to line up for the dump station on the way out. We have a 39ft 5th wheel. Cable TV was somewhat fuzzy but usable and nice since we could not use sat TV for all the trees. We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again, although not long term due to no sewers. Nice large lots situated as pull thrus parallel to roads. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We agree with previous reviews. The interior campground roads are narrow (one lane size) for two way traffic. Trees are trimmed but some came very close to touching the sides and top of our 12 foot high motorhome. The roads are manageable, just take it slow. Satellite reception was extremely difficult due to all the trees. The cable was fuzzy with about five viewable stations. There were 10 digital (over the air) stations. The sites are large with curved pull through. The sites are mostly dirt so be careful in wet weather. Bathrooms were a bit aged but clean with separate curtained change area outside shower. It is a reasonable 15 minute commute to downtown historic area. The biggest drawbacks are no sewer, only one dumpster for entire park and only one dump station which got very busy on Sunday when everybody was leaving. There is road construction at the entrance area of the park (making new turn lane into the park) so traffic was a little congested. The current turn in/out of the park road is a little tight due to construction barriers. The mosquitoes were bad bring lots of bug repellent. The pool was not open yet. We would return. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Different people like different camping experiences: for us this park was perfect. The roads others are complaining about, are in fact one way. At check-in the ranger gave us explicit direction on the roads. So if you are met by an oncoming rig, one of you is going the wrong way. I've never seen sites this large in all out travels. Cable TV wasn't great and we could have used a sewer connection, but that's to be expected in a state campground. Bathrooms were clean; there was a good laundry and a nice camp sink. We had site 51, was about 100 by 200 with total privacy. The park is close to downtown Savannah and Tybee Island. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Conveniently located to downtown Savanna. Nice level sites. Good walking trails. Aquarium nearby. We stayed three nights, quite enjoyable. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Nice park with all amenities that we needed for our short stay in the Savannah area. Bathrooms could use a coat of paint but were clean. Wi-Fi was very week at our site but strong at the office. Our Verizon air card work good at our site. Cable TV worked but only got a couple of stations. We used our antenna which was much better with several stations coming in on HD. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This state park was lovely. The sites were large, and well treed. The campground was quiet and staff were friendly. They have wonderful hiking trails and an excellent interpretive centre with snakes, turtles and even a baby alligator. The kids loved the Junior Ranger program and earned several badges during our stay. The facilities were clean and well maintained. Savannah is only 15 minutes away. We'd stay here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This was a nice park, plenty of room pull thru spaces, convenient to Savannah. Restrooms were OK maybe in need of some upkeep but don't let this keep you away I will be back. Stayed here four days. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Park was clean, sites relatively level, bathrooms and showers extremely clean. Nice trails for biking and hiking start within park. Convenient location. Some sites shady - some sites allow for privacy, some do not. Park personnel helpful, friendly, and professional. Great park! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We were pleasantly surprised by this park. The sites were of varying sizes and easy to get into. You are not on top of each other between sites. The park staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. We only stayed two nights as we were on our way to Florida. We are planning on coming down to this area again and will definitely consider staying at this park again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
What a wonderful state park! Hiking, bird watching, good playground for kids and neat wildlife museum. On site laundry $1 for wash and dry. Many sites can accommodate larger RV's, others are a bit small. Campground host and office staff very professional. We will stop by here again! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is an outstanding park. The sites are huge, and often nicely shaded from neighbors by natural vegetation. All sites are pull through, have a 15X20 foot raised, compacted, and raked sand surface for tents. Cable consists of 12 channels, all the networks plus a handful of independent stations, all watchable. We received the senior rate of $20 per night for being 62 or older. Wi-Fi is only available at the ranger station where people are invited by the staff to make use of the Wi-Fi there. A reservation means that a site will be held. Once you arrive and check in, you can then take any open site. We think this is an excellent approach to site selection. This is our second visit to this park; we'll be back. We camped here in a Motorhome.
