Sites at this campground are very spacious. The county does a great job of maintaining the campground and they are very strict. Our sites were very level and had a river view. There is a nice playground for the kids and plenty of space for them to run around. Sites fill up very quickly on weekends and are first come first serve to the point that we were yelled at by the DNR for holding a site for my sister (she had followed us to the campground in a separate vehicle and was less than two minutes behind us). You can fish from the campground but the boat traffic can be an issue occasionally. If you leave the campground and go back out on the highway you can get to the other side of Pinicon Ridge Park. There are many things to do in the park including additional (and better) fishing opportunities, hiking, wildlife preserve, playgrounds, paddle boat and canoe rentals, picnic areas and the "must see" observation tour that allows you a phenomenal view of the entire park. It would have been nice if there was a bridge over the river from the campground to the rest of the park. The flies were terrible because they seem to have problems with flooding, however the DNR does a great job of keeping the campground clean and well maintained. There are two other camping areas at Pinicon Ridge one is The Plains which is near the Flying Squirrel Campground and also features very nice family style cabin and the other is a more primitive group area (for three groups, three unit minimum and no showers) on the other side of the park. Overall a lovely park. We will camp here again, but it always makes me nervous heading out without knowing if a site will be available. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
