Bowman Lake State Park (BLSP) is billed as a "camper's paradise" on the website. I don't know about paradise, but our experience here was pretty good. Getting there - if you are coming from the north or east, your GPS receiver will take you on some unpaved back roads that aren't very trailer-friendly. Stay on NY12 southbound *past Norwich* down to Oxford, and then turn right onto NY220, then left onto Bliven-Sherman Rd., which will take you right into camp. This route is longer, but will keep you on paved roads. Also note - there is basically NO cellular reception at BLSP - with my Wilson booster, I was able to get enough signal to make an emergency call on my Verizon phone, but could not get any signal at all from AT&T. This is either a plus or a minus, depending on your perspective. On to the park itself. The campsites at BLSP are a good size for tenting and trailers up to the 25-foot range, and we had no major difficulty leveling our rig. Sites are nicely separated with forest in between them, so if you're looking for a quiet/private camping experience, this is a good place to go. Each site has a brick fireplace with a metal grate, which is handy if you like to cook on the campfire. The bathroom facilities are dated, but are very well maintained and kept clean. There is only one shower facility; we didn't use it so we can't comment on it. There were scheduled arts/crafts activities for the kids on Saturday morning, which they enjoyed. The swimming area is small but pleasant; they also offer rentals of canoes, kayaks and rowboats for a reasonable fee. No water or electricity at any of the sites, but water faucets are easily available around the park, and those with trailers or RVs can fill their freshwater tanks at the dump station. Only major gripe with the park was that the roads/parking lots are in poor repair, which meant we had to do some artful dodging as we brought our trailer in. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Bowman Lake State Park is touted as a 'campers paradise' in their brochure. For us, this was definitely the case. The campsites were large, shaded and very private and best of all, less than 1/3 of the sites were booked, leaving lots of 'elbowroom' from other campers. The lake is small, and is designated for non-motorized boats only, meaning canoes, rowboats (no motor of any kind) kayaks etc. This kept the campground quiet enough to hear the woodpeckers echoing in the canopy above and the sounds of crackling fires popping in the distance. While there are no electric or water hookups on sites, the effort you'll spend in advance planning for water and battery power will be well worth your while in what you'll discover in privacy, peace quiet and nature appreciation at it's best. The campground offers playgrounds and lifeguarded beaches for little ones, a concession stand that is very affordably priced and whose menu is plenty diverse, lots of hiking and biking trails and a boat house with rowboats and kayaks to rent. Rates midweek are $15.75 for first night and $13.00 each night thereafter and weekend/holiday rates are $18.75 for first night and $16.00 each night there after. There is NO minimum stay requirements. We enjoyed our stay there tremendously and will return many more times! We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