With a very few exceptions, sites range from large to huge. They can be muddy and somewhat out of level though. Some with full shade, some partial. Cell coverage was adequate and a dish will work from some sites. The WiFi was available only next to the office not from the camp sites. Access to Savannah is convenient. There are plenty of food and shopping choices nearby. The staff was very accommodating. They had both water and electrical problems while I was there but did there best under difficult circumstances until they were corrected. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Cable TV is a joke, very few of the 13 channels are viewable, we saw many antennas up. WI-FI was only available in front of the office, they do have a picnic table on the porch to sit and access the internet. Staff was friendly and helpful. It was hard to distinguish the campsite, lots of dead leaves, etc. You just ride around and pick wherever you want to pull in. This campground is "rustic" there is much fallen small trees and limbs to pick from if you want a campfire. The roads through out the campground are very narrow, fortunately we didn't meet anyone going in or out. No signs up so guess the roads are two way. Its a good $20 a night campground. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We loved this State Park. It's about twenty minutes from Savannah but access is easy via the Truman Parkway. The park itself is large and diverse. There are several great trails with good bird watching inside the park's inlet and also a few miles away at the wildlife sanctuary. Road were all paved, sites were manicured with pea gravel and nice tables and fire pits. The education center was great and all staff were friendly. There were at least three excellent playgrounds for kids and showers were very clean. We'd come back in a heartbeat. Dump station gets a bit crowded so it's better to leave before check out time or just keep an eye for opening. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Loved it! We stayed a night, and this is awesome if you have dogs. The dog park is several acres and has two beaches. We wore out the dogs after too many days on the road. The spaces are huge, probably a quarter acre or more each, and very private. We stayed during the annual Festival of lights, one of the top 10 in the country and very cool. We will definitely be back. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This park is as good as everyone says. The place is beautiful and the sites are level. My husband really does not like government parks but I think he is convinced there are exceptions. This park is that exception. The bathrooms were old but clean. The amount of privacy in this park is truly wonderful--old fashioned camping. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We enjoyed the campground. The hiking trails are nice, with plenty of places for bike riding, and many ranger lead activities. The campground layout can be confusing. What looks like should be a one way street is really two way. We saw one unit pull in the wrong way and had to run their hook-ups under the camper. They came in after dark and it is hard to tell since all the sites are pull through. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
An excellent campground with level, spacious pull thru sites. Good Wi-Fi outside the office with a desk and outlet provided. Helpful staff, nice to get senior discount without having to be a GA resident. Enjoyed the nature trails too. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
$25 full rate, $20 senior. Another outstanding GA state park. We had 50 amp, water and catv with a fairly limited channel lineup. But with all the local networks plus weather. Campground and facilities are larger than Ft. McAllister's, better for bikers. I liked Ft. McAllister slightly better as it is a bit more solitude. Both are great parks and we would return. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We chose Skidaway due to its proximity to Savannah (20 minutes). The park is beautifully kept, and the sites are very, very large and level. All sites are in the woods. Biking and hiking trails are wonderful. Wi-Fi was a surprise. It works perfectly: just park in front of the Ranger Station. Savannah is easy to get to and, although not as big and not as visually appealing as Charleston, it is worth at least a couple of days. If you visit in November, be sure to attend the Veterans' Day parade. Groceries are five minutes away, and the ever necessary Wal-Mart is only ten minutes. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is one of the most beautiful state parks we have stayed in anywhere in the country. The entire campground is heavily shaded with lots of Live Oak trees draped with Spanish moss. All sites have basic cable TV and off air reception for all 4 networks in High Definition was excellent. All sites are pull through. There are two 50 amp loops but we chose a 30 amp site for a slightly sunnier location and had a very strong 120 volts. This was also one of the very few sites ( #46) where you could peek through the trees for the satellite. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
A wonderful setting, with recently paved roads. We have a 45' motorcoach and it's tight in places; albeit doable. Tree heights on roads prior to entering park can be problematic. We are 13'6" and we dinged and doinked quite a few times. Wi fi would be a nice addition. However for a state park to have cable is very nice. Close to downtown Savanah (14 miles). We camped here in a Motorhome.
I stayed here for a week (I got the weekly rate with the over 62 discount) so I could explore Savannah and Tybee Island. The campground is very wooded as you would expect in a state park, but it was well laid out. Water, electric and cable TV (which was a nice perk) is provided. The sites are half circle pull-thrus that took a bit of maneuvering with my 40' motorhome but are certainly accessible. Sites are not assigned so you just drive around until you find an unoccupied one that you like. Park rangers/employees are helpful and friendly. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a lovely campground, sites are pull-thru, very large and there is privacy. At night you can hear the sounds of nature. Sites are shaded and have picnic tables. Only two complaints: no sewer hook-up, which is not unusual for state parks, and the cable (which seems to be satellite) is terrible, about 12 channels that come in and out with the weather. We camped here in a Motorhome.
