We camp every July to see the Philharmonic. It's a great venue with a firework display afterwards. The campground is simple. No Hook-ups. Water spigot/fountains every couple of sites. The park itself is large and you would need a vehicle to use the pool & beaches. There are several play areas for the kiddies. It would be nice if they had one closer to the camping area. Also, one has to be careful with ticks when camping here. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
I went to this park recently with a few friends. We liked it. It was close to our home and only stayed one day to attend the beach. The beach area did have a lot of people, it was clean but the crowds did leave garbage in the beach area. The park is HUGE, you will need a car to get around. There are not a lot of amenities but if you are tent camping you will like it. I miss the full hookups so not sure if I will be going here again for that fact. We did not use the bathrooms so I cannot comment on them. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Named in 2005 as one of the top 100 campgrounds in the nation. Twenty miles of hiking trails, bicycle and cross-country skiers trails. Swimmers can use the Great South Bay or the swimming pool complex. Huge campground as this is a state park. There are picnic areas, a boat launch ramp, playing fields, playground and 69 camp sites. Fishing. Docking available. Picnic table provided. Must bring your own fire pit. Tents allowed with your motor home. Bring a vehicle with your RV as all activities are beyond walking distances. Only vehicles under eleven feet high can come into the campgrounds. Dumping Station on the grounds. No camp store. Many community activities like concerts in the park. Shopping and necessitied close by. Very easy to find as the park is at the end of a parkway, but the camping area can be a bit confusing to find. 50 miles from Manhatten. No generators allowed after 10p.m. so bring your camping laterns with plenty of batteries. This is a no-frills campground but for the real camping experience, you will not go wrong. We camped here in a Motorhome.
