This is a nice family park close to Bay City. There is a lot to do for kids and adult in this area. The swimming is no the best but I was informed that the chamber of commerse is going to install piers for swimmers that go out past the green slime. Once you get past the slime the swimming is good nice sandy bottom. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Nice park with plenty of good sites to choose from. The bathrooms have both been rebuilt in the last couple of years and are real nice. We camped here for a Halloween Harvest Festival weekend, and it was packed with lots of families. Overall it's a real nice place, but as mentioned the water can be a little nasty for swimming, we stopped by in the summer and the beach was a long walk from the campground and didn't appear to be used due to muck in the water. But for a spring or fall trip this is a nice place and an easy drive from SE Michigan. If you need firewood there is an oil change place on hwy 13 just as you get to Kawkawlin that will sell 1/2 ($22.50) or full face cords ($45), which I thought was real reasonable for good hardwood, as the firewood purchased near the park was soft, rotted and/or wet. If the beach was nicer I would rate this park an easy 9, but gave it a 7 due to not being the best option for a hot summer day. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This state park campground is very nice. The staff is extremely friendly and the bathroom/shower facilities are immaculate. There are nice walking trails around a lagoon and a visitor center with local entertainment on summer weekends. A word of caution though! If you are going to this campground to use the beach for swimming, forget about it. The beach is completly unusable due to smelly, sticky algae that covers the shoreline. An Internet search turned up news articles that indicate this problem has existed for at least ten years and is a hot local topic. We camped here in a Motorhome.