One of my favorites this park is close to all of the area's major attractions. The grocery stores (two major one's) within 10 minute drive. If you want to see the beach and Tybee Island lighthouse or downtown historic Savannah you wont get any closer. Now, the staff are not to be underrated either. They go out of the way to assist in making your stay one you will remember. The cable television isn't that great getting only three or four channels, but I go there for the overall experience. Very relaxing, large shade tree's and best of all if you have a reservation and arrive after hours you simply go set up and return to the rangers station early the next day and inform them of your location! Seriously, this beats paying $250.00 nightly in the historic district and is much more entertaining. Ive made this a quarterly stop. The only reason I do not give it a 10 is because there are only a couple of sewage hook-ups and they are reserved for camp host. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Lovely campground with large sites. Labor Day weekend the park was full to capacity yet no feeling of being crowded. Well worth a visit with great paved roads, nice hiking trail, interesting interactive museum. Odd, though, that as paid campers, there is an additional fee to use the pool. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This was an awesome State Park. They even had cable which I've never seen at a State Park. The park was beautiful with moss hanging from the trees and very wooded lots. They had handicapped Rv spots that we used and were wonderful. We had deer come right up to our door. We would definitely camp here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a beautiful park. If you have never been here you need to stay at least once. Most sites are 30 amp. 50 amp sites are marked with a blue sticker. Very few places can you get sat due to the trees. Cable is usable, but some are very fuzzy. Glad we had that. Air TV with the Batwing is not very good. Toilets and bath houses were very clean. Lots of squirrels. WiFi was very good outside the office but not accessable at campsites. Sprint Air Card was usable but not for large upload or downloads. I plan to come back here again when in the area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This rate is with a senior discount. A beautiful state park with nice, big pull-thru sites. We had a 50 amp site with water, electric and cable TV. A nice mix between the rustic of a state park and some of the convenience of a private campground. At least when we were there, before Memorial Day, you could reserve a site, but not a specific one. You drove through the park and picked one without a tag hanging on the pole. Having never been to this park before, I don't know it that is the practice throughout the summer or not. Some of the turns in the roads in the park are a little narrow and you have to be careful making some of the turns. The gate closes at 10 pm, but you are given a code to get in should you come back late. I agree with previous posts. There was a picnic table on the raised pad for tents and a fire pit. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very nice park in a beautiful area. It's about 15 minutes from downtown Savannah via the Harry Truman Expressway. Lots of trees providing great shade, homes for a variety of birds and lots of squirrels. There was a small herd of deer that would wander through the campground each night. Great bike riding! The nature trails are mostly shaded and nicely posted. The roads are recently repaved and very smooth. No problem with big rig access. There are two sections with 50 amp service, the rest of the campground is 30 amp. There were a washer and dryer ($1 ea) in each comfort station that worked very well. The Interpretive center is a must see. If you've never heard of a Giant Ground Sloth, you have to see it! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This was a great park, staff was friendly and just let us pick an empty site and that one would be yours....great! We were able to drive around and actually shop for the best site instead of looking at a crude map and trying to pick a good spot. The sites were very wooded and deer were in our site waiting to great us. There was plenty of room between the sites and it was not crowded at all. It was a great place to walk in the morning, deer everywhere. The sites were so,so level but not bad. They had a raised level pad on the sites for tent camping. The sites were nice and had a fire pit/grill on site, but no table that I noticed. They had campground hosts and they sold firewood. This was a great place I wished that we would have stayed there more. