This campground is not for everyone. I submit it here in case you want to visit Sheldon Wildlife Refuge and want an easy place to stay. First, the CG is 2.5 miles off of the paved road. The gravel road conditions will vary; when we visited the road was good but still required a speed of about 5 to 10 mph to not rattle too much. The campground is a little hard to locate. The GPS coordinates are N41 51.166; W110 00.152. There are signs from NV route 140 directing you toward the Opal Mines and a commercial campground "Royal Peacock" which is 10 miles down the gravel road. That is where we were initially heading, but did not want to do 10 miles on the gravel road. The CG is free. There are probably a dozen or more somewhat defined campsites with tables (at some) and grills (at some). There is a CG host, which we did not interact with during our 2 night visit, but it was good to know that there was someone around. There are no reservations, so you take you chance as to whether a site will be available. During our visit, there were many sites available, but on a holiday weekend it might be a different story. There is water available, which seems to be OK, but we came in with a full tank of fresh water so did not use it. There are warm water showers and a warm water small pool available. It can be dusty and the CG is not overly beautiful, but there are nice sunsets and it is quite. As noted, the main reason one would want to stay here is to visit the refuge, which is wonderful if you like wildlife, such as birds and pronghorns. If the opportunity arises, we would certainly stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
