We camped there in a motor home as Coast to Coast members. The park is several miles off the main road on fairly well maintained roads. We were the only campers the night we stayed. The sites were sand and dirt with pine trees with dirt road access. The management was very friendly. The park is just a little too remote for our taste. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We were a bit hesitant to visit this park as a result of a previous visitor's review. I made the decision to go ahead and visit the park because I felt that the previous review was just too "wild" to be accurate. My hunch was correct. There was a small ditch a few inches deep washed out on one side of the site access road, but nothing that would not be easily crossed by a motorhome or combination RV. Some daytime as well as some nighttime training exercises took place during our 3 day stay. Some artillery and machine gun noise was heard, not felt (this should be expected in close proximity to a military training base.) One also must realize that, as the name indicates, this is as much a hunting lodge as a resort campground. All in all, the people at the park were very helpful, courteous and friendly, the grounds were reasonably maintained, and we had a nice stay and will not hesitate to camp there again if travels take us back to that area. Internet access would have been nice, but it was made clear prior to making reservations that access was not available. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

A lot has changed since the previous reviewer posted. Half of the 30 sites are now only accessable through a very large erosion ditch going down one side of the access road. We wouldn't even attempt those sites in our motorhome. Although we went through 2 nights of tornado watches, the worst part of our stay there was Camp Shelby. Our final night we were awoke at 1:30am by 2 very large explosions from heavy artillery from the camp. Obviously way off course. We were again jolted out of bed at 4:30am by 2 more shells, this time much closer. Even though we had our jacks down, our coach rocked more than 12 inches by the concussion of the blasts. One more and we were ready to call 911 to have the shelling stopped (as we would have been pulling out!). We didn't get much sleep that night. A rustic beauty of a place but we will not be returning to this place! We camped here in a Motorhome.