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We were here for a few days in January 2008 & appreciated the wilderness, yet, using Truman Parkway, the access to Savannah. Returned in March, so I could easily attend a conference in Savannah, while leaving my family in a lovely spot. We agree with previous reviews. Both times we were here the campground was full! Sites can be muddy & the bugs annoying, but we'll be back! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Great park. Just had ALL the roads repaved. Convenient to Savannah. Big celebration weekend- St. Patrick's Day parade. Sites are large, with plenty of space between them. Lots of places to explore in the area and within the park. Bathrooms cleaned once a day - campground was full everyday so sometimes they would get messy. People sometimes complain about the bathrooms not being clean but it's important to remember it's the fellow camper that has left it a mess - not the park. My moto - leave it like you would want to find it. Great park. Will stay again if in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Beautiful park, very shady. Even in March, the 50amp sites were scarce. The interior roads were recently repaved, but are narrow. If you have a big rig, you will have to go very slow. Couldn't get a satellite signal no matter how we moved the rig. The cable is poor, ABC is just static with shadows. Hiking trails are nice. There are no-see-ums here, so bring your repellent! The park is convenient to Savannah. We found the signage coming in to be just fine (brown signs with white lettering), so this problem noted by earlier reviewers must have been addressed. Definitely use Harry Truman Parkway. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is my favorite state park. Great for kids. Close to downtown Savannah and Tybe Island beach. Haven't been there during July or August so don't know how hot it would be. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We camped at Skidaway State Park this weekend for the first time and really enjoyed it. The location is good. There is easy access to Savannah and River Street. You do get to pick your own site, so the earlier you get there in the day the better. We arrived about 12:30 and got a nice site (#50). The only complaint we had is that upon leaving this morning, the dump station had a line five or six deep. We decided to dump somewhere on the way home instead of wait out the crowd. All in all, it was a pleasant experience and we will go back. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Nice quiet park but badly in need of a Wi-Fi hotspot. The rangers strongly requested that in the comment sheet we indicate the need for the hotspot. Had to drive 8 miles into town as there is only one site that allowed a Hughesnet dish to get to the southern skies. They have cable TV, but it's awful. We ended up using the Winegard crank-up antenna. Bathrooms were spotless, staff was superb and they now have new ( but very narrow ) blacktop roads throughout the campgrounds, so maneuver slowly as you search for your ( you choose ) campsite. All are under the trees. Nice restaurant ( Carey Hilliards ) for good reasonable food. Tybee Island was small and undergoing lots of road repairs when we drove through it. We would come back. Our price was with a senior discount. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Great Campground, it is a little trek to get to. The road RT204 has not kept up with the housing growth in the area. They had great activities for the kids. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Except for lack of sewer hookup, just wonderful. But there is a dump station that's easy to get to. We managed to find a site where we could get satellite tv, but most sites are very well shaded. Almost all sites are pull-thrus. Interior roads are paved, sites are gravel or grass. Peaceful, quiet, and not too far from the city. Park staff very friendly and helpful. We'd stay again . . . We camped here in a Motorhome.
Would just like to thank the previous reviewer for those directions. We got so lost trying to find this place we had to Walmart it (Montgomery Cross Rd.) the night before, just 6 miles away! Park is great, super pretty and mossy and lovely. Only thing wrong is roads are tight and there are no directionals on the roads. Otherwise fabulous. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Excellent park for exploring Savannah and Tybee Island. Lack of sewer on site is the only drawback we saw! We have been there twice and enjoyed both visits. Ask about the senior discount if applicable. We camped here in a Motorhome.

What a fantastic State Park! One of the best we've ever been to. A 25 minute drive to Savannah's historic district. A major grocery store only a couple miles away. Sites are all pull-throughs (semicircular) that accommodated our 33' trailer without problem. The cable TV is limited to about 10 channels (no complaint). Sites are spaced very well with a lot of privacy. Very quiet in the off season. Inexpensive laundry, too. Great nature trails, though can be wet and you might have to turn back or take your shoes off. Live oaks throughout campground drip with the Spanish moss. There is construction on Waters Ave. at the time of this writing, so drive by Waters and take the Truman parkway south to Hwy 204, where the parkway ends and you take a left to get to the park - this snafu combined with really poor detour signage cost us about 1/2 hour of time...found out about Truman parkway after the fact...not sure why the State Park's website directions take you down Waters Ave. to begin with as Truman parkway is much easier for RVs. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
The campground was very nice. We arrived right after a bad storm. The office had been flooded so they were experiencing some difficulties. The bathhouse was clean but only one shower had hot water. Due to the storm it did not have electricity for the first day that we were there (so no lights, etc.) They did have an electrician in to fit it the next morning. RV sites are large with a lot of space between them. We were not assigned a spot and we were just told to go and pick one. Not sure how that works during their busy season. They do have a pool but it is seasonal. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very pretty park with beautiful shade trees. You pick your own site once you check in by driving thru which is fun. Got there late 7:30 and there were still a few very nice 50 amp sites available. Woke up to find 3 deer in our back yard and our girls had a ball watching them through the window. Great hiking trails, nice playgrounds for little ones and lots of paved roads for bike riding. Very big sites with lots of privacy. We picked site 68 and loved it. Would definitely go back when weather is cooler. Pretty warm and muggy in July with lots of mosquitoes. Staff was very helpful. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We are big fans of State Parks and try to stay in them whenever possible. This is one of the nicest we have ever been to. All sites are pull throughs, have 30 amp, water and cable TV. About 20 sites have 50 amp service. None have sewer but there is a dump station located on the way out of the park ( be sure to come in with empty tanks ) Depending on how you pull-in your patio will be private or on the roadway. The sites are all large and contain a picnic table, fire pit and tent pad. The campground/park is full of trees which allows you to see you neighbor but still have privacy. The park contains a small visitor center with a bird viewing area as well as a pool ( fee ). There are 2 hiking/biking trails as well as the roadways within the campground. We travel in a 41 foot motorhome and the only negative is that it is a little difficult to make the turn into/out of the various campground loops ( there are 4 of them ) once in the loops there is no problem negotiating the roadways. We had no problems with the directions to this park, they are fairly straight forward ( one turn ) and Downtown Savannah with all it has to offer is only 15 miles away. We will definitely be returning to this park. We camped here in a Motorhome.
What can I say...I love Savannah and love this CG. We went to town one day and road bikes all day, leaving our vehicle at Visitor Center. ($1.00 an hr) Went on birding trail in CG & did 3.5 mile bike ride on the backside where bikes are allowed. Great shaded pull thru sites. Had a wonderful time. Large sites. Restrooms were clean. They have laundry facilities-which we used. We went over to Tybee Island to tour Light house & Ft. Pulaski. We love this park and we'll be back - I'm sure! Site #14 We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Park Management are friendly, helpful and considerate. Great park with wonderful "host" families who are very friendly and help. We will definitely be back We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is a really beautiful park. It is a little different. Make sure you don't get here after dark. The roads are a little tight in places and its hard to find your way around. At night it is so quiet. We will stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is a state park, so it doesn't have "big city" amenities, but it does have nice, large spaces with lots of trees. It's a great base from which to visit Savannah and the surrounding area. We were here in the off-season (January), so insects were not a problem. They have camping from primitive (what they call "Pioneer") to 50 amps. They do need to do some work on the roads; there are some major "bottom scrapers" around. The park is a bit a of a hassle to get to since it's south of Savannah and not near the interstates. The route is well marked most of the way. Unfortunately, some of the major turn signs are missing so it's easy to get lost. (Park management knows about this but maintains they can't get the highway department to cooperate with them in replacing these signs). Our recommendation would be to take the I-516 to its terminus at Bull St. in town, then keep going straight on DeRenne to the Harry Truman Parkway. Go south on the Truman Parkway until it ends at Whitfield. Turn south (left) on Whitfield, which turns into Diamond Causeway, so it's a straight in shot to Skidaway island and the park. The park is not too far south of the bridge over the intra-coastal waterway, so keep watch for the next right after the bridge. It's a nice loop that goes around so you can have a straight in entrance to the park road w/o having to make a left turn. Once again, it's not marked; those darn highway people! We stayed here two weeks. We camped here in a Motorhome.
After reading all of the glowing reports about Skidaway Island State Park, we expected a nicer campground than what we experienced. The campsites were roomy enough, but were in great need of some sprucing up: most were quite unlevel, and it was difficult to determine where you were supposed to put the camper since it has been quite some time since any gravel was spread to mark the pad. We arrived on a somewhat rainy day, and many of the campsites were pretty muddy. Our electric box had two 30 amp sockets, but only one of them worked because the breaker on the other was not functional. The fire ring/grill, although new, wasn't too usable since the grill portion was about 12 inches above the charcoal. We had to build a roaring fire just to get enough coals to eventually grill our steaks. It's too bad that this park hasn't received some of the renovation that other Georgia State Parks have enjoyed. This is such a great location, and the park has such great potential, that it could really be a crown jewel in the system. We'll give it another try in a few months. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
If you like spacious sites under tall pine trees, then Skidaway island is for you. The park is beautifully laid out in the forest and is only 20 minutes from downtown Savannah. Download from the website instructions to find the park but plan to arrive in daylight, as it would be hard to find after dark. Even in October it was almost full. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Nice shaded spots. Interior roads are a little narrow. Really have to look for signs when coming in from I 95. Friendly rangers. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We liked this park. Our site was huge, perhaps the largest we've ever had. It was very private and nice. The trees are very large and dripping with moss. The place was quiet and well run: no out-of-control kids, etc. The staff was helpful and informed, and the drive in to Savannah is easy. Finding the park from the Interstate is a challenge, you definitely need a co-pilot with good eyes for the small highway signs that direct you. We certainly would stay here again, if ever in Savannah. Restrooms were clean. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Beautiful State Park. There are a lot of pull through sites, but most are not your typical pull throughs, most are kind of a semi circle shape and not really straight. This type of site makes it difficult to park a large motor home. Roads are narrow, but manageable. I would not want to arrive in this park after dark because of the pull through site set up. We camped here in a Motorhome.
HUGE wooded pull-thru sites, nice grills and picnic tables. Paved roads. Nice for small children since door/awning faces away from road. Swimming pool OK, but NO shade and lots of non-campers swimming there. Nice ranger-coordinated campfire with stories, marshmallows. Close to Savannah and Tybee Island. Overall, enjoyed it alot, especially the nice, big sites. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is a nice CG close to Savannah, nice open spaces, nice place to take a walk in, but it was pretty hard to find coming into Savannah, thats the only thing against this great park. We camped here in a Motorhome.
If you like a natural setting, you should love this park. Lots of trees, live oaks, spanish moss, and large private sites - all pull-throughs. The park has a variety of easy hiking trails, a large pool, a small but interesting museum, and an attractive, sizeable picnic area. The one and only drawback is the no-see-ums. You will definitely need DEET and need to spray. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a great park. Very clean and lots of things within driving distance. The park is very secluded and within a few minutes you can be in Savannah is all the traffic. Only problem is the sand gnats. They will literally eat you alive. I don't know believe they spray for them and you cannot spend any time outdoors, which if you are camping is exactly what you want to do. This is our second time visiting in April and we will not be back because the bugs are so bad. The chew my kids up and then wanted more. They get in your hair and no amount of repel bug spray or skin so soft will help. If you do decide to go, we were told by a local that the sand gnats are only there when temperatures are pleasant from about 60 to 80 degrees. And they are not bad when temps are over 80 which would be in the summer. Just have to check it out and see. If you do come here I will suggest that you take the nature trail out to the salt marsh. They have a observation deck and it is beautiful. It is a great place to ride your bike out to and have a picnic. But there are some swampy areas and we did see a couple of snakes (one water snake and one copperhead) so watch out with pets or children. The park claims that they do have a alligator in the park but we have not seen it yet but others we talked to had so be careful. This is again a nice park with nice sized camping lots and plenty of privacy. Not alot of channels come in on the cable so satellite would be much better. Tent campers are not in a section but mixed all thoughout the campground. It is also about a 30 minute drive out to Tybee to see the ocean but the park did provide a map which made it very easy to navigate Savannah. River Street was awesome and take a ride out the the Savannah Wildlife Refuge, it was nice to see alligators in their own surroundings. Check it out, but watch out for the gnats. YUCK! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very nice park close to the historic areas of Savannah. Bathhouses are small and a bit older but clean and very serviceable. There is one washer and one dryer at the bathhouses that have laundry. The park has cable TV with about 10 channels. This park was pretty and quiet with large, level pull around sites. We have a 30 ft class A. Some trimming of overhead branches is needed on the roads in the campground. In addition to visiting Savannah we enjoyed the Wormsloe Historic Site, Fort Pulaski and Tybee Island. We camped here in a Motorhome.
A typically wonderful, clean , quiet, wooded State Park. Oh, and dark. If you are going out of the park and not coming back until after dark be sure take your site-map with you and memorize the way to your site. My deepest apologies to the other campers who put up with me driving around and around in the dark trying to find our home. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very nice and large park. Roads are blacktop and sites are more or less dirt. In the past some gravel was in sites. Trees are old and very heavy, a satellite dish will not work here. If you love to camp in the woods this is the place to be. Swimming pool was very nice. Great place to tour Savannah from park. At night you will see deer walking around inside park. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Staff very helful; sites very shady; dump station available; very quite and secure--security on duty all night; sites all pull-thru and most are very large. About 5 miles to downtown Savannah. We will stay again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice campground, big pull-through sites. Had a nice nature trail, clean bathhouse. A disappointment was their pool is closed every Mon and Tues so we didn't use it. Convenient to downtown Savannah and Tybee Island. We will return. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Outstanding park: quiet, clean, has friendly hosts/rangers, and for some reason, we didn't have any problems with the "sand gnats" (no-see-ums). Got lucky I guess. All in all, a place to recommend for that "camping" feel with excellent amenities. Couldn't find anything we didn't like, will return. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is the quietest park that we have ever stayed in. It offers lots of privacy and is in a very scenic setting. Internal roads are good and can be navigated by large rigs with no problems. Bathrooms are small, but clean. Some sites in camping areas 2 and 4 have less shade, and can be muddy during periods of rain. Cable TV is limited to basics with broadcast networks, weather channel, and CNN. Don't forget insect repellant as mosquitos and gnats are plentiful. It is about 15 - 20 minutes out of Savannah. We reserved a campsite via the internet, and everything went well. Highly recommend this campground. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We really enjoyed this park. I thought the pull thrus were strange though. The awning side of the rv was not visible from the road. If you like privacy this is nice, if you want to sit outside and socialize with whoever walks by, this is bad. Swimming pool is large size with lifeguards. $2 charge, not open on Mon-Tues. 1 bath house per loop (4 loops), they were clean and had washers and dryers available. 2 hiking/biking trails both less than 1 mile long. 2 observation towers. It was neat to see the tide coming into the marsh areas. 2 playgrounds near picnic areas. Amphitheater and meadow area near camping area. There were many biting bugs while we were there, we stayed mostly inside rv because of the rain. All sites had a picnic table, fire ring, tent pad area and lots of vegetation. Not much wildlife while we were there, probably because of the weather. Savannah is close to park, about 10 mi to center. We did not have trouble entering or exiting park with traffic during our stay. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is so beautiful and very quiet. The park rangers and staff were very pleasant and helpful. The sites are widely spaced so you have your privacy with lots of trees in between. The comfort station always had hot water and clean. The washer and dryers were easily accessible and worked fine. The only thing I could say bad is bring your mosquito repellent, those guys ate us up but that is not the parks fault. I would higly recommend staying here if you want a lovely relaxing stay. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Park is very nice. lot of heavy trees on all sites. Your Sat. TV system may not work here
(trees) but sites have cable TV. Park was clean and staff was nice at check in. Roads are well marked to get you into park. No noise on island. You will see a lot of deer late in day and other wild life. Playground equipment for the kids. Great place to spend some time. Savannah is about 10 miles away. We will return soon. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Skidaway is a nice park. I have a few issues with it though. First off, this park was filled with huge buslike motorhomes and if you do not wish to see your neighbors at all then go here. They pull in, hook up then you never see them again. I am certain this is just a jump off point to Savannah. The bathrooms are very clean and get an A-, the only issue is that there is nowhere to hang your towel or put soap while in shower. But bathrooms were cleaned every morning like clockwork. Trails are okay but limited and this is where the problem comes in. The main reason this park gets such a low grade is really not the park. Not everyone is going to Skidaway to see Savannah, I live in Charleston only 80 minutes away and can see Savannah anytime. When you leave the road to the park: Boom! Traffic, lights galore, bad drivers, bad road system and tons of confusing turns to get you back to any major road. This is no exaggeration. The parks location is terrible, and there are limited things to do in the park. So you are stuck unless you want to go to Savannah. Frankly I would rather take the route from Charleston to Savannah, less traffic and hassles than from the 5 mile away Skidaway. Also, there is quite substantial road noise but who cares when you are in a 45 foot big rig with the TV blasting? We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

A beautiful state park. Good paved roads and spacious sites. Very well planned. Good walking trails and a nice pool. Even cable TV! The only thing to make it perfect would be sewer hookups. We camped here in a camper.
